Tried a new place for breakfast this trip! The ambiance is very groovy. Indoor and outdoor seating is nice! We had the bacon eggs Benedict.....I love a good Benedict and this one was decent. My issue was it came with homefries-- I don't eat much of these because it's a bit heavy for me, so asked to sub for something like fruit-- was told it would be an additional charge. At $15, I would have thought a sub would be OK, but instead I did not get anything.... just didn't want to waste potatoes! Service was a little chaotic but we made it through! Will most likely try another new place next time we're in town. read more

My order: GF Avocado Toast, GF scone The Review: The scone, legendary. It was a blueberry lemon, I believe, and I could not get over the fact that is was gluten free and so tasty. Forever in debt to them for inventing this scone. The avocado toast was pretty good and the portion was generous. It was loaded with tomatoes and feta and was genuinely so savory. The GF toast was really good as well, normal sized bread that was kind of like challah. Would totally come back. read more

Had breakfast recently at the H&S Cafe. There were 4 of us with each person having a cup of coffee. The breakfast food was very yummy and the service was very good. The vibe was fun, upbeat and energetic. While I loved the food I wasn't expecting a tab of $100 (incl. 20%tip) , .It was the most I've paid for a family of 4 anywhere for breakfast, including the NYC Metro Area and European cities. So, if you're here with several folks, expect to spend a few bucks. In summary, very happy with the food not so much with the bill. read more

We stopped here after the trip to castle hill. Their vegetarian burger was amazing with a crisp black bean patty - slow roasted for it to get crisp outside and stay soft on the inside. açaí bowl tasted fresh and natural with honey drizzle to notch it up. My family and I gad "Brunch" at the Heart & Soul Cafe on New Year's Day. 2024. Now that the end of the year is coming up, we are looking forward to going there again to celebrate the holidays. The owners were more than accommodating to our large group of 13 people, including children. Not only was the food fresh and delicious, the mimosas added a nice touch. The 4 children , ages 3-9 had a great time, loved the ambiance ( and special curtains near the bathroom), but especially enjoyed interacting with the owner, who also spent time greeting all the guests. Went for lunch and it was delicious. The server was so attentive and friendly. Also was dog friendly.

Very slow. Had the kabob salad. Dried out chicken, diced incredibly small for some reason, small portion. Not worth the wait or cost.

Warm and inviting with plenty of food choices, including gluten free. The music was really loud for some reason, but I did hear a waitress asking another patron if she wanted the music turned down. I only got a simple oatmeal, which was a bit too creamy for my liking (and it wasn't cooked thoroughly so the oats were more tough and hard than I expected), but my colleague liked the sausage and egg platter she ordered. The granola and fruit (berries) that came as toppings for the oatmeal were good. There were several people in the cafe, including a group of five, so it seems to be a popular place, which is always a good sign. I noted that they also had beer, wine, and "adult" coffee. read more

I've noticed over the years the portions have gotten much smaller, and the prices have gone up. 3 people for breakfast with no alcohol - $70. Omelet had about 2 eggs, a sliver of cheese, hardly any bacon. An aspirin capful of home fries, and the toast was one slice, really. Seems like Bidenomics has even affected the hippies!!! read more

