Decided to walk to Sol Agave after visiting the pier. When we arrived, it was pretty empty so we sat at the bar. All the staff were friendly, server was great and the bartender made amazing drinks. I absolutely loved the blackberry cocktail they had. Food was delicious. I had the tampiqueña. Which was a skirt steak on top of a chicken quesadilla. Amazing. Meat was flavorful and tender. It came with this green soup, jalapeño cream soup. I have never tasted anything like it!!! Sooooo goooood. Chiles rellenos were also delicious. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The ambience was nice, a bit dark so for us older people who need glasses it was a little hard to read the menu.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] All in all, will definitely make the 40 minute drive to go back.
Sat at the bar for a drink after spending some time on the beach. Felix greeted us with friendly energy and was super attentive. I got the skinny margarita which was really good and so was the chips and salsa. My friend had the pork belly bites which were delicious, and of course, Felix came by to make sure everything was going smoothly. Everything about this experience was great so when you go in, make sure to ask for Felix!
The food here was so delicious. We were sat really quickly our party to 3. The staff was super friendly. The manager was on it. I will say our server was lacking. He never came back to our table once the food was delivered. That was the only annoyance. Other than that I would come again. The portion sizes were a good size and very flavorful
Had an great dinner at Sol Agave in Santa Monica. I grabbed a burrito and my girlfriend ordered the lamb, and both dishes were legit fire. My burrito was packed, super flavorful, and didn't fall apart halfway through (rare!). The lamb was tender, rich, and honestly one of the standout items of the night. For dessert we split the butter cake and the tres leches, and both were ridiculous. The butter cake was warm, soft, and crazy good, and the tres leches was probably the best I've had in LA -- super moist without being soggy and just the right amount of sweetness. The vibe was great, service was on point, and it felt like one of those spots you just end up coming back to without planning it. Definitely recommend.
On Halloween day, my significant other and I had friends visiting from out of the country. We met for an afternoon in Santa Monica and we had a little more time to spend together. I suggested seeing if we could grab a drink at Sol Agave. Very happy that we stopped by. It was mid-afternoon and happy hour time. The bar was relatively empty, and we let the host know we were only going to get drinks, but he allowed us to sit in the patio area AND order from the happy hour menu. We really appreciated it. The customer service was friendly and prompt. I think that since it was Halloween afternoon, it may have been a little less crowded that a normal Friday happy hour. The restaurant was comfortable and not loud at the time we were there. We enjoyed our drinks and the complimentary chips with salsa and bean dip. The chips were super fresh and delicious. Loved the visit, and I look forward to going back again for a full meal in the near future.
I was going for a walk in the area and trying to get some exercise. I happen to be walking by Soule agave restaurant and I walked in at 2 PM sharp and I asked what time is the happy hour start? I was lucky it starts at 2 PM and goes till 6 PM. I ordered the mixed ceviche with octopus fish and shrimp. I felt it was generous portion and very good quality. I would definitely come back in the future.
This place is located on ocean Ave in the heart of Santa Monica across from the beach. Very nice spot and everyone was super friendly. Our group was greeted right away. We had reservations but arrived about 25 mins early and they still seated us once we checked in. (I was glad that we did not have to wait). Our server was really nice and checked in on our table to make sure we were ok and didn't need anything. This place is cute inside with indoor and out door seating, tables (high and low), booths and a full bar. I ordered the filet enchiladas. Unfortunately my food was cold so I did not enjoy them and took most of it home to heat up. (Heating up leftovers might not be as good). I'm sure they would have been good if served at the right temperature. I did dine here on Mother's Day so maybe that's why the food was cold. Next time, I will come on a regular day when it's not so busy and give it another try.
My friend and I just happened to be hungry and in the area so we decided to try something new! Roses: - The food was yummy! I got a Sol Agave Bowl (with steak/no avocado) and a spicy mango margarita (so YUM and actually spicy!) - Our waitress was nice, and I liked that they kept filling up my water (I drink a lot of water) - Walked in on a Thursday night, no reservation needed Thorns: - Careful where you park, one of the lots they validate for, but the one I parked in they don't - Wish we got a refill on the chips! - "B" health score Overall a solid, spontaneous dinner spot or good for date night! I'd love to come back and enjoy their patio on a warm summer day.

