Really impressive menu variety that boasts something for every type of eater. Even better, everything looked fresh and flavorful without compromising on nutrition! We LOVED this place. If you're trying to eat healthier but still want delicious food this is it. They have both meat and vegan options and we went broadly vegetarian with the Banh Mi Bowl with vegan chicken and the Chipotle Avocado and Lime Bowl with seasoned tofu. Both were fabulous. We also had a latte with soy milk but there were lots of different milk options to choose from. Parking is street parking or one of the nearby lots which is what we chose. It was pretty busy even in January so I'd be prepared to give a few minutes over to parking but it's worth it. You can order at the counter or through a kiosk. We tried the kiosk but oddly it doesn't seem set up to give you a receipt so I would order at the counter next time. The staff were very nice about following up to get me my receipt but I think they just need to configure the system a bit more. Whether you order at the kiosk or the counter you take a number and the staff will bring you your food. Everyone was friendly and helpful and the dining area spacious and comfortable. There are quite a lot of good things to choose from on the menu so it will probably be returning next time we're in Newburyport to try and test out a few other items. read more

Tried this spot the other day for the first time! So glad we did. The inside is very clean and spacious with plenty of tables. They also have a little area with couches and chairs. The menu has enough variety of savory and sweet for everyone. I decided to do the strawberry waffles. They came out within a good 15 minutes of ordering. You get 4 crispy, delicious waffles which come with real syrup. I love that they're GF as well! My coffee was excellent and my dad liked his latte (he's very picky with them). The fresh pressed juice is yummy too, they are $10 but the bottle is a good size. I will be back in the future to try everything else on the menu. read more

I hate to give this place a mediocre rating, but it didn't quite live up to my expectations. I've been to one of the other locations and I've had pretty good experiences there, but I felt like the flavor and cooking style of my dish here wasn't as good. A friend of mine got a breakfast sandwich, and I got a vegan pesto scramble bowl. Hers was smaller than expected given the price, and mine was pretty salty and overly oily. It felt like every ingredient had been like fried separately and oil, and it all just came together to feel very heavy. We went during lunch time and the tables were heavily used and probably hadn't had a chance to be wiped down yet too. The menu is so good so I'd be willing to give it another shot but this one was a Miss. read more

I will never be giving my business to NU Kitchen again. On June 30 I got an order of tacos from NU kitchen. I originally placed my order "for here" and then looked at the dirty seating options and asked them to change the order to "to-go". When I grabbed my food from an employee, I said thank you and she ignored me. Then I walked to the water and tried to take a bite of one of the tacos. It totally fell apart because of the amount of sauce and liquid that was in the taco. Because I did not think to grab a fork and knife for eating tacos, I was highly dissatisfied. I have eaten plenty of corn tortilla tacos that have not fallen apart. I called immediately to share my dissatisfaction and request a refund. The employee who answered was rude and told me that there was no manager in and took my information for a manager to call me the next day. I never got a call, so I called and there was no manager in. I called three days after and still did not speak to a manager, however apparently the employee that answered this time was able to give me a refund. Not sure why they had to waste my time three separate times when the day that I got the falling apart tacos, they could have given me a refund. Interestingly enough, I thought that they had lied about giving me a refund because it took 23 days for me to receive it. Overall, I found the employees to be rude, and it may benefit them to have a manager in the shop during times of serving customers (as most restaurants make standard practice). It's probably a fine place to eat if you are satisfied, however if you get food that you are dissatisfied with, don't expect it to be handled appropriately. Big thumbs down to NU Kitchen. read more

Nu Kitchen is a small chainlet of restaurants in Worcester, Somerville and now Newburyport, and you would compare it to veggie forward casual cafes like Life Alive which has taken over Boston. I wanted to like this place because I'm a huge fan of grain bowls but today it fell flat. We came on a beautiful Saturday around noon so pretty busy, I ordered the banh mi tofu bowl on the touch screen pad in the store, then grabbed a sticky wooden stick with a number and waited for quite a while at an unwashed table. (Lots of bored teen staff loitering around but seemed like they were all new/training?). The food was pretty good but heavy on pickled red onions and cucumbers, and if there was any tofu I couldn't find it. Hoping to return on a day when the place gets cleaned up and will try one of the other bowls. read more

This place is awesome! Came to Newburyport on Memorial Day for a day trip up from Boston and decided to check out this spot for brunch. Plenty of seating that we didn't expect since the back of the place expands pretty far! The decor is also super inviting, light, and aesthetic. We were really impressed by the ordering system since you can order up by the counter or put in an order with a screen yourself. We went to the self order screen and there were SO many options to customize your order (whether it's the milk in your coffee, or subbing out ANY ingredient from an item, or selecting vegan meat or milk options) I ordered an americano and the honey goat cheese and avocado breakfast sandwich: Iced Americano - 4/5 - I was happily surprised by how big their "small" size is and thought the coffee was just slightly acidic but overall pretty good! Honey goat cheese and avocado sandwich - 5/5 - this was SO yummy! When ordering, I could pick what bread and the ciabatta I picked was super fluffy and tasty. I subbed in Parmesan since I wanted a more stringy cheese and it was just that! The honey goat cheese was so tasty and not overpoweringly sweet, and the egg in the sandwich was perfect for breakfast! I wish I could have more Also, once we sat down we noticed that you can easily grab tap water and the cups that are provided are so cute (see pic)! Somewhat a Starbucks vibe, as you're not rushed out after dining and conversation appears to be as much on the menu as the food choices. I love how big the menu is at NU Kitchen! There are so many healthy and delicious options for any time of day. The space is big and open with plenty of seating. The person who brought us our food (to a table of 10) was so fun and nice! I had the steak and feta pita and it was so tasty. As a Persian, I really appreciated the addition of pomegranate mollases. Nice size eating area gives diners lots of room to enjoy themselves. While many eateries in Newburyport can be packed for dinner, NU Kitchen is less crowded which is fine with me. Food was tasty, and had many vegan and gluten free options, BUT our "experience" was terrible. This restaurant fell so short of expectations for basic decency and accessibility that I would never return. First, no handicap accessible seating: every seat/table is either "trendy bar-height" or slouchy soft couch-height. Next, upon using one of the two lavatories I discovered that the hand-dryer was broken...and there were no paper towels. So guests are expected to each grab the door handle with wet hands (what about sanitation?)? On my way out of the bathroom, I asked one of the food preparers if they were aware that the dryer is broken and there are no towels, and she said, "yes we know." Without any indication that they were planning to offer towels. A few minutes later, when my food was served, I had the same conversation with our server. She, too, said "yes, we know" and offered up that "someone is supposed to come fix it today." (This was at 1 PM; the restaurant closes at 4). I asked "what are people supposed to do in the meanwhile?" but she had no answer. She couldn't even suggest paper towels. This restaurant is trying so hard to be trendy that they have overlooked basic decency in their staff and amenities in their venue. I suppose they think that offering vegan and gluten free options exempts them from these basics. (Isn't handicap accessibility a requirement?) I'm glad they are not the only options for vegan, gluten free meals in the Newburyport area. My husband and I will never go back. read more

I stopped in here very recently for a quick takeout dinner. There were so many choices I wanted to try including their short rib panini, salmon BLT, banh mi bowl, and the harvest tofu scramble, but I eventually ordered the Curried Cauliflower Bowl ($10.99 plus tax) to go. I enjoyed my bowl out in my vehicle since I was on a break. The bowl was delicious and fresh which had kale, pickled carrots, onions, organic brown rice, quinoa, topped with a ginger dressing, curried cauliflower, dried blueberries, & almonds.
