When you step inside, the folks are very friendly and helpful and it smells amazing as fresh product is being made. They have a refrigerator section with the for sale items. Fyi CASH ONLY. We really wanted Tofu Fa tofu pudding with the ginger syrup and it was delicious. Ate it back in our hotel room that has a microwave. Their soybean products were amazing!!!! they had one of the best tofu fa (tofu dessert) I've had outside of Asia. The ones I got from 99 ranch in California can't even compare. The tofu was absolutely silky with no grainy texture. And the brown syrup had a good ginger flavor in it. Yummy! Also their soy milk was very good. So much flavor and I like how they had a no sugar version. The guy there was very friendly. He packed up my stuff with ice in a bag too. The prices were also reasonable. There wasn't a storefront. You just have to walk into their factory. Their fridges for products were located on the left hand side of the building when you enter though. There were also two doors one On each side. So enter on the left side so you wouldn't have to walk on wet floors as much. It could be easy to miss this place, but look for the blue roof, blue door and blue sign across a Mexican restaurant (I believe?). You won't regret that you've come here! read more

Found 1000 feet plus in plastic in the ocean from your company do better. At Maguce island you just left a plastic rap of that is over 1000 feet long and still some trash stuck in the rocks. I went down there and took at at least 400 feet of it but still a lot of trash in the rocks and water. Bad company doesn't care about the environment. read more

I have to thank Kanjico, the grocery store in Cultural Plaza. I wouldn't have found out about Mrs Cheng if it wasn't for them. So after we bought their tofu pudding at Kanjico we followed the address on the label and found this little factory hidden on Kalihi St! There's no sign on the outside so one can easily miss it. If you come from Nimitz it will be on your left and right behind the Mexican place Taqueria La Marea (which btw has excellent Mexican food!). There are only a few spots at the parking lot. Once you go inside you may feel lost cos all the staff are busy working and they don't have a small counter for customers (like the one at aloha tofu factory). But it's ok just head straight to the fridge and the staff will know. You will see tofu, tofu pudding and soy milk in the fridge. We bought 2 tofu pudding and 2 bottles of medium size soy milk and it costed us only $15. Tofu pudding was $4.25 each. The ginger flavor syrup was $1.25 each. Very affordable. We tried both sweetened and unsweetened soy milk. They were so smooth and had such rich flavor of soy beans that those commercial ones can't compare. I personally like the sweetened one better because the sweetness was very very subtle it was probably just at 25% sweetness if you use the boba drink standard. The tofu pudding was a little too pudding like. I was expecting it to be a bit softer, just like how tofu pudding should be. But once I heat it up it softened a bit and boom it got the perfect texture I was looking for. Nom nom the flavor of my childhood. The syrup was surprisingly delicious with a hint of ginger flavor. So we had to make a stop here on our recent Hawaii visit. She attests it is the best tofu on Oahu! They use pharmaceutical grade soybeans for purity and hygiene. The tofu milk was so lightly sweetened, it was on par with cow's milk in terrms of sweetness level. The tofu pudding or "custard" was very light and smooth and came with a very light ginger syrup that was not very sharp and offered a subtle nose of ginger. PRO TIP: The place is in an industrial area with not much parking, except the spots in their own private lot. Healthy eating in Kalihi, Honolulu... Some of my friends have been checking in at Mrs. Cheng's Soybean Products and they got me curious. I read their reviews, bookmarked this business, and made my way over to Kalihi... PARKING: there's a small parking lot right in front of the store. All spaces were taken when I arrived on a Tuesday afternoon, so I parked on the street in the path of a neighboring business' driveway. They looked closed for the day. ENVIRONMENT: this tofu factory was in the process of cleaning up, so there were no loud noises from the machines. The floors were freshly washed and still damp. SERVICE: one of the employees called a female worker to come over to the refrigerator and help me. She pointed out the sweetened vs. plain soymilk and the three different sizes (pint, quart, and half gallon). She assumed that I wanted the sweet ginger sauce (90 cents) for my tofu pudding ($3.50) because she placed a container in my bag of sweetened soymilk (quart = $2.80) and tofu pudding. She was very efficient! FOOD: I'm really glad I got the sweetened (with maple syrup) soymilk. It was easier for me to drink! I also liked the ginger syrup with the tofu pudding. OMG so good. While I am a huge Aloha Tofu fan, I do love Mrs. Cheng's dofu hua which is that silky silky tofu with the ginger sugar syrup. It's SOOOO good - so soft and smooth, you can literally suck it through your teeth. It's a super refreshing snack and you can feel good about it since it's tofu! Mrs. Cheng's is located on Kalihi street directly across from Ethel's. Don't believe your GPS if it tells you to turn off Kalihi onto another street. I've only been helped by one older gentleman who seems to be running the shop pretty much on his own. I didn't see any pricing, but the tofu hua was $5 a pop. This is the best place for fresh soy products! When I'm home, we pick up a supply of soy milk with maple syrup and the dessert dofu hua every week. It goes straight to the cooler, since we drive from Waikele. The soy milk is fresh without any gritty residue and tastes as fresh as tofu! I'm definitely a fan! The only complaint I'd make is that it is a factory, so there is no store front. Paying cash is probably ideal for them unless you're a business on their delivery list. read more

