I just do not get the fact that if you say I don't want cheese on something but instead I want sour cream they charge you extra I had an order of chile rellenos that came with bean salad and rice very good I also had a taco de tripas it was made to perfection because I said make it crispy it was done so churchy. We always end up paying for food that arrives half missing or mixed up (No clue if it's the restaurant or delivery driver). RUDE AND DISRESPECTFUL AFTER GETTING MY ORDER WRONG! I ordered a steak burrito, steak cheese beans and rice only, I told the order taker 3 TIMES no lettuce and she informed me it does not come with lettuce which was good to hear. I get my food home and it is filled with lettuce. I called and was very respectful because I'm someone who understands aggression and anger gets you nowhere in life even if you have been done wrong. The owner told me very rudely you will have to pay again because the lady who took my order didn't say no lettuce. I tried to dispute the claims and he hung up in my face. I drove back up there with the food (which I did NOT take a single bite of) and the owner aggressively told me it was my fault and tried to reach for the bag saying do you want another. I said no I want my money back because you hung up in my face. He says fine you can have it back while still telling me it was my fault sayin the burrito comes with lettuce you didn't say no lettuce. I looked at the lady and said did I not tell you no lettuce??? She says while he standing there "I told you it doesn't come with lettuce". I look at him and said she just said it doesn't even come with lettuce, you are lying. He looks stunned because he was caught in his lie then literally SNATCHED the bag out of my hand and stormed to the back, opened the burrito and looked at it I assume to make sure I didn't eat any of it. Ordered some tacos dorados and got Ortega taco shells. Chicken was alright, taco al pastor was not good. Had some steak tacos as well in which the tortillas were hard not steamed in a sense. I was a bit reluctant to take some clients here based on the reviews but I found the food and service to be excellent. They brought out some chips and two types of homemade salsa along with some spicy pickled vegetables and took our drink order. The salsa were both very good with one being milder and the other having a rich, spicy, smoky flavor. The pickled carrots and jalapenos were outstanding, plenty of heat and a nice herby/vinegary flavor. For my lunch order I had one al pastor, one barbacao and one fried fish taco. All three were served on double corn tortillas and were dressed with minced cilantro and onion. The barbacao and pastor were fantastic, the barbacao had plenty of slow cooked filling that was thick and rich while the pastor was slightly crispy with a complex flavor, just how they should be. The price for each of our lunch meals on their website was $6.49; however, when we got there to pick it up, the price they charged for each meal was $8.83. No correction. No apology. It's good if you order it drunk or for delivery so you can fix the flavor! I ordered the Sopa de Mariscos and that was overly salty, yuck! I added water at home and put some limes in there and it was much better. I ate it with the corn tortillas stuffed with beans and rice and it was yum the next day. If I had been there I would have poured the ice water in the soup. Next, the ceviche tostada was GROSS, I want my money back! I loved the shrimp tostada. Honestly this place only survives because of it's location right next to all the NIU greek houses and partly apartments. It's always packed late an night with drunk hungry college kids, but I was at NIU for 4 years and never knew anyone who would eat there sober. My first time here was just a few days ago. My parents raved how it was better than Taco Bell and just as good as every Mexican restaurant in town. Yet, the food was not worth the money. While I'll give them kudos for big portions, that's about all I enjoyed because I took the rest home for my dad's lunch the next day. The quesadilla was way more greasy than I'm used to eating. In fact, it was a struggle finishing just one portion of the quesadilla. The chips had a bit of grease but not as bad, but this place doesn't even have a real cheese dip. Sadly like any other place, people never seem to voice when they have a good experience, but if they aren't quite satisfied they are very anxious to voice a negative opinion.. so I decided to jump on here today to give my take on local food / entertainment / etc... I have been living on and off in Dekalb my entire life.. I'm what they often call a "townie of dekalb"... I have been to Burritoville more times then I will ever recall.. I even have a record of the most taco's ever ate in a single sitting there (which is 36 btw)... Burrivoville is by far my favorite place to get authentic Mexican food. Rudy (owner) has devoted much energy to keeping the quality up product up. The one down side to this place for me is service.. especially on the delivery side if you don't speak Spanish... I've had multiple issues with delivery, but never dissatisfied with a visit in person. LOVE Burritoville.. in fact, I'm about to order food from them now just, just thinking about it makes me crave it! read more
