Nice little shopping center with a wide variety of stores. I'm not usually shopping for furniture so I grab lunch at the indoor food court. I used to visit SOCO for the waffle store on the corner or the Shucks Oyster bar. Now the chocolate or red velvet cupcakes from Susiecakes draw me in. Portola Coffee is still the longstanding purveyor of fine caffeinated drinks. We Olive bar has a bevy of beverages. Palm and Patties burgers is a favorite of my foodie coworkers and me. It's a decent sized shopping center, but it's tucked in by so many commercial buildings and I would've totally missed it if I weren't looking for it. Cool spot to come and hang out for a bit. I came on a Monday between 10 am and noon. As expected, not too busy. Most people will get their coffees to go. It does get real busy here on the weekends. But I was under the impression that this place would have a constant in and out of students since they have a few Universities and trade schools around. This shop definitely gives you high end vibes! Very modern, very spacious, cool atmosphere. They have some selection of different coffee shops, breakfast places, some boutiques, a barber shop, and some furniture stores across the parking lot and a Paul Mitchell store! This is an excellent place to come and hangout for an hour or two sipping on your coffee, connecting with friends and family. Seating available inside and some outside! Lots of charging stations for electric vehicles. I would come by again. Next time that I'm around the area! read more

I would love to leave a great review about this place, because I do like coming here. However, I'm currently at the Mix and I cannot find anyone who manages the center so I must leave my complaint here. Every time I come here the bathrooms are closed for cleaning. And it happens multiple times during my visit! It's nice to have clean bathrooms, but not when you have to wait 10-15 minutes every time you need to pee. read more

Hidden gem among the market is the cheese shop! We stopped here on a pitstop drive back from San Diego to Los Angeles. We were looking for a quick bite to eat and found the cheese shop. It is such a diamond in the rough. Their sandwiches are made to order, and they were delicious! I got the turkey sandwich, I believe it was called the Californian. We also got a melty grilled cheese, for my daughter. We were in heaven and it was the perfect lunch pick-me-up on the drive. It's hard to navigate and find this spot, because it's in the middle of what looks to be a little mall. There are a few different options around, but if you were looking for a solid sandwich with amazingly tasty bread, I would definitely visit the spot! read more

Imagine a small artsy park with shops and eateries! The OC mix is an indoor/outdoor shopping plaza with a park like feel. In fact, I would not refer to this as a shopping plaza at all. It is more like an upscale farmer's market filled with unique and individually owned shops with specialty items. The outside area has plenty of seating, unique areas with unique plants. It has a very artsy vibe. This is a very unique place with lots to see, just relax or sit with a buddy to talk over coffee or even to get some work done. My favorite places definitely include the cheese shop with wine, Portola Coffee and the outside area is amazing. Shops include clothing, tea, a barber, alcohol shop, a barber and lots of eateries and desserts. This is a great place to just stop at for a bit. Lots of space and totally spaced for social distancing. I am a fan. read more

Home of some of the best food, coffee, and high-end floor tiles, windows, and furniture you will find in one spot. Pretty crazy to be able to get your fancy $3 coffee and then walk over and buy a $5000 dollar sofa at the same place. Because of this it's a pretty Bougie place to hang. The killer combo for us now is Hay, a Danish design store, opening the last couple years and the entry of Tacos Maria the already legendary modern Mexican place. All of the other eateries are way above average quality. We come here rarely after we moved but always stop by Portola to get a coffee and the Hay store. The landscaping is topnotch and uses indigenous plants, they are well designed and coming here always feels like the developers gave a S and wanted to make something nice. read more

The OC Mix has been one of my favorite secret spots to drop by during lunch from work.There's plenty of parking here, especially on the backside facing Shuck's Oyster Bar. There are a lot of small eateries and boutiques located here. Sadly, a lot of them closed down due to Covid. Hopefully it will get better with time. Nonetheless, The OC Mix is still a great hangout spot for everyone. I recommend picking up an artisan sandwich from the Cheese Shop, some sweets from SusieCakes, and a beverage from Portola Coffee! read more

This is a cool space to hang out. They have several shops and drink places you can grab a quick bite. However, keep in mind some of these places closed early. Lots of open seating outside, where you can meet a friend and socially distance. We came here to check out Sunright Tea, but because all the other places were closed, we decided to go somewhere else that we can get food too. Came by with some coworkers after work and got to try a lot of different foods here! This place has a lot of different stands ranging from wines to cheese and sandwiches. This place is like a whole cafeteria of different food and drinks! The highlight of this trip has got to be the granny smith sandwich from The Cheese Shop. They have great sandwiches (shout out to the Granny Smith) and an even greater selection of cheeses. Would definitely come back and try out all the other foods available here. But I would definitely avoid the wine bar here (looking at you, We Olive & Wine bar). Overall, my experience here was good until I decided to end the night at the wine bar and the mood was killed by a rude worker (sounds like it was the owner). read more

