My husband and I consider ourselves regulars at Otto's. We eat here frequently with our friends. We have a running joke.... All roads lead back to Otto's. I/we have never experienced poor quality food or service. The staff is always welcoming and the food never disappoints. Thought this place seemed nice, but the counter person is extremely rude and has some sort of Napoleon complex. Never going back. And no, I did not "tell them how to run their restaurant" as the petulant owner says below. To be helpful, since I was solo, I asked for a counter seat not a table though there were a bunch empty. The attitudinal counter person snapped "there's a waiting list." When I asked how long, she made a face and said "maybe 15 minutes." Seeing that there were at least four empty tables (and no visible line), and not really wanting to wait 15 minutes for a counter seat, I asked if a two-top were possible. Now she flips out and yells "I said 15 minutes, what do you want a job telling me how to run this place?" I've worked pretty much every restaurant job in my youth from busboy to dishwasher to waiter to kitchen prep -- including in the Berkshires -- and would have been immediately fired if I ever went nuclear on a customer over a harmless question. Instead I got breakfast at another -- friendly, family-owned -- Pittsfield diner, had a great quick meal and tipped 30%. Some people get so full of themselves and their drama. Otto's is hands-down one of the best spots in Pittsfield. The staff is incredible, the food is consistently amazing, and they serve a fantastic brunch that alone is worth coming back for again and again. What really sets this place apart is the owner. She does real, meaningful good for the community -- feeding the hungry, helping rescue dogs in Puerto Rico, and keeping creeps trying to indoctrinate kids out of schools. I had the biscuits and gravy with a side of eggs over easy; wife had the eggs florentine. Although they don't advertise it on their website, they do have a full bar, so Bloody Marys and mimosas are available. Food was delish. The biscuits and gravy was more like a giant bowl of sausage gravy with biscuits, but I'm not complaining. I would recommend splitting with 2 or more people. This place has the most amazing decor! Very artsy, eclectic and quaint at the same time. Service was good. Love all the funny signs! The food was good. We had the eggs Benedict, both regular and Irish (with corn beef hash). The regular was ok, eggs were a bit undercooked. The corn beef hash was better. The cheesy grits were good but a bit watery. We visited this spot with a pretty big group. They accommodated us and the service was quick. Mostly everyone ordered different items and were happy with the food. 4 of us ordered the chicken and waffles and OMG best chicken and waffles I've ever had. What a great find-- you are greeted by a T shirt display with nasty Yelp remarks, which will bring a smile to your face! Warmly welcomed and seated by the window -in a good mood as we're laughing about those T shirts. Iced tea all around, nice big sandwiches with masses of fries, some of us went for salad (also tasty). We picked up food from Otto's to take back to our hotel. Getting it take out, could have affected the quality. We ordered the buttermilk chicken tenders with Mac salad, the grilled cheese brisket with fries, and a side of cheesy grits. The buttermilk tenders were incredible. They were crispy and nicely seasoned. The Mac salad was basic but still solid. It was mayo based. I like my Mac salad to be a little tangy but this one was not tangy. The brisket grilled cheese was good. The bread was a bit soggy because of the juices from the brisket. Flavor wise, it was nicely seasoned and tender. It came with pickled red onions which is can be an acquired combination. The fries were incredible. They were crispy and salted nicely. They were the type that had the skin on them in shoestring form. Soooo good! The grits....omg. I couldn't believe how good they were. They had the perfect amount of cheese. It wasn't very grainy. Such a perfect consistency. Mixed with the chicken tenders? Match made in heaven. The service was good. Well, I have mixed feelings about this place, we tried to go there on Monday, Labor Day because the biz info said it was open till 2pm. I drove up there and they decided to close at noon and didn't answer the phone at 12:01 with us outside looking in. Always nice if there's some warning about holiday hours on the door or on the business page is so tourists don't get stuck outside. But we did return the next day passing through that area. I was a little taken back by all the rude comments on staff T-shirts from other reviewers that thought the staff was rude or unfriendly. All the staff is wearing these comments on their backs and it kind of set not very positive expectations from the get-go. A negative vibe, and I guess owner thinks it's funny that customers share bad experiences? I did also feel bad for the college age kids that were ahead of us who were abruptly greeted and scolded for bringing in a coffee cup. I get it but try to be nicer about it. Our second server was new and still friendly. I had a omelette, ($19) with beef brisket, mushrooms & Swiss. It hit the spot but the side of potato home fries were burnt beyond a crisp of their life and inedible. Sourdough toast was very cold n dry like it was sitting a while. Coffee was good. My companion had the eggs Benedict. The ham was a very thin slice and the hollandaise sauce was absolutely bland. I felt bad for the couple that arrived after us that sat there waiting about 15 minutes before getting their order taken, and it was very empty Restaurant. I did appreciate that they have a "Pay It Forward" board, so we bought a sandwich and coffee for someone in need in the future. I guess I'd recommend going up the road to Bob's diner for a lighter experience next time. We decided to get Otto's for brunch and we were not disappointed. The items we tried were exceptionally delicious... the chicken tenders and hand cut fries were crispy and flavorful with the honey mustard sauce. The Buttermilk pancakes were soft and fluffy and amazing with real Butter & Maple syrup with a side of thick crunchy bacon were delightful. The Texas toast style French toast were perfectly made and came with butter, maple syrup, and more bacon! None of these items were left after we finished. I would highly recommend this restaurant for breakfast, brunch, or lunch! Delivery was quick and efficient.. food was packaged well and very appetizing upon sight. The restaurant itself is always busy and worth a visit. We will definitely order from this place again in the future. Go get some brunch there is my advice! read more

