If you are looking for an authentic taqueria.... you're better off at Taco Bell! lol We ordered some nachos and guac which were okay. The plate of nachos was fairly small, a small appetizer for 2 people. I ordered a strawberry mint mojito and it had a really nice fresh flavor and not too boozy. The reason I will probably not return is the service. When we sat down the server came by immediately and asked for our drink order before we had a chance to look at the menu. Then she came back a few minutes later and I wanted to put in an order but before I could get a word out she was like "oh I can only take your full order now, the rule is that you have to put in your entire food order at once" I've been to plenty of restaurants and that's the first time I've heard of any rule like that! The. We once we got our apps the waitress came back when we were half finished and was like oh do you need a box. I was speechless! Maybe she really wanted her shift to be over, not sure. My wife and I have been here twice now both times have been incredible. They have excellent service and seat in a fair amount of time considering how busy this establishment constantly is. I have had the brown mole with chicken on my first visit and it was excellent during my second visit I decided to try the birria tacos that where on the menu and they where easily the best birria tacos I have ever had north of the boarder! First time at Sofias and I have to say there is a very fun ambiance especially with the decor and neon lights. The food is quite good too. The Al Pastor tacos were very flavorful and definitely up there for me. Both salsas were really good as well and the beef empanadas were very full which is a huge plus for me. Big expectation and low outcomes, unfortunately The place is eye catching on the outside and inside, with the demographics of the staff you're hopeful the food will be good if not great! Food menu is decent since it has "Birria" tacos on it and the traditional Mexican style of taco and burrito meats. Al pastor, carnitas, carne asada ect... Ordered some modelos with lime and I had to ask a second time for a lime. Having friends that had been here before mentioned they had a tequila menu. Being Mexican I love tequila, so I asked for a menu. However the waitress never mentioned a tequila menu, so I had to ask for one it should be an IMPLIED TASK for all servers when giving menus out. Asked for a tequila, she came back and asked me blanco or resposado, I said resposado CLEARLY and she literally said blanco to my face like as if she wasn't listening to what was coming out of my mouth. I'm Mexican so I can drink either without an issue so I just took it as is. I knew at this point, the night was going to be suspenseful. Most of the tequilas are super over priced , which is understandable since this place is decently new. But bro a shot of claze azul is definitely not 89 dollars I've paid 35 for a double of clase azul at stake houses before this is such a mark up! The queso fondido was absolutely trash, if your going to advertise "chori-queso" chorizo and queso mixed together Atleast use the right cheese, aka queso blanco and refried beans and chorizo. The staff literally just grabbed cheese sticks and chorizo already cooked and threw it on a hot skillet until melted and added chunks of tomato with no beans whatsoever. The menu had beans on it!!! My quesofondido was harder then a rock after being out on a table after 3 minutes. (That's the price you pay when you use the wrong cheese) The broth for the birria tacos was a skimpy portion. Like half the size of the container served in , atleast 3/4 it like "ya wey por favor " As a Mexican I appreciate the effort to make our culture alive and vibrant but disappointed in the staff above all else and whoever allows these plates to be served. We arrived to find a brightly painted building, very eye catching. The staff promptly and courteously greeted us and sat us. The wait staff greeted us and provided chips and salsa while we checked out the menu. We then ordered our drinks and received them within a few minutes. They were very good. We ordered an appetizer and our dinners. The app, guacamole, came out within a few minutes, it was very enjoyable. Our entrees came out in an appropriate amount of time as we had just finished our app. The entrees were also very good, but we all felt that the proteins were under seasoned, but still enjoyable. Dessert was also very good. The restaurant was decorated in a very pleasing Tex/Mex fashion and my wife told me that the rest room was very clean. The experience was pretty terrible. We got greeted by the host and then once we got sat down, we never got introduced to wait staff. We were only given chips and salsa and no one came to take our order. We told the worker that gave us chips that we were ready to order and he didn't acknowledge it and walked away. Called ahead to see if there would be a wait and not only would they not tell me how long the wait is they won't even tell you IF there is a wait. So we get there and it's immediately a 30-35 minute wait. How do you expect people with children to go to this establishment when you cannot even give info regarding getting seated? My husband and I came here yesterday to try this new spot in our town. We had an ok experience. The parking lot was full and it was only 4pm so maybe they were having a busy day but as soon as we walked in the atmosphere was kind of chaotic. As you walk in there is a hostess desk to your right and a hostess desk to your left. We walked up to the one on the right and the two ladies there completely ignored us, didn't even look up at us over their computer. So after a few awkward and silent minutes we turned to the hostess desk on the left and asked who we should speak to about a table and the hostess said it was her. One desk is for take-out and one is for dinning in. Very confusing, there should be signs that say that. After that, we ordered a variety of tacos and empanadas and to be honest we didn't love most of it. We did really really enjoy the fish tacos and shrimp and corn empanadas and thats why they get 3 stars but still not sure if we will return. The food is good. The place is nice and cozy. But they could definitely improve couple of things. The kids food was aweful. We ordered a chicken taco and all we got was taco and chicken. No toppings. It's was so dry. When we asked for cheese and sour cream for the kids food which they couldn't have given us any more than a tablespoon and they charged us for it. The service was good. We went on a Friday night and it was about a 45 minute wait. Parking was tight but people were constantly coming and going so we got a spot in about 5 minutes. Service was excellent and we enjoyed the food. I had the regular margarita and enjoyed it. My wife got the mango or something one and had to send it back because it was too sweet. Food came fast considering how crowded it was. I had the chicken quesadilla and my daughter had tacos. We both loved our food. My wife got the nachos and thought they were only average. My wife and I went last night. We had a reservation which I'm grateful for because the place was packed! Seems like they're doing well out of the gate. First of all, I just want to say the service was outstanding. From being seated quickly even though we showed up early for our reservation, to the attentiveness throughout our meal. We had people refill our chips and salsa and water multiple times despite them being really busy. And there were multiple people helping which is a sign of good teamwork and service. It's almost worth the trip alone for that. The decor was really great too from how the outside of the building was decorated to the inside. Very vibrant. As far as food, we ordered one of the special guacs with corn and chicken flautas as our apps. Both had really good flavor, but I wish the guacamole had a little bit more corn in it. Still good. For drinks, I had the pineapple margarita and my wife had the alcoholic strawberry-lemonade. We thought both were really good. Entrees we both had blackened chicken fajitas. I thought the flavor was good but I would have liked a little more blackened or Cajun flavor. When I get blackened food, that's typically what I'm looking for. Overall we had a great meal and would be back. Only thing I really had to take a point off for here was the price point. I'm not opposed to paying for a decent meal which this was, but we came out spending a decent amount more than what we would spend in other places in the area for a similar meal. If you're complaining about price and portion size, not sure what your expectation is? How much do you want to eat? Portions were perfect. Food was good. Great atmosphere. Only issue is they like most restaurants they are charging a service charge and the suggested tip started at 20 percent after the tax is added. I ask about using a debit card which in most restaurants will remove the service charge but the waitress said credit or debit didn't matter they still were charging me a $16 service charge. I had to run out to an ATM since they don't have one on site Conclusion - if you go there and you don't want to pay a service charge bring cash with you. read more