My wife and I recently stumbled into the Heart & Soul Café on Central Street in Ipswich. It's not so much a restaurant as it is a time machine - if you're a certain age that remembers the 1960s and 70s (and my wife & I definitely are), particularly the music, then you'll feel like you've been whisked back in time. If the café was transported to Bethel, NY (the Woodstock festival site), it would be perfectly at home. Of course, you don't go to a restaurant entirely for ambiance; you go there to eat, drink and relax. And the food at Heart & Soul is absolutely amazing. We haven't tried everything yet (although we're working on it), but what we've had is consistently excellent, and you can tell Julie and Bud (the owners) are sourcing the best and freshest components for their offerings. If you want to immediately make your mouth water, go to their website (https://heartandsoul.cafe/), click on "testimonials" and watch the Phantom Gourmet and other videos. Do it on your phone, though, because half-way through you'll want to be heading to the car to drive over to the Heart & Soul for your first meal there. [It might be safer to Uber it - 15 or so minutes after you eat, expect the onset of a fabulous food coma!] But ... the last key ingredient to a meal at the Heart & Soul is Bud & Julie themselves. They are the most welcoming of hosts and the big reason why Heart & Soul has such an incredibly inviting atmosphere. We hadn't been there 5 minutes on our first visit and we felt like regulars, and it seemed like everyone that walked through the door was on a first-name basis with the owners and staff. My girlfriend and I were looking forward to having lunch at this establishment Monday, 8/2/2021. In fact it was right around 2pm when we walked in and was assisted by a young lady who seemed to be a new server. At that point she came over to us with menus and asked if we would like to be seated outside or inside, Another server walked over, looking annoyed and began speaking to the 1st server in a hushed tone (but still loud enough for us to hear) "You will need to tell them it will be at least an hour before they can be served and we close at 4pm" Looking around the place I observed tables available inside as well as outside. The 2nd server again began to speak to the 1st waitress, and I asked "An hour?" She barely looked at me and said "Yes". (Continuing to look annoyed) At that point my girlfriend and I declined to be seated and we left. 2 things: 1) With 2 hours left before the restaurant closed, why would the server even bring it up? Why not seat us, and explain there may be a delay because perhaps they were short staffed. Yet, no explanation. Apparently she prefers to drive business away, which of course is opposed to what I am sure the owner prefers. 2) The first server was pleasant. The 2nd one was unfriendly and had a bit of a permanent scowl on her face. I hope that this cafe reads this and understands that your employees should be championing your business. If they don't, you need to hire ones who will. I am more than willing to give anyone the benefit of a doubt, but this was our first, and last time at this cafe. Thank you. read more

I've only tried lunch here...and I just wouldn't go back. The table we were sat at hadn't yet been cleaned- one of us had a sandwich that came out wrong- so it went back in to be corrected- so I finished my sandwich before the other one even came out. Owner was a very nice man- but when he came to ask how everything was- we said well- we are still waiting for half of our food- and he just replied with "it'll be out shortly" but didn't even bother to check on anything. We had to ask for beverage refills and the check. It was just overall disappointing. And we had a panini that came on a bun- which is a weird bread to do a panini in- so the top part was more burnt. *disclaimer: this is a pandemic review and some of the problems today were directly related to being served outdoors -- the restaurant may be significantly better under normal circumstances, but I would wait until then to try it.* we had a short wait for a table and were seated outside at a table that rocked and did not feel socially distant from the others. We fought off bees and flies the entire experience. The pink lady mimosa was okay -- no real champagne taste or bubbles. The menu is online -- but is not updated as 2 out of the 4 items we ordered were no longer on the menu-- and the waitress gave me a hard time about finding it "wrong" through google even though I had gone through their website; she continued to have a bit of attitude through the entire service. The food took far too long to come out, and she came over (without us asking) to inform us loudly "there was absolutely nothing she could do." The food came out and was decent, but not worth the wait. The hash in my Irish Benedict was a overcooked, but the hollandaise sauce and potatoes were very good. Oh my goodness I could not be any more thrilled that I found this little gem. We were planning to go to the beach nearby but got too late of a start for parking, so we decided to have a brunch day instead. Yelp led us here! Everything was phenomenal from the food to the drinks to the service. An older man who we assumed was the owner was so attentive to seating everyone, and was extremely personable. The Mac and cheese was so unique, with almost a sweet note to it. Although the hollandaise was quite buttery (a bit broken) it was phenomenal. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. Everything is more than reasonably priced. Tucked in a cute town square as well. I hope to return to the area just to come back here! read more

Went there for the first and last time. Wanted the Cinnamon Swirl French Toast but they weren't serving it. We ordered latte's that came out luke warm at best. I ended up with the meat lovers omlette and it was just meh. Wife ended up with a BLT sandwich and it had a smudge of mayonnaise, We've had WAY better food elsewhere. Place was not busy and within 15 minutes our waitress brought our bill that we hadn't asked for as we were still eating. Just an overall BAD experience and will not be back. read more

Visited Heart and Soul after a walk at the Ipswich wildlife Audubon sanctuary. Was NOT disappointed! Food was amazing and service so friendly. The veggie bowl was delicious. Quinoa and roasted veggies with an aioli on top... yum! My friend got the fried chicken sandwich and it was excellent!
