What has happened to Taxi's? It used to be a favorite. I met some friends for New Year's brunch, and as I was more interested in my friends than my food - which before I didn't have to think about here - I didn't notice at first that there wasn't any egg (nor Gran Marnier) in my Gran Marnier French Toast! It appeared to be just bread fried in butter, *maybe* brushed with egg but no more than that. A friend mentioned that her Eggs Benedict had hard-cooked eggs and broken Hollandaise. The server fussed at me when I asked - not a demand - about Kahlua instead of peppermint in some hot cocoa. Last, I don't see the point of seating a table right by the front door, with a big draft any time someone entered or exited, right at the open of business. The restaurant had only 1-2 tables when we got there, I get that there are sections but could you please use the freezing tables last? I had a great visit with my friends, but the restaurant's complacency was palpable. I won't be back, which makes me sad, they have a mussels appetizer that has been great in the past. read more

One of the best restaurants I've tried for the quality of food and drinks! The Fig & Smash cocktail was absolutely delicious. For dinner, the Brussels sprouts appetizer, Parmesan-crusted chicken, and salmon mains were all incredible. The atmosphere is so cute, dimly lit, and beautifully decorated.The service was great throughout the meal, but the ending was extremely disappointing. Our server never gave us a last call for the kitchen or the bar. We specifically chose to stop here to try the key lime pie for dessert and wanted to order a second cocktail (the cherry one). However, because we weren't given a heads-up, we were refused both dessert and drinks at 9:06 PM when the server finally returned to our table.Getting a polite reminder before a 9:00 PM close is standard hospitality, and missing out on the sweet ending to our meal ruined the experience. The food is exceptionally good, but the lack of basic communication makes me hesitant to return. read more

I wish there was not a star system or at least you could do half of a star because I was really in between three and four. We typically really only go for breakfast but decided to go for dinner. Had went quite a while back for lunch and ordered a BLT which I really liked because it was on a hamburger type bun with not an overload of bacon and the fries I remember being really crispy and good. I remember that because I never eat french fries but I was shocked. I liked theirs. This dinner was definitely different because the BLT was made in a regular sandwich and the fries were very soggy. Very grease soaked. No crunch was possible. The sandwich was OK. I felt like there was not much flavor. I kept putting on extra garlic aïoli. It did not help much. Even taking bites of the bacon by itself I did not taste much bacon, which is kind of strange. I ordered the soup of the day for an appetizer which was Tuscon chicken soup. Our waiter, who by the way was very awesome explained the soup before I ordered it. Unfortunately, it did not come out the way he explained it. It was quite tasty, but there was no noodles as he had said there was. Guess there was a mixup in the kitchen because he said they add the noodles last. No big deal. He was very apologetic and actually gave me a bowl to go. My dining partner had the pot roast. Was very excited about it, but it just was not as tender as a pot roast you make it home and cook for 10 hours in the slow cooker. While it was tender she felt it was a little too tough. Service was great for the most part. Was never asked if I wanted another drink which is fine, and when the waiter came to collect our plates, he never asked how things were and it's strange he did not notice that my dining partner did not eat one drop of her food. No big deal we took it home. Not sure if it will be eaten or not. All in all I like Taxis, maybe just stick to the breakfast. read more

Stopped by for their Omaha Restaurant Week $30 price point tonight! Attempted to meet up with a few other foodies but will have to ensure we get a table near next time for our larger than 4-group... Ordered their Lettuce Wrap and Caprese Salad for course uno: The Caprese Salads first bite, was flavorful, salty, mozzarella-ee that paired excellent with their balsamic and olive oil. But bite two, left a lot to be desired... it oddly... lacked flavor? Could've very well been me, but bite one was amazing! The Lettuce Wraps a were pretty delish! Nice little kick to the sweet chili sauce, salty ginger and soy chicken, and crisp lil leaves of lettuce. Course two, we snagged their Pork Aupoive and Nebraska Roasted Corn Risotto: The Pork Aupoive had almost a floral note to it, that neither of us could quite place. The green beans (haricot verts in French), well... they weren't tender. I was sort of expecting the same texture as a string green bean but they were terribly tough, and fibrous. I personally did not care for them, but apparently the husband likes them like that! The yukon potato's were delish, especially with the peppercorn sauce. VERY rich! The Roasted Corn risotto was definitely roasted corn; large portion too, so plenty to take home if that's your thing. Now the three, very dry, tough, thankfully cleaned out, dry bacon wrapped shrimp... hard pass. Way too dry. And I DO love my shrimp. Last but not the least, DESSERT! Course three we chose the Key Lime Bars and Mexican Chocolate Brownie: Oh she was DEFINITELY LIME! Perfect little cheek buccal pucker to end the night. The Mexican Chocolate was quite as you'd expect it to be; great mix of cinnamon to chocolate and it just made me want a big ole vat of Mexican Hot Chocolate! Washed everything down with their Decoy; described as "vibrant aromas of fuji apple, ripe pear, and lemon zest". I had a hard time placing their vibe, between the bar feel, grill feel, antique gold leafed mirrors, modern brushed gold fixtures, and black walls. I'll have to research Neon Goose. Brunch on the patio on a beautiful Sunday morning. Service was very pleasant, albeit a little slow. I had the mushroom spinach omelette and breakfast potatoes. The omelette was a little salty (I think it was the spinach) for my taste but the Swiss cheese in it was delicious! The potatoes were a little dry and lacking in seasoning but I still enjoyed my meal. The Hypnotic Mimosa was a fun try. Sunday was not a great experience at one of my long time favorites, Taxi's! I ordered an egg white omelette with spinach and mushrooms and I received a regular omelette. Plus I said NO scallions & there were scallions all over the top! Wait person said she wrote no scallions and walked off. Obviously I did not enjoy my brunch at all. My Mom & niece both ordered the Grand Marnier French toast. It was gigantic wedges that were very dry. Both of them did not enjoy their meals either. The restaurant did not have many customers as we arrived right at 10:00 AM when they opened. The mistake on my order completely falls on the staff person. Plus we had to ask others for coffee refills. We all agreed we will not return here again. After patronizing Taxi's Grille & Bar for years, the poor execution of the staff person not writing my order down correctly and not offering a replacement of my original order, does not warrant coming here anymore! read more

