SOHO is an old school traditional American and New American restaurant that's been open in the heart of Vinings since 1997. The restaurant is located inside the Vinings Jubilee shopping center inside I-285. This shopping center looks like a collection of white and brick houses, but it's really a bunch of shops and restaurants. Our group of 10 visited for dinner on a Sunday evening around 6pm. We didn't have a reservation, but it wasn't a problem. The restaurant wasn't busy. There were three people at the bar and maybe one or two tables taken inside. The hostess was able to seat us immediately inside the dining room at a long table that seated exactly for 10. SOHO is on OpenTable, so if you're planning to come here, book your reservations there and earn free dining points that can be used towards future discounts at any OpenTable restaurant. As soon as I stepped inside this restaurant, it felt old-fashioned to me. I definitely wouldn't describe the interior as modern, contemporary, nor rustic-chic like so many other New American restaurants around town, but then again, those restaurants haven't been around since the 90s. SOHO has a "classic" look with a traditional vibe. The restaurant is nice and elegant with a semi-open kitchen, open-air patio, large bar, customary dining room, and a windowy porch overlooking the shopping center. There's not a whole lot of natural light inside the main dining room and bar area. The decor is classy (white tablecloths) and the staff are professional and dressed formally. You can sort of think of this place as like a dated South City Kitchen. SOHO has an extensive wine list and a food menu that changes weekly. They have wine and tapas pairings. The menu during our visit included salads like an artisan lettuce salad ($7.95) and braised cider beet salad ($9.95); starters such as sauteed Charleston sweetgrass mussels ($13.95) and Thai chicken lettuce wraps ($9.50); a cheeseboard ($12.50); pastas like eggplant lasagna ($18.00) and crab and corn risotto ($22.00); seafood such as seared scallops ($25.00) and sea bass ($28.95); entrees like Springer Mountain chicken ($21.00) and Painted Hills short rib ($26.50); and desserts including New York-style cheesecake ($5.95). Every Sunday, they offer a $30 lobster boil. You have to call and reserve your lobster by 5pm Friday for consumption the following Sunday. The Sunday lobster special includes a 1.5-pound Maine lobster with corn, potatoes, Andouille sausage, and salad. Our table ordered a variety of dishes including crab cakes ($27.00) and steak frites ($23.00). The pork chop was popular. At least three were ordered. Here's what I tried: Starter: * Tuna Tartare ($11.95) - charred poblanos, Meyer lemon, crisped rice paper Pasta: * Apple and Sausage Ravioli ($19.95) - browned butter, crisped sausage, sage, apple cider drizzle Meat: * Pork Chop ($23.95) - fennel and rosemary crust, crispy Brussels sprouts and apples, carrot puree, sweet and sour drizzle * Elk Tenderloin ($35.00) - raspberry mustard marinade, sweet potato gratin, haricot verts Dessert: * Classic Chocolate Bread Pudding ($6.75) - two caramels and vanilla ice cream In general, I thought the food was A-OK. There wasn't a single bad item, but nothing was outstanding either... except for the dessert. The chocolate bread pudding was phenomenal. It wasn't like the typical bread pudding I'm accustomed to. It looked and tasted similar to a compact brownie, but was more thick, dense, and smooth, trending towards fudge. It was rich, chewy, and chocolaty. It was what you'd call perfection. The caramel drizzle and scoop of ice cream were just icing on top of the proverbial cake. If I rated SOHO on this dessert alone, I'd give them five stars. A must-order. The tuna tartare was good quality. The fish was fresh and overall, this app had decent flavor and consistency. It's not among the best tuna tartare I've had, but it's still worth ordering. The apple and sausage ravioli was tasty. This pasta dish came with about nine pieces of ravioli. The sausage was savory and served chopped into several tiny pieces. I liked the sauce which was flavorful, but also oily. Not bad. The pork chops were huge. They were thick, meaty, and had good flavor, but they were also oversalted. The vegetable and fruit sides were yummy and went well with the pork. I ordered the elk tenderloin just to try elk. The elk was cooked medium rare and served sliced into five pieces. The meat was cooked appropriately with succulent-looking red centers. The meat wasn't gamey. It tasted like a less flavorful and more chewy cut of beef. While it wasn't bad, I probably should have just ordered the New York strip steak instead. I wasn't a huge fan of the sides either. Presentation was outstanding all-around. The dishes were plated beautifully. Service was terrific. Our server was polite, knowledgeable, and attentive. All main courses were served from the kitchen simultaneously to our large group. read more