I love this place! Food is always good. I've even hired them for catering for a company event which was stellar! And the biggest thing I love about Otto's is how they don't let customers push them around and be rude. They call them out and treat them the same way the customers treat the staff. Service industry workers, especially wait staff have lived too long in the world of "the customer is always right, smile and move on." NO! If you can't be a decent human being to other human beings you deserve to get treated the same way. These folks even embraced this by making up staff T-shirts with their bad reviews about them being rude to staff. It's hysterical! My experience at Otto's was welcoming and delicious. I attended a private event. The parking was a tad limited. But don't worry, a parking spot always wiggles loose somehow. The food was yummy, the drinks were on the strong side with a dash of perfection. The wait staff and bartender friendly and quick. I would love to come back and try more of the menu. read more

OMG, I can't believe this place. On the day we went, Christmas Day, the only thing on the menu were pancakes and bacon. I can understand a limited menu on a small holiday like this, so I guess it wasn't too big of a deal. It's what I was going to order anyway. You know the worst part of it?? They didn't even tell me the cost for this! No bill brought at all, so I left what I wanted to when I departed. All everyone was saying as I left was "Merry Christmas!," "Happy Holidays!," and even a "Happy Hanukkah!," as I walked out. In all seriousness, Luke and Lindsey have created a special place here in Pittsfield, and these "pay what you want" events are just a sliver of care they bring to everyone that visits. In addition to the restaurant, they support other local businesses with their work, and support the Clapp Park Little Sled Library. Stop in when you can, and support them. They deserve it. read more

Looking for a casual place for Sat am breakfast and found Otto's. Street parking is a real challenge if you want to eat here. We were seated quickly at 9am. I picked eggs benedict. The egg was very small on the english muffin and the hollandaise sauce was bland. Husband had bacon, eggs & French toast which he enjoyed. We love coffee but we did not request a 2nd cup here. Wait staff were pleasant and attentive, but $50 for breakfast is a little steep. We might come back and try the lunch menu. read more

I understand that Otto's has a reputation for its service, and if that was the point and they played into it more in an overt way that was meant to be enjoyed, I wouldn't care. If it was a situation where if someone is rude they are going to go super hard back, I would applaud. But it seemed to be the intent was to take out negative feelings on others and be mean spirited. I will say that the server we had was lovely, and a couple of the other servers we interacted with were super kind. There was however one staff member who was excessively rude. We asked for a table and told we couldn't be seated until everyone was present, 3 minutes later, our party is here and the wait is 20 minutes, and then said we had to wait outside. Did not see any signage that that was a rule but whatever. Then, when we were seated, she glared at us throughout our meal. And then on top of that, we waited over 30 minutes after we ordered to receive our food. And the food wasn't great. So much was bland: potato chips and house potatoes were cooked fine but not seasoned, not even with salt. The hollandaise sauce tasted strongly of lemon and was bubbling light so it just deflated: not the rich and creamy sauce you expect. The only consistently decent thing was the decorations, but definitely won't be coming back just to enjoy that. read more

It would have been funny if it wasn't so annoying, from start to finish. We called to ask if they take reservations and were told Yes, so we made a reservation for brunch. We showed up and after waiting to be noticed, were told they don't take reservations, but could make a "reservation" on the wait list and it would take "15-20 minutes" to be seated and we'd have to wait outside (fortunately it was a lovely day). We asked if we could have one of the tables by the windows at the front, quieter than in the main room, because one of us is hard of hearing. They said they would save one for us - both were empty at the time. So we went to the park across the street, and half an hour later got a text saying our table was ready. Both the window tables were still empty, but we were shown to a table in the middle of the main room. When we reminded them we wanted one of the window tables we were told, "Sorry, they're reserved." Huh?? I started to question this but was interrupted by I guess the manager, who said, and I quote, "You can't switch tables. If you don't like it you can leave." Apparently this is their business model. They even have t-shirts with quotes touting their rude service. I thought it was a cool, funny marketing gimmick till we discovered it's no joke. Also, the food was at best mediocre. My omelette was watery and tasteless, even after being heavily salt-and-peppered. And the coffee was weak. read more