Lovely upscale Mexican restaurant near the water so there's a nice breeze and they have a large outdoor/indoor space. Nice for big groups or couples. I had the tacos Del Mar which was wonderful. My family liked everything and we loved the house made chips! read more

Our service from Erick was outstanding! The food was very good but it's pretty expensive for what it is. You're paying more for location and ambiance. Overall, it's a decent touristy restaurant and our group had a good time. read more

I honesty don't know why this place is rated so high i don't write reviews but on my FOURTH DAY OF FOOD POISONING I MUST eating here day two of my trip really ruined the rest of my week everything made me nauseous and i couldn't eat the whole day after dining here the chips and salsa was stale BEWARE THE CEVICHE... i asked my waiter if they properly cleaned the shrimp because i don't care if they do or not but if they do then i will eat it and he said they did so i ordered a shrimp ceviche there was clearly poop in every singe piece it was DISGUSTING he then said he would bring me churros to make things better then charged me!! i payed and didn't say a word i couldn't enjoy the beach without needing the bathroom every hour i'm in new york now but my 6 hour flight with this stomach ache was hellish read more

Upscale, nice area, friendly staff but we were waiting a lot in between requests. Enjoyed the marg flight and chile rellenos. Meat one was very good. Dessert was forgettable. Chips and dip were great. Great setting for a date or work celebration. Parking was confusing and they only validate on the south side lot. read more

Came by here on Cinco de Mayo with my friend. There was no wait surprisingly. We ordered chicken tinga tacos with rice & beans, and a house margarita each. To start we had chips & salsa with bean dip. The chips were fresh, the salsa was delicious, & the beans were warm. Our entree was pretty good. The rice was a little bland, but the black beans stood out. The tacos were alright, they hit the spot. The margarita was very strong! I definitely needed water to chase it down. One of my favorite restaurants in Santa Monica. The service is incredible. We sat at the bar and Felix was our bartender. We had no idea what to order and he made the best recommendations based on our preferences and allergies. We have a lot of allergies which makes it challenging going to Mexican food restaurants sometimes and they went above and beyond for us. Juan was another server who made a great impression on us. He was very kind and made additional recommendations for when we return. I also wanted to call out the host, he greeted us right when we walked in and actually came over to check in on us to make sure we liked everything and got us some to-go boxes. I work in the hospitality industry and notice customer service and attention to detail as I work in this world. We will absolutely be back. read more

Mouth watering, fine, authentic Mexican food. Walking distance from the Santa Monica pier. About 20 or so items on their menu and something for everybody. This restaurant has great Mexican food. Flavors are amazing and quality is very good. We ordered ceviche and grilled octopus to start. Both appetizers were really delicious with lots of flavor and excellent seasoning. For entree, I ordered the steak fajita. It was very tasty and cooked perfectly. Unfortunately, there wasn't as much steak and a lot of bell peppers hidden at the bottom. Margarita cocktail drinks were also very refreshing and yummy. My only issue with this establishment is that portions were quite small for the price. Service was very nice. Our waitress was attentive and friendly. Orders also came out well paced. Firstly, I have enormous gratitude to Sol Agave for the excellent service for our large group and for allowing us to book a reservation with 11 people without a deposit. The aura of the restaurant is vibrant, the outdoor seating is covered but open to the air. The servers were attentive and friendly. Unfortunately, for vegetarians, despite being an incredibly, incredibly vegetarian friendly restaurant (which I am so appreciative of!), the vegetarian option I tried (the veggie burrito) was simply not tasty. From the choice of vegetables, to the way the beans and rice were spiced and cooked, the burrito tasted somewhat bland and odd, leading to such disappointment I opted not to finish my burrito (which I am not sure I have ever needed to do before). read more
Magnificent. Beautiful atmosphere. Amazing cocktails. I got a lobster enchilada and it might be up there with the top 3 best lobster dishes I've ever had. I wanted to lick the plate. Shrimp enchilada was really good and more savory than the lobster, but I liked my lobster more Our octopus was the best I've ever had. I just couldn't believe my taste buds. Service was great as well. This is a MUST VISIT. I can't remember the last time I've had a 100/100 experience like this where every dish blew me away. read more

Where do I start? The moment we came in, we were greeted with a host in the front who was willing to accommodate us even though it was Valentines Day. Our server Ramiro was EXTREMELY knowledgeable on the menu & all the hip things on the menu, I love him lol. He knew the best drinks and what he thought I'd like, he was right! Cinco de Mayo Done Right at Sol Agave - Thanks to Juan Ortiz & Team We came to Sol Agave in Santa Monica for a Cinco de Mayo dinner and left already planning our next visit. The atmosphere was upbeat and festive--exactly what you want on a holiday like this. The food? Delicious. Every dish was bursting with flavor, and the presentation didn't miss a beat. But what stood out was the service. Juan Ortiz and the entire team made us feel genuinely welcomed and well taken care of. This is the BEST Mexican food in Los Angeles --- and the best Mexican food I've ever had as someone who's visited the major culinary hotspots globally at least once. The flavor profiles are incredible, authentic and have a distinctly home made but elevated taste that makes you immediately think of an abuelita must be tucked in the kitchen cooking. I came to Sol agave without any expectations -- it was a spur of the moment decision, but it's turned out to be one of the best restaurants I've ever eaten in the world. The staff are all so warm, attentive but also chill. Please do yourself a favor and visit this jewel. read more

