I drove from SGV all the way to SaMo to meet with friends for dinner. I haven't been to this area in almost a decade, so it was a nice refresher to get away from the suburbs. A friend recommended this spot since she works nearby and speaks highly about the queso. A reservation was made for the four of us. It wasn't busy when we arrived, but service was amazing. Staff here are very attentive and patient with us because of how much yapping we were doing. Chips came with complimentary salsa and refried beans. It was delicious. We ordered queso for all to share and it was superb! Then came our entrees. I went and got the carnitas and it was a lot. I couldnt event finish it! It came with other stuff like rice, beans, and tortillas, so you will get stuffed. We ended the night with some churros and it was great. Splendid place overall! With only two people manning the floor, I honestly wasn't expecting the level of service I received, but both people were incredibly friendly, attentive, and genuinely seemed to care about making sure I was comfortable. They even made sure I was set up with a spot to charge my laptop while I ate, which was such a thoughtful touch. My server, Felix, was fantastic. His recommendations for both food and drinks were spot-on, and everything I tried absolutely blew me away with how flavorful it was. I started with the mixed ceviche, and the taste and textures were on point. No fishiness whatsoever, just incredibly fresh, bright, flavorful seafood. I also ordered another mini steak appetizer that I could have eaten about five more servings of. The steaks were marinated in a tamarind sauce and cooked to perfection. Seriously, I wish I could have eaten more but I was on a tight timeline (which Felix paid extra attention to and made sure to get me out right on time)! For a drink, I tried their Sol Agave Old Fashioned made with tequila. I'll be honest, I don't even like old fashioneds, so when Felix suggested it I was hesitant.. BUT I LOVED IT. The tequila was so smooth, tasted perfectly balanced and fruity even, and watching them make the drink right in front of me made the whole experience feel extra special. Top-tier presentation and execution. And of course, I had to finish with the flan because it's one of my favorites. It did not disappoint~ absolutely excellent. Between the food, drinks, service, and overall experience, this was such a memorable meal. I genuinely can't believe this place isn't getting more traction during lunch. Everything was so thoughtfully done, and the people working there clearly care about what they're serving and the experience they're giving their guests. I will start off that the knowledge and professionalism of the service staff is fantastic. The place is very simply decorated with class and standards. It is clean and built well which offers a very refreshing and high class environment without making it too bougie but keeping the standard standards. My Cocktail was priced reasonably. $13 for a shot of 400 Conejo Mezcal is not bad. The refreshing ocean air carries itself through the dining room and it is moderately noisy with an array of different Latin music Parking is easy there's a subterranean parking lot I had the shrimp dish. I will say for $38. This was definitely overpriced for the amount and size of the shrimp that I received. It was lacking a bit of flavor such as seasoning but overall, I basically licked my plate clean once I added just a pinch of salt and a couple splashes of that delicious creamy jalapeño cream soup. We ordered the margarita flight, ceviche, flautas, and calamari. The margaritas were very flavorful while each one had its own unique taste. It came with this green soup, jalapeño cream soup. I have never tasted anything like it!!! Sooooo goooood. Chiles rellenos were also delicious. My burrito was packed, super flavorful, and didn't fall apart halfway through (rare!). The lamb was tender, rich, and honestly one of the standout items of the night. For dessert we split the butter cake and the tres leches, and both were ridiculous. The butter cake was warm, soft, and crazy good, and the tres leches was probably the best I've had in LA -- super moist without being soggy and just the right amount of sweetness. On Halloween day, my significant other and I had friends visiting from out of the country. We met for an afternoon in Santa Monica and we had a little more time to spend together. I suggested seeing if we could grab a drink at Sol Agave. Very happy that we stopped by. It was mid-afternoon and happy hour time. The bar was relatively empty, and we let the host know we were only going to get drinks, but he allowed us to sit in the patio area AND order from the happy hour menu. We really appreciated it. The customer service was friendly and prompt. I think that since it was Halloween afternoon, it may have been a little less crowded that a normal Friday happy hour. The restaurant was comfortable and not loud at the time we were there. We enjoyed our drinks and the complimentary chips with salsa and bean dip. The chips were super fresh and delicious. We just ate there during the hottest month of the year and they do not have AC! There are AC vents in the restaurant and the manager lied to me and said they have it set at 68 but I stood under the vents multiple times and there was no air coming out! This place is located on ocean Ave in the heart of Santa Monica across from the beach. Very nice spot and everyone was super friendly. Our group was greeted right away. We had reservations but arrived about 25 mins early and they still seated us once we checked in. (I was glad that we did not have to wait). Our server was really nice and checked in on our table to make sure we were ok and didn't need anything. This place is cute inside with indoor and out door seating, tables (high and low), booths and a full bar. I ordered the filet enchiladas. Unfortunately my food was cold so I did not enjoy them and took most of it home to heat up. (Heating up leftovers might not be as good). I'm sure they would have been good if served at the right temperature. I did dine here on Mother's Day so maybe that's why the food was cold. Very disappointing experience. We were initially told that our table would be ready shortly, yet several parties who arrived after us were seated before us without any explanation. After finally ordering, we were told our to-go order would be ready in 15-20 minutes, but we ended up waiting nearly 50 minutes. Delays can happen, but the lack of communication and apparent disregard for customers who had been waiting longer was frustrating. A simple update or acknowledgment would have gone a long way. The meal began with a really great fresh tortilla chip and guacamole appetizer (we ordered a second bowl of guacamole it was so good.