SOHO is a classy, comfortable and delicious option. I was surprisingly pleased with every meal that was delivered to our table - they were all perfect! The ambiance was warm and classy - I got a 90s classic vibe. Our waiter was amazing - I wish I could remember his name! :/ we had a party of 5 on New Years Eve and he not only gave us attention and wonderful service during a very busy time, he also recommended some of his favorite dishes on the menu which are probably the top items SOHO offers. We ordered: Chicken tortilla soup Caesar salad Thai chicken lettuce wraps The General's Calamari Apple & Sausage Ravioli Crab cake Scottish Salmon Pork Chop Drinks: 'Merican Pie Blood Orange Margarita Liki Tiki The food was phenomenal. We all pretty much shared so everyone could taste the variety of food we ordered. The pork chop was voted the best dish at the table. It was so juicy, so rich, and so filling. I loved the andouille sausage grits that came as a side. The table raved about the salmon and the calamari. And the soup even came out personalized, which let us know that it was made fresh to order. The only "negative" feedback we had for the dishes was regarding the Apple & Sausage Ravioli. The brown butter sauce was entirely too sweet and overpowered the meal. Tucked into the Vinings Jubilee, SOHO is an American style restaurant with a variety of great dishes. Going for a casual lunch with a larger group of coworkers, I didn't know what to expect. However, they were truly accommodating for our group and our server Tiffany was pleasant and keen on all the specials and menu items. Orders were received quickly and our food came out in no time at all. I ordered a shrimp linguine that included jumbo shrimp, spinach, and cherry tomato based on a white wine sauce on a bed of pasta. It was delicious and I cleaned the plate. And despite being with a big group with different palates, everyone cleaned their plate. My coworkers that got the apple and sausage ravioli and the salmon salad said nothing but great things. I will definitely be coming back to Soho, especially to try the key lime pie that Tiffany recommended! read more

I cannot get enough of the Scottish Salmon with the green curry risotto. The flavors are complex and embody the true meaning of Thai cuisine. He was new to the job and was in training but he handled the table like a pro (he probably is)! At one point, I asked for a straw and he brought a new glass of my tea because he said the ice might have melted a bit while I was waiting for the straw. I thought that small detail of thoughtfulness was great! Food we ate: For appetizers, we had the crab cake and the artisan lettuce salad (both recommended). I've been to SOHO many times and I must say that I've enjoyed myself each time. Ambiance: I recommend you come for dinner. It's dim lit and depending on which side you sit on, you overlooked the rest of the Village shopping center. It's a really nice vibe. I wish they had more distinct music. I can't ever remember music playing but that just may be due to the food and conversation. Dress: I say business casual is fine. I wouldn't wear ripped jeans but maybe a nice pair of jeans and a button up. You see a lot of business men and women here so if you see a suit or two don't be alarmed. Food: I'm never disappointed in the food. My go to is the apple sausage ravioli. It such a savory dish and does not taste like apples at all. Lol The dessert is always bomb....from the cheese cake to the apple pie with cinnamon ice cream. You can't go wrong!! Service: The service is pretty good. The waiters and waitresses are always knowledgeable of the menu and give great suggestion. Cons: Parking can feel super limited because of the location. Make a reservation. SOHO is a beautiful restaurant located within Vinings Jubilee. My friend and I had a drink at the bar then were seated for dinner. The ambiance is perfect for a date night. Eh - There isn't anything in particular that is wrong with this place, but I just didn't find it to be an incredible dining experience. There are so many amazing restaurants in Atlanta and this will likely never be a choice again. The service was great and the restaurant is perfect however the food left much to be desired. I sampled crab cakes and spinach as a starter which seemed pretty bland and had the Eggplant Lasagna as my main course. I was extremely surprised to find it wasn't gluten free. It also was nothing to write home about. It came nicely played but was nothing compared to Storico, Boccalupo, and various other hot spots for true pasta. Also the eggplant and cheese left much to be desired. To finish, we shared the bread