This coffee house is close to my office and I wish I could be a regular but it doesn't make the cut. The shop itself is quaint, welcoming and comfortable. The service is great and the menu has a lot of options. Where they lose me in the morning is the bagels. I like to have a bagel and coffee. The bagels are store bought Zeppy's bagels and they are terrible. Why go through the trouble of offering breakfast sandwiches with organic eggs if your going to put it on a mediocre bagel? There are a number of bakeries in the area that could supply the Sol Bean with great bagels, such a shame. The coffee is quite good. The beans are roasted well so you don't get any off flavors or high acidity. I will be back for the coffee. read more

I came to Sol Bean for take out lunch. I ordered the chicken pesto panini and thai chicken curry soup. The soup was tasty, I've never had anything like it before. You can even find shredded coconut in the soup-- such a nice surprise! The decor is cozy and relaxing. The staff is helpful and patient as I peruse the colorful hand-written chalk menu. For those who are ordering take out, I highly recommend calling in to place your order ahead of time to reduce wait time. Just waited a half hour for BOTH of my sandwich orders to be wrong. A tofu Reuben was served to me as a turkey reuben. My husband ordered a falafel wrap and got something with tuna in it. We are both vegetarians. So disappointing I just asked for my money back and we will go someplace else for lunch!!! Never again!! read more

Sol Bean...Well it had that has that bohemian vibe down, I will say that. The coffee was ok I would say it was adequate, however I will say that there was a bit of pretentiousness from the women behind the counter. I did end up meeting a pretty scary looking biker friend of mine there for coffee, so the vibe from her might could have been from him...LOL (I'm laughing but serious) I thought the muffins where ok (I thought a little on the dry side but that could be due to some of the healthier alternative ingredients...I'm guessing on that) but honestly thats all I tried. This is a cute little spot near my doctor's office, and I was hoping for a good place to snag a latte before heading back down to Somerville. Sol Bean just didn't do it for me. I came in on a Thursday afternoon; it wasn't busy. Their counter staff are nice, but their latte is just not good. It's so bitter as to be nearly undrinkable. Their bagel sandwiches are also not great, they're on store-bought bagels (there are tons of awesome local bakeries you could use as supplier!) and there's a bitter-burnt flavour I couldn't quite place. I also tried their carrot cake, which was very dry, and the frosting was hard and so sugary it was almost gritty. Two stars for their staff, and their juices are tasty, but I don't think I'll be back. read more

I'm giving three stars because the customer service Wasn't great. As a first time costumer I was super excited to try it out. I walked in and stared at the menu for a good five minutes without one of the three people behind the counter asking if I needed any help. I had no idea what I was doing or what I could possibly order. I asked one of the workers is the smoothie I was going to Order was popular she she replied "ya" so instead of purchasing a full meal I got my smoothie and left. I went in here to get a salad and a smoothie. I got a garden salad with chicken on it and the chicken was like rubber with no flavor. I didn't like the texture of it. The smoothie was delicious, however this place is pricey. I also wanted to try the cocowhip and that was ok but the caramel sauce was yucky maybe because it was vegan. DELICIOUS! And not just because it's one of few restaurants of its kind in the area. Great wraps and treats! Some of my favorites are The Delightful wrap (with goat cheese, avocado, spinach, and pine nuts) and The Ole wrap (jack cheese, lettuce, tomato, avocado, black beans). For treats I love the Flax Bar and the Vegan Peanut Butter Rice Krispy Treats! It's a great environment with a nice patio for when it's warm, and cozy seats inside when it's not. It was my first time here at this establishment, but I really enjoyed it. I decided to pop in for a cup of coffee, but after seeing their very large menu, ultimately decided on getting a bowl of tomato and vegetable soup. I have to say I enjoyed the soup very much, and I was happy that the menu helped to get me to try a more healthy choice... The service was very friendly, and they even went out of their way to accommodate me. Kudos to them all! Here's the thing... it's really the only semi-organic, semi-healthy place around. So there's that going for it. And they have free wifi. And the coffee is good. But, it's not super clean, there are a gazillion people behind the counter but the service can be slow, and they don't recycle -- which seems nuts for a hippie spot. And it's pretty pricey. My friend and I are on a weird quest to try every smoothie place in Massachusetts. This is by far the best place we've been to so far. The Green Lotus was amazing. Oh Mylanta. I loved every minute of it. I was 20 minutes late to work once because I just HAD to have a Green Lotus. I had a Berry Bliss the first time I came here, pretty good, but the Green Lotus was the best smoothie I've ever had! 12 ingredients in a smoothie?! Very impressive. I've had the Jen's Fusion quinoa bowl. I wasn't as impressed, a little repetitive, not enough sauce, and the sauce was on the side in a little container. I understand some people would want it on the side, but I didn't do a very good job of mixing the sauce in myself, haha. I work down the street from Sol Bean, so I've been coming here weekly since discovering it. I've never tried anything here that wasn't fresh and filling... And maybe it's a placebo effect, but I do find myself feeling more energized after I consume their offerings. Could just be the buzz I get from dropping ten dollars on a juice... Almost anything on the menu can be veganized. They offer soy milk, almond milk, vegan cheese, and vegan protein powder. Very cool of them. Their açaí bowls have changed, they are more frozen and less smoothie-like, which I was disappointed about. They have a great menu though, the service is always friendly and great.