I liked their location in San Clemente (sans customer service) and the food lured me back to this small local chain for my b-day weekend celebrations! Sol Agave is close to the Pier in Santa Monica, on Ocean Ave, a few minutes away from the bustle and hustle! The restaurant is big, we chose their outdoor patio with nice booth. I wish they would add more Mexican touches with their decor and I am not fan of TV-s in restaurants (you can watch TV at home, right?), the place is airy, modern and the tables aren't close to each other so you can get some privacy. Nice landscaping if you face Ocean Ave. Had to go with their Margarita flight, it is so good and great to share! I forgot how good their chips and salsa are! On top, they have a great bean dip, from the house! We shared the taquiza, 4 street tacos: asada, carnitas, shrimp and chicken that we had at the other location and enjoyed a lot! Very fresh, great variety. We continued with a plate of flautas-s, nice dish, great guac side! Glad we caught them during HH! They have a nice menu! For my b-day dessert I got their churros, they have some caramel sauce inside, they serve it with a sundae and some cinnamon sauce. I got a candle, a sparkle and a serenade! Very nice staff, from the hostess, to Ramon, our servers, everyone was kind, helpful, didn't rush us, brought water to us all the time, made sure we are OK without being annoying. Much better customer service here! The restrooms are nice, clean, huge, cool decor! Sol Agave is a solid choice for your modern Mexican inspired meal. Had a delicious dinner here tonight and our server Juan Marquez made the evening. His excellent hospitality, service and great personality really added to our first visit to the restaurant. The food was delicious and I was thrilled that they had gluten-free options for me. Juan was very conscientious about suggesting some great dishes and notating it for the kitchen, which is so important as a Celiac. We had yummy mocktails and fantastic octopus, as an appetizer. And I really enjoyed the carnitas, while my date loved his mahi mahi tacos. We definitely will be coming back and highly recommend checking it out! read more
Came with a group of friends visiting from NY. The restaurant is closed to Santa Monica Pier. We made reservation at 8:15 on Monday, the restaurant was not busy. The Margarita flight was amazing. We loved ordering flight because you can taste different flavors at once. The taste of Mexico was a bit disappointed. The portion was smaller than expected. But it did have a good presentation. We love the lamb. We couldn't find their own parking and parked in the next building which we thought was theirs as there was a parking sign when you passed the restaurant. They cannot validate parking if you park in the wrong structure. read more

I would recommend this place for apps and dessert (the butter cake is phenomenal). I wasn't a fan of the sea bass. Felt like the sauce was missing something. The service was very friendly but a bit slow. Nice restaurant set up over all. Very good margaritas. read more

Ahhhh! Love this place so much! Now they have free homemade Conchas during brunch!!! What a treat. Especially because I LOVE LOVE LOVE their coffee. It's so much like my abuela made it. With cinnamon and brown cane sugar. It's such a perfect combo. Atmosphere is always fantastic. Great vibes always. The service is professional and friendly. I always feel welcome. Also so appreciative of this team and that they do substitutions at brunch and are really attentive to my severe allergy. I do come here regularly and they already know when I show up. They take so much care here. It's the only place I trust to go to for brunch! read more

