This is just diner food, but it is very affordable - the portions are large - the food comes quickly and is hot. I brought a large group here several times last month and they never complained, always served us promptly and the food was of consistent quality. I've only eaten breakfast here but can recommend it. Raw Chorizo: This place is good but not all the time. The chef must be Lazy but the other staff is great. Ordered a chorizo burrito this morning and the pork was raw. Unacceptable. Hope I don't get food poisoning like this place has given me before. Cold food as if the kitchen didn't have proper warmers working. Once I got a chili rellenos burrito and all it was was the chili wrapped in a tortilla. Poorly at that. The chef has no pride. Quality is vastly inconsistent. I'm considering purchasing the building and cancelling their lease and installing Mi Jacilito in their place. That family takes pride in their work. This place has a great selection of New Mexican food... Super good green chili dishes. You can put that stuff on just about everything! When they are crowded during lunch the service is a bit slow, so plan on about an hour lunch. Other than that the service is really nice and the food is good. Also, ask for sopaipillas... They usually sell out early so get there first to eat them. I really like their green chili chicken enchilada casserole and the green chili cheeseburger. They also have really good breakfast burritos, but ask them to use real eggs, they don't charge more for it and it makes all the difference. I've never tried the bbq, but it's always sold out so it must be good. I would recommend Sofia's for a casual dinner/breakfast/lunch. but go for dinner or breakfast instead of lunch because you will be able to beat the crowd. read more

The only remedy for a hangover is time, water, and food. I guess more alcohol can be the cure too, but eventually that medicine wears off and you're back to ground zero. So I decided to pursue the first option and started chugging water as soon as I got up. Then my cousin was nice enough to pick me up a breakfast burrito from Burrito Thyme. That morning he was in the same hangover boat as me and spoke highly of the healing powers of these breakfast burritos. After eating the burrito and chugging water, I had done everything except make time pass more quickly. I was still on the clock and probably had a few more hours until I could go back to feeling normal again. To try and expedite the hangover process I decided to go on a run to sweat all the toxins out. When I got back I was feeling a little better, but was exhausted. So I took a nap and when I woke I was feeling like my normal self again! The only problem with my normal self is that he likes to drink and has a short memory. I ended up making myself a vodka soda later that day and started the whole process again. At least I know that breakfast burritos from Burrito Thyme will help me for my next hangover. read more

I've had a hard time writing a review here because I really wish I could review Sofia's and Burrito Tyme separately. What's the difference? Burrito Tyme is a takeout window focusing on cheap burritos while Sofia's is a full service restaurant. They share a kitchen and there's a bit of overlap in what they sell, but they feel like very different businesses. Let's talk about Burrito Tyme​ first. It's a favorite of college students and there's a food reason why. Burritos are around $4, come out fast, and are very good. You can also ask for just about anything you can think of in a burrito and they'll do it - and they do breakfast burritos and lunch burritos all day. There's also frito pie, chile cheese fries, and burgers for takeout, as well as bottled sodas. Overall, Burrito Tyme is a great deal. You can get a real good burrito for cheap and in a hurry, and I even like the burgers. The next door over is Sofia's, the full service restaurant side of the business. Sofia's is a pretty typical New Mexican restaurant with neat murals decorating the walls. The food is pretty good and comes in generous portions, but overall I'm a bit ho-hum on Sofia's. There's better New Mexican, but perhaps not in Socorro, so feel free to grab lunch or dinner here. The service can be a bit variable but I've never felt it was particularly bad. read more

But as far as service goes they have a lot to learn was there in the evening and again if we didn't ask for a waiter or get up and look for one we didn't get what we needed. This is without a doubt my favorite place to eat in Socorro. They give you free sopapillas with your meal. Although it should be noted that twice a day they make two huge batches of sopapillas and if they run out-they run out (personally I think that just tells you how good they are). While I have had many items from Sofia's there are only two that really have a home in my heart. The Flat Enchilada and the Enchilada Casserole. With either meal I get chicken and with the Flat Enchilada I add an over-easy fried egg. It should be noted for any new customer that the Enchilada Casserole does not look pretty, it comes out looking like mush, but it is delicious. Also the Enchilada Casserole is generally easier to eat for anyone who doesn't really like spicy food. As for the green and red sauces, they both are great. Personally I find the green way better, but more of a personal preference and not a knock on Sofia's. I always get the green sauce or a combination of red and green. Stopped and had the ham and cheese omelette for breakfast this morning. It was every bit as good as the picture looks. It made me definitely want to come back again. Unfortunately I did. When the waitress brought our food out in the afternoon the only thing that was hot was the plate. All of my food and my friends food was cold. We had to have the waitress take it back to the kitchen and have it reheated and it was obvious that it was done in a microwave. The texture to my chicken enchilada casserole plate was that of a bad batch of oatmeal. it didn't taste good and pretty much everything on the plate followed the same pattern. The waitress wasn't familiar with certain items on the menu, and the woman who was familiar with the items was not very patient with our naivete of New Mexican cuisine! There is a fair number of acceptable food joints off the strip in Socorro. The strip being California Street. Although there are a couple decent places on the strip. Went to Sofia's Burrito Tyme for lunch. I'm not sure exactly what Socorro style Mexican is but if Sofia's is it, I get it. There is a heavy emphasis on the locally grown chiles in the form of both green chile and red chile sauce. The problem is, nobody can really tell you which one is better or which one is hotter. You're own your own with that one cowboy. It's been over a month. I don't recall exactly what it was that I had but I liked it. I would return if I were ever in the area again.
