This was a wonderful dining experience on a Friday night. We surprisingly got a reservation for 7 PM. One of the members of our party arrived later than expected, but they were gracious and patient throughout the night. The ambience was nice as well! We started off with a round of drinks, and each one was excellent. They were well balanced, flavorful, and unique. My favorite would have to be the frozen cocktail, which I believe was newer on the menu. Although the portions are on the smaller side, the dishes themselves are fairly filling. Herbed ricotta- appetizer, good portion sizes. I thought the tomatoes were a nice touch. It is easy to forget that the dishes are vegan with this dish, which is often the the sign of an excellent vegan dish Carbonara pizza- super good, fluffy but crispy crust. Interesting flavors with a mix of sweet and savory. My only wish was that the mushroom was cooked because they tasted raw. Probably my favorite dish ordered Tagliatelli- I loved the texture of the noodles. The lemon nori butter was refreshing and tart. I obviously used to be a very big fan of this restaurant even through the location change. I've noticed in my last 8-10 visits that the service is subpar at best. Slow as can be. I shouldn't be starting to eat the food I was planning on taking home because I've been sitting so long waiting for a box. You could have gotten me to buy dessert and an extra glass of wine if I didn't have to wait 30 mins after I've finished eating to be checked on. I was waiting on this review because I frequent this establishment quite a bit but not anymore. The food is great but service means way more to me and I haven't had good service here in months. My expectations were high for this place, and it honestly let me down a little bit which is why it's a three out of five for me. The restaurant itself was tighter than I thought, and the lighting may be nice for some but with it being loud and dark it was just a lot happening. We had the watercress salad with roasted grapes which was a decent salad. The Calabrian pizza was spicy but tasty ( I'm not a huge fan of spice, so my husband enjoyed it more but I loved the figs on it) My ravioli with almond ricotta was good but confusing. When I got it it was cold, and I mean ICE COLD in the middle. So I asked the waiter if that is how it's supposed to be cause I've never had a ravioli like that. The flavors were nice but it being cold was a little off putting. He said he wasn't sure but he would take it back and get a new order. When I had the second attempt, I actually bit into frozen almond ricotta and it honestly disappointed me. The highlight of the night was the Tirimisu, I haven't been able to enjoy a dairy free Tirimisu ever so it was everything I dreamed of and more. I did the pasta tasting, which was five courses of pasta with a bottle of wine (we chose the non-alcoholic option). I was really impressed - in my opinion, the pasta totally outshines all the fancy West Village restaurants. Bucatini - my favorite dish. The arrabiata sauce was bright and spicy, and the noodles had a wonderful al dente texture. Cappelletti - really creative and unique. The dumplings had a bit of bite to them, but gave way to a soft and creamy filling. The brodo was warming and flavorful, with nice aromatic notes and intoxicating truffle perfume. Gigli - savory and creamy, with nice variation from the fried leeks. Bigoli - super peppery and creamy. There were some nice floral notes from the pepper as well. And the pistachio added some unique notes as well. Tagliatelle - very tart and intense. There was a bit of a bitter note that made this not my favorite - probably from the broccoli rabe. Still very interesting. The non alcoholic wine option was a carbonated rosehip tea. It was delicious and slightly complex. I'm not sure it necessarily pairs well with any pasta in particular, but I really enjoyed it. The bill came to about $190 after tax and tip for two. This place is amazing. For starters, my server Madi and the bartender Manu were great company. Manu played great music, made delicious drinks, and was a fun conversationalist. Madi showed me a bunch of great wines from across the world with super detailed flavor profiles, truly a fun wine-tasting experience. From Italy, to Slovenia, I tasted notes of strawberries, chocolate, raspberry and more. She also made impeccable food suggestions and I was blown away by the focaccia, ravioli and arracinhi. We topped it off with a tiramisu. Focaccia- crispy on the outside, soft, warm and buttery on the inside. The garlic and chili pepper paste to dip was a nice contrast to the usual olive oil at most spots. Arracinhi- also very crispy. The star of the show here was the tomato sauce. Sweet and savory. Just