Our large group had lunch here on a Wednesday in late November. The outdoor area is very nice. Tables are spaced well, and we were seated at a table, mostly in the sun. The french onion dip was a good start to lunch. The pear salad and chicken caesar were very fresh, as was the fish tacos, and lobster roll. The cheeseburger was good, too. Our only problem was service. Lunch for the six of us took over 2 hrs...it was almost one hour between the salads and dip and our entrees. We also had to keep trying to flag down our young server because we got pretty thirsty, sitting in the sun for 2 hrs. Fix that, and it was a great lunch. read more

My friends and I came to this restaurant while visiting Calistoga and enjoyed our lunch outside near the pool. I had the grilled shrimp lettuce wraps and they were very fresh and had great add in's to layer in the wraps and a wonderful sauce to top them off. The glass of Gruner Veltlin wine was a great paring. Even if you are not staying at the resort (we were not) a visit to the restaurant is a great idea. read more

Recommended to us by our B&B, we arrived at this beautiful location next to a hotel/spa and were impressed by the decor and beautiful outdoor seating area. We got a great corner table to really take it all in. It was a beautiful day, so we all sat outside in the crisp-but-sunny winter air. For food, I had the golden beet salad with green goddess dressing to start. This was divine -- perfect, mild flavors and creaminess, with crisp root chips to top. Beautifully presented and truly delicious. Also tried the tuna poke, which was a little strong for my taste, but still very good. For my main, I had the grilled trout over quinoa. The trout flavor was stronger than I am used to, but I enjoyed the overall dish a lot. The steak and fries that my sister got were amazing. The fries are to die for and a great share. The bites I had of the carnitas and fried fish tacos were good. Service was very friendly, though a little slow on our Saturday lunch. Nonetheless, they worked hard to make sure we had a good experience and that we were happy with our food. Would come back to try more foods! read more

Outstanding meal. The Dungeness Crab - Onara served inside the shell was over the top. The new Som, Louise Olivares, suggested two half bottles....a Sancerre for the Rockfish w/ Mussels and Clams (my wife is still talking about it), and a Grenache to go with my pork schnitzel (which literally hung over the sides of the plate and was dotted with an amazing apple puree)....Perfect. Sol bar Yes I'm scale restaurants with wonderful food, and it was just cocktails. However, several of the seating locations do not offer a heater, and it can be quite cold at dinner. this made dinner uncomfortable, at the same time they were about 20 heaters not in use, we were unable to use, Because they were reserved for other tables. I would humbly suggest either having enough heaters for all your tables, Or communicating on the reservation, that the table will be without a heater. So that one can dress appropriately. This combined with the $50 reservation break fee, put us in a bit of a bind. :( Again food was wonderful. But be sure to bring warm clothing, and be prepared to be without the heater read more

Food was delicious.... service was ok ( thus the 4 stars) but went downhill when we couldn't find our waiter toward the end and had to keep asking others for things or the check. The place has an inside/ outside to eat - in the past we have eaten outside which is a bit more casual. Inside was decorated nicely & with all the doors open had the best of both worlds. Fantastic place for lunch or brunch. I have eaten here a few times, and never been disappointed... nice atmosphere (both indoors and outside) that somehow feels cozy and casual while still feeling luxurious and upscale. The food is all well-prepared and a nice balance between comfortable and recognizable combined with some innovative twists. Last time we came, it was a perfect stop after tasting at a couple of wineries, and between our party of 6, we ordered lots of different things on the menu, and every dish was excellent. A little on the pricier side, but really not too bad at all (especially by Napa Valley standards), and well worth it. read more

We stopped for cocktails this week on a cold day waiting for our room to be ready so we chose to sit indoors at the bar. Our bartender made the best, most beautifully adorned drinks, an Old Fashioned and Amaretto Sours. Didn't love the whiskey I chose (house) but certainly not his fault. The Sours were delicious but drinks were close to $20 each, at that price expectations were high but 100% met. Will definitely stop by again next time we are in the area. read more

