We came here for a late weekend lunch and had a great experience. Service was friendly and speedy, from us getting seated to having our orders taken to getting our food to getting the check. I got the shrimp fajitas lunch special and it was delicious and the perfectly sized portion for lunch. It was cooked perfectly in a delicious sauce and came with fajita veggies, refried beans, rice, and salad. We were also given free chips and salsa for the table upon sitting down. Visiting here this week and decided to try this restaurant. It was wonderful. I had plate of 3 tacos and they were so large and delicious. I've eaten out here many times before and had no complaints. I had a horrible experience eating there last evening. The server seemed like she was in training which isn't a problem. However, it's not clear how well her English is. Most of the servers are bilingual. My husband is as well and previous times he would place our orders in Spanish. Last evening I was with a friend, neither of us speak Spanish. - it was difficult to communicate our orders and our questions to our wait staff - the food wasn't brought to our table for at least 40 min. - my friends meal was uneditable as well as mine. I ordered one of the steak options. I was unable to cut it with a steak knife let alone chew it. I was starving so I did eat the rice, runny refried beans and lettuce. They took my friends meal off of the bill and compensated some of mine. Very disappointing experience compared to all of my previous experiences with this place. read more

Waiting, waiting, waiting. Water refills take a life time. Don't even bother with asking, you'll get better service by doing it yourself. Biriaa tacos suck. Salsa sucks, chips suck, and as you know, the service sucks too. You walk into the restaurant, it looks pretty nice to your left, but the waiter will always take you the other way. Funny story. We were crossing the border and the agent is the one who suggested this restaurant! We were talking about our plans for the day and we had no idea where to go for dinner and he instantly thought of this place. I am so glad he did. We were a big group (11) and this place had no issues seating us last minute. The menu has so many options and everything looks good. The service is very fast and friendly. I got the Mexican street corn as an entree and it could've well been a meal! It was such a generous portion. It was delicious, warm and seasoned and tangy. The star of the show was the birria tacos, they were excellent. Generously stuffed and flavourful with cheese and meat in every bite. Birras tacos meat is tender and heavy portion of meat in the tacos. Corn tortillas grilled perfect. Fresh onion and lime on the side. Sorry didn't try the dipping sauce due to dietary restrictions. If you really like Mexican food, you might be disappointed. Ordered street corn, birria tacos, and chicken fajitas. The street corn was not the typical boiled cob, they may have even fried it. It was not fresh, so it was a bit mushy and I couldn't taste the corn itself. Just loaded with sauces on top. The birria tacos had a good portion of meat, but the shells were not grilled enough and became soggy quickly. The chicken fajitas did not have much flavor and the cooked tomatoes released a lot of water onto the plate. It came out faster than I've ever seen, which is great, but I would have preferred to wait 5-10 minutes longer for fresh food. Casa Real has so much potential, I just don't know if they are equipped to serve fresh food on a busy night. read more

The waitperson was awesome and very accommodating (like they had heard it before) when I said my dish was less than appetizing. My enchiladas only had dry chicken inside with a drizzle of cheese on top. The spanish rice was good. After we sent my dish back to the kitchen and I ordered a beef taco salad the fried tortilla shell was small and over-cooked. The shell was filled mostly with ground beef and tasteless. Casa Real is, without a doubt, my favorite Mexican restaurant. My boyfriend and I have been probably a dozen times and brought friends and family. We are always promptly seated (I saw another reviewer complain that they were seated at a table when there was a booth free: fun fact, you can just ask for a booth and they'll give it to you!) The menu is massive and everything I've tried has been AMAZING. The portions are HUGE and the prices are the most affordable I've seen in Vermont. They also give you two delicious, complimentary baskets of chips and salsa to start. Casa real is open till 10:00pm, much later than most other restaurants in the area. We ordered the fresh guac, but it came to us (not table-side, as advertised), but handed to us after our entrees already came. We ordered horchata - never received it, but we were charged for it. This was our second time at Casa Real. It's exciting to have another Mexican restaurant in the area, although it doesn't serve as authentic or true Mexican (to us). The waitstaff is abundant and friendly, but not super attentive. They're mostly around in the beginning to get your order(s) and then there to serve the food or provide the bill. If you know you'll want water and napkins ask at the beginning because they won't offer. Alcoholic beverages are decently priced, but wouldn't recommend the pina colada. Margarita and mojito were better. The first time we got the birria tacos (delish) and the chicken chimichanga (mediocre, bland). This time around we got the Yolanda's Enchiladas (chicken enchiladas) with both green and red sauces, and the Molcajete. Both were good. Each time the service has been pretty quick, the drinks come out very quickly followed by the meal. I'd definitely go back, again, but not necessarily a "YOU HAVE TO TRY THIS PLACE!" "Take-Out" of Tacos was disappointing at best. At Casa Real restaurant, First of all, "Take-Out " of Tacos means that the customer assembles the tacos !!!! In all honesty, l would have had better tacos had l assembled them from home from a kit you buy at the local grocery store. Secondly, the tacos did not taste Mexican , the seasoning was "lacking", as we enjoyed Mexican Tacos in California when we lived there. Thirdly, the sour cream allowance was minimal. I ordered takeout online with the "foodbooking" link that comes up when you Google this restaurant. Food was ready at my requested time and handoff was friendly. We tried 3 al pastor tacos plus the dinner special, which includes 1 chalupa, 1 chile relleno, 1 beef taco, 1 enchilada, and 1 beef burrito, plus rice and beans. The al pastor was flavorful and included grilled pineapple - yum. The dinner special was portioned generously and was a great way to try several items, although I would have liked the options for meats other than beef. We also got guacamole as an appetizer - excellent. Super fresh with chunks of tomato and onion. Spice level on everything was what you'd expect for Vermont, but it's nothing you can't improve with hot sauce. I arrived for pickup at 4:00 on a Saturday and the parking lot was packed. Lobby was full of parties waiting to be seated. Really excited to sample more items from their extensive menu. So happy to have a real Mexican place in the area! read more
