I was visiting beautiful downtown Beverly and searching for a spot with great coffee and (fingers crossed) some gluten-free pastries. I found Crave through the Find Me Gluten-Free app, and the high ratings definitely lived up to the hype! It was just a quick, easy drive, and the bakery was easy to spot. Inside, it's super cute, clean, and welcoming. The menu was surprisingly full of gluten-free options--from breakfast sandwiches to coffee drinks--and their pastry case had about 8-10 different gluten-free and/or dairy-free goodies. I went with the blueberry lemon scone and WOW. It was unreal. Moist and cake-like (not dry and crumbly like many GF scones), with a light glaze and a perfect lemony-sweet flavor. I literally almost cried--it was that good. I savored every bite and was honestly glad I don't live closer, or I'd be there every single day. I also grabbed a cold brew, which they brew in-house and serve on tap. It was strong, smooth, and delicious--just how I like it. We did not have a good experience. First, the online ordering system leaves a lot to be desired. We were in the middle of placing an order and they shut down their online system for 15 minutes. So we waited. Two egg sandwiches, one croissant, a coffee with an espresso shot, a hot latte and a chai tea latte. Nothing unusual. Their system said the order would be ready two minutes after it was placed. That's just silly, so we waited 10 minutes before heading over. We arrived and picked up our bag with all the items listed on the receipt and headed back. Turns out, two items were missing that we had already paid for. We now headed back once again to Crave. We thought that maybe we forgot a bag, but no, they just failed to add two items and let us leave. "We tried to call you but your line was busy," was the answer, but that's simply not true. I wasn't on the phone and I have a cell phone -- busy signals do not apply. There was no record of an incoming call either. The attitude of staff was not apologetic whatsoever. A simple, "We're so sorry" would have sufficed. One of the items we had ordered was now out of stock. In fact, one staff member said, "You're the third customer today who didn't get their cinammon croissant," which only revealed the failure of their ordering process. With limited options, we chose the Nutella croissant as a substitute. Returned home and finally ate. One sandwich was delicious (bacon-egg-cheese on a ciabatta roll) but the other had sriracha instead of ketchup as requested -- made a big difference in taste which we did not like. The replacement pastry we were forced to choose tasted very stale and not so much of Nutella. Coffee with a shot and the latte didn't taste particularly strong. Iced chai latte was fine, but nothing to write home about. Not worth $54 -- including a tip for staff that we wished we could rescind. Would NOT return, especially not with all the breakfast options in Beverly. Hard pass. read more

However, if you are looking for fabulous baked goods, a tasty breakfast sandwich, or a good cup of coffee, then this is a great place to stop by. I go there mostly when I am looking to pick up things to go. I recently brought some blueberry muffins for a friend who had covid. They were very appreciative. I usually make a stop here at least once on my trips up. Their breakfast sandwiches always have a good flavor profile. Their drinks aren't anything special, maybe a bit sub par when compared to the delicious sandwiches. If you go on a busy day, double check your order (I've had bacon missing on one of their premade sandwiches :( ). There is some seating in side but I wouldn't consider it a food place to do work, but if you're just conversing with people then that place should accommodate. read more