Great Mexican food! We love their octopus and sugar cane filets. Very authentic tastes. Only one downside is the kids salmon is a bit too salty. Other than that everything is great with Sol Agave! Took my boyfriend here on a Thursday night for his birthday. The parking situation was a little unclear, so we ended up parking on the street a few blocks away and walking over. We ordered a tamarindo margarita which tasted delicious. We had shrimp taquitos which were probably our favorite dish, as well as taquiza which was super loaded and phenomenal as well. We were super full from the taquitos and taquiza by the time the chef's special dish, Tacos de Hongo, came out. We ordered the cheese on the side without thinking and it was pretty silly of us to do so. This dish was not as special as I had hoped, but probably due to the cheese not actually being in the skillet. The food was all incredible and the server was friendly and helpful. The ambiance on a Thursday night was definitely post-work vibes, but there were a few families. An outdoor seating area exists and the interior is also pretty spacious. read more
First time trying the restaurant. Been wanting to come here for some time! Started with chips, salsa and bean dip. Bean dip is really tasty. I had a Tamarindo Margarita. It was excellent! My wife had Cafe de Olla. She like it too. The appetizer was the Pulpo a las brasas (octopus). Also good. It was tender and well seasoned. On to the mains. The Chile Verde was savory, spicy and had a satisfying tomatillo flavor. The pork was tender and juicy. The star of the show had to be my wife's seabass. Oh wow, it was better than most seafood restaurants I've been to in the last couple years. Worth getting, tender, flakey but firm, and really tasty! For dessert, I had the Tres Leches cake. My wife had buttercake with ice cream. Both were good, but large. Ended up taking 1/2 of each home Our server was super helpful. Overall, great experience. Tip: While there is underground parking, it is limited. We found a surface public lot on Main St., a block over that was easy and had a direct walkway to the restaurant read more

Reservation was at 8:30. Me and my partner arrived at 8:25 to a line out the door with no host in front, obviously they were busy. We were told to wait 30 mins for our table, despite having a reservation. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Sat down at 9 pm with a table that had nothing, despite all other tables being decorated for Valentine's Day.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I waved a waiter down, who told me to wait one minute. No waiter came to the table until we waved one down (after many more tries) 20 minutes later. We ordered and the food was okay, however the service was just unexplainable. The table to our right got 4 free shots as well (for the wait, im assuming) as a couple in front of us, but looks like the forgot about us. Reservation at 8:30 and didn't get to order until 9:20. Would not come back, disappointing to see other customers get treatment for the wait but not us. read more

The atmosphere is amazing, we was lucky enough to sit on the window side. So we was able to enjoy the view. The food was amazing very flavorful flavor. The alcoholic drinks were nice and strong. Plus the hostess was friendly and our waiter as well. read more
Sol Agave is our go to when we want margaritas! Their margarita flights are unique and tasty! From tamarind, watermelon, mango to cucumber, each had it's own unique taste! The food here has been good as well. My favorite is one we just tried recently which was the pork belly bites. Perfect ratio of fat to pork and cooked and seasoned well. I could have ate half the plate by myself! The ceviche was tasty with bits of octopus, scallops and fish. The calamari is also one of our go to dishes when we come. There is a good amount of calamari that is lightly fried and comes with two dipping sauces and a lemon. The restaurant is a nice place to have a family meal and relax. They do have TVs to watch games on and a bar area. Bathroom were clean and service was consistent. I will definitely be coming back again!! read more

Summary: Solid eats near the water, with an amazing flan Details: While I normally stick to Asian food during my SoCal trips, we were looking for nicer sit-down options near Santa Monica this particular day, and Sol Agave fit the bill nicely, and even more so with a nice, covered patio area. The food, unfortunately, is a bit tougher to rate: though we did enjoy the queso and salsas and chips quite a bit, nothing among their mains really stood out to us as good or bad, except the fish tacos, which were kind of lacking all around. However, we did have the best flan we'd ever tried in our lives, as marketed by our waitress herself, who really sold it, telling us it was not something the chef always had on the menu, and was a must-try whenever it does actually show up: rich, thick, and creamy, without being overly sweet, and nothing like that gelatinous/custardy/pudding-like stuff you'd find in most spots. Accessibility: Huge space with plenty of accessible seating options. read more

4.5 star worthy. Very tasty and unique entrees. We were super hungry and were happy to start with chips and salsa. The salsas were both good, one tomato based and one more like a bean dip. We shared the short ribs and the lobster enchiladas. The lobster with cheese and crème -- so yummy. And the short ribs had a nice flavor profile and light kick. Definitely recommend. read more

How's the parking?
There is a street with a small hill next to the restaurant. We walked up there and on that street, there were some parking spots that were available. It's not going to be that easy to park.
Do they have a kids menu?
I don't think so, but the restaurant is kid friendly, in the front patio
Is it Dog friendly?
We actually brought our dog and sat on the (enclosed) patio (in winter). They didn't say anything, but we later heard (from someone, I don't remember who) we shouldn't have done that.
Do they offer Taco Tuesday deals?
I have no idea, you have to Google the information on the restaurant
Do they do birthday treats, not a whole birthday song necessarily but small dessert with candles?
Yes they have some great desserts, and birthday candles if you request
Is there free parking?
No, however we validate a lower rate for 1/12 hour you only pay 2.75, our parking lot holds 50-60 cars
