Jamaican buffet! Came here for breakfast and they had the tables lined up with various meats, veggies, porridges, and breads. The fried fish fritter was amazing, and the sweet bread rolls were similar to the chinese fried cruellers eaten with congee, but more dense. Tried the liver stew and fish in tomato sauce, both were tasty and heavy in flavor. Was nice to try some authentic foods different from my usual cuisines, and from what I heard this place is really good. I don't think I would personally return, wasn't my cup of tea but I'm glad I gave this place a shot. You should too! read more

Absolutely, freakin' fan-tasty-licious food[s]! Oh me, oh my :-) Loved it ... loved it all ... everything. I was so mesmerized by the array of dishes that I scrambled around to get a little bit of each of the 20+ dishes all into my one container. I couldn't get it all to fit, so I had to stop trying to fit it all anyway as my little tummy can only hold but yeah much food anyway. I tried almost all that was on my plate and I was even more tantalized by the taste, flavors, spices and ust everything. Totally great service; totally great food. LOVE this place. Everything i tried, i like... even the boiled corn on the cob! I love their red peas soup and the one on the buffet for covering over rice. Authentic..,. pig tails and dumplings included!!! the oxtails melt in your mouth! the prices are EXTREMELY reasonable! i like their cornbread too! Do. NOT. EAT. HERE!!! I've been coming to this place for years, always love to support local businesses, but I can no longer stay silent. They change prices without notification. The customer service? DISGUSTING! I've observed an older woman slip, fall; then told she had to get up and get out, the management treat the workers poorly, I should have stopped coming after that, however, they made something I only get there. Curry crab. I bought 3 pieces yesterday, ate one, it tasted like ammonia. Bad. I wrapped the remainder up and took it back. The same guy that the staff says is not the owner, but drives a Range Rover, I have seen handling restaurant business, tells me to get something else, but he tasted the crab and it didn't taste bad so they won't give me my money back. I don't eat anything else there because honestly, there is better food at other nearby spots. I said no, I want my money back, but they wouldn't give it to me. I asked for the owners name, they gave me the name of some dude I never see, no last name. I felt a headache after eating the crab, that later became an upset stomach, which had me up early in the morning; sick. Please don't eat here. Please don't encourage bad customer service. I have been going to soldiers for about 10 to 12 years and I always enjoyed their food. I still enjoy their food but I feel as though the staff is horrible. They are very rude to customers, they always get into arguments with each other(workers), and they are not very pleasant people. Ghetto. Post your prices by the food so people can see the prices. Goat curry was cooked to perfection, oxtail fall off the bone succulent, the bbq chicken... Was A-freaking-mazing. And it was just bbq chicken. The chef here is extremely talented. BUT... My coworker took me here for a Jamaican breakfast. It is buffet style with trays of fish, porridge, stews, and breads. The flavors are pretty heavy for a breakfast meal but still enjoyable. The one dish that stood out to me was the fried fish, so crispy and meaty. If it were not for its ho hum curb appeal, subpar lighting, its limited salad bar, desert, and beverage sections, this place would get 5 stars and my business years earlier. The food, especially the proteins are seasoned and cooked perfectly. The curried goat is the best I've eaten in Brooklyn. Their oven baked "jerked" chicken is beyond delicious - literally down to the bone. The prices are very reasonable and the customer service (cashier) has been pleasant every time I've been there. This place is close to my home. Every so often I pop in when in the mood for a taste of West Indian food. The breakfast of sake fish and spinach was ok. The salt fish was way to salty. I really don't understand how this place has 4 stars?! I was craving some authentic Jamaican food today. Specifically jerk chicken and curry chicken and was super excited that there was a Jamaican buffet near my hair appointment. But man oh man was I disappointed!!! First off NOTHING is labeled... it was like "is this chicken?" If so, what type?! It was like a buffet of surprise! Try a meat, any meat! Lol....I got rice and peas, Mac and cheese, jerk chicken and curry chicken and I swear it was all bland! ALL OF IT! The jerk chicken had no spice, no jerk sauce! NOTHING it was by far the worst jerk chicken I've ever had!!!! Oh! The chefs at this restaurant cook like they are cooking for them selves an not the public, too much PEPPER.... This is the only restaurant close to my job apart from Chinese an crown fried chicken.. One day I bought some turkey wings tooooo much pepper I couldn't eat it.. Sitting at work still hungry decide to try something else so I tried the chicken soup OMG way more pepper than the Turkey.. It's a rare sight to see a Jamaican buffet but I digress...the food here is one of the best I've had in NYC and the price is impossible to beat due to the fact that you weigh it before paying for it. Poor Customer Service - their food is good, no doubt but they have poor customer service. No one smiles in there, especially the cashiers. They act as if they don't care for your business at all. In fact, most of the cashier's give you a look as if you're actually bothering them when you pay for you food. They look annoyed and treat every transaction in a non-challant manner. I don't know about you but I would rather give my money to a business that ACTS AS IF THEY WANT MY MONEY. Most of the workers in there have disgusting attitudes. It's a joke. Disclaimers: I am not an expert on Jamaican/Caribbean food. However, I do like these types of dishes i.e. I am very carnivorous; I like bony meat a lot; and I like that spice palate. The food: The selection is enormous. I picked out three different meats of some sort and my bf picked out a curry which I also tried. I liked all of them but was not blown away by any of them. They all had interesting and different spices. All of it was pretty heavy and fatty but that's the kind of food that this is and that's what makes it good. I just probably wouldn't have it all the time. The bad thing is that is was lukewarm and this hugely detracted from the taste. My bf also got some mac&cheese and that was pretty bad. He got fried chicken too, which was decent but not awesome. All in all, I expected to really like the food, based on the reviews, and on how it looked, but somehow it didn't do much for me. Service/Ambience: None of the food is labelled. Obviously, you see it, but it bugs me not to know what I am eating. It also makes it harder to find next time. Finally, it makes it difficult to navigate the pricing (more on that later). Price: You pay by the pound and it's not particularly cheap for buffet. There are several price levels, which is a bit confusing because you have to make sure to put stuff in different containers or get charged extra. The lowest price level is for chicken and everything else non-meat (under $5/lb). The others are for oxtails (under $6), meat, and seafood, under $7 I think. I don't know how they handle it if you just get a couple pieces of something from the expensive stuff over mostly cheaper stuff. I made sure not to do it. Somehow it ends up being a little pricier than expected. I got a few pieces of meat and it ended up being 1 lb. I was kind of surprised by that because it seemed like a lot less weight. Maybe their weighing is not exactly accurate, but I have no evidence of that. In any case, it was barely enough food. My bf piled his box and it ended up being over 2 lbs which again seems like more than it should have been, but I am probably wrong about that. All in all, I plan to come one more time to sample some more dishes but for now, I feel like this type of food can be obtained better or cheaper elsewhere (though not combined with this much variety). A simple improvement that could be crucial is to make the food hotter. read more

They need to start taking Debit and wish that their seating space was bigger. Also a little more ventilation. Glass gets really foggy from the heat of the food.