Went here for a wedding anniversary lunch after wine tasting at Chateau Montelena. Felt it was a 5 star experience with terrific food and nice ambiance. The service was impeccable. In fact I almost wish the service was slower as we got the food so quickly that it was faster pace then I wanted. The lobster roll was good but it is more mayonnaise based then is my typical preference but still fantastic. The fish tacos were phenomenal and some of the best I have ever had. The cocktails were also lovely and refreshing. Highly recommend. I plan on coming back. read more

I recently had brunch here with my mother and girlfriend. Very nice atmosphere and excellent service. The food was good, and clearly was made from high quality ingredients, but was not stellar. SolBar, located in Solage Calistoga Hotel & Spa, is another Napa Valley gem that holds one Michelin star. My boyfriend and I celebrated our anniversary in wine country, and no trip would be complete without a gourmet dinner. It was last minute but I was able to squeeze in a late reservation at SolBar. I informed them we were celebrating our anniversary. The restaurant recently underwent renovations and the interior is stunning. SolBar effortlessly blends rustic vibes with a swanky flair. The dining area features elegant grey banquettes and a large fireplace. It exudes a lavish loungy feel, all the while maintaining a casual atmosphere. My boyfriend and I started our meal with cocktails. I had the Rose Crush (Hendrick's Gin, housemade rose syrup, grapefruit lemon), and he ordered the Better Than a Sweater (Casamigos Blanco tequila, spiced butternut squash syrup, lemon, orange). I loved my floral concoction! It literally tasted like roses, so sweet and refreshing. Unfortunately, my boy's drink was a miss; it was medicinal in flavor and quite bitter. SolBar's menu spotlights California-inspired dishes. Here's what we shared: *Grilled Spanish Octopus - urfa chile glaze, david little potato salad, sungold tomato, onion jam, candied lemons *Grilled Yellowfin Tuna - charred big ranch farms carrots, chile-scallion oil, molé amarillo, toasted pumpkin seeds *Pan-roasted Mary's Chicken - wild mushroom-black truffle stuffing, creamed bloomsdale spinach, smoked date chutney, quail egg We also received complimentary bites from the kitchen, including some fabulous cornbread muffins. The dishes were beautifully presented and flavorful. The octopus app was finely executed: tender but crunchy pieces, and nicely charred. For dessert, we ordered the chocolate marquise. It arrived with a little chocolate plaque with "Happy Anniversary" written on it. So sweet! It made our anniversary all the more special. Although the food was solid, I don't think it warrants a Michelin star. It was tasty but not spectacular. Portions are small but it's expected for this type of meal. Service was stellar. After our dinner, as we were making our way to the door, we passed by servers and staff who all wished us a happy anniversary. It was like everyone knew it was our special day! Ate here Monday night for the 3rd time but it was ok. I had wagyu pavette which was good but small portions as usually for $35. The place I go to get Kobe pave in SF ( prospect in FiDi) is actually better and cheaper. Drinks were just ok. I can make better drinks. We had butterscotch and chocolate bar for desert but it was just ok. Service was super SLOW. The waiter was not as trained as you would think for a Michelin star restaurant. He didn't ask when to bring out certain dishes. ( sometime some people have appetizer as entree but he didn't ask to specify) . We also tried to call 3 times to change our reservation and two guys told us they would call back later and they never did. The 3rd person answered and said we couldn't change reservation at all so "how can I help you?" In a very very unprofessional/sarcastic way. This is the service a Michelin start restaurant provides? I thought it was a joke. That being said, I DO NOT recommend this place. If you want better service and food, go somewhere else. I'm not going back to Solbar ever again. read more