straight up some great tomatoes. Ravioli- Wow. Just WOW. A very happy marriage between lemon and creaminess. You would never guess it's vegan. While it only came with 3 pieces, it was pretty filling. It also had these juicy mushrooms and sweet grape tomatoes that really added to the deliciousness. Tiramisu- Delicious. Not too sweet, surprisingly a bit chocolatey. Great way to end the meal. I don't eat a lot of vegan food but after this meal I'd like to add some vegan spots to my rotation. Even my boyfriend, who said he didn't want to eat vegan food, will most definitely be coming back. I would be more than happy to try the rest of the food, cocktails, and wines at this spot. My favorite meal I had on my last trip to New York. Everything was exceptional! I sat at the bar and it wasn't too crowded on a Saturday at 6:30. Very cozy ambiance - low lighting, comfortable, not too loud. I ordered the Dear Dahlia cocktail and the carbonara pinsa. My cocktail was delightful - fizzy and fruity with a floral hint. It tasted like a very fresh alcoholic blood orange. As for the pinsa - I am not ashamed to admit that I polished off this definitely-meant-to-be-shared flatbread by myself. It was SO good, the perfect combination of salty and sweet, creamy and crunchy. The flatbread itself was crispy and delicious and all the toppings just worked incredibly well together. Came here for dinner on a Tuesday night and it was absolutely lovely! The inside is so beautifully decorated and the staff was so kind and attentive. We split the carbonara pizza which was incredible! Perfect size for 2 people and the toppings go so well together. We also got the cappelletti which was so comforting with the broth and went really well with the pizza. For dessert we got the cannoli (comes with 2) which was absolutely delicious. Out of the 6 pastas, I loved 4/6 so it's definitely a good place to go with those who love carbs and wants to try a variety of pastas. I don't think the deal itself is that great since if you do the math all you do is save a couple of dollars but it's worth it for the experience. I'm not mad, I'm just disappointed. We had heard a lot of hype about Soda Club, and we were particularly inspired to go after being hugely impressed by their sister restaurant Third Kingdom. When it comes to Italian food, I feel like a restaurant has to come through either with big comforting portions (e.g. John's of 12th Street), or some kind of innovation (e.g. Coletta). Soda Club didn't really do either. We started with the focaccia and herbed ricotta appetizer, which was good but not memorable. A few skinny slices of toasted focaccia. In terms of pasta, I had my heart set on something with red sauce, so I was shocked to hear that only one pasta dish on the entire menu had tomato sauce! We got this one dish, the bucatini, which was good enough but underportioned. The other pasta dishes all sounded really rich and creamy or had too many fried components, so despite having come to Soda Club (a self-proclaimed pasta bar) expressly for pasta, we ended up getting a pizza as our other entree. We asked which of the three pizzas had tomato sauce, and we were informed that one of them did - the current special - so that's the one we ordered. It came with vegan chorizo, mushrooms, and microgreens. It notably did not have tomato sauce. It was a weird but pretty tasty dish, and thank goodness it filled us up after the scanty little plate of pasta that was gone in four bites. Lastly, the service was pretty disappointing. We had to sit outside because they were so crowded even on a Thursday night. This would have been fine if they had checked on us a little more frequently; the hostess actually ended up being the one to check on us/refill our water/bring us the check etc. m All in all, we were underwhelmed and can only assume their popularity is largely due to their cute atmosphere and extensive wine/cocktail selection. read more

As much as I try to convince myself that there's no way Overthrow Hospitality can blow my mind with yet ANOTHER concept, there they go again with Soda Club. I loved the tiki bar/restaurant they had at this location and truly, sometimes I feel like they are playing with us, getting us to fall in love with a place and then they close it (RIP goth absinthe bar, you were a fleeting dream). Thankfully, Ladybird remains because I might have to go on an Overthrow strike otherwise (lies. I can't stay away). I am not even a huge pasta lover. If I want to have a date with carbs, it's pizza all the way, yet here I was compelled to overlook the delicious and unique pinsas (Roman style pizza) because the pastas looked utterly irresistible. The atmosphere is that signature Overthrow glamour. Here, there's a hint of art