Beyond frustrated with this experience. First, I made an online appointment for my daughter at the nearest office with available openings. The appointment was confirmed, only for me to later receive a phone call saying the office was actually closed. Thankfully, they were able to reschedule us at another location a few miles away later that same day. But while we were driving to the appointment, they called again to say they could see my daughter for a consultation only -- they do not provide treatment for pediatric patients. So now, at 3 PM on a Friday, I'm left scrambling with nowhere to bring my child. Earlier in the day I had multiple options for pediatric dentists, but I chose this office because they appeared to have availability and confirmed the appointment. This is not a reflection of the dentists themselves -- I'm sure the doctors provide excellent care. The problem is the administrative side: scheduling, communication, and basic patient coordination. If an office cannot treat pediatric patients, that should have been identified before confirming the appointment and sending us across town. Instead, we lost an entire day, and now my daughter either sits in pain until Monday or we pay ER prices for dental care that should have been handled properly from the start. The most frustrating part is that they still seemed perfectly willing to charge for the consultation despite knowing they could not actually treat the patient. read more

I went in for a routine cleaning approx 6 months after my last routine cleaning at this company's other office. It's taken me forever to write this review because I just didn't want to have to keep dealing with how horribly I was treated. I asked questions during my xray about the discomfort under my tongue and was told to "deal with it." When the actual dentist came in he IMMEDIATELY began telling me about my extreme gum decay. I was SHOCKED! I've always taken great care of my teeth and kept up with my dental appointments. When I was trying to explain how off guard this information was catching me the dentist told me that if I didn't believe him hi I should just leave. Shocked and appalled I did just that! Terrified, I immediately booked another dental cleaning at a DIFFERENT dentist's office. They were great! I'll save their review for them. A month later the bills started coming. My insurance rejected my new dentist because I'd JUST had a (entirely useless) cleaning. I knew that when I went so I paid for them out of pocket. Almost a year later and after speaking with them on the phone AND returning to the office in person TWICE receiving the run around about who has a say in my bill, I paid them in full for there LACK OF SERVICE to keep them from reporting me to a credit agency. I don't recommend this dentist. They try to charge you for EVERYTHING! They wanted to charge me $165 for a cleaning and they DID charge me $1,685.38 for bone graft to be put where my wisdom teeth extractions were at. I've heard many people don't put bone graft in those areas and heal up just fine. And these prices are crazy because I have insurance that they accept, they just still find ways to charge their customers! read more

Very disappointed in this practice. I went to get evaluated and i didn't catch it that I had a cavity which should have gotten filled or at least let me know what's going on. They got me to do an extraction for $562. I thought after 2 week of pain I would get a temporary or something but all they did was show me a bill for $3200 (my portion) to get a bridge which they didn't fully explain Then they told I need a deep clean and show me a $250 bill for that. I walked out almost twice and in the end I was left with a hole in my mouth (between teeth), no temporary - $562 in the hole and a gap in my mouth...now struggling to find someone to see me when it can take care of it without raping me in price!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I went in to have a filling filed down so I can close and chew my food properly. Sandra Shaker DMD was not capable of performing this simple task. Instead, she referred me to a specialist or other work that needs to get done. Yes, I need my wisdom tooth pulled, but today, I would just like the access resin on this filling filed down so I can close my mouth all the way... was that so complex that she couldn't perform? I saw Dr. Shaker at Coast Dental in Orlando and had an unusually bad experience. I waited for over one hour for my appointment and found out I was booked for the wrong type of appointment. Dr. Shaker did an assessment anyway - She did not have a friendly or approachable bedside manner and didn't introduce herself and I found her interaction with the hygienist borderline disrespectful. I was informed I had to book another type of appointment to have my condition better assessed. I was then charged an 'unspecified adjunctive procedure fee' (which I was informed AFTER the procedure is not covered by my insurance) for some painful filing she did of my tooth/teeth. This was not the reason I made a dental appointment and so it was entirely confusing and mismanaged. Her staff are friendly, but there are evidently some questionable management issues and questions regarding their ethics of practice given the lack of transparency around the nature of the appointment and the subsequent charges. I would not recommend going to this practitioner. read more