been agonizing over how to write this review...it's been over 2 weeks and i think i'm ready. He walked us there and showed us where to check in. We didn't have a reservation ..and that was NOT a problem. We were seated promptly on the patio (inside was a bit stuffy for such a beautiful sunny day) nice atmosphere...located within a resort. That was the end of the goodness of this visit.... without going into extensive nit picky details.... I wasn't sure if our server was actually a server or the busboy who was filling in.... We rarely saw him... 1) took forever for him to take our order 2) even longer to get our food. 3) water refills....yup...got my refill along with the check (even though i had asked multiple times) 4) food was just ok...i mean it was good...but for the caliber of this place I expected more. 5) he said that splitting the bill was no problem...but then he didn't. We asked if we could use multiple cards...no problem he said. 2 of us used cards and the 3rd used cash...we WROTE down the amount to put on each card and how much of the cash needed to be used (the rest should have been change for her to decide on her tip. i returned from the bathroom and found out that he had pocketed the cash and charged more than double on my card (got the other card right) I hadn't said anything up till this point...but this had to be resolved. spoke with manager.... the server kept insisting that he keyed in the correct amount to my card and he had no clue why?? goodness! i asked about the change from the cash and he had no explanation. it was one annoying thing after another and topped off with me having to deal with this situation... In the end...manager cancelled all our charges (i haven't checked my credit card statement to double check...but he did give me the receipt showing that he cancelled our transactions)...then i had to ask for my friends cash back too...."oh ya"... so the experience was less than desirable...but i'm satisfied with the resolution. If i lived in the area i would give them a second chance ...but seeing that I don't make it up to Napa as often as i would like...and there are so many places i want to try...i'm not sure i'll have the chance to come back. Once is enough. The food was good for example I had the octopus as an app and my fiancée had the quinoa with avocado. Delicious. The main courses were 2 pastas- I had the agnolotti and she had the truffle.. good but insanely small portioned. It was literally 7 pieces of agnolotti - very confused and disappointed. But was pretty tasty the pieces they did make lol. Nothing superb. Biggest issue was the service, absolutely dreadful. If I'm spending decent money then I expect good attentive service, except we saw our server maybe 3 times in 2 hours. It was ridiculous. The outside was 85% full and inside was not even 20% - it's a Friday night... how do you understaff on a Friday night??!! Better planning and on site management would help. read more

We came here during a birthday trip to Calistoga. We had the Maine lobster "cocktail", oysters, grilled octopus, house tagliatelle, New York steak, stone fruit dessert and the butterscotch pudding. I would travel from sacramento back to this restaurant just for the pasta and the butterscotch pudding. The New York steak had a truffle sauce that, while delicious, was very rich and coated the vegetables that came along with it. The lobster cocktail and the octopus were also delicious, but the pasta knocked everything out of the park. It was simple and flavorful. We had to change tables because the patio seating at the bench sunk down so much that the table was up to my chest. We had reservations for 8:30 on a Saturday night and it was pretty packed. Sol Bar is absolutey amazing! The Solage Resort is right next door. I was impressed with the awesome customer service. Everyone was so friendly. The ambiance is great, the restaurant was clean, bathrooms are nice and the decor is just lovely. In their bathroom, they offer cloth towels to wipe your hands instead of paper towels. Way to save trees!!! There's also a courtyard/patio if you prefer to eat outside. If you like bocce ball, they have two bocce courts. The restaurant is surrounded with trees and it just feels like paradise. So if you're ever in Calistoga make sure you visit Sol Bar. read more

