I called to check on reservations for dinner since we were staying at the hotel. I was told they don't take reservations, but they'd see us that night as it's first come, first served. When we went down for dinner, they were closed. We missed out on making a reservation at another restaurant in the building and ate at the bar. Upon further review of the website, it does say they are no longer doing dinner because of Covid 19 (it's now 2023) and I'm unclear why they would let us believe they were open. I'll be back in April and will update if I can get there while they are open. read more

Society 1854 is inside of downtown Omaha's newest Marriott, the beautiful glass spectacle that is located on 10th St., across from the Century Link. Whether you are staying here as a guest or local to the city, it offers yet another great place to grab a drink+bite in Omaha. They are "in theme" with the rest of the lobby, which I would describe as polished and intimate, with dark woods and warmer color tones. The accompanying bar is Burdock & Bitters- which I highly recommend and probably enjoy more than the restaurant itself since it carries the same menu but looks and feels more my style. There is free valet (with validation) and avoiding the rain (and cold when winter hits!) for a meal is pretty stellar. From the valet to the front desk to get directions to the staff working at Society 1854 itself, it was good customer service all around. We especially enjoyed the pork belly with polenta, the brussel sprouts, and the Korean wings. The deviled eggs were beautiful to look at as well. The cocktails were excellent with in house syrups and creative flair in the choices. I sampled a few off their newest menu and think people will really like the seasonal options. The cost per person here with a shared app, dinner and a cocktail will run you ~$25 or so. Great spot for a casual night, before or after a show, or a special occasion. I was sadly bummed out by our dinner here tonight. Especially since we had friends visiting from out of town... things just felt off. And for a first visit to a highly rated restaurant, I was surprised. The menu was heavy on sandwiches, even at dinner time. And I felt hard-pressed to find an entree that I could tackle with a knife and fork. Decided on the gnocchi and was told I made an "excellent choice". But... tbe gnocchi was strangely pillowy, not doughy. Though all the vegetables - especially the mushrooms - served with it were tasty, as a dish it was slightly disappointing. The bone marrow also, served split lengthwise with onions and celery leaves on top, and a single slice of bread, was strange. A nearly empty restaurant on a Saturday night doesn't really bode well, but we started our meal to a successful tune at the bar. Drinks and service were tasty and friendly. The pace of service took a significant turn when we moved to our table. And despite the fact we told our server we were trying to make a show, our food showed up 40 minutes after ordering, and we were 15 minutes late for our performance (despite the fact that we finished our entrees in record time). Probably not the goal for a restaurant who was at the time catering to the needs of only 4 tables. Ultimately a strange and unfortunately less than satisfying experience. read more

Stopped in for lunch during the Berkshire Hathaway annual meeting with my father. We ordered the deviled eggs for a starter and he ordered the Wagyu burger (no bun) and I had the Cuban. The eggs were great, topped with a chunk of bacon and some mustard seeds on top. The burger was very good, prepared perfectly and he destroyed the fries, which is something he normally doesn't do. The Cuban was excellent, well structured and delicious. The accompanying chips were great, crispy and well prepared. The only complaint was the service. Took longer than I would have expected to be greeted by our server, especially since they weren't too crowded at the time. And then we didn't see him again for a good twenty minutes. Another server brought us our food (not unusual) and we never got a refill on water until we were done. Other tables around us had to pester the manager/other servers so I was expecting a bit of a drag, and drag it did. Manager or assistant manager brought us the bill and cleared the table. When the bill was brought back with my card, it was the wrong one. I'm guessing we just caught them on a bad day but I expected a bit more. read more

I was fortunate enough to be invited to a trial feeding in preparation of opening. We were warmly greeted and seated at our leisure as I wanted to have a cocktail in the bar before dining (prefect cocktails were had). Once seated, our sever Tad went over the menu and highlighted some of the local ingredients. Our party of 4 started with the bone marrow aka beef butter as the server put it, clams, watermelon/burrata salad, and couscous. I ordered the wagyu filet with hollandaise for my main course. So good! It was cooked to my exact liking and the sauce was perfectly balanced. Sides were zucchini, beans, and asparagus. All were delicious. The pole beans were tender yet had a slight crunch, and I loved the addition of grilled peaches to the zucchini! Dessert was also enjoyed by all. So excited to have this beautiful restaurant in town and cannot wait to go back. read more

Stopped in during the week for lunch. The hotel in itself is really nice. Everything looks and smells so new and nice! The valet parking guys are fantastic...really everyone that works there is super nice and personable. When we went into the hotel someone greeted us and walked us to the restaurant and gave us a little history on why the restaurant was named Society 1854. Very cool! Started out with a Moscow Mule, and while I was disappointed it didn't come in a copper mug it was quite delicious! We ordered the Charcuterie Board for an appetizer and it was very good. For my entrée I ordered the Spicy Braised Pork Sandwich. It came on a toasted sesame seed bun and had Gochujang, Sesame Greens and garlic mayo. While there were a couple pieces of dry pork, overall the sandwich was tender. It was tasty with just a little kick of spice. Came with house made potato chips that were good as well. My dining partner had the Wagyu burger, and while she ordered it well done it still looked juicy inside. She raved about how good it was. I enjoyed my visit however the price was a bit too high for me to frequent. Typical hotel prices for sure. Worth a try for sure though! read more

