I got a set of acrylic nails here and OH MY GOSH I LOVE THEM!!! I got them done by Hu Yang (I'm so sorry if I just butchered your name). She was very sweet and focused on each nail to make sure it was to my liking. I showed her a reference photo of what I wanted (1st pic) and she looked at it for not even two seconds and got it perfectly. Went to Solar Nails based on recommendation from a friend who has been there for 10 years. I used to get my nails done all the time but then started using the press on "Kiss" nails to save money. My nails never got air and literally would not grow. I'm sure these are fine for one time event but not long-term use as you can see from my photos. I was impressed by the care that Lee gave me and worked hard to clean up the damaged nails. She gave me good suggestions and made the material a little thicker so they don't break and can heal. This place is GREAT! I needed to get my nails done before the A's played the Twins the next day in Minneapolis and this place was located right by my friend's house. I thought my friend was just going to drop me off but to my surprise, he came in with me and joined me in a manicure. We weren't even 10 minutes into our manicure and he said to me, "let's get a pedicure too" and I am so glad we did. For the cost I was amazed by how much we got with it. Massage, scrub, mask - my feet left there feeling amazing. The people working here were so kind as well. I wish this salon was near my house instead of my friend's! Refused to honor and old Groupon despite the Groupon guarantee of never expiring that is printed right on the coupon. Waited 20 minutes even though I had an appointment. If I could give this dump a 0, I would! Had acrylic nails on for New Years and my nails were ruined. It's now end of Feb. and my nails are still very unhealthy. I stopped in here yesterday for a regular manicure and specifically asked if the technician was good at cuticles. " oh yes". Her name was Kathy and she barely spoke English. She had no idea how to do a manicure. No push back of the cuticles, no cuticle cream. Could barely file my nails. Seemed rushed but I was the only one in there. So disgusted. Never will I return! First timer at this nail salon. And likely last time... I've been to dozens of nail salons such as this and was really disappointed in this one. I had a gel manicure done by an older woman. It felt rushed, was sloppily painted, and lines aren't straight. Cuticle work was good but overall it looked like the at home Gelish manicures I do on my own. This is the place I go to when I'm in town. My mother is a regular. My sister and I received a gift certificate from my mom for a Pearl Pedi. I am currently stationed in California and when I come home we always go to Solar nails. Unfortunately when I came back recently I guess the gift certificates expire 6 months after they are purchased. The woman told my mom she wouldn't except the expired gift certificates. So now my mom just waisted $90. We have always been loyal customers that have tipped well. I will never go here again and neither will my family. By far the BEST gel manicure I have ever received. The technicians here are so kind and engaging. My manicure lasted the full two weeks and would have lasted longer had I not munched my finger in a drawer. If you want a manicure and/or pedicure from this place don't go!! Especially don't go if they have few staff in the place and they are busy!! Even if they aren't busy they still don't do a good job. That plays into how your service will turn out. I have been here several times and stopped going previously cuz of the same issues I recently had. I decided to go back this last Tuesday to give them another try and wish I hadn't. I went in with my daughter for a manicure and pedicure for an upcoming vacation and just had them do basic polish and an upgraded pedicure for both of us. They didn't apply the polish evenly and smoothly, they left your nails on both your fingers and toes jagged and very short, and finally they left our cuticles a mess. Not to mention the service provided was horrible but they charged me more than what their posted prices are in the salon. The over charge wasn't a small one, it was over $10 more than it should have been. Overall, it was a disappointment that I gave them another shot and this was the worst service to date yet and it cost me more than it should have. Find another salon to spend your money at that takes their time and appreciates your business as well as treats you fairly and honestly. read more

I have been going to Solar for about eight years, even after having moved out of the Prior Lake / Savage area. I used to have pink & white gel nails constantly for about the first six years, then switched to gel manicures. This place USED TO BE the crème de la crème of nail salons South of the River; not too expensive (not cheap either though), always did a phenomenal job, could almost always get you in, and made the experience relaxing and enjoyable. NOT ANYMORE. Since the new owners have taken over this place is the pits. With or without a Groupon, I have done both, the only thing consistent is quality, or lack there of. I have gone with multiple friends, hoping that it was just the manicurist that I had, yet we have ALL have gotten the same results. Rushed, unprofessional, streaky & chunky manis / gel manis / pedicures, horrible nail shape (mine were perfectly squared and ready to be painted prior to coming in and she chopped them to the nub and slapped some gel on them, without regard to where the actual nail existed, leaving that homely "I let my three year old paint my nails and haven't had time to fix them in weeks" look before even leaving the salon. Only days after my gel nails have all started to peel away at the sides and the tips. Don't waste your time or money... If the (Groupon or otherwise) deal seems to good to be true, it definitely is. read more

Never again! I bought a groupon for a gel mani and a deluxe pedi. The entire thing was rushed- and just 4 days after, my fingernails and toenails have chipped and look terrible! I'll never again waste my time or money at this corner-cutting "salon". I chose a dark color on my nails and the tech did such a terrible job, it looks like I painted them myself after a few glasses of wine. There was no manicuring of the cuticles or skin around the fingernails. As for the pedicure- my feet are still dry/rough and the polish is rubbing off- which is so weird to me- I've never seen that happen before. I'll never go again- and I wouldn't recommend to a friend or anyone! There are PLENTY of other nail places around the area- avoid this one! read more