Why is this place so underrated? There's a Michelin star restaurant here (Taco Maria) and a Michelin guide restaurant (Arc Libations). The OC mix is hidden, from the parking lot driving by you wouldn't know there's a cute courtyard with plenty of outdoor seating and a little hall with shops and food. My favorite açaí bowl place is here --Birdie Bowl, one of my favorite tea places is here --Sunright Tea, there's a coffee shop, brunch place, oyster bar, and a Susie Cakes bakery. read more

Posting 4 stars because I find it ironic with all the home furnishing stores surrounding this establishment, The OC Mix itself cannot seem to provide more outlets and simple "blinds" for shading - for people to comfortably work along the walls. This is a trendy spot for a cup of coffee or shopping. It's quiet, the shops are upscale and so are the clientele. Their Christmas special in December is well organized and completely free. It's funny. Two years ago when this opened I would have given this place 1 star review but luckily never got around to writing it. I just didn't get it. At that time it was new and only 50% occupied with these bizarre indie hipster places I just didn't understand. I remember one store that had chairs made from cardboard and another store with a handful of books just laying on the concrete ground. I didn't get it. But... this place did have one magical place that opened my taste buds to a whole new world of coffee. Portola Coffee. It was love at first sip and it kept bringing me back to this lame mall hybrid. Slowly but surly the lame stores went under and new stores took over. Now I love coming here and enjoy almost every store the OC Mix has. Portola is still the beacon that pulls me in but I love the unique restaurants which number grow everyday, the culinary stores such as the cheese shop & spice shop, and even the hipster eclectic stores. In one place I can purchase black truffle gouda cheese, sip a hot cup of pu erh tea, shuck down a raw oyster, and browse thru vinyl records after checking out furniture. Amazing how a 1 star place a few years ago is now one of my favorite places to hang out at. I can't wait to see how this place evolves in the future and the SOCO plaza itself it becoming so much more than a bunch of furniture stores. Even when my wife says "Hey, I want to go to TPT" I don't cringe in dread since I know the OC Mix is just a few steps away. She can look at cheesy home decorations while I sip on some of the best coffee in town! read more

Where do I start? First, I love this place because of the eclectic mix of shops. Second, it has some of my favorite stores. Third, the people who come here and enjoy it usually go around bug eyed about the incredible variety. Fourth, the outside gardens and tables are really inviting, so California friendly, and a native landscaper's trial mock-up (take away some ideas). My favorites in this mall (in no particular order) are Portola Coffee Lab, N'Ice Cream, Christopher Garrens Let Them Eat Cake, Iron Press, Chuck Jones Center, Rolling Greens, Shuck Oyster Bar, The SoCo Farmer's Market, etc..... (Sorry to all those I have yet to list. I have to stop somewhere) Many of these I have reviewed. There is a zen to this place that just seems to center me. Hope you enjoy it as well. I have seen some low star reviews, but I think to each their own. Being one who likes to go to swap meets and Farmer's Markets; and really detests the South Coast Plaza scene, I suspect those reviews are ones by people who prefer the latter. If you prefer South Coast Plaza or Fashion Island, please go there.... Me, I will stick to what I like. read more

I wish I discovered this place sooner!! I always see the OC Mix when I'm on the 405 and I always wondered what it was... but I never knew how much I was missing out on!! I originally stumbled upon this mellow cute hipster-vibe area when I was on a search for oysters leading me to Shuck Oyster Bar, my favorite oyster spot of all times!! Ever since then I have been meeting up with many friends here. I've also been to Iron Press, Portolla Coffee Lab, and some of the other boutique looking shops. The Taco Maria food truck actually has a restaurant location here!! I haven't been to the actual spot, but I've have food from that food truck and it's definitely some fancy delicious gourmet food!! I still have yet to try We Olive &Wine Bar, Seventh Tea Bar and N'ice cream. They have a lot of free space for students to come and study or for friends to come to catch up and chill. And of course, this is a cute place for a date. There are tables and couches. The courtyard area is gorgeous at night!! My friend was using their fountain as a photo opportunity and she kept on taking selfies!! I really like the ambiance here. It would be a nice place just to walk around in too :) read more

This is a pretty unique 'mix'. Located in the South Coast Collection (SOCO or OCOS from the 405 north of Harbor), it complements the large neighboring stores while providing its own unique twist. Instead of focusing on big box store giants, they have individual vendors with distinctive and creative items for sale. Definitely a place to go for a unique gift in a variety of price ranges. In addition to a space to sell individual items, they have Food Trucks on Tuesdays and a Farmers Market on Saturdays. It's still new, so I think they are still working on adding more vendors in their "phase 2". I came to check this place out a while ago, and then came again for a Yelp event. That, and the fact that they are currently selling a vintage Marantz receiver very similar to the one that my grandfather owned (and that I inherited) gets me a little misty. Savory Spice Stop They sell aji amarillo. Hear that, Peruvian cuisine fans? Where else are you going to get that? Even Penzey's doesn't carry aji amarillo. We Olive & Wine Bar Come for the olive oil. Stay for the beer and wine. They sometimes have live music, too. The Mix is self-contained within SoCo, which also has a number of shops and restaurants worth checking out like Surfas and The Iron Press (refer to my review). There's no place quite like The Mix.