Recently discovered this place while looking on Yelp. I've seen these products in the grocery store before and never knew that they had a factory that you could also visit. The shop is located across the street from Ethel's in Kalihi. There is a small lot where you can find parking, if not, you might be able to double park and run in. They are literally there making their products as you walk in. I knew that I wanted to try the tofu pudding. One of the workers came up to us and took our orders. They have a written menu on paper with items like soft/firm tofu, soymilk, tofu pudding, and okara. I decided to also try some of the okara - the soybean scraps that are a byproduct of making tofu and soymilk. I am fairly unfamiliar with okara but I've seen and eaten a few dishes with it. The bag is HUGE for $2 or so. I ordered two and should have only ordered one. The tofu pudding is a little over $4 and I got a side of the ginger syrup for an extra $1. Getting your order is super easy and you can enjoy their products at home. The tofu pudding is so soft and amazing! I would come back to buy more of this. It's silky and smooth, almost like eating nothing. I'm a big tofu fan so this was a great find. The ginger syrup was alright to me. I liked my tofu better with a little shoyu. The syrup has a light sweet ginger taste - a bit too subtle for my liking. I think it is supposed to be more like a pudding dessert but I prefer mine savory! The okara comes in a big bag - like the bags you get to put produce in a grocery store. It is a lot so it can be split amongst people if you just want to try some. I made some okara dish with veggies and seasoned with shoyu and mirin. I still have some packed in my freezer that will last a while. Not sure if I would buy again, but it is a great find for those who like okara or want to try it! read more

This hidden gem in Kalihi is the place to come if you want the freshest tofu on the island. They make a great tofu pudding with maple syrup that is so refreshing on a hot day and some awesome sweetened soy milk. A favorite for me and the Mrs., we always come here to save some some money. You can purchase these from your local supermarkets, however, I rather come here and save some $ and get the real fresh stuff! Mrs. Cheng's Soy Bean Product is another one of those hidden sources of quality food products you see selling at store, but not sure where it's exactly from. I know of Mrs. Cheng's for a long time because many restaurants order from them, and many stores carry their products, but I never knew you can actually do there to directly purchase. A friend told me where it was, but he didn't explain it very well. When I arrived at Mrs. Cheng's on this visit, I realized I have been passing by this place almost every day for work! Shame on me! OMG! Mrs. Cheng's is located on the south end of Kalihi St., between Silva and Kahai Streets, and directly across Ethel's Grill. It's on your left hand side if you are driving down Kalihi St. from Nimitz. There's a small apartment building blocking the view, and other large vehicles blocking the view as well, but there's a small, fenced building with a small blue sign. There's space for parking, but just a few spots of their delivery vans aren't there. When you go inside, it's a big tofu factory with loud machines blaring. It might be confusing of where to go, but just look for the refrigerators that has the soy milk and tofu pudding. In the coolers are the tofus. Go there and someone will come. We were greeted by the boss lady (Mrs. Cheng?). We got the 64 ounce soy milk with maple syrup for $4.50, a soft tofu for $2.20, and tofu pudding at $3.50 plus syrup for 90 cents extra. No tax. Good deal! The tofu pudding very soft and silky smooth. The syrup had a hint of ginger that really went well with the pudding. My wife is addicted now. The soy milk was fresh and delicious! I've seen and purchased the same soy milk sold at stores, and more often than not, the milk turns very quickly. I've had the one I purchased several days now, and it still tastes like the first day I tried it. The tofu is definitely the best tofu out of the typical ones you see at the store, such as Aloha, House Foods, and etc. Overall, Mrs. Cheng's is definitely a place to stop by if you are a fan of tofu, soy milk, tofu pudding, and other soy products. Be very careful of how slippery the floors are with water, from the tofu making process. Don't slip! Excellent Tofu-fa (dou-hua), nice and silky soft. The soft tofu was yummy. Don't let the "sketch" area deter you from visiting this factory. It is not a store front but rather the actual work space. Just ask the worker who comes to greet you at the door what you want. They do not have showcase refrigerators to see their products. The cost of a brick of soft tofu was $3, a bit more than what you can buy at the store. However, the brick is a bit bigger and definitely more tasty, according to my Japanese parents. read more