deco and darkness. I am in love with what they do for us. We started with the herbed ricotta which is literally exquisite. Ricotta is one of my favorite things on the planet and may be proof that there's a god (and they are Italian). When a chef gets a non dairy ricotta right, that is just perfectly creamy but not without a little bite in texture and just the tiniest bit of sweetness, oh, it's a dream. Add in the herbs and I'm a mess. The sourdough that came with is also exceptional and the roasted tomatoes provide the perfect acidity. This entire plate is a fucking dream. For my main course, I had the tagliatelle which may have left me speechless. I might have blacked out because I barely remember devouring the entire thing. I love a lemon caper pasta and the broccoli rabe adds a hint of delicious bitterness. Pasta as you'd expect, perfectly al dente. The only real crime committed here was that I was too full for the date cake that I'd been dreaming about ever since I knew they offered it. Besides tiramisu, this is my favorite dessert ever and is rarely vegan. Next time I promise to share both desserts. That's the goal. We got the arancini to start off our meal which was so crunchy! To follow it up, we got the truffle gigli pasta and the ravioli. The truffle gigli was INSANE. I was incredibly surprised by how much I loved the truffle taste. The fried leeks on top added some texture which was an awesome addition. The ravioli was good, but nothing too crazy. These are a great appetizer to share between 2-4 people. The marinara is slightly sweet and very fresh. The arancini are crispy on the outside while still having some texture to the rice on the inside. - bucatini (8/10): thick noodles with spicy arrabiata sauce and focaccia breadcrumbs. These noodles were thick and chewy perfect for the light textured tomato sauce. Arrabiata is known to have a spicy kick and this one did not disappoint. The surprising element was the breadcrumbs which added a hint of crunch and sweetness. - cappelletti (8/10): six pieces of mushroom stuffed pasta in a umami rich broth. This was visually stunning and tasted even better. The mushrooms and truffle are very pungent making this a great dish for mushroom lovers. - gigli (7/10): curly pasta in a light truffle cream sauce with crispy leeks. Out of all the dishes this one was the least wowing. The sauce claimed to be creamy but was more like an olive oil drizzle over the pasta. I liked the sweetness and the crispiness of the leeks to contrast the truffles. - bigoli (9/10): chewy noodles generously coated in a creamy cacio e pepe sauce with pea shoots and pistachios. If you are just getting one pasta dish, get this one. The creamy sauce is decadent while the pepper adds just enough heat to make it not feel heavy. I loved the pistachio for crunch and a different element of butteriness. - tagliatelle (7/10): wide noodles in a lemon nori sauce with broccoli, capers, and celery root. My judgment of this might be skewed because of how full we were after the first four courses. The lemon sauce was bright and acidic with a hint of saltiness from the nori. I would have liked this dish to come earlier in the menu. - cannoli (8/10): two pieces of crispy pastry shells filled with cream and served with a Dulce de leche dipping sauce. This place has been in my list since long. Another gem from Overthrow Hospitality!! Great Italian vegan place. We started with Arancini and glass of rose and cider. A couple of people have mentioned it is spicy but nope - it is not spicy. Great flavor. I just wished there could be some more sauce with it. For main course we ordered Gigli and Ravioli. Gigli is so amazing - given it has so less components but it still tastes great. The fried leek on top is a perfect addition. What a great pasta with so minimal ingredients. Ravioli is MUST have. Period! It is creamy, has the right amount of balance of everything. The ricotta filing is quite fresh. And it has some lemony flavor which brings out such a freshness to the dish. And we ended with much talked about Date cake and OMG what a great way to end the dinner. It is so yum, especially they used a bit of salt in the cake which cuts the over sweetness of this dessert. My friends and I came here after a long day - the lighting was moody and relaxing. There were so many things I wanted to try on the menu but I gravitated towards the truffle pasta - and my god - I'm so glad I did. It was buttery, salty, and truffle-y. We also ordered arancini to split and it was divine - my only wish was that it came with more sauce. I wanted to lick the plate clean, the sauce was that good. The server had great recommendations. We also ordered wine - once again, great service by someone who knows their stuff. The