Stopped in for dinner on a Saturday night and the place was pretty dead at 630, unfortunately a large group got seated behind us and the way the building is set up you are basically eating in the lobby and large hall way and the acoustics are terrible and a lot of echoing. I still have to give 5 stars because our server was exceptional. She was very friendly and knowledgeable. She was a bit overwhelmed with a couple large groups so a little slow for us but her attitude and attention to detail made up for anything. They gave me my Black Manhattan on the house due to slow service. That drink was strong to say the least. They normally fry their brussel sprouts but to accommodate a gluten free diet they sauteed them and gave a garlic aioli that was very good. My wife enjoyed her bunless burger and salad but the burger was a bit over cooked. My cuban sandwich was top notch and I really enjoyed the home made crunchy chips. Overall the prices are a bit higher for what it is but given the area etc its about right. If I'm in the area again I wouldn't mind stopping in to try some other items on the menu. read more

We went to society 1854 for their thanksgiving lunch event - the area they had sectioned off was very nice and they added to the mood with a saxophone musician. Food was served family style so you really felt "at home" with whoever you were sharing the meal with. The waiters and waitresses were all very kind and fun to talk to. The thanksgiving meal was a traditional thanksgiving dinner. They poured us complimentary cranberry mimosas and gave us as much dessert as we could take home (they literally gave us a container and told us to fill it up with sweets haha). I don't have a picture of the food but the setting and dessert table looked amazing. read more

After a long day, our group decided to order take out. Two people ordered the waygu burgers with fries and I ordered the flaked salmon salad. I walked down to get the order and had a short wait until it was ready. The folks at the bar were friendly and welcoming. When the food was ready, the server made sure everything was perfectly in order. I made the short walk back to our hotel and we ate. The burgers were delicious and the fries had been packed in a separate container so they were not soggy. My salad was fresh and plentiful. If I lived in Omaha, I would return. read more

Although the menu itself is not super vegan friendly, the staff was VERY accommodating! The chef offered to modify the special and created a vegan farro risotto with veggies, microgreens and a butternut squash purée. Be still, my heart! One of the best meals I can remember having! It had subtle spices, layered flavors and was cooked to perfection. The chef is obviously a magician in the kitchen! I can't wait to stay here again and see what he can create next time! read more

It was crazy busy at 6pm on a Saturday due to a concert at Century Link, state track and other events in the area. Glad we had a reservation! There is a huge serving area and it's hard to distinguish dining from bar, which proved problematic the whole time we were there. Small tables along the backside of the wall appeared to be a logical choice for walk-ins only to be told they were reserved. Note to management: a small "reserved" sign on the tables and communicating with bar staff would have solved this and spared you lots of unhappy patrons who had been told they could sit anywhere in the bar area. We had a limited "Events" menu, which was understandable but the selections were good nonetheless. We chose loaded potato soup and a salmon dish. Soup was excellent but would have liked more potato chunks. Salmon was also cooked quite well-hot center with crispy seasoned skin it was served atop a porridge which, while tasty, was an odd combo. I would have preferred a more firm risotto or rice base instead. The reason for 4 stars instead of 5 was due to service. The soup came before our cocktails, a request for pepper for the soup didn't arrive until I was halfway done. When the bill came we finally had to flag a different server to run our credit card. This is a hip, happening place inside the Marriott and I recommend it. But be sure you have a reservation on a busy night and don't be in a hurry. read more

People and drinks are so great but they really need to improve the food. My burger was so salty and my wings were average. I brought my colleagues there to have appetizers and they didn't come for 30 mins. Unfortunately they weren't able to eat any because they had to go but they commented that the night before it was not good. Such a wonderful ambiance should have food to match. read more

Absolutely horrible lunch experience. I'm a platinum Bonvoy member and this is one to avoid. Great hotel and good bartenders but the food service in this restaurant needs help. I never saw my server after she brought me an iced tea so I had to go find my own sugar. Given undercooked chicken sandwich and asked them about it. They took it back to the chef and returned it to me and told me I was wrong. I then had to track down the server and ask her to come out of the kitchen area so that I could pay 20 minutes later. When I mentioned it to a "supervisor" she said they're working out some kinks and need to train their people better and get more staff. I also told the front desk nicely and she said that she would pass it along and that's about it. Wasn't looking for anything but they could have tried much harder. read more

The employees are very friendly and nice, they totally deserve good tips. Food is freshly made, healthy and very tasty. The environment is very clean and elegant. Good for kids, the high chair is really clean which surprise me. Highly recommend this place. Makes me want to stay in Marriott next time when I visit Omaha. read more

