I won a (VERY generous!) platter of Pollo Asado and decided to add more to our family order. My daughter attends NIU and it's a quick drive from campus. The fact that it's an hour from where I live is better for my pocketbook, because we would go EVERY WEEK if we lived closer. We were served our platter and extra items we ordered with smiles. The food was INCREDIBLE, with some spiciness, but not at burn-your-face-off levels. My daughter's Al pastor trompo was outstanding, and that'll be my order next time. WOW! Seriously, I am a huge taco lover, and I'm very picky. Not many places have actually good tacos. the meat is either so so or the tortilla is soggy, or both! But NOT this place. BEST tacos, seriously! The service is amazing too! The owner cares so much about her customers and the staff is incredibly sweet! I found them at the Dekalb farmers market and I've been a regular customer. Funny, I have a taco place across the street and I still drive the 15 minutes to them, that's how good they are! And the winner is..... If you live in or around the town of Cortland you may be familiar with the Arts & Crafts fair at the beginning of the summer, or in May. Each year several contestants enter the best taco contest, and Tinez Tacos was the winner for 2022. Tinez Tacos is actually a food truck and you can find them in Cortland every Tuesday parked at the Dollar General on Somonauk just off Rt 38. Unfortunately I wasn't able to get a Tinez Taco at the festival so today (Tuesday) I stopped by their food truck to get some burritos. The burritos are $9 each and are pretty big. You can pick your choice of meat from steak, chicken, pork, and more....so I got the steak. Inside the burrito is the meat, beans, some cheese lettuce, tomatoes, and maybe a couple other ingredients. My heart really wants to give them 5 stars as it's a good burrito, but I have had much better burritos. Here's a couple things I think they can improve. To start, $9 is an expensive burrito. I realize with inflation in 2022 ingredients must not be cheap and they may have raised prices so they can make some money. I've actually had better burritos that were less than $9, so I'm basing the price on that. I've also been to some restaurants that charge more than $9 for a burrito, but that probably comes with chips and salsa. I like steak, but I kept getting chunks of thick, chewy cartilage and had to spit it out. I personally don't like eating cartilage and not sure if anyone else does, but that is probably my biggest reason for 4 stars instead of 5. If the quality of the steak and burrito was better I'd probably give 5 stars. Anyway, I like to support the local community and I hope that Tinez stays in business and continues to grow and improve their food items. read more

Came here with my pops and he was impressed! I really enjoyed this place when it was out of the taco truck but the specials are really good priced! After making the trek to Aurora, Illinois (not just a place, but a state of mind) we found ourselves fairly hungry & planned to hit up the food court at the outlet mall. Much to our surprise, we spotted the red food truck/trailer and opted to give it a shot, and we were glad we did! We ordered chicken & steak tacos with onions and cilantro, and the mild (verde) sauce. Both were very tasty, and hit the spot. It might have been cold & rainy out, but the tacos warmed us up. We inhaled them. I've always been intrigued by "walking tacos" so I might have to give them a try on the next visit. It might be a challenge to not order a steak taco...but I can always get one on the side. A delicious dilemma indeed. I recommend Tinez Tacos to any fans of tacos/Mexican food, or to anyone in need of a quick bite before (or after) seeking retail goods at low, low prices. Thumbs up, I'm a fan! read more

Let's be honest, there's not much difference between taco places, so the real stars here are the daily specials. The stuffed peppers, enchiladas and tinga tostadas are my favorites. I can honestly say that these are the best stuffed peppers I've ever had! I don't know what region of Mexico stuffs peppers with this blend of chicken, apple bits and raisins but it's a tasty recipe. The daily specials cost around $7 with a side of rice, beans, and extra tortillas. The menu is the right size for variety without being overwhelming. The tacos have a few meat options and Mexican style or American. There are a couple growing pains: the staff seem a bit lazy when the owner isn't around. One woman had her feet up watching TV and didn't even bother to stand to tell me the owner would be back in a few minutes. Then there's that haphazard schedule. There's nothing more disappointing than arriving with a hungry belly to find that the restaurant closed early. I was happy to find a new place -- other than gas stations -- on the East side for quick food. Finding that the food is delicious was a real bonus. read more

So - I don't like chile rellanos. I've tried them countless times at a variety of places. Today - I was really hungry, logged on to Tinez Tacos and saw their special for the day was chile rellanos. What the heck. I tried it. And I loved it. I will definitely order these again. A pepper with actual heat. Not a mushy bit of green. Stuffed with chicken. And raisins I think?! So delicious. My husband and I are addicted to Tinez Tacos. We visit them during every Farmers' Market and we hope to find out where they're going for the winter. We'll follow them anywhere! The steak is the best, and I usually get a steak quesadilla. My husband gets something different every time, but I'm a steak quesadilla girl.