Crook alert! I should've learned my lesson the first time I noticed how much they charge. My husband and I happened to have fillings at the same time at our separate dentists. His was more involved than mine but Coast charged our insurance four times the amount of his. In fact, they charged so much that our insurance refused to pay the full amount. This is how they roll...they will exceed WAY over the amount for any service, yet you may not see a bill. I called around to see how much a filling typically costs. The answer is usually "we won't know until you have a full exam and we bill your insurance". Dentists have an easy time getting the most money that they can out of your mouth. Fast forward about a year, and I went in for a cleaning at their insistence. I have two cleanings a year with my coverage. Unfortunately for me, I didn't demand much explanation when they nickel and dime'd me with a mouth rinse I won't use, a whitening kit and a very expensive toothpaste (which you can buy online by the way). I walked out paying $185 and felt violated. I called the manager and he said I had a $234 credit on my account and that would cover it. He would refund me $134. I was like "credit? What...were you guys just going to keep that money?" It turns out my insurance overpaid for that filling when I was there last and they just left the balance in my account. So that allegedly helped pay for my whitening kit and mouthwash and toothpaste. I was moderately satisfied at that point. NOW, a full 8 months later they send me a bill for $71. I guess every time they squirt a little numbing gel (which I don't need anyways) they charge you $15! I looked back and they've tried twice to bill my insurance again for way more than any cleaning should cost. I won't let one more billing nightmare happen here. Coast is still sticking in to me. I went there earlier this summer and my treatment was sketchy. They said I didn't owe any money as it was covered by my insurance. The insurance paid $1,000. Then what comes in the mail today? A bill for $115! They said it was paid up. I went back to the office they said they would resubmit the claim. These people always try to find ways to nickel and dime you to death. What a scam operation. This is my second complaint on the same sketchy treatment. I went to the Coast Dental and Orthodontics office at 4401 S. Orange Ave. Ste. 106 Orlando, FL 32806 for a new patient appointment in order to receive a basic dental cleaning. I had a terrible experience and suspect they are committing fraud at their office. They did not ask for a copy of my insurance card. Their patient screen in front of me back in the patient room with the chair displayed the technician's actions on her computer and displayed other patients' names and services, breaking HIPPA. I was not informed verbally or in my paperwork that I would be seeing a dentist via televisit. While waiting for the video feed, the technician performed a gum disease check, shining a glaring bright light into my eyes and provided no safety goggles or napkin on my chest. She poked my gums with a sharp object that caused my gums to bleed and become inflamed, creating a momentary reaction that she claimed was evidence of gum disease at level 3 and 4. (At 35 years old with perfect teeth and dental history and recent braces, I know I do NOT have gum disease). When the video feed connected to the dentist, the audio did not, so the tech used her personal cell phone to call the dentist and she told him SHE thinks I could benefit from deep cleaning to treat the "gum disease". The dentist agreed and ended the call, without going over my dental history or medical history or looking at any images of my mouth beyond my x-rays, meaning there was no way outside of the tech's word alone, that he could know if I have gum disease or not. That's like a heart surgeon taking the word of a physician's assistant that I need heart surgery, or an attorney agreeing to take a major case without reviewing the files at all!! The tech then handed me a paper to sign showing that I would owe money outside of my insurance for part of the deep cleaning. I stated I did not agree to the deep cleaning and only want basic cleaning. She ignored me and tried to justify the extra money outside of insurance, and I again told her no, I only want basic cleaning. She stated that since the dentist himself thinks I have gum disease she has to obey his recommendation. I point-blank asked, "so you are saying you cannot give me a basic cleaning because your guys want me to have a deep cleaning?" She responded yes and I said, "then I'm leaving". She asked me to sign the paper with all the deep cleaning charges on it, and I said why, and she said just for the X-rays, (I'm nervous I'll be charged for work I didn't have), and as I walked out she asked if I wanted to book another appointment and I said "absolutely not". After I left I received 2 calls from the main office which I ignored and blocked. Then I got a call from a different line at the office which I ignored and blocked. Then another call later from a different line at the office with a voicemail asking me to call them, and I blocked it. Then I got an unidentified call from an Apopka number (all their calls showed up as Apopka) but it said spam and didn't show their actual phone number but I blocked it. I do not see why they would continue calling unless they are concerned about their actions. I firmly believe they think that all their clients on Medicaid must be fools, and they obviously take advantage of their elderly and non-English speaking clients. I resolutely believe they are running a scam and believe they need to be investigated. I know they were pushing this on me in order to bill my insurance more money than just a simple cleaning. Upon further research there are hundreds of other people with the same complaint about them feeling like a scam. I have reported them and written reviews of them to every single site and association I can think of. It makes no logical sense that these reviews are legitimate. None of them mention gum disease and there's no way they aren't pushing that on everyone that walks in the door, if they're willing to do that to me when I have perfect teeth and no disease. read more