Woman at the counter tells us it will be 15 minutes and to wait either outside (Seriously?!?) or in our car (parked down the block) for a text even though no one else was waiting and there's a loveseat couch right there we could sit on to wait. (Why is it there?) Made absolutely No Sense. She acted like it did. (If you're short staffed then say you're short staffed and be apologetic about it.) Coffee was good. Everything else was bad. Hash browns were just chunks of mushy red potatoes, the special omelette were special only in the extravagant price tag. It was supposed to have caramelized onions but we had undercooked diced onions. It was supposed to have bacon, nope, and I did find one bite that had goat cheese but the rest was provolone. Took forever to get the food from the kitchen so maybe they ran out of pretty much everything that was supposed to be in the $18 special. Started our weekend getaway with this delicious breakfast spot! We all got different items and enjoyed all of it. I had "The Tater Tot" bowl. Perfect balance of scrambled eggs, tots, and cheese. With some toast on the side it was just delightful. Bacon was melt in your mouth delicious!!! Pancakes come in a LARGE short stack of 2 or a full stack. Buttery, fluffy and cooked well. Irish Benny amazing. Egg poached to perfection, hash was chefs kiss and the home fries were seasoned great. The late night came with bacon, 2 eggs, toast, and a pancake. The Lupy Lindsey drink tasted JUST like a fruit loop! Dangerously delicious and refreshing. Not overly liquored but that's okay for 10am lol read more

Visiting from out of town....(used to live here 3 years ago), we stayed at Hotel on North and headed out for breakfast. We went to 3 stops along North Street to places we remembered were good. Luckily we ended here. It was delicious, the oatmeal was perfect and I had a heaping portion full of walnuts and Granny Smith apples. The breakfast wrap was just as good, service was excellent and the ambiance was industrial chic!! Love the changes from what it was previously. I definitely recommend!! read more

If you read reviews for this locale, you've no doubt noticed that there is an interesting dynamic between customers who post poor reviews and the owner that responds to each of those poor reviews. So first off you have to have a sense of humor if you are going to eat here and have a good experience. And second - don't go if you are starving and need food immediately. With that context set, here's a bit about our experience: The first time we came here was on a busy summer weekend for brunch. There was a long wait even after we were seated, so we were hungry and upset. In hindsight it was the thick of COVID so it was a tough time for restaurants to find adequate staff. One year later we came in again and the wait was only half an hour. If you are not starving when you go, I think you'll really enjoy your breakfast/brunch. The menu is quite varied, individually made and done very well. The servers are nice - and yes, they are all aware of the reviews and are ok with it. So go check out the place, but maybe just don't go when you are starving. read more

I live in Alaska and this was my 2nd time dining here, the first time couldn't have been any better. Food was amazing, service was so good! I stopped in again before my drive to Boston back to Alaska and was greeted by the bartender I told her it would be 4 of us, at the moment it was my young son and I that walked in. She told me to take the table by the window, we went and the table was wet and so were the chairs, from being cleaned. Which I appreciate! But I didn't want to sit on them and probably should have asked but just one table over was a booth and 2 chairs on the other side so I did notice it was dirty but there were no plates or anything. I tried to sit there and the bartender loudly said that table's dirty! I said yeah the other one the chairs and table are wet, she just pointed to a different table and said you can sit there. Idk, it just left a bad taste in my mouth. That table was also one table over so why did it matter that I tried to go to another table just one table over? There's a way to speak to people, and I get it it's annoying when a customer does something that wasn't asked of them but why speak that way? In front of all the other customers and they're all staring and you get red in the face from social anxiety and your son has a limb disability so people are already always staring at him anyway, that just brought more eyes on us. The food was great again though, I got the Texas style French toast but don't feel like stopping in anymore on my trips to the East Coast. And our waitress was also super nice read more

We were greeted with an absence of a greeting. After about 5 minutes of waiting, we approached one the group of staff members, who had all been standing there the whole time with scowls. Then we're told by another waiting patron that there was a text list we should get on. The staff member informed us that there was a wait and never even asked us for our name or number for said text waiting list. At this point we were waiting in the vestibule for 10 mins. My husband noticed a t shirt for sale reading: I was disrespected at Otto's and all I got was this lousy t shirt This is when we decided to go elsewhere.
