The man working there was very polite! We only got the Birria tacos but they are the best in town for sure!!! The place could definitely be better & the work things hidden better. Food still smacks though so ‍ Thank you guys

Sundays - walked in at 5 pm, the place was calm and no wait at all. Parking is to the south of the main entrance - stay out of the resident's parking spaces, which are numbered, or you WILL be towed. It's the lot that is next to the train tracks for those of us visting. We arrived as noted above, and were promptly seated. They have tables and booths, we chose a table. There are 4 flat screen TVs on the east wall with various games playing over the bar. They start you off with a complimentary loaf of bread. It's very soft and tastes good. The table has salt, pepper and oil if you like to dip your bread in oil. Adding a little grated mozzarella cheese would work better with the oil. The menu is two sided - the top carries the food, the back carries the wine list. I'd give the wine list a B - it has many varieties, but is light on selections when compared to other high end restaurants. The corkage is very reasonable. There is plenty of light. Hard surfaces mean it can be LOUD when it is busy. My wife ordered their Trio Platter, which came with 2 slices of beef tenderloin, a 4 ounce salmon filet, and three fried shrimp. She chose the rice for her side and a wedge salad. I ordered their Filet Mignon, medium rare, with a baked potato with butter and sour cream. The Wedge Salad was nice - it had large chunks of blue cheese on top. My Caesar Salad had good dressing, but no anchovies. It isn't a Caesar without them. The Trio was large - the salmon was very good - cooked properly and peppered nicely. The rest of her Trio was enjoyable, and it came with a steamed or poached vegetable which was still crisp. The Filet was tender. I had to add salt and pepper - the waitstaff offered steak sauce, and I must have looked aghast at the suggestion. I've never had to use steak sauce at a good char house. The baked potato was slightly underdone. No, I didn't send it back, I just ate it. Service was good. The water glasses stayed full. Once the wine was opened, we had to keep our wine glasses filled.... We finished up with a slice of their cheesecake with raspberry sauce, which was very good. I'd say this is the #2 steakhouse in DeKalb at this point. Read my reviews, you'll know who #1 is. And why.

We started with two cups of cream of chicken rice soup and was surprised that this bakery didn't offer rolls with the soup, so I chose to use the toast from the meal I ordered. It worked perfectly. I will add that soup was served barely lukewarm. Not ideal, but we ate it. Next, we ordered a Tuna Melt with fries and a Lincoln Inn Special. We both agreed the food was good. Our server was very nice. She was attentive and assisted when asked. We also ordered the Strawberry Crepes to go. But we couldn't stop there, lol. While at the register, there were cinnamon rolls and pecan rolls, so we grabbed one of each. We enjoyed those a little later while we waited for our child who was at the camp. Both were delicious! I think it's great how the photos of many years are going across the walls and that they support the local college and their sports. Such a nice touch. There was a gentleman who came over and introduced himself and asked if I knew anyone in the photos. I do not recall his name. He was kind and told me about the photos and about how he created one in particular which was rather impressive.

Ambiance is "steakhouse chic" - nice and dark, not too loud, romantic in a booth. It wasn't too busy when we stopped in late on Sunday and we were greeted and seated in a nice, quiet booth. Two pieces of bread were brought out with a nice salted butter. I went with their 9 ounce Filet Mignon, medium rare, with sautéed spinach, while my wife had their Chicken and Artichoke meal with mixed vegetables. I ordered their Caesar salad with anchovies (you have to ask for them). The Caesar salad was just wonderful, with plenty of salty anchovy goodness present. My wife ordered their chop salad, but they'd run out of that, so she got a house salad instead - and yes, the server did inform us of the switch and made a cost adjustment without being asked. A high point of Ellwood is an above-average wine list. We tried a new cabernet which was good. The wine bottle was opened by the server without it touching the table - nicely done! The steak was cooked properly, and was oh so tender. Very nicely seasoned. The sautéed spinach was perfect - plenty of garlic. My wife thoroughly enjoyed her dish. Dinner was so good, any thoughts of dessert were abandoned. We had wine left over, so they put that in the right sealed bag with a receipt so it could be legally transported. Great service, nice, elegant location, great food.

This has a nice restaurant vibe - nice tables, tablecloths, art on the walls, good lighting, nice, quiet carpeted spaces. There is a lot to like. We made a reservation, were greeted at the door and then promptly seated. Water came out quickly, along with the menus and the wine list. The wine list was a bit light in that all the bottles were typically lower cost. With such a wide variety of food on the menu, it deserves a bit more depth and some better wines to be included. Not that the wines that were included were bad - they were not. They are just at the very low entry end of the market. Picking up a few from Justin, Stag's Leap, and others in the $80 range would help enhance the restaurant's list. We both ordered entrees, which came with the either soup or salad - we both elected to get salads, where I selected a Caesar and my wife had a standard salad. The Caesar had plenty of parmesan cheese and croutons. The dressing was a bit thin - traditional Caesar dressings are cream based, this one seemed to be light on the garlic and anchovies. No anchovies were available, so it's kind of a light "Caesar." The regular salad my wife had was good - she enjoyed it. For the main course, I ordered their Filet Mignon, medium rare with a baked potato. The server asked if I wanted butter and sour cream, which I did and which was provided. The filet is provided in a cabernet reduction. This may have been a bit much, it was hard to taste the filet with the reduction. The filet came with broccoli which was steamed and was nicely done. The baked potato was cooked through (as expected, and worked well with the butter and sour cream. My wife enjoyed her Shrimp and Grits - the shrimp was cooked quite nicely and seasoned well. We were concerned about the meal size, so we skipped an appetizer, and it was a good thing since she took half of her shrimp and grits home. We were not rushed out of our table, and had a good time.

It's clear, and they love chicken. I mean they REALLY love Chicken! First off, they are FAST. They were very busy - almost every table filled and they kept filling after people left. After we placed our order, our chicken (two Baby Bird meals) came out HOT and FRESH within around 7 minutes. With my appetite, the Baby Bird is the right size, and I have a big appetite for their chicken. Service was great as well - our drinks were checked, and the server was very pleasant. My friend ordered the soup flight(only available in the fall) and I chose fried pickle burger. (I know a burger at a chicken place) the soup flight had three cups of the soups of the day and a four cup of the brisket chili. It also came with a grilled cheese sandwich. Plenty of food! My deep fried pickle burger was a thick patty, crunchy onions and 2 thick deep fried pickle chips with a dill sauce on top. The burger was juicy and the toppings were delicious with a little crunch. The Dirty Chicken will be a stopping point on my return trip to Sycamore!