This was one of the most disappointing Easter brunch I have ever been. At $30 per person, it was overpriced due to an extremely limited selection and lackluster menu. It looked like a selection offered daily to hotel guests and just slapped on "Easter Brunch". I hate to be so overly critical but that's how it looked. In addition , the staff is not equipped to run a buffet. They ran out of plates! It was not until my husband told the manager did they start to remedy the situation . What's unbelievable to me is how several staff members were in that area but none of them bothered to do anything. Was it a lack of training or communication? Not entirely sure. The place was very nice however. And will be an elegant place to catch up with friends over a drink or two. But you're better off spending you're money somewhere else for a really nice brunch. ! read more

We came in with a wedding party so perhaps it's a bit different for regular breakfast? Anyway, we had maybe 70 people or so, we took up nearly the entire dining area and the breakfast was served as a buffet instead of a menu, but it was tiny. The space allowed for it was on two small counter tops. The fruit section consisted of 4 dinner plate size serving dishes taking up half the counter; there was clearly enough room for more food but the space was under-utilized. In addition, because the serving platforms were so small food kept running out. You could get maybe 4 people at most through the line before serving dishes were empty again. In addition, God forbid you're a vegetarian or have a pepper allergy. The eggs had ham and tomatoes mixed in with no straight up eggs; there was a spot for eggs with spinach, pepper and tomato (at least the sign said such, the only potential vegetarian protein option) but I didn't once see it ever actually put out and I was in a clear line of sight the entire time. There wasn't even an empty container for it it was just a sign and an empty space. I understand that the world does not cater to vegetarians but to have literally NO protein option available at all without meat was upsetting. Meanwhile you have these giant warming bins filled with pig bacon and pig sausage--sorry Muslims and Jews, you get no protein options at all. Half of wedding party are vegetarians so this was especially unfortunate for us. Each table had an assortment of jams but there was no toast anywhere or even just straight up bread. I'm honestly baffled that this caliber or restaurant can get away with a breakfast that Motel 6 does better on. A continental breakfast should not offer more than a hot American breakfast buffet at a 4 star establishment. I work for a luxury hotel (we have no locations in Nebraska) and I know what a 4+ star hotel breakfast buffet should be..this wasn't it. Here were the items available at the buffet: Croissants smaller than your palm and banana bread. These were taken away at some point to be replaced with the few hot items I'll list next. Then out came eggs mixed with ham and vegetables (again, no eggs just on their own), cantelope, blueberries, pineapple, and honeydew for fruit. A single plate of pancakes and french toast. GIANT containers of sausage and bacon. An okay spread at best but again, the serving containers were so small 3/4 of the space was unused and there were virtually no options for those with dietary restrictions. We don't ask for a lot but would straight up eggs really be so hard to provide? The one thing I can say is that the staff was INCREDIBLY KIND. They were attentive, accommodating, and just fantastic all around. There was entirely too many of them, though. You'd frequently see them walking around without a real task. That was beneficial if you needed more water or coffee because you could flag someone over more easily but it seemed like hovering more than anything. If you can afford to staff this restaurant this well I think you can afford to put together a better breakfast. read more

I made a 5pm reservation via Open Table but since I was running late, I went online and saw there were plenty of options, so I updated the reservation to 5:30pm. When we arrived, we were ushered to a small cocktail table next to the kitchen in the bar. I explained that we were there for dinner, but was told they were very busy due to the U2 concert. However, there were six empty cocktail tables right beside the one we were seated. I asked for another table in the dining room and was told there was none. As soon as the restaurant manager heard me tell my husband that this would be the last time we'd be coming back, we were ushered to a table in the dining area. Note that there were multiple empty tables nearby.... How convenient..... Menu was limited due to the concert. We had the deviled eggs which were average. The deviled egg mixture was very loose and oozed out of the egg. The taste was bland. I had the mixed salad with NY strip. The salad had too much dressing and the steak was a light tan in color (not nicely charred). It was barely cooked in parts and overly fatty. As a Marriott Rewards member, I've eaten at many inhotel restaurants and was hoping this would be better. Unfortunately, it wasn't. I expected much better quality especially since the menu was limited. However, the biggest turnoff and reason for the low rating is the customer service. For a new hotel, I would have expected much, much better. There are many great restaurants in the area that are worth trying... skip this one and take a short walk to the Old Market. read more

They served the same menu s the restaurant. We ordered the pork belly, fried Brussels sprouts, herb hush puppies, and naan flat bread. I would recommend them in that order. Ask for the homemade grilled sourdough peasant bread with their churned butter - to die for and not on the menu. Decided to check this out on a Saturday afternoon. I am so glad we did. Nothing like you would expect from a restaurant in a hotel. Great menu, very original. We tried the Duck Confit sandwich and the Rueben. Both were delicious. Extraordinary attention to detail. Everything perfect. The duck was moist and tender on the inside and crispy on the outside. Clearly made fresh as ordered. We sat at the bar. The bartender made one of the best Arnold Palmers we've ever had. Freshly brewed tea, freshly made lemonade. Amazing. The potato soup was good, but dear god do not order the gnocchi. It is served basically as a salad. Some weird version of gnocchi topped with spinach and berries and potatoes with a vinaigrette.