They have freshly baked in-house croissants of many different flavors, and I stick to the same order--egg & cheese on a buttery croissant. I love their Breakfast Sandwiches. I wish they had more options without meat, maybe add tomato and spinach, but it's not a deal-breaker. They have delicious teas and lattes. My favorites are the Dirty Earl Grey and Dirty Chai Lattes. They also have a ton of different unique cupcakes if that's your thing. I tried them once and it was very good, but I don't eat cupcakes anymore. I could have sworn I reviewed Crave already. Shame on me for taking this long considering I've loved this place for months. While I wouldn't call myself a croissant connoisseur, Crave has the best croissants I've ever had. They have some great sweet flavors, like almond, Nutella, and raspberry and mascarpone cheese. Savory croissant flavors include ham and Swiss cheese. They also have rotating seasonal flavors, like pumpkin spice and birthday cake. The plain butter croissants are excellent on their own or used in a breakfast sandwich. I've only had the North Shore, which I highly recommend, and I want to try their others as well. I love their coffee and iced tea too. My favorite drink is the Dirty Chai, which is a chai latte with espresso. Delicious hot or iced. Customer service is always excellent. The interior is small but cozy. If you go early in the day you may not be able to find a seat. If you are fortunate enough to have the time and a place to sit, this is a nice place to relax and enjoy your food and beverage. Crave is an awesome breakfast/lunch spot. I had the Whole Hog sandwich: Sausage, bacon, prosciutto, over-medium eggs, Cheddar cheese & spicy herb ketchup, served on a toasted brioche bun and the tator tots with a matcha latte. The sandwich was great, though could use some more sauce (I added some hot sauce on the side which helped). It seemed like the restaurant was slammed with online orders - I am not sure how things are organized but there was a bit of a wait while the online orders were cranking out. Crave really lives up to its name. I crave these breakfast sandwiches and have to keep myself from getting one every weekend! Their gluten free herb and cheese bread is amazing. Even if you don't have to eat gluten free, try this bread. It's absolutely delicious! My favorite sandwich is the Northshore: eggs, maple bacon, maple aioli, cheddar cheese. All of their sandwiches are 100% customizable, so I always get this on the aforementioned GF bread. My husband loves the Crave sandwich and adds prosciutto. The Boursin cheese/pepper jelly combo on this sandwich is great. We usually grab a couple of cupcakes to go. Cupcakes rotate seasonally and we haven't had a bad cupcake yet. They're all gluten free, but these aren't your typical GF baked goods. They're moist, fluffy, and full of flavor. I bet you can't even tell that they're GF. Drinks are also fantastic. If you're a fan of chai tea lattes, try theirs. If you need an extra pick me up, order a dirty chai. Crave gets busy on the weekends, so order ahead on their website. My sister recommended that I visit Crave, and I'm glad she did. This cute little cafe is super popular, with lines forming before the doors even open on the weekends. You will be waiting--my order took longer than it did for me to drive there are back, and I live in the neighboring city, so...yeah. It's small, so you if you don't get there early, you likely won't be able to get a seat. However, the staff is incredibly friendly. I loved my nitro cold brew and the caramel latte was amazing. I appreciate that I can get an egg-free breakfast sandwich (fluffy pita with bacon, avocado, cheddar, and pepper jelly), and it was delicious. I also got two cupcakes, and those were the only bad thing. They were dry with no flavor. I also asked if one had cream cheese frosting, and was told no, but it did. So definitely skip the cupcakes. I know others really like them, but we threw them out, that's how bad they were. It's a fantastic place for coffee and a breakfast sandwich, my two favorite things, so I highly recommend going to Crave. read more

Holy cow this place what a find! This is an adorable little Cafe in Salem with lots to offer! I got the bacon egg and cheese with maple syrup sandwich on croissants and it was absolutely delicious! For a side I tried their lemon blueberry scone also fantastic! I got an iced coffee to go with a delicious fresh taste and yummy flavor shot. This was in the top three best meals we had on our trip to Salem! We were staying in Beverly so this was the closer location, it is also open more than the one in Salem. Everyone that worked there was super nice! It's a small menu but the build your own makes it pretty easy to find something for everyone to eat. Sounds pretty basic right? But they added MAPLE AIOLI. I was apprehensive about the mix of sweet and savory because usually I like to keep my pleasures separate, but it really worked and made all the difference. The bacon was thick and substantial and the eggs were so fluffy! At $8 it is pretty pricy as far as breakfast sandwiches go but I think it's in my top 5 and I will definitely be back again. I had seen Crave on gluten free social media for quite some time, so we went for the first time two weeks ago. I just knew they had gf breakfast sandwiches, but I was not prepared for the very high quality of ingredients and HUGE selection of gf baked goods, including cupcakes and scones. Their sausage, egg, provolone and avocado (my fave combo) on homemade gluten free herb and cheese pockets is truly something special. It's HUGE and delicious. Also, I have to say that I absolutely love the coffee. My pet peeve in some artisan-style places is the sour/bitter coffee. Not here. My iced latte was super smooth; the espresso was almost sweet, but in a good way. Just incredible.
