Old school diner, cash only. Good service. What I was looking for but otherwise nothing special. Good portion size.

Shelly is behind the griddle and cooks up a storm. Tourists, keep in mind that this is not fancy with music and artwork for sale on the wall. This is a real diner with counter stools and booths. I had the Greek Eggs for breakfast, which is a delicious combination of Greek spices, potatoes, sausage and other yummy treats. Toast comes with it (sadly not gluten-free), but you need to order and home fries, etc. I like that. You pay for what you want, not some inflated plate of extras. Note: you won't see the Greek Eggs on the printed menu. Ask for the specials. Greek Eggs are always there. My wife loved the raisin French toast. She said that it did not need syrup. I am told to try the Goulash for lunch by several people. It sounds great. If you are looking for a fancy or romantic meal, look elsewhere. Want a fancy vibe to impress, look elsewhere. This may be the smallest diner we've visited (one of them, at least) but it makes up for that in quality and attention to the customers. A few booths and a few tables on the right, a half dozen stools at the counter, and the magic shop along the left wall. There's a bit of counter / bench, a sink, a prep area, a cooktop, and a grill. It's clean, efficient, and full of friendly people (staff and locals). The breakfast menu is simple: eggs, pancakes, French toast, omelettes, and the usual sides. We got 2 eggs over easy, one with bacon, one with sausage, home fries, and toast. The eggs were cooked perfectly (they look more done in the photo but were nicely runny) and the bacon was crisp and smoky. I didn't get to try my be wife's sausage, but (a) that itself says something and (b) she said it was really good, not the "supermarket" grade that some places serve. Coffee was good, staff were all super friendly - I would definitely go there again.

And no, I did not "tell them how to run their restaurant" as the petulant owner says below. To be helpful, since I was solo, I asked for a counter seat not a table though there were a bunch empty. The attitudinal counter person snapped "there's a waiting list." When I asked how long, she made a face and said "maybe 15 minutes." Seeing that there were at least four empty tables (and no visible line), and not really wanting to wait 15 minutes for a counter seat, I asked if a two-top were possible. Now she flips out and yells "I said 15 minutes, what do you want a job telling me how to run this place?" I've worked pretty much every restaurant job in my youth from busboy to dishwasher to waiter to kitchen prep -- including in the Berkshires -- and would have been immediately fired if I ever went nuclear on a customer over a harmless question. Instead I got breakfast at another -- friendly, family-owned -- Pittsfield diner, had a great quick meal and tipped 30%. Some people get so full of themselves and their drama. You're serving eggs to your neighbors, not working the velvet rope at an exclusive club.

The service was so friendly and so efficient. Since my friends and I are doing "dry January" we order faux mimosas...which we made ourselves at the table...sparkling water and orange juice. We had coffee and teas (a good selection of teas!) The two best items we tried were the Full Stack Lemon Ricotta Pancakes & the Eggs Benedict with Avocado, Bacon & Brie Eggs Benedict. The pancakes were lemony and creamy and not too sweet. The Benedict was savory, the poached eggs were perfectly cooked (runny), and the English muffins were toasted to perfection. The avocado and bacon and Brie was so savory and creamy and in sync with the hollandaise sauce. SO GOOD! We also had the Sweet Potato Bacon Hash, which tasted delicious but the texture was a little mashed potato-like. I wished the potatoes had a bit more structure. The Corned Beef Hash (side) was not special, just basic corned beef hash. Large fruit plate was fresh with a great variety of fruit! I will come back again for sure!

Everything was really good, Lemon Ricotta pancakes were so subtle in all flavors yet really good, not over powering just delish. It was all edible, but there were problems with every single thing we ordered. We started with the marinated mushroom & sausage flatbread: one of the better items and fairly tasty with a tomato sauce base, could have used a tart element like a balsamic drizzle to wake it up a bit. My husband got the Korean bbq burger, which at $27 was honestly a bit insane and doubly so when it wasn't good. There's not a single thing that was wrong, the whole conception is an epic fail. A beef burger should not have an intense taste of soy. Sorry, harsh but true. The exorbitant price is insult to injury. The ham and cheese croquettes should never have been offered with the cinnamon sugar dusting. Another bizarre pairing that makes no sense in your mouth and adds nothing. The dijonnaise was good if a bit mild... amp up the savory flavor and put more ham in the mix with a touch more salt please. Finally, the Public Salad was a good base but needs a bit of a vinegar component to make it sing. I'd recommend red wine vinegar, just a small splash in the dressing. Overall enjoyed it and the chicken was adequately moist. Thank you for having us.

(Hit on "Greek" because of the lunch options and "eggs" for the breakfast.) After a brief wait, we were seated along with what seemed to be mostly be well known regulars. The Sunday specials looked really good, and I really had to make a tough choice. I'm a sucker for house made corned beef hash, but when I saw Eggs Electra, I had to try it (always try something different). I mean, thin slices of lamb and tomato, a homemade "feta biscuit" (what was that anyway?), and hollandaise - had to try it. The feta biscuit was the star of the show. Apparently grill-toasted, crispy on the top and biscuit-crumbly, it was loaded with flavor. I could eat one of those every day and be very happy. The lamb slices (~4-5 layers) were thin and just enough for the combination. Of the two eggs, one was a over cooked (tiny pocket of runny yolk, but mostly hard cooked) and the other was perfect. The hollandaise was smooth and looked good, but lacking in flavor. More lemon would help a lot - maybe order with a request until a couple lemon wedges. It's a lot of food, possibly a good thing to split (and get a side of the corned beef hash?). My wife had the traditional eggs Benedict and had the same egg issue (one hard, one perfect) and the same comment about the hollandaise. Because hers was just on an English muffin, she didn't have the extra flavor, and said it was "OK." That's a limited sampling, and I'd probably give it another evaluation if I'm in the area again. The 4+ rating is fair, so see what you think.

No water, no bread. Had to ask for water. Our appetizers came quickly. The caprese salad was delicious. Then about a half an hour later our waitress comes out advising they were out of the venison. My husband had ordered it. She left to get the menu (when she should have had it with her) came back, my husband ordered the haddock. She said ok, left and came back about five minutes later advising that they were out of that too. At this point my husband had to look at the menu. Our waitress apologized for the inconvenience and explained how more than several dishes were not available and that they had to close the restaurant an hour earlier due to this. My husband settled on the salmon. By the time we got our food, it was cold. I ordered scallops. And I should have taken a picture - it was pathetic. It looked like an appetizer it was so small. The asparagus was cold, and the scallops had no flavor. I ate a few bites but it was so disappointing. The salmon was also just ok. Nothing special. Our waitress assured we would get dessert fast if we wanted it but we didn't wanna bother considering everything. She apologized again, saying she would talk to the manager and that he would come over to talk to us. He never did come over. They took off my scallops from the bill at least. But this was by far the worst experience ever. A few small suggestions and the experience may have been better - provide water at the beginning, we shouldn't have had to wait 1/2 an hour to get some, bring us the bread, we shouldn't have to ask for it and during the wait it should have been offered as a courtesy for the absurd long wait and frustration for not having the meal my husband wanted, and if you say a manager would come over, they should come over. The meal started out ok but it just got worse and worse. My husband and I paid our bill quickly and left. He had to get me food elsewhere as I was still very hungry.
