My new go-to gun store. First thoughts as I walked in was it was clean and very neatly kept which is always a plus. I visited this establishment sometime last week in search of my first a-r and not only are these guys helpful but they are respectful and cool to shoot the sh!t with. (No pun intended) lol. I will be back just for the customer service as a lot of the gun shops I been to lack the decency to even greet you when you come in, let alone if you have a question to ask. Solar Tactical in Livermore is the best gun store I've ever been to. I went on my own and they were so helpful, respectful & informative. They weren't pushy, rude or belittling. Loved them! Helped me feel comfortable shopping for my first gun on my own, prepared me for the test and offered me amazing training opportunities at their private facility in the Livermore hills. They price match so I was able to purchase the gun I've been wanting, a walther p-22. Perfect gun for my little hands. Leaving this sat early in the am to go train in a private location by a few Marines. 1-4 teacher student ratio and I get to learn in a comfortable setting.Really happy about this place. I purchased a small part at the store a little while back that ended up being defective. They saw the defect and exchanged the part no questions asked when I brought it back. This store is amazing!! I was looking for my new go-to gun store having just moved back to the bay area and I found it! These guys are experts in their field and they have been so accomodating and friendly with any questions I presented to them. I walked in knowing very little about my next purchase for a Yugo Zastava N PAP. They took the time to thoroughly explain after market parts, pros and cons against other models, and provided excellent customer service as a first time customer. I have found my experience here to be amazing, these guys are passionate about shooting and they listen to you. I will be giving them more business as I have recommended them to all my buddies. a few friends and I received a recommendation to visit this store. First off google maps is off on the locationh. I called the shop and they said go back a block and you will find the store. Very very courteous on the phone!! Upon walking in we were greeted by several staff members who did not hesitate to let us view and handle the weapons. They were nice and informative providing information on legality of the weapons and even making suggestions for us. Their entire staff was extremely helpful and dealt with us even though I had a special friend who kept on referring to call of duty.... they also shared with us they have great training courses and did not pressure us at all. Usually have a good selection considering the horrible CA restrictions. I like the family ownership and conversations I usually have with the workers. It tends to be pretty busy here but that is a good sign. So plan extra time for your visit. read more

I found my go-to gun store. It is called Solar Tactical. I have made several purchases from this place and every time I go in, I walk out feeling great. The prices are fairly competitive and the staff is super friendly. To me, that is very important in a gun store. It seems like most gun stores I go into these days have some grumpy old fart behind the counter who makes you feel like you are wasting his time by being there. This is NOT the case at Solar Tactical. I have dealt with several employees, including the owner and they are all really solid guys. Do yourself a favor and check this place out. I have other gun stores that are closer to me but I still make the drive to Solar Tactical because I have had such good experiences with this place. read more

Their inventory is awesome. This is usually what makes a great shop. However Solar's staff is their best asset. Extremely knowledgable AND helpful to those that need assistance. Most shops are condescending and arrogant if you aren't sure what you would like or need. The staff at solar will provide you with expert assistance and patience to make sure you have the best customer service experience. To go even further you can sign up for one of their training classes and they can continue to help you outside of the store. Hands down the best gun shop in Northern California. Save yourself the headache and don't take your guns to get repaired there or scopes mounted because the gunsmith sucks ass he scratched my new rings on my brand-new rifle on my Leopold scope you could tell he does not know what he's doing. And he stripped a screw on one of my rings on my new rifle Ruger 1022 I give them one star because they returned $25 because the striped my rings. They're a bunch of nice people but their service sucks! read more

My first time coming to this place , as soon as you walk in the staff greets you with a hi and a smile.Staff very knowledgable and friendly , this place puts you at ease unlike most gun shops out there where the staff makes you feel uneasy.The best part of my visit was that I got to haggle and save some money.Their ammos are really cheap compare to most shops. Just left the store about 2 hours ago where I made my purchase of my polish AK. I dealt with Zach and I couldn't have asked for a better buying experience. This is my first AK and when I first in 2 weeks ago, met Zach and talked to him about the rifles, I realized how little I know. He shared a world of knowledge with me just to get my feet wet into this area of firearms. Over the last 2 weeks since then I did my own research on what to look for and sure enough everything I learned from other sources was consistent with what he told me. So fast forward to today. When I decided on my rifle I asked him to have his gunsmith in the back check the headspacing on it just to minimize the possibility of me having to send the rifle in to the manufacturer for warranty issues (which is a pain in the ass). He made all the hoops that this socialist state makes us jump through just to buy a gun painless. When he finally was ready to run my card to pay for the firearm he realized he got the price wrong with me over the phone this morning (it was really 100 dollars more than he said). I reminded him of what he said this morning and he instantly adjusted the price for me without so much as a bat of an eye. That sealed it for me. This place is fucking awesome. Zach is a great business man, a helpful and knowledgeable gun enthusiast; and although I don't know the rest of the staff on a name basis, they were also very pleasant and helpful. I'm very interested in taking their training classes as well. Especially in this shithole of a state, I feel lucky to have a tactical-heavy gun store that specializes in AK variants just over the Altamont from my house which also happens to be on my way home from work. Can't wait to go pick up my gun once California is done doing its little BS. They can be super busy depending on the time and day you go in, but be patient you will be well taken care of and you will leave a happy customer. read more

