We recently tried Deckhand Social and overall had a good experience. The location is great and we appreciated the local discount they offer. The menu, however, felt a little lacking in originality with a lot of the same typical beach-style items you find elsewhere. The flatbread was just okay, and while the chicken sandwich was a very large portion, it lacked flavor and definitely could have used some BBQ sauce or another sauce option to elevate it. The mahi tacos were good, but the portion of mahi inside was on the smaller side. Overall, it's a solid spot with a great atmosphere and location, but there are other local restaurants nearby that serve food just as good -- if not better. read more

Fun spot. The vibe is honestly the best part--super nice inside, and the outdoor area is amazing with a built-in pool you can actually swim in. Food was good. Tried the deck hand social club and it did not disappoint. Went for drinks and appetizers and my wife had the hurricane and I had the oyster city brown ale. We got the grouper bites which were crispy fried absolutely tender and flaky as you would expect. The bluestone crab claws we got. Sautéed and they were delicious. We had never had the crab claws before and they are well worth it. Our server Andrew was extremely nice and took well care of us. We rounded out our meal with a Keylime pie, which was absolutely delicious. We couldn't check into our hotel early so we tried to find somewhere dog friendly we could eat at to kill time -- This place was close by & allowed us to bring our dog inside and to the outdoor patio! There were multiple other dogs there as well, so that was great! My complaint is that it was Friday at 2 pm and pretty busy outside and they had one bartender. It took about 35 minutes to get a menu and put in a drink order, and if you needed anything else (drink refill, silverware, etc.) you had to track down the bartender and wait your turn. Now I will say the bartender was so kind and absolutely doing his best! The extremely delayed and poor service was NOT his fault; that is on management for scheduling one employee to work the patio on a spring break Friday afternoon! We eventually saw another employee who we asked to get us water with no ice and he asked if it was for our dog-- when he returned he brought a bowl for her, which is just a little extra step he didn't have to take but was extremely nice! The food at DHS is great. The atmosphere is casual and fun. The service was spot on. On a 5day work trip, I visited twice. I had fried gulf shrimp for one meal and fish and chips for my second meal. The waiter came by and asked if we wanted refills so of course we said yes. When we finally got our check we noticed that they changed us for the refills without even telling us! WTF??? We have been visiting Deckhand Social for the last three years and have eaten here multiple times on every trip. Unfortunately, our most recent experience was so disappointing that we will not be returning. When we arrived, we were told the wait would be about 20 minutes and that we would receive a text message when our table was ready. We sat directly outside the entrance and waited. After 30 minutes, we checked in and were told our table still wasn't ready. During that time, we watched several parties who arrived after us get seated before us. At around the 45-minute mark, a staff member came outside and asked another waiting party if they were ready to be seated because the restaurant's texting system wasn't working. We immediately checked back in and were told their system wasn't working. Instead of acknowledging that this may have caused us to be skipped, staff repeatedly insisted they had texted us multiple times. They attempted to reset the system and send another text, which still never arrived. Rather than addressing the issue, the interaction became accusatory, as though we were being blamed for a problem with their own system. The situation became much worse when my mother calmly mentioned that we felt we may have been skipped over. Dustin immediately escalated the conversation. His first response was, "You can go somewhere else." He began slamming his hands on the counter, arguing with us, interrupting every attempt to explain what we meant, and refusing to let anyone speak. We repeatedly tried to clarify that our concern was simply that the malfunctioning system may have caused us to lose our place in line. When we asked to speak with a manager, Dustin ignored the request and continued yelling. Eventually, he shouted that he was the owner and then kicked our family out of the restaurant. What made this especially upsetting was that we had two very young children with us who were frightened and crying by the end of the encounter. In all of our years dining out, we have never experienced such hostile, aggressive, and unprofessional behavior from a restaurant owner. We left without eating, and two other waiting families left as well after witnessing the way we were treated. After reading other reviews, it appears this is not an isolated incident. There are numerous complaints mentioning Dustin's behavior. It's unfortunate because the restaurant itself has potential, but customer loyalty can only go so far when guests are treated with disrespect. After years of supporting this business, we were shocked to be treated this way and cannot recommend Deckhand Social to others. read more

The staff were very nice and accommodating to our dog. Our server, Sam, was great. She was friendly and attentive. We had the she crab soup and a mahi Caesar salad.