Made a reservation for Sunday Brunch right at open. There were quite a few others who arrived at open too; probably 1/3rd of the restaurant filled. The visit was a return visit for a couple of the people who loved the Bacon Bloody Mary, they once again ordered and liked them. I decided to do the bread pudding on special which was served warm with lots of berries and a scoop of ice cream. Another guest enjoyed the Grand Marnier French Toast; this is good but is very rich (think fried bread) and we'd probably just do a side order instead next time. Other dishes were good-portions with fresh ingredients. The drink menu had interesting options too. Our server wasn't bad, just would've expected more timeliness and check-ins. By far one of the best restaurants in Omaha. The first time I tried the velvet chicken I literally remarked it as the best pasta I've ever had. I order it every once in a while and finally got around to trying something else and the pot roast was... perfect! Even on delivery it was perfectly moist, deliciously seasoned, and all and all just incredible. I'm going to have to come back and try even more on the menu because the two dishes I have tried have both been amazing. I recommend this place highly! read more

First visit and it was great! We were there for lunch and it was busy but there were a couple tables still. I would bet there is often a wait for a table. A small quaint, comfortable place. It could be for a special occasion or casual, it just had that feel of either. The food was fabulous. We had the tomato basil lavash with mozzarella and balsamic it was crisp and flavorful! I had the BLT on sourdough with an egg - it is a thick very filling sandwich. It came with FF that are hand cut and fried to perfection with just the right amount of salt! I went in yesterday on my break to have a glass of wine and take care of some personal stuff at the bar. Well Christy the bartender has a major chip on her shoulder. It's almost like she recognizes me but I don't know her. I sat there for 15 mins after I told her I wanted a drink but she wouldn't ask me what I wanted to drink. Oh my gosh I love this place! Came here with a friend for lunch and the food was incredible. I got the pot roast and my friend ordered the French dip and a side of soup. The soup of the day was sweet potato and toasted pistachio which I tried a bite of and was shockingly good, I didn't expect to enjoy it as much as I did. And then there was what they called Creme Brulee. I have eaten Creme Brulee from Omaha to Paris. Taxi's has been an Omaha staple for quite some time, and it's easy to see why! We have celebrated many special occasions there and eaten several things on the menu. The vibe is very upscale with black and white wood walls and black and white paintings, as well as a few pieces of art in color for pops throughout the black and white. There are also a few cool lighting fixtures hanging from the ceiling. The seating consists of wooden booths with caramel leather upholstery and black middle tables, as well as black tables at the center of the restaurant with glossy wooden chairs. The service is always excellent, with each server always knowing any answer to a question we may have and with wonderful recommendations whenever we ask. On our last visit, we happened to stop in during Omaha Restaurant Week so it was a little bit busier than we were used to - but that was great to see. We didn't have a wait for seating or anything, as we went a little later in the evening, though. Some of our favorite dishes were featured on the Omaha Restaurant Week menu, so we decided to go with that format because it included a starter and dessert choice for a great price! For our starters, we had the BLT Lavosh and the House Salad: -The Lavosh was excellent and did remind me of a BLT in flavor and a little bit in the texture with the crunchy Lavosh standing in for the toasty BLT bread :-) -The House Salad was refreshing and tasty with small mandarin oranges and blue cheese crumbles to cut the citrusy sweetness. The entrees we chose were: -Salmon Dinner: This is what I get at Taxi's most of the time when we visit, anyway, so this visit was no different. It is a perfectly cooked piece of salmon on top of a green risotto that consists of sweet corn, artichoke, tomato, and other veggies. The risotto is so divine, we even usually order a side of it separately just to snack on or take home! -Pork Au Poivre: This was a new dish for me at Taxi's, but it was extremely satisfying and hearty. It consisted of roasted pork tenderloin medallions, mashed potatoes, and a peppercorn and brandy cream gravy. It all worked together SO well, I was shocked. The pork melted right in your mouth and wasn't chewy at all like pork can sometimes be, but it geniusly had a crispy crust on the outside to give it a little more toothsome of a bite in each medallion. For desserts, we had -Key Lime Pie: I LOVE anything key lime, so this was a no-brainer for me. It was a creamy, decadent piece of key lime pie that came covered in delicious zesty cream topping and little lime garnishes. Yum! -Bread Pudding: I know that bread pudding can come in a thousand different flavors, and this one was a luxurious strawberries and cream style, with vanilla ice cream to boot! It was delightful and we made short work of it, as we shared both desserts. If you're looking for a nice date night spot, need a good place to have a business dinner, or just want a quality meal that won't break the bank - you can never go wrong with Taxi's! read more

