I had a great first impression of Alex and he explained everything to me as this was my first time picking out new flooring. I chose him based on his professionalism and the time he spent walking me through everything. In addition, we had a tight time frame for install before our movers arrived with our belongings, and he promised he could finish before the movers arrived. Unfortunately, that didn't happen. Not only were the behind schedule, but there was an error in the amount of flooring that was delivered and they were short about 400 square feet. So, they had to put down temporary flooring in our kitchen until more arrived, not to mention this was all happening AS MOVERS WERE UNPACKING OUR FURNITURE. It was the most frustrating day. When the materials were in nearly a month later, I spend another frustrating day waiting for them to finish. Overall, the quality of the flooring is wonderful and I would recommend them hands-down for just the floors and attention to detail. But the customer service ended up being too painful to deal with...my husband basically had to stalk Alex about when the rest of the materials would be in so he could finish our floors, and basically had to coordinate everything himself and push Alex constantly to get his guys back to finish it when they were already weeks behind when they said they'd be back. Contractors are always horrible with scheduling....but I honestly couldn't believe the lack of professionalism with this crew. Our floors are stunning though, they completely changed the house's look in the best way. That's where the stars are coming from, and that's why they didn't get 1 star only. Over the next couple of months, we had gone to their showroom in Vacaville and were almost overwhelmed with the options available. We went to Solano Hardwoods to get a secondary quote from various other contractors. The experience was great! Quoting: The quoting process went very smoothly. Although the price for materials was higher than other venues, the labor costs worked out that the prices were comparable. Additionally Alex explained why it would be more beneficial to buy through them, in case of any material problems. It was also immediately apparent that the company had a passion for flooring and it wasn't just another job. They provided suggestions on what would look good within our budget. We picked some great looking tile floors. Installation: This is what set Solano Hardwood above the rest. We were trying to make a tight timeline for our installation (before thanksgiving). Alex worked with us to get the material in and the job done before thanksgiving. The communication was well maintained here as there was a lot of back and forth in last minute scheduling. When the crew came to demo the floors, they noticed some cracking in the foundation. Even though we had tight timelines, the crew brought to our attention that the tile would not be the best choice long term (this to me showed the cared about our floors, and didn't just quickly finish the job to meet timelines). I was on the phone with Alex and went into the shop to choose a new floor material (LVT) that would float above our foundation. Since we ordered the material through them (per Alex's suggestion) they were able to reroute the tile and get in the LVT within days. The crew then came and installed the floors and still met our original timeline! If that's not great customer service I don't know what is! Final Thoughts: This company doesn't only care about getting the job done, but also doing the job exceptionally well as if it was their own house. Such a great flooring company! I researched 4 different flooring companies before deciding on Solano Hardwoods. I even asked for advice from my neighborhood on Next Door and quite a few people raved about Solano Hardwoods but they were a little pricier than others. I did a little price shopping on the materials we wanted because Solano Hardwoods was willing to do the installation, if we had our own materials. Luckily, they offered to do a price match on our materials, so they handled the entire project, without us having to order our own materials. The thing that stood out about this company was that they use the same, consistent, expert installation team. Other companies seem to contract out to whomever is available. The fact that Solano Hardwoods has a trusted, professional, reliable and highly rated team to do the work, really impressed me. The owner, Alex, came to our home, to take measurements and he was very personable and professional. He suggested that I go to the showroom to look at samples which I did the next day with Greg, who was really great. I really liked that they allowed us to check out some samples to take home, which was really helpful in selecting the color. We already knew we wanted the Paradigm Luxury Vinyl Planks, which were 100% waterproof since we were planning to cover our entire downstairs which included a kitchen and bathroom. They are usually booked about a month out, but we were super lucky and were able to get an installation date a week later. I paid 50% in advance and then paid the final balance after the project was complete, and I think it is important to note that they held true to their quote price, so we knew exactly what to expect. The installation team completed the installation of almost 650 sq ft in one day and then returned the next morning to reinstall our baseboards. We couldn't be happier with how everything turned out! I highly recommend Solano Hardwoods and the LVP we selected. Every staff member we encountered was professional, kind and knowledgeable. The fact that they use the same team for every job, had a great reputation, could schedule us a week out, price-matched the cost of materials, and got the job done as promised were all the reasons we decided to go with Solano Hardwoods. read more

