Filet was perfect, as were the Ceasar salad and Meatball starter (BOMB). Also had an excellent cheese platter! The total price was actually not that much different from the regular ribeye. I got the mashed potatoes and spinach meant to be shared (even though it was just me). For shareable sides they were also reasonably priced and pretty good quality. The food was very ordinary and not good. There were 2 of us and we ordered 2 different meals and we both did not like what we ordered. I ordered their spring salad that says on the menu it comes with avocado and gives you the option to add a protein; I chose shrimp. See the pix posted for reference. The salad was served as a side salad and 4 shrimp on the plate as if those 4 shrimp were the main and they added a side of tartar sauce- for the shrimp? The salad also said it came with a vinaigrette dressing yet it tasted as if it only had lemon squeezed on it as the dressing. My husband ordered a steak sandwich which was meh . The bread had been smothered with sweet onions. He ate the steak and left the bread behind. Also didn't really like it nor the way it was served. Meat on Ocean is an underrated steakhouse, and they have one of the largest dry aging steak rooms in the country! They're most known for their dry aged steaks, but they offer a variety of steak and seafood. I decided to try the 45 day dry-aged steak based on the recommendations from the waiter, and it was so delicious! It had a nice nutty, earthy flavor and it was so tender. This prime steakhouse and seafood restaurant sits above the Santa Monica beach on Ocean Blvd. It's a prime location close to the beach and famous Santa Monica pier. Sunset views are great here with the restaurants open air windows facing the ocean. We came in for our 25th wedding anniversary and the staff treated us so nicely. They made us feel special. This morning was an unusual morning. Sure I've drank too much while out with my friends but this was certainly an unusual morning. I'm absolutely certain that my drink had been spiked the night before with something that had me running on the beach of Santa Monica, roaring like a lion and seeing the eternal we all come from and will eventually return to one day. Alcohol had never done that to me, no matter how hard I tried. I was never going to recall the night before or unearth answers to questions while standing on this beach, with sand nestled between my toes and my body seriously dehydrated. But I felt like I could feel my senses more deeply this morning and I had a strong sense, no an urge, for steak. Perhaps running along the beach and roaring out to the stars had awaken something primal in me. Luckily, right across the street there was Meat on Ocean. The place is casual but I was certainly underdressed after a night of 'beach running.' However I was able to muster up enough saliva to comb my hair and wipe away the dirt from my face. I sat down, with the breeze hitting me from the open wall. I was starving, so I ordered appropriately. First was the Prime Wagyu Ribeye with a side of mashed potatoes and spinach. This would be sufficient for an average man but I was no longer an average man after last night's rite of passage. I went ahead and ordered the Lobster tail with a nice draught on the side. Everything was done well and tasted delicious as is usually the case when coming here. After the meal, I felt more back in reality. My stomach was full and my tastebuds were overstimulated. If you're looking for good steak in Santa Monica it's either here or BOA you should be going to, but the ambiance here is much better. And if you're looking for a spiritual awakening, try looking for the guy that spiked my beer and make sure you're next to a beach. My wife and I came to Santa Monica for the day from Bakersfield. We wound up at this fancy restaurant on the beach and asked to sit outside. They sat us "as close as we can put you" to the outside patio, which was empty, then proceeded to bring other, perhaps better looking people out to the patio. It seemed evident the staff wanted potential customers on the street to see attractive folks on their patio enjoying lunch, rather than my fat country ass in the company of my beautiful wife who probably looked like she was doing a Make A Wish charity event. In either case, my $26 meatball sandwich and my $15 fries were pretty good and the server was polite. With a couple of beers each, this wound up being a $150+ lunch. I was out with friends last Saturday night and they were in the mood for a steak we were having a drink at misfits and didn't really know where to go when I remembered "Meat on Ocean" was nearby. I had never been, but we decided to give it a try. The atmosphere was beautiful and the food was delicious. We had châteaubriand potatoes, asparagus, and sautéed mushrooms. Everything was very good. Meat on Ocean, a catchy and unique restaurant name, that can have more than one meaning. This is a steakhouse that seems to have evaded my search engines. I must be doing it wrong. Once you walk in, you become immediately aware that the establishment is serious meat business. They have designated tall glass cabinets that categorize and store prime cuts of beef (Wagyu, and the like). There is a huge wine selection with bottles elegantly displayed in multiple rows on the main floor. To match that, there is expansive and impressive seating adorned with wood and leather. There is also a row of tables that hugs ocean avenue, if you are hungry like me, to have views of passers by and the Santa Monica beach. Usually, I am in this area primarily for seafood. But on this occasion for lunch, I decided on meat and chose the Filet Mignon medallions, two ways. It comprises of two 3-oz pieces, one with Bordelaise and the other with Béarnaise sauce, both of which are separated by a small portion of finely mashed (actually puréed) potatoes. I requested that the meat be cooked medium rare. The dish arrived simple but beautifully presented. The medallions were juicy, had optimum char and cut through smoothly. They were perfectly prepared. Both the French sauces were fresh, rich and superbly complemented and elevated every bite. Service was high class. Oh to Four Star or Five. Rounding up perhaps. The MEAT on Ocean is Delicious. They specialize in dry aged steaks in their Himalayan salt humidity controlled aging room, on display at the back of the restaurant near the open kitchen. The aged prime beef is where the Fun is. Choosing between different cuts of various days of aging from 30-90+ days is a true taste adventure. The servers are excellent beef ambassadors explaining the different nuances of the aging lengths. They also have the specific weights of the cuts of steak for the day. Priced per ounce and generally in the $4 per/ oz range +/- I believe the steaks are very reasonably priced and butchered to share. They do have a couple other non aged options including grass fed and wagu. I thought the regular ribeye was underwhelming last visit, whereas the aged steaks are vibrant complex and more interesting Cocktails are ok, nothing to rave about. But the corkage fee I will SCREAM from the roof top. Nothing. Nada. Freeeeeeee for the first 12 bottles. So this is THE SPOT if you want to bring in your own wine. They also have an substantial wine list with familiar names and reasonable prices. In my three visits service has been mostly exceptional. Knowledgeable, Attentive, Friendly. We took a picture With our server last time, he was a hoot! The room is really nice. The bar is classy (charcuterie cheeses on display, I would suggest a board!) Corporate baddie looks real good on me! I just reached an amazing milestone with the company I work for and my managers to treated me in the best way possible....with a gigantic steak. I was as giddy as I could be to have Meat be the perfect backdrop for the celebration. She showed us to our booth seat (I love a booth) and we were able to soak in the ambiance. Definitely a fancier establishment (I knew what I was doing when suggesting here for dinner). It was cool looking around and seeing a bunch of wine bottles on display as well as the gigantic dry age fridge with tons of beautiful beef. We started with bread for the table. Totally delicious with two butter options (sweet and salted). I also opted for the 2nd street cocktail - totally perfect, sweet, and refreshing. For my main, I of course opted for the American Wagyu steak and it was perfectly cooked medium rare to my liking. Absolutely loved it. We also had the cauliflower, french fries, and spinach for sides. All paired great with our meals. Couldn't forget dessert! The apple tart was HUGE.