This is one of those reviews that I was tempted to keep to myself, but my wife insisted they I shouted the news to this gem of a restaurant they everyone in Omaha should get the chance to try. My wife and I had passed by this place on 120th and Blondo a number of times, and wanted to check it out, so when we found out that they were participating in Omaha Restaurant Week, it sounded like the perfect time to give it a go. The sad part was that we were a week early for restaurant week, but the wonderful part was that we found a new stellar restaurant to frequent. From the outside, Taxi's looks like a regular bar, and once inside the ambiance is bar like as well, but that is where the typical ends and the terrific begins. We were welcomed by a server and seated in a booth, who promptly took our drink order and told us the specials, then gave us a few minutes to look over the menu. The special sounded good to me, braised pork shank with mashed potatoes, gravy and green beans, and my wife selected the velvet chicken, which was a chicken breast on linguini topped with a cheesy wine sauce. When the food came out I was in awe, it was fine dining at it best, in a bar, I kid you not. The perk was fall off the bone tender, and it did just that, the mashed potatoes were rustic, chunky and delicious, the gravy was amazing, and the green beans were cooked perfectly, with just a bite of crunch and seasoning. My wife's chicken was also tender and juicy, with a creamy cheese sauce that brought the chicken and pasta to life. The portion size was enough for us to take home for a second meal and even as a next day left over it was still amazing. We are planning on going back there again during restaurant week, and many more times after that! I ordered the ribeye steak, which was very chewy because of the gristle. Ugh. The fries had not been properly blanched, so they were sadly not crispy at all. The Caesar Salad was overdressed. And who serves a Caesar with bacon and tomatoes? The broccolini were mostly stalks and undercooked. Taxi's is highly overrated. This place definitely has an older clientele. We were the youngest people in the room by twenty years. Not a problem, just to give you an awareness of the vibe. Decor was a bit dated. Good location off blondo. The food wasn't bad, the dishes we ordered just weren't very thoughtful. The Caesar salad tasted great but had enormous croutons, which were difficult to eat because they were so crunchy. The pasta dish had some poorly cut veg and pieces of stemmy material that no one would want to eat. Just things like that; they made the eating experience harder. The pot roast was ok. Gravy texture not great, kind of gelatinous. Bland mashed potatoes. Undercooked green beans. These were basically raw. I personally didn't care for the Brussels sprouts. They came with quite a bunch of liquid and it was almost like a Brussels sprouts soup. I thought the strong flavors competed with each other. But my dining companion loved them. So to each their own. One of the high points for me were the hand cut fries. Hot and well seasoned; very tasty. Service was fine. It took a lot time to be greeted after being seated. read more

Our Book Club comes here every year! It is a great place to meet up with friends. Fantastic food, a sharp wait staff (Susannah), and delightful cocktails. There was a brief issue with our reservation, but they got everything fixed up and we couldn't have been happier. I got the orange creamsicle martini which suited my sweet tooth just fine without being overly sweet. This was our 2nd time at this restaurant since we moved to the area 4 years ago. Due to a health issue where I can't eat any type of sugar or sweetner I always have trouble with a restaurant menu. I settled for Smoked Gouda mac and cheese as I had some at another restaurant and it was delicious. It was a very nice and big serving but I was very disappointed as it didn't have any smokey taste or smell and gouda has a distinct tasted that just wasn't there. We mentioned this to the server after we had finished our meal and he apologized and asked if it wasn't smokey enough and I told him. No it was not smokey. The server was very good with suggestions and worked quickly. He was great. I doubt if we will return to this restaurant. read more