My husband and I contacted multiple local companies for quotes for tear out of tile/ carpet in our home and installation of new flooring. Of the 8+ companies we contacted, Solano Hardwoods was by far the most expensive by a few thousand dollars compared to all of the rest. When I went into the store to return the flooring samples we borrowed, Alex (one of the owners I believe) approached me to ask about what our decision was. I was honest with him and told him that we contacted multiple companies and Solano Hardwoods was the most expensive, so we decided to go a different route. He boasted about the number of Yelp reviews and pictures this company has compared to local competitors. He tried to explain that the people who perform the installation have been doing this for x amount of years so they should be fairly compensated for their work and experience. Isn't that the case with other companies as well? When I made it apparent that I already decided not to proceed with his company solely due to price, he asked for the quotes and pricing of the local competitors. I asked him for the best price he could do the work and he was unwilling to state a number unless I gave him the numbers I received from other competitors. As he knew that I was attempting to leave, he tried to continue the conversation by trying to show me videos. I was not there to bargain on the price, as I have never worked with this company and personally do not know the quality of their work. If he really thought he was giving me a fair estimate, he would have given me the lowest number they would have been able to perform the work and fairly compensate their employees without me providing quotes from local competitors. This company obviously will give you a higher bid hoping you will take the bait. If they know you are shopping around, they will ask for the quotes from other companies to see what's the highest they can get you to pay for them to perform the work. For anyone who decides to work with this company, shop around before settling on the price. There are plenty of other local competitors who will offer a great price/ quality for their work. read more

We just completed (May, 2018) a major renovation involving several contractors due to flooding damage to an entire floor of our house. The General Contractor seemed unable or unwilling to help us with our flooring choices. I think sometimes they get in a rut and only like certain sub-contractors and certain vendors. The General Contractor was stuck in a rut with all the fake looking "hand scraped" matte finish varieties that, at least to me scream "laminate!" Our insurance allows us to cash out in this situation, so we went shopping. We came across Solano Hardwoods and I couldn't be happier with the result. Even though it might have been easier to just let the GC do the job, we wanted what we wanted - smooth laminate from an eco friendly manufacturer with a sheen similar to a real hardwood floor. Solano Hardwoods can handle any kind of installation because they have real employees. I am going to try to attach a photo, which may not really do it justice but I hope you can get an idea of the rich look we received. Had laminate installed in my family room/kitchen and living room and tile in the entry/hallway/bathroom. Also had new baseboards and crown moulding installed. Everything was going good until they installed the baseboards and crown moulding. I'm pretty sure we were told that they were primed and painted. We noticed that both of these items were only primed. I brought it to the attention of the owner, Alex, and he stated that he told us they were only primed. I think I would have remembered him telling me they were only primed, I would have put a painter in my budget. I'm thinking he thought we wouldn't notice it was only primed. They left holes in my baseboards where they nailed it to the wall and some of them were not aligned properly. The owner stated that he had to charge us an additional $190 for some miscellaneous items. We told him that we were not going to pay the additional money since we were already spending almost $9K for our floors and I have to hire a painter to paint my baseboards and crown moulding. At this point, they had only installed half the tile in our entry/hallway/bathroom. His tile subcontractor was supposed to come back the next day and finish the work. The next day came and that's when the owner showed up to our house early in the morning and we told him we were not paying him the additional money. That must have really ticked him off and before we knew it, he stated that his tile guy was not going to finish our house today because they had an emergency at another house. They left us with a dusty, unfinished floor and no bathroom for 3 whole days. Did I mention that we have a 4 month old baby and I'm handicapped and can't get around too well so not having a downstairs bathroom or a floor I can walk on was really a burden. They finally finished our entry/hallway/bathroom 6 days later from when they started. I would definitely not use them again. For the amount of money I spent, I am not 100% satisfied with the work. Your money would be better spent elsewhere. P.S. His tile subcontractor, J&S Tileworks, was wonderful. I would definitely recommend them! read more

Came here off a recommendation. Checked them out on yelp and saw good reviews. So, what could go wrong?? I went and checked out the show room and they do have quite the selection. Picked out what I wanted and decided to use the credit card instead (my spider senses kicked in) and I was told there was a $50 fee for using a credit card. ok well I'm already spending a few thousand, what's $50 more?? Then middle of the transaction the fee changed from $50 to $25?? Ok, sure. I never got a receipt or invoice so I asked for one and was told it would be sent via email (never happened) and my product was scheduled to come in 7 days, great! 7 days later, no phone call. So I called 10 days after the transaction and was told they didn't know where my floor was. The employee said he would call Alex and have him get a hold of me. 14 days later... nothing!! Called back and they were still clueless, asked for my invoice and I said, "Well..you never gave me one." So same thing, Alex was supposed to get a hold of me and nothing... over 3 wks later, I called back and still nothing. By this point, I had enough!! I called my credit card company and cancelled the transaction. No returns, no refunds, right?? Not in my book. The only reason I gave 3 stars is because a few days later, guess who reached out? Alex. I told him how disappointed I was with this whole transaction and how it pushed me back on my home renovation and I was expecting a better experience especially since I was recommended by several people to come here.
