I just love browsing around Kailua on foot as you see more like exactly how I found Kailua Seasoning Company after shopping around a small lot right across the street was the Lokahi Market held every Sunday that I love visiting whenever I have the chance. Just look for the Tiffany blue painted storefront as the signage can be a bit demure but gosh I was not prepared to see the selection of seasonings this cute shop has to offer to the right of the entrance actually got my attention as they had selection of teas including a bottle of Maple Syrup with Sparkles really got thinking of my mocktails lol! The shop staff is great and very informative as I was looking intensely at the teas telling me about the shop next door La Bodega which serves various drinks though are open Tuesday to Friday only so I will be back on another day. She continue to describe the various seasonings and which one are the favorites but it was a bag of "Island Stir Fry" that what I really liked with ingredients like ginger, garlic, bell pepper, onion, sesame seeds, parsley and Chile pepper these common items together are wonderful in multiple dishes, soups and fried rice. I guess I hardly walk around this area and missed seeing this place as I was driving by. I was off one day and wanted to check out the store while I wait for my lunch order from Lilikoi Kitchen. While searching for it, I first found their other business next door called La Bodega -Grab and Go. That's a nice grab and go shop that opened on the same day I went. The owners who were there were really nice and friendly. Kailua Seasoning has so many types of seasonings for everything. Not just for marinade but read can be used on popcorn or even avocado toast. I could be in the store for a long time looking at each one. I thought these seasonings would make good gifts since it's from Kailua or for my use. They have gift boxes too. It's nice that it came in different size pouches. I got the smaller pouch of Island Stir Fry and the Black Hawaiian Salt as finishing salt for dishes, I thought that was different. I was going to keep it but decided to give as gift. I can always stop by. It would make nice gifts for my town friends or out of state friends. After enjoying brunch at the fabulous Mexican restaurant next door, we headed to Hawaiian Vintage. We were greeted by the owner as she began to share with us about what they do, when they started their business, where the ingredients come from, why they get their ingredients locally and how they turn fruit into wine into shrubs and finally, into vinegar. She shared with us the positive health benefits while walking behind the counter as she pulled out and placed a bottle of each flavor of shrub on the counter and she began to pour the first sample for my sister and me. What a fun experience! Every single shrub I could sample was delicious. I love the fruitiness and the smell of the different herbs. And because of it, I didn't really notice or mind the vinegar. We talked about the many ways of using the shrubs as marinades, salad dressings, with fish, meats, teas, morning shot, mocktails and cocktails, and even utilizing different flowers, fruits and herbs. And so, we proceeded to purchase a few bottle samples. For a 3 pack sample of 4 oz bottles is $36. However, for the month of September 2024, you get an additional 4 oz bottle for free. Highly recommend supporting this local company and I hope it will become one of the many long time establishments that you can only find in Wahiawa.

She held her finger up without making eye contact and said "just a minute" because apparently what she was working on was much more important than catering to a peasant off the street taking up air. Literally a minute or two of awkward silence passed. Long enough for me to look around and notice this place doubled as some kind of unit rental business with keys hanging off a pegboard. Clearly that business took priority over my needing a few poke mix packets to bring to my brother in California. When she finally acknowledged my presence she replied "yes but you have to buy a minimum of $45." Excuse me? What? When I asked how much each one cost ($7.95) I had to figure out quickly whether I needed to buy 4, 5, or just bolt out of there with no ogo for my brother because I clearly was getting the message that customers aren't actually welcome there. I bit the bullet though, grabbed 4 packs of original poke mix and one other kind and went to pay. Turns out the other mix was $27 or something more than I'd spend on pounds of fresh ahi so that one went back on the rack. This wasted another minute of Important Lady's time. So after another awkwatd waiting moment, I handed her my credit card which she ran in silence, wiished her a happy holiday, and left that shop of unhappiness never to return again.