I've been to many gun shops in the bay area, and Solar Tactical is the best gun shop hands down. Customer service is amazing you walk in and you're greeted immediately which is un heard of in other gun shops. I've bought a gun from here and was amazed at the knowledge of everyone working there. When I bought my gun I had in mind what I wanted, but then I talked to Les, and I ended up buying something a little better than I originally planed. I have a couple of friends that are getting into shooting and are new to the sport, and Solar Tactical really helped them pick out a gun for all of their needs. If your a newbie getting into guns as a hobby or sport go ahead ask these guys questions; to them no question is a stupid question. These guys also offer a safety class for those who are interested. the trainers are ex military with lots of experience. I called this place about a sig sauer i was interested in and the guy on the phone said they could order it and it would cost $1250.00 plus background plus tax = $1400.00 I asked him if I ordered it myself from somewhere else what the transfer fee would be and he said they wouldn't do that I've never heard such sh.. I ended up getting the same exact gun online and going threw Tracy pistol and rifle the best place ever and im getting it for $950.00 out the door!!!!! $450.00 less than Livermore there a rip off ill never step foot in this place!!!!! read more

Was looking for a good local store for my firearms needs and Solar Tactical did not disappoint. I used to go to Southern California to purchase my rifles. I am pleasantly surprised I need to only go to Livermore with Solar Tactical. Great service and awesome collection of firearms. Bought a KSG from them on sale for an awesome price from Eddy and Zach from the store even installed an aftermarket muzzle brake that I bought online. Service was so good my friend bought his first hand gun from them and another will as well. read more

I first met Michael almost 2 years ago at a gun show, sold me a few magazines and had a great attitude, explained everything in detail, didnt "rush" or push his sale. He had probably the last remaining MP 15 .22LR mags at the show and could have raised the price but didnt, in fact he gave me a discount on them. Been buying from him ever since then at different shows when I need items. The shop is a must visit - on all levels. His store is neat and well organized, the employees all carry a great attitude, courtesy, vast knowledge, and will explain everything in detail and seem to have his sales philosphy/style. Pricing is great on all items and has a great selection on both parts and firearms. Solar Tactical doesn't have the "gimic" items, everything I saw in the shop were quality parts, not the cheap immitation/knock off items. It's an hour+ drive for me and I'll gladly make the trip to shop here. read more

Called solar tactical looking for pink sound deadening headphones. They said they had them so I drove from Tracy to pick them up. After waiting 30 minutes for service and customers coming in after me and being held. I finally had to speak up and ask for help To top it off they didn't even have the headphones I should've drove to bass pro shop. Customer service was horrible read more

Wow the guy from Tahoe sounds like his mommy makes his lunch. This shop is Dialed in, Top notch. Just completed another training course. It was Phenominal. I witnessed two shooters who had never fired their ARs. They were scoring hits at 300yds by the end of the day. It's the patience and professional demeanor of the instructors that allow this to happen. The training offered is great because it's uses your primal instincts and natural body mechanics to assure hits. If you keep an open mind and follow the instruction you will be amazed. As for prices and lines, If you want cheap junk you should probably stick to the Xbox. This is a serious shop for people who want quality gear that works when you're life depends on it. read more

Solar Tactical is a great family-run environment with a healthy selection and great customer service. I've been here more times than I can count, making purchase after purchase. The staff here is always inviting and willing to help. Matt and Scott are the heads for their training courses, which I also highly recommend. No sense in buying a firearm to defend yourself if you don't know how to properly use one in my opinion. On to the bad stuff. With single shot exemptions coming to an end, the lines are long regardless of what time you come. Its a temporary issue, but not a positive thing none the less. Actually, I think that's the only issue I have ever had. These people work hard and long hours, so be positive and have fun. Drew, Zach, Kevin, and Mike all enjoy a good laugh. And cookies, except Kevin, bring him an eggroll. Anyway, if you are near by, take a look at what's available. Their options are vast regardless of what you prefer, except shotguns. There are a few, but not a dramatic selection in stock, but orders can be made. read more
