We stopped for lunch this past weekend. We were greeted immediately treated very well service was excellent and the staff is very friendly. The place is very clean and beautifully decorated. The quesadillas were amazing the complimentary chips and delicious slasa were a geat bonus we were starving. The beer was cold and we were in and out in a timely manner... What a find! We arrived at 5:45 and got one of the last available tables. Service is great with chips and an authentic salsa presented with water before the menus. Cocktails were sublimely balanced as we ordered a margarita and a tequila aperol spritz. Loved them both. Appetizer of grilled octopus with fava bean purée was delicious and beautifully plated with pepper oil, sliced hot jalapeños and finely cut radishes. Our entrees were piping hot and well prepared. My enchiladas suizas were excellent and happily accompanied by black beans and rice. Husband's grilled meats with nopales, halloumi (or similar), and tortillas were contained in an extremely hot vessel of a lava like substance. A stunning presentation that was better suited to sharing. Happily, we've brought half home to enjoy tomorrow. read more

Terrible food / ripoff prices! -------- So my friends and I had been scoping out this place for the last week, excited to try out a new place with what was being touted as "authentic" Mexican food... hello... So we show up today around 2 yesterday, February 27, to try to beat the crowd. One of my buddies said he had an issue with a perfume-y smell the other two of us didn't notice, so we got a quick overpriced drink while waiting for our orders to be made to take out. I had already eyed the menu online and was prepared to pay the asinine prices for what I wanted, given I was really looking forward to the octopus appetizer at $25 and the nopales salad, especially since you can't even buy cactus paddles up here. ****Finally, onto the cr*p we actually got (Split order between two of us and third friend paid his): 1) The $25 valued appetizer dish was five sad small bits of octopus-- which they do sell at price chopper, that I can cook better, at home. One package of octopus from them for $10 is at least twice this restaurant's sad portion. The only thing that made "Sofia's" octopus palatable was the butter. They also put jalapeños in with them, which somehow managed to also have no heat or taste like anything, let alone jalapeño! **When you manage to take a food item and make it not taste like the item it actually is-- a *special* hats off to you‍! 2) As for the nopales salad: They were pickled instead of fresh (weird!), for no sensible reason 3) The guacamole the third of our party ordered had no seasoning or flavor other than plain avocado 4) My friend's enchilada somehow managed to taste like raw flour 5) My other friend's burrito was somehow cut as if it was a sandwich‍, because why not **If we had stayed for a sitdown meal I.e. tried it before paying, I would have sent EVERYTHING back. Which I have never done before in my life. It was that terrible. I actually called them back and got the guy I believe is the owner. He didn't care one iota. Amazing Mexican food! Sofia's restaurant serves really good and fresh Mexican food that doesn't sit heavy after the meal. The restaurant is cute and open. There's complimentary chips and salsa which was great to start. The tacos were delicious--the carnitas melted in my mouth and the birria taco was so flavorful. We also enjoyed the enchiladas a lot as well. They have a fantastic housemade hot sauce and the chipotle hot sauce is so smokey too. Their margaritas were so good and sweet, we both got the strawberry one with a sugar rim. And definitely don't miss the churros! They were incredible and a great sweet treat to end the night! Food and service was very good n I would go back. It was very busy for a Monday night so we waited about 40 minutes. We called n they do not take reservations. We did not have alcoholic beverages, however they tend to be over priced. Our party of 4, 3 of us had the chicken fajita's and one had the chicken burrito. Very good food and we were satisfied with food n service. Portions are filling. Highly recommend you try this establishment. read more

Welcome to the newest restaurant in Saranac Lake, NY. Sofia's has elevated Mexican food that is not found in the ADK until now. Their P & P ( Prep and presentation ) is worthy of CIA graduates! Flavor profiles were spot on with multi-flavored sauces. Each course that came to us was meticulously presented with balance, and proportioned correctly. Our Grilled octopus was moist and delicious. Our Nopal shrimp salad was a treat with sumptuous cactus and was a citrus flavor bomb. The Carnitas quesadillas were amazing along with a Mahi Mahi Taco, and who can't order Tres Leche if its on the menu??OMG so good... Staff are friendly, attentive, and willing to please. The property has a minimalism Mexican vibe, clean, great Tequila selection. We had lunch but are really looking forward to a dinner if we can get reservations. This is where you need to go if you're in our small town. Authentic food with more flare and flavor than I've had in a very long time. The previous very popular Mexican restaurant in town couldn't touch this place! The margaritas at Sophia's are traditional, made with lime juice. Sip slowly and enjoy the incredible flavor. Each dish the four of us ordered plus our appetizer completely impressed us in presentation, temperature and taste. My son's meal was served in a real volcanic rock bowl that looked amazing. There was enough food in his meal for the entire table. Each of us had more than we could eat and the flavors had us raving the entire meal! The staff was incredible...friendly, attentive and ready to assist. The manager walked the floor constantly looking thoroughly at each table. That in itself, was impressive. The bar is beautiful and although I didn't sit there, I plan to in the future. Great place to relax with a delicious flavored margarita, which they also serve. They noticed that it was the birthday of one of our group and surprised her with a gorgeous and delicious big piece of dulce de leche cake! Although the location is small, it has a good number of tables. I do see it becoming very busy as it gains popularity. Honestly, I cannot recommend Sophia's more! They were out of a lot of ingredients which is a pretty good sign. Food was still really good. Molcajete was bigger than I expected. The chicken was tender and the steak was smoky. The birria burrito was good. Mixed with the molcajete sauce it's a chef's kiss. The staff were working nonstop. A little disorganized but they got us the food we wanted. The restaurant was really crowded ,another good sign.It took a bit to get a table but it was crowded though. It was cozy and warm and busy. What a great experience we had at Sophias's! The food was excellent. My table had the tempura shrimp tacos - great. Chicken burrito and a chicken quesadilla - also great. We also had the chicken nachos and they would be an excellent meal. Pricing is not cheap, but not terrible. I'd say it's worth the excellent menu and food. But the BEST thing about this little spot is the vibe. The service was fantastic. EVERYONE who worked there checked in with us and brought drinks, sides etc. It's a team effort and it shows. The dining room is clean and beautifully decorated. The food was amazing, I had chicken enchiladas and my boyfriend had nachos. We came in around 1:30 pm and the food came out in 10 minutes! The servers checked on us just the right amount of times. I will definitely be coming back. read more

We've been excited to try this place because we've only heard good things and it did not disappoint. Drinks were fabulous. Staff was friendly. They have made the space really nice. It was a dark hole before. They've made it seem light and airy with lovely paintings on the walls. We loved all the food from the guac through our entrees. Two of us had the fish special, two had the beef special, one burrito and one plate of tacos. Look forward to going back! read more

Margarita was very good. Food was excellent. Ambience is lacking because of location and space is small. Staff very accommodating.

The black beans and rice were served COLD not just one but three orders. Our fajitas were swimming in oil. Obviously they didn't know the Strait of Hormuz is closed based on the amount of oil used to cook them. On a good note the fajitas weren't cold. However the staff was cold enough that they had to wear their winter parkas. Very disappointed. read more