When we dined at Solbar for lunch, we had an amazing experience. Charles our server (at least thats the name listed on our bill) was wonderful - incredibly helpful, friendly, and attentive. His attention to detail made our experience worth 5 stars. All the other workers we interacted with during lunch were really friendly as well- from the man who brought us our coffee, the man who asked us what we have done on our trip thus far, and our hostess. The food we had was delicious. We ordered the following dishes: Beet salad Shrimp lettuce wraps Fish tacos I recommend all of the items we ordered! We shared family style so we can try a bit of everything. Our server also let us know that the tacos and wraps came in 3 per order and asked if we wanted to add an additional to make it even for the both of us. That attention to detail is what I really appreciate while dining. The food was spectacular. The environment was somewhat welcoming; especially when you act or look like you belong. The service, however, could significantly be improved: Our shabby-looking table did not get sprayed and wiped until our arrival. We should have been asked to momentarily wait instead of escorting us to our table and then doing the sanitation right before seating. Our server's visits back to out table were few and far between and it was difficult to spot her and moreso, catch her eye. We don't mind a $30 corkage fee for a resort environment, however, it becomes ridiculously superfluous when we have to pour the wine ourselves. Although we are experienced in pouring our own wine, doing this and fanning our food and drinks to shoo the flies away takes away from the complete enjoyment of the dining experience. The food, I must reiterate, was wonderful, and it became the redemptive element of the experience. read more

Horrible service from the Asian lady with short bleached hair and glasses at the entrance. I had a reservation and they seated us in a seat right in between the front double doors and back door. Every time someone came in and out of either door, cold drafts would come in and hit directly at us (it was 47-50's outside!). Finally after sitting there shivering for 15 minutes I asked the lady at the entrance if we could change to another table that was not directly in way of the cold drafts coming in from both entrances(there were at least 2 tables on opposite side of us that were empty) and she insisted that seating was pre arranged and could not be changed. I asked if we can switch to any of the other empty tables since there were several, and she said no. Finally a nice gentleman came by and asked what was wrong. I told him the issue and he promptly moved us over to another table and it was much warmer and more comfortable. The food and service after that was great. Those other empty tables remained empty the entire 90 minutes we dined. So she would have made us sit in the original table with cold drafts coming in from both sides while the other interior tables remained empty the entire time. The fact that this lady continued to give me pushback after I told her repeatedly that we were freezing and that she refused to move us to one of the several interior empty tables made this a poor experience for what was supposed to be a special occasion for my family and me and unfortunately this has tainted our experience at Solbar. Love this dog-friendly al fresco dining restaurant. They brought a water bowl and treat for my pup. Everyone told us to get the fish tacos, so we did, and we weren't disappointed! The crab cakes (2) were ok but overpriced, same for the drinks. If you stick to the fish tacos you'll have a great meal. read more

Not where you want for dinner, though the other lunch and breakfast options look promising. For the price, we expected so much more level of flavor. Everything was honestly kind of bland and simple, except for the crudo of hamachi (best thing we had) . The short rib had awesome texture but was burnt which also tainted the flavor of sides. The yam dip is adorable but had a lot of different textures that just didn't quite go together with raw veggie dippers (great flavor on those) which I was surprised were the only things it came with. The chicken and dumplings had close to raw carrots and the broth was just slightly salty brown sauce. We thought everything would be elevated in flavor but all fell flat compared to other restaurants we've eaten at. Ambience however is incredible outside especially! Fantastic service as well. My family and I have gone on a trip to California and we stayed at the solage. The solbar had the best food ever. Their burgers are amazing!

We stayed at the resort for one night to celebrate the holidays and the solBar was our favorite part! No wonder this restaurant has a michelin star. The service and food are both amazing. Our server knew exactly how they make the hot chocolate down to the details of every step. I was very impressed! Their oysters were very fresh & delicious and the lucky pig was a perfect portion for 2. I loved the broth the pork came in as well as the whole "make your own" wrap idea with the sesame crepe. It has a nice asian-fusion feel and wasn't too heavy. The breakfast here was amazing as well. Our server recommended a smoothie and I got the antioxidant one. The lemon pancakes were a bit too sweet for my taste but I really enjoyed my fresh crab salad (?) I think it was. It might've not been a salad, but it had fresh crab in it. I highly recommend stopping by solBar for a delicious meal followed by some mineral water relaxation at the spa. =) read more