HORRIBLE. If I had known, I would not have gone. I just moved to the area and went here because they accept my insurance. It was a mistake. I went to this place to get a broken tooth fixed. The place was dirty. When I arrived, the first thing they wanted to force me to do was the oral cancer test, to which I flat out said no. Its a scam. They get you in take up half of your day only to force you to accept and pay for their cleaning/procedure. I went in for a regular cleaning they wanted to charge me for a deep clean and refused to perform what was asked. What makes more sense having the issue mitigated with a general cleaning until the patient can afford to spend the $800+ for your suggested cleaning. Zero sympathy from the dentist Ms. Elena Oliver. Who according to her own website has a VERY par background with a BA in Nutritional Science at the University of Florida in Gainesville, and her dental degree at the University's College of Dentistry. I guess you get what you pay for, and should have realized that when I had to help articulate her directives to me lol. She sat with me for a few minutes to go over the charts which were rushed and seemed very rehearsed by the other staff. It was no wonder this facility was empty. I feel compelled to write about my experience because others should have fair warning on what to expect when dealing with a BUSINESS like this. I'm 10000% sure you can find a dental hygienist who actually cares enough to sit and speak with you not just smile and let the staged propagandizing proceed. I don't understand the bad reviews. They pick up quickly they give appointments quickly. The staff is nice. I do not like the room set up just feels like they are violating HIPPAA laws. This place is a joke! They over-diagnosed me with services totaling thousands of dollars. They also charged me over DOUBLE my out-of-pocket expense for services rendered, even with insurance, apparently because Mellitza, the head receptionist couldn't figure out what was covered under my popular insurance plan. After confronting her that I was overcharged, she tried to say the fillings I received were more expensive because of some nonsensical excuse, and after speaking with my insurance company, they verified I was overcharged. It is now 39 days after my service and I am still waiting on a refund. Not sure if I'll ever get it, however. I won't even get into the discomfort and pain I had during a filling with Dr. Mercado. I would definitely avoid this place AT ALL COSTS and check out Watson Dental over by Universal! They are amazing and NOT fueled by corporate schemes to make as much money as they can even if it is not in the best interest of the patient, like Coast Dental Waters Edge. I can't speak for other Coast Dental locations, however, Water's Edge has tarnished the Coast Dental name for me. Patient Beware! read more

Shady Office Practices--I have reported them to my insurance company. Alert! I was told my dental insurance was only a discount card. It is a dental HMO and I have verified it. This place told me I will be needing a root canal before checking my tooth that was chipped, they offered in home financing and I wrote them a $300. check. After they told me my insurance was no good, they wanted to take my blood pressure! So they took it. They told me it was high and could not perform on me and to reschedule. I asked for my check back for no services rendered. The bill mgr replied, she had already ran it and cashed it. I just wrote the check 5 minutes ago! (should have knew then) Another week went by and I stupidly came back! I came back after seeing my doctor and advised I was fine and never had high blood pressure. I went back and mentioned being charged for a root canal in the future was ridiculous. They didn't seem to like that. So... They took my BP again said it was high and decided I was not coming back. I called my insurance co and they said they never did a claim and that they were trying to get paid by their finance company and did not want to submit a claim and be paid direct. Good Bye!. Saved me a lot of future issues. Do not go to this place! If you don't have high blood pressure you will after leaving here. One week later I got two crowns from a reputable dentist office, never had a root canal and never had to finance. I am smiling now. I posted a review of the new dentist.