pudding. Again, such a let down. Know what place has amazing bread pudding? The Irish Pub in Town Brookhaven. This was certainly a waste of $40 but I can see why those who live near by may use it for a date night. I would highly recommend this restaurant! The ambience is calm and peaceful. Cole was my server and he was wonderful. He recommended some great dishes in each category. I started with the calamari which was phenomenal. The sauce was flavorful with a kick and had a great Asian flavor. The cucumber and ginger Collins drink was also very refreshing and I'm not a typical gin drinker. For my entree, I had the braised short rib and it was THE best I have had. The short rib was tender and it came with creamed corn and sautéed kale which were both very good. The destination for Operation Catch Up with my dear gal pal/former business partner that I haven't seen since 2012. She suggested SoHo & it was a good choice. A veteran to the historic Vinings area, yet my 1st time here. As soon as I walked in, the Hostess welcomed me & asked if I was meeting someone by chance. Once we got that established, she led me to J-Faulk, who selected a nice table on the enclosed Sun Porch that overlooked the Vinings Jubilee Courtyard. After we hugged for a few minutes, our Server, the amazing Amanda appeared. She was incredibly welcoming, engaging & hospitalble to say the least. Simultaneously we were deciding on which wine we were going to select, (Flight Night is on Wednesdays) & Amanda offered us a few samples per my Malbec & J-Faulk's robust preferences. A rarity for me, I wasn't sold on the Amancaya. I opted to try the Seven Falls Cabernet per Amanda's friendly suggestion & I was very happy. After a taste of my glass, J-Faulk finished her original selection & got 2 more glasses of Seven Falls. With Amanda checking in on us with the perfect timing, it was nosh time. We kept it simple with ordering Tempura Calamari & Brisket Tacos. We had a fabulous time in catching up, enjoying the suggested wines, good food & receiving perfect table service. Really glad I found this place! The appetizers and entrees are delicious. We got the lobster spring rolls (excellent) and the calamari. I'm not a calamari fan, and even I liked it. My husband got the elk tenderloin and I got the Scottish salmon. We both loved our dishes. Date of Visit: 4/23/18 Some highs, some strong lows. Highs: Prince Edward Island Mussels (white wine Gypsy sauce with chorizo), Tuna Tartare (charred poblano, Meyer lemon, crisped rice paper). Both very fresh and the Meyer lemon really made the tartare pop. Mediums: The Ain't That 'Merica (High West Double Rye, NY Apple Whiskey, Syrop de Canne, lemon juice, bitters) and High & Tight (High West Double Rye, Cherry Bark vanilla bitters, Velvet Falernum, lemon juice) cocktails. Friendly, but slow service. Lows: Seared Scallops (roasted cauliflower, sauteed turnip greens, butternut squash bechamel). One of the strangest - and most disappointing - scallop dishes I've ever had. The sauce completely overpowered the scallops, while also removing any crust they might have had to leave them somewhat mushy. I'm an admitted seafood addict and willing to try almost anything. Soho is one of my favorite restaurants in Atlanta and is well worth the drive. They do it right, from the excellent quality paper weekly printed menus, to a very well stoked bar, attentive service, lovely patio, great menu choices and the little things, like chopsticks for your tuna tartare or the calamari. They have never said no to any special requests or substitutions and are always extremely accommodating. They also have Soho dining club and by enrolling you can accumulate points,which are redeemable as a dining certificate as well as get a free birthday meal sent to your mailing address. On my last visit here, we sat on the patio. My one complaint is the not so very comfortable metal chairs. I started with Cumberland blvd. cocktail and it was lovely. The manhattan also did not disappoint. For an app we ordered 1/2 size crab and corn risotto with Israeli cous cous. Absolutely delicious and if that was half the portion, I don't even want to know the dinner size as it was HUGE. For my entree I went with the special of the day - Duck breast with farro, asparagus and cherry tomatoes. Absolutely delicious, cooked a perfect med-rare. I also asked them to take the skin off and they accommodated. On my other visits here I've tried tuna tartare, crab cake, and elk and these are also fantastic. In fact, this is my very first time coming here and not ordering my favorite elk entree with purple rice. Overall: read above :). Love it. I think this might actually be the first 5-star rating that I've ever given on here. I loved everything about this place. The food is delicious! Between me and my sister we