rose was light and crisp! Finally, we split the date cake despite being so full. I'm glad we did - it was very unique. I can't stop raving about the food here. The homemade pasta and pizza are really amazing. Amazing in a way where you close your eyes on the first bite. I believe the pizzas are a relatively new addition to the menu and while they're not classic pizza flavors (ours had figs, onion jam, olives, etc), I don't think you will miss that because the Roman-style crust is incredibly good. It's crackly and crispy, but still doughy and chewy at the same time. The crust is also well seasoned so you wanna eat every last bit, even after the toppings are gone. We also had the bigoli pasta, which was so rich and creamy - I doubt anyone would be able to guess it was vegan. Even the watercress salad was amazing. Ok so I'm not a vegan but I can appreciate the lifestyle. With that said, I booked the Soda Club on a Sunday evening. It was moderately crowded. It's a small restaurant that has the potential to be cozy but it misses just a tad bit. We sat in the back and it was a little claustrophobic vibes back there. It was close to the kitchen and the bathroom. We were given the menu which had a small cocktail menu and a decent wine list. The cuisine is Italian/pasta. We opted for the six course tasting for $75 per person which is really the best deal because you get a bottle of wine of your choosing also. They had a pretty good wine selection and we opted for a white wine. I like that the server allowed us to taste a few wines before settling on a bottle. Then the server brought out each of the 6 pasta dishes. The portion sizes were good for two people given that the pasta is filling. The pastas were all cooked to perfection and tasted freshly made. My favorites of the 6 are probably the Tagliatelle and the Gigli. We also got the Arancini app which was good as well. We got dessert and people in the reviews raved about the Date cake. We tried to get it however we were unable to cut into it. I imagine date cake is probably sticky but this seemed over cooked. We could not cut into the cake at all. The staff offered to trade it for the tiramisu which we did. I wasn't a fan of the tiramisu . The flavor was odd and the lady fingers were very hard. I wish I could have tried the date cake though! An interesting vegan place for dinner. I'm sure the drinks are better, but the pasta options are not good. We weren't aware it was vegan until sitting down, but decided to continue anyway. The pasta was... not good. The price wasn't terrible until we got our portions, and there were tiny. The radiachi was tasteless, with barely any artichoke or mushroom. The gnocchi was more tasteful, but tasted bitter and burnt somehow. The texture of the gnocchi reminded me of something between a hashbrown or a tater tot. The service was also slow, with only three visits to the table over the course of 45 minutes to take our order, give us our food, and bring the check. We actually had to stand up and wave someone down to get our check. The ambiance was okay inside, but we were seated outside despite many tables being open when we arrived and when we left. I assume that was to make the place seem more in-demand. Ultimately, I would not dine here again due to the high prices per portion, lack of quality food, and extremely slow service. read more

I really love this place for how cute and tiny it is, with only bar seating or two person tables. The menu is similar, without a ton of selections but with each offering being of great quality. Service was Good and I particularly loved their wine selection. We started with the Arancini, a must, an I had the fiochetti pasta. The portion was a bit small since I didn't eat all of the mushrooms on top. I also recommend getting a side of their focaccia. I love this place. Great ambiance, delicious food and terrific service. I wasn't sure what to get but Katie recommended delicious wines, ricotta with herbs and tomatoes for appetizer, bucatini and arancini for main and the date pie for dessert. Wow! What a good time. Not a great experience here. Took two hours to get our entrees, the pasta was mediocre, and we found a piece of plastic in the food.

The service was great but the food was horrible. The arancini was the only thing that was decent. The pasta was too sour, the gnocchi had a really terrible texture and the fig "pinsa" was very strange. It had no cheese and olives covered over 70% of the pizza. We were hopeful that the tiramisu was going to be good and it looked gorgeous but it strangely tasted incredibly salty. It was as if the kitchen mixed up salt and sugar. The manager was very nice and offered us another free dessert but at that point, we weren't hungry anymore. read more
