Espresso martini
Arelis L.

We had gotten coffee down the street but wanted to eat something after our coffees. This place was fun. The decor is retro concert memorabilia. Gives diner vibes with tight tables close together. Staff was friendly and the owner made the effort to come to our table and greet us. The food was tasty and we tried their espresso martini which was really good!

Great service, excellent food with a Brazilian vibe, love the atmosphere. Breakfast offerings are superb.

Enjoying a meal at Heart and soul cafe!

We stopped here after the trip to castle hill. Their vegetarian burger was amazing with a crisp black bean patty - slow roasted for it to get crisp outside and stay soft on the inside. açaí bowl tasted fresh and natural with honey drizzle to notch it up. Bud, the owner walked by to greet us and I noticed espresso in his hands. I requested him to make us one and serve with steamed milk - result, a nice cup of South Indian filter coffee.

Fun hippy dippy cafe. Ate breakfast there while doing a tour of the historic homes in Ipswich. Wife had crab benny and I had fruit açaí with side of avocado and home fries. Hit the spot! Service was good too.

California chicken club and cappuccino

Stopped by for some lunch before the beach. Great vibes here, very beachy chill feel. Music was heavily 80's. Ordered the California chicken club and it was good but expensive. Two people and it came to $50.

Torta
Sophie S.

Very yummy tortas and hot chocolate. Super slow service though, probably because they're quite busy over the weekend with not that much staff.

Very slow. Had the kabob salad. Dried out chicken, diced incredibly small for some reason, small portion. Not worth the wait or cost.

And, well, I won't keep you in suspense but that first bite of the salted honey butter and jam biscuit was transcendental. It was a little crumbly but so chewy and moist, and the jam and honey butter combo was incredible. Indescribable. They have so many pastry options, as well as breakfast sandwiches, but I really had eyes only for the biscuits. Also tried the cheddar scallion biscuit - amazing. I'm running out of adjectives to describe how good these were. The key for super flaky, tender biscuits is using very, very cold butter and not mixing the dough too much. It was cool to watch people baking in the back kitchen. Got the quiche as well. Tasty, with a nice mix of egg and veggies and cheese, with a well-made crust, but next time I would just get more biscuits. Lots of free parking spots in front and nearby. There's little space inside the store, which makes the queue a bit unwieldy, but it does move quickly and it's well worth the wait (and the drive).

The bakery items are the stars of the show, though their gluten free option was one sad small almond cookie. They have brewed coffee, no espresso. They use beans from Portland, ME. The walls are lined with gourmet food products--some local, some not. There is not a lot of space so when there's a queue, it's a mess.

When you walk in, the place is beautiful- sort of modern rustic chic with beautiful string lights. We ordered mussels and wine to start. Mussels were fantastic. Meaty, flavorful and plenty for everyone. The entree is where it fell short for me. I got the shrimp pasta. While the flavor was there, when I cut into the shrimp they still looked pretty translucent to me. After eating one and cutting up a few others, I felt that they were undercooked. The waitress said they wouldn't cook them more but she could bring the plate back and ask if they were cooked through. My plate came back and I was told they were cook so I sat there pushing soft, nasty shrimp around my plate while just eating spaghetti. My boyfriend asked for a medium burger and it was definitely rare to medium rare. When this happens, generally you offer to bring out new protein cooked again or ask if the guest wants something else but I was just left to feel like I was nuts. Whatever, into dessert. Now for dessert, I thought we'd try the cookies and ice cream. cookies were completely raw ( not just soft) and also not hot and the ice cream on the plate looked like it was pre scooped and refrozen. While I loved the concept of this place. Relaxing getaway where you can just do it all onsite, I honestly would spare yourselves the experience of the restaurant or order fish and chips or fried chicken) and just dine in Newburyport.

What a disappointment this was. My husband and I were looking to try a new place for lunch and…read morehoped it would be good. No such luck. Although it wasn't busy, we waited quite a while even for beverages. When the waitress eventually took our orders, I asked for a cheese burger club sandwich, medium rare, add onions. My husband got a chicken parm sub. When we finally got our lunches, she served mine with no French fries, which I eventually received a few moments later. The burger on my club sandwich was so overcooked it was like a piece of shoe leather. There were no onions, and the minuscule piece of cheese didn't look or taste like cheese, but reminded me of a piece of curled up parchment paper. My husband's sub was fair but she forgot to bring him the glass of water he'd asked for and he had to keep asking for refills of his iced tea. Overall a dreadful experience when we had been looking forward to a tasty, quick meal. The first time we've ever been there, and also our last.