ordered the Springer Mountain chicken, pork chop, calamari, and apple pie a la mode. I thought the chicken was so tasty! It was perfectly crisp on the outside, seasoned just right, and it was served on top of creamy mashed potatoes alongside carrots and chard. The calamari had an Asian flare and a little spice which I'm a fan of. We went to celebrate my sister's birthday and found that you can order any dessert for free, so we ordered the apple pie. Once again, that was delicious. The customer service was top notch! Our waitress was just the right amount of attentive haha. The vibe was cool but the only bad thing I can say about this place is that the bathroom didn't match the quality of the rest of the restaurant (small, I know). read more

The steak was like a rubber wedding steak that sat under a hot lamp, the "lobster" would have been better if it was a Mississippi crawfish pulled from the mud, burned and covered in Georgia clay. Our first time here was today. Well let's begin with our first impressions. SOHO is a dress casual restaurant. It would definitely not be considered as an 'upscale' classification. Which is fine, just want to make a clear distinction for everyone who has not been here before. It is located in a boutique style shopping center, a very nice neighborhood restaurant. We don't see this as a 'destination' restaurant where guests would travel to dine here, more for those who live in the area. For that, this is a great local restaurant. It's has a good size bar for eating or drinking in the center as you walk in. They did not have air conditioning on or if I was on it needed to be turned up. It was hotter in the restaurant then outside. The drinks were all sweating on the table and no one put paper napkins underneath. We had to. Seating is not built for comfort. Chairs are all wooden. Many restaurants do this so the patrons don't stay to long and they 'turn' tables faster thus increasing revenue. An old restaurant trick. Not to say SOHO is using uncomfortable chairs for this reason. Only the owners would know that answer. A nice casual atmosphere. Let's mice in to service. Our server was Ariana. She was very pleasant, good table manners but it was obvious she was new. She was not familiar with the menu items. We were served a cheese plate and could tell us what cheeses were what and usually a server will tell you which cheeses complement the accompaniments. Not even an attempt. The other point was Ariana was not attentive. We constantly found ourselves looking for her. Waiting and waiting though out the evening. Her assistant would place a square tray on the table crooked. Now a polished server would square up the tray and not leave it crooked. It's all about details. Ariana was very pleasant and very sweet but I blame management for this. This is just a lack of training from management pure and simple. She just needs more training. At great restaurants you will never see this happen!! We saved the best for last the food. The menu is not a large menu but has a. Rey good variety that will please everyone. I liked how they subtly presented that they are accommodating towards modifying food preparation. This was a nice touch that is refreshing to see. I started with stating this would not be considered as a 'upscale' restaurant. But the food I am happy to say is at the caliber of an 'upscale' restaurant. My hats off to the Chef's. Not only was the food excellent but the presentation was also impressive. The dressings on both the salad and slaw were tasty and I thoroughly enjoyed the soup and ate a great amount of it though it was my friend's. So I have to say that we really like the food here! This tends to be a place we go in the fall and winter when we want a nice hearty meal! My one complaint is that this place sorely needs some interior updating. I'm so surprised they haven't done so! I wonder if that's why they keep it so dark in there - LOL! Enjoyed a fabulous dinner at Soho while visiting friends in the area. My dish was the fennel and rosemary crusted pork chop. It was a huge cut on the bone, cooked to medium, and enhanced with a deeply flavored sauce. It was served on cheese and andouille grits and spinach -- every bite was flavorful and cheesy. One of my favorite restaurant meals in the last couple of years, for sure! Two others had the crab cakes, and one had the cast iron chicken -- all yummy! The red skin potatoes were crispy and flavorful. The sweet potato gratin was oK, but not to the level of the other dishes we ate. All the meals were delicious, and our server was friendly and offered personal recommendations. We finished with the chocolate bread pudding and the warm apple pie, not because we were hungry, but because everything else was so good. Would definitely return here, as our local friends have done.
