I found this place from a viral TikTok and I made an appointment immediately., I had to make my appointment two months ahead of time because they are so backed up on bookings but it was worth the wait. They do a $50 haircut which includes a wash which is an amazing price. The haircut was basic, but that's all I needed! The stylists signature was face framing layers so I took off a few inches of split ends and went with her suggested face framing layers. I was really happy with the result! Selfishly, I hope they don't raise their prices too much after becoming so busy. WOW. Please $50 for a haircut in LA is crazy! I heard about Ayumi on TikTok and everyone's hair looked amazing. I had to go in and see if it was true. She also does wash (she gave me a whole head massage too) AND blow dry!! Literally all for $50 doesn't matter the length of hair?! My hair is long! I honestly was ready to cut my hair short (for me) this time. And I'm so glad ayumi did my hair. I showed her some pictures and videos and she gave me exactly what I was looking for. I didn't want layers because it makes my hair look thin. She gave me style and thickness with my cut and honestly it's not TOO short it's literally perfect. She also puts in a lot of detail and work into her hair cut and blow dry and even hair wash. You can tell she puts in a lot of work and thought when doing your hair and making sure it works well for your face too. I'm literally so happy. This is my second time coming! I am 8 months PP and my hair has been different since having a baby. The first time I came I was freshly PP and I came with tomo and he gave me great hair cut! He listened to what I wanted and showed me before cutting if I was ok with it and when he was doing my layers too! This time I booked with Ayumi she was very nice as well I explained about my hair loss and hair regrowth due to having a baby and I told her I wanted a hair cut to make my hair look fuller. We did a U shaped cut with long layers! I love my hair it def looks so much better. I did book online both times and they have free 1 hr parking. The hair cut comes with a nice hair wash and head massage. Even tho there is a language barrier I did get great results I also showed photos for reference. Will def be coming back and for $50 that's a steal! I've been searching since I moved to LA for an affordable haircut. I've never been pleased with any haircut, whether expensive or inexpensive, so I'd rather find a good deal. I found a random TikTok about this place and realized they had great reviews on Yelp and Google and decided to give it a shot. They have a website where you can easily make an appointment convenient for me I hate talking on the phone. The salon is on Melrose and having a free 1-hour parking lot is a big plus! I booked my appointment with Tomo since he came up in most of the reviews I read. I showed him some pics of what I wanted and got started right away. First hair wash that included a little scalp massage which was nice. Then he started to cut my hair and made sure to check in with me again about the length. Ended with a blowout. I need to learn how to blow out my hair at home because by the end I was shocked at how well the haircut turned out. Normally I like my hair curled after a haircut but this showed how nicely my layers fell. I wish I had asked Tomo to take a back shot because the layers looked so nice from behind too. The whole wash, cut, and dry lasted exactly 1 hour perfect timing to get back to my car, and the greatest part for a wash, cut, and dry it was only $50!!! I've spent more than twice that amount before and was never as happy with my cut! Also, my hair was touching my lower back! I can't thank Tomo enough and he was so nice too. I tipped 30%. I saw a tiktok about Soho and gave them a try bc the prices were hard to beat for LA and am so glad I did. I requested the full color, cut, and shampoo package and Ayumi was the sweetest. The salon was bright and clean and the vibe was very chic inside. Ayumi took the time to discuss with me the color palette and what was possible without bleach per my preference. It came out a little redder than what I was imagining but that comes with the roulette of trying to lighten dark without bleach. I have dry, frizzy, curly hair and it's almost impossible to find someone that knows how to cut it and also what cut works with this hair type. Tomo is amazing!! OMG. I am actually hesitant to write a review cause am in fear for others to find this place and it will either start being 1) too booked or 2) too expensive. Haircut- $50!!! It's not a gimmick. I have long hair and just couldn't believe the price. I almost felt ashamed paying that low for my amazing haircut. I left a nice tip but I think the last time I paid that was when I was in college. The haircut itself is HIGH QUALITY. Tomo shampoo-d my hair very thoroughly and then he cut my hair exactly how I wanted it. Tomo took such great care in doing my haircut. I have paid 3 times as much for a haircut that was not as good. Parking was a breeze on the street. I am definitely coming back and probably switching to Soho New York to do my hair from now on. I have had my haircut twice at this salon - first by Tomo and then today by Ayumi. Both haircuts were just beautiful and I will happily return to either stylist. We looked at a few photos and he made sure he knew exactly how much I wanted to cut off, then it was time to shampoo. I think this place is okay. I will say the price is pretty great. I paid $160 for hair cut and color including my tip, and that's hard to beat in LA. The color came out amazing, although I asked for dark cool toned brown and there's a ton of red in the undertone. The haircut was good, not amazing, and I had to remind the stylist several times to even out the sides of my hair or cut layers around my face with a taper or even out the sides - otherwise he was going to just leave it irregular. My bangs are still not quite cut evenly. The most disappointing thing was the styling. I could have done a better job myself. He didn't use heat protectant, and my hair came out extremely frizzy, dry, and not shiny. No brush techniques, no asking how I wanted it styled. And my bangs came out with a gap in the middle. He insisted all of this was because of my natural hair texture not being straight, or the natural wave of my hair. I'll attach a photo of me having rewashed and styled my bangs and you'll see no gap was very easy to achieve. It took me five minutes. My concern is - how does he handle clients who have wavy or curly hair? I'm not convinced he works with people who don't have pin straight silky hair naturally, or even knows what to do. I mean, it was pretty appalling to leave the studio with my hair in the state it was in and no care or concern to fix it. . You would think a hair stylist would want to make their client's hair look as good as possible. Finally - it's not cool to judge your clients. He said "you shouldn't change your natural hair color", when it's not up to him, and kept asking why I wasn't at work (I work in freelance and often at night - I'm a musician). read more

Truly the best haircut I have ever gotten! My friend, who has similar hair to mine, had recommended Tomo and the Soho New York salon. I went in for a haircut on Sunday and asked for long layers and face framing layers. I was a little nervous because I've had some bad experiences in the past with layers looking choppy in my naturally straight hair. However, that was not the case at all! Tomo's attention to detail and blending of the layers looks so seamless. Tomo is extremely professional and polite and the prices are extremely affordable. I moved to LA for college and I'm extremely particular about my hair. I've only ever trusted 3 people in total (4 now because of this experience!) with my hair throughout my life. I value my hair so much and so I was scared of trying a new place. I've tried those famous instagram places and they haven't gone well. So I was cautious when trying this place, but I was extremely happy with my hair cut. I got it done by a nice lady who reminded me of my own Asian mother as she gave little head massages when washing my hair and was very careful. I showed her a few pictures of what I wanted and kind of help guide her with the exact length I wanted which she made easy as she checked in with me multiple times (I'm an extreme introvert and feel bad when making interjections) which made me feel more comfortable. Since this is basically an Asian hair salon, it is pretty easy asking for popular asian hair styles. I got slightly above the chest cut with long layers, V cut in the back with face framing pieces and shortening of my over grown curtain bangs. Worst experience ever and that is saying a lot considering I have worked with several hairstylists and salons getting them featured in press, as I am a publicist. They completely ruined my day by a weird phone conversation booking me and said I could finally come at 6 pm that day after offering me only one impossibly early appointment, then they sent me a text hour later later saying it's tomorrow, so they moved me to tomorrow acting like they didn't say tonight. However, i was already there at 6 when I got the text and walked in to ask what was going on because i am not going to go tomorrow if they are going to change it again. By the feel of it seemed like they were very judgey towards me and turned me away so rudely, never in 15 years working with hair salons have I received this behavior.