My best find from 2016! I've been testing out different soy milk from various brands and stores, but I wanted one that was made with fresh and simple ingredients which is how I found out about Mrs. Cheng. There's a little shop in Chinatown that sells Mrs. Cheng soy milk, but I didn't realize until much later I could buy it directly from the company! Fresh soy milk taste so different from the boxed varieties you find at the supermarkets; it's soothing and the flavor is yummier than dairy milk. Mrs. Cheng has two versions, one unsweetened and the other with maple, so there's a tinge of sweetness. Obviously from soy, you can also make other ingredients such as tofu! From what I heard, a lot of high end Japanese and Korean restaurants buy their tofu from Mrs. Cheng because of its soft and silky texture. Perfect for agedashi or soondubu! Everyone here is nice and works very hard to ensure you get the best soy products. It's also always cool to see blocks after blocks of fresh tofu waiting to be packed. Right next to Taqueria La Marea is Mrs Cheng's. Stop here for fresh tofu and silky tofu "pudding." (That's what the lady who helped me called it.) It's a factory, not a store but they will sell you soft, firm, and silky tofu and it's really reasonable. (A container of soft tofu, firm tofu, silky tofu pudding, and ginger sauce was only $8.80.) There's a tiny parking area clearly not meant for shoppers but since you'll be in and out in less than 5 minutes you can probably double park if needed. (When I arrived there was one actual space left so I didn't need to double park.) The "pudding" comes in a plastic container that you can scoop the silky tofu out of. Don't forget to buy the ginger sauce - it is a wonderful treat with the sauce! Found out about this tofu factory from a friend who gave me a container of silky tofu and ginger sauce. The soft and firm tofu was really, really fresh and delicious. Was pleasantly surprised to drive by and see it while looking for someplace else and didn't want to miss out on opportunity to try their products and get more of the silky tofu and ginger sauce. Purchase the following soy items from this factory at very reasonable prices: - Soy milk, plain or maple syrup; two sizes, half gallon (best deal) and a smaller size - Tofu, soft or firm; sealed packs - Tofu, firm in a bag (best deal); must replace water beginning the day you get it home. - Tofu cheese - IDK what it's called but it's a harder, more solid form of their tofu product. Some ppl use it as a cheese substitute. - Tofu pudding It's a silky smooth dessert-grade version of their tofu products. Eat it with honey! Business hours: The posted business hours say they're closed at 6pm but I've noticed that they're there long after. If you are in the area craving soy products, try stopping by. Who would ever guess that Tofu could be so delicious?? I read a few reviews earlier, and I'm sure glad that I stopped at Mrs. Cheng's. The tofu pudding is soooo good, I'd have to say I'd crave this more than a bowl of ice cream. It's light, smooth and doesn't make you feel guilty after eating it! The tofu pudding comes in a quart container and you have the option of buying it plain or with sweet ginger sugar sauce for $0.90... yes, less than a dollar! This is a must buy if you come here. I also picked up a 1/2 gallon of maple soy milk. This tastes nothing like the carton stuff in the market. No preservatives and it is clean and silky! Mrs. Cheng's also sells soft tofu and firm by the container. Nothing costs more than $4 and is very reasonable. The factory is clean and well kept, and the workers are so nice. The factory is a bit hard to see if you're whipping through Kalihi, but it's located right across from Ethel's Grill. Parking is available right in front. They only take cash, but it's soooo worth it. Unlike some of the other factories, their hours of operation are dependable from 7am-6pm. This is a huge plus! read more

Thanks to my Cousin who gave me some ono-delicious soy milk last week, The curiousity of me just had to go and check out Mrs. Cheng's Soybean products on Kalihi St. It's located in a hidden spot, so drive slowly or else you'll just miss it and go in circles like I have. It's actually on the leftside and the factory is a small faded light blue building. As you enter, there are workers that will try to assist you on your purchase. They could barely speak english, but it was okay we somehow managed to communicate with them. I surely had an experience watching how they process the soy bean, very educating & interesting. They sell soymilk plain or with maple, pudding, soft Tofu and other items which I was not familiar with. We bought about 16 bottled Soymilk with maple syrup - 16 fl. oz. size. So smooth, cold and refreshing! Happy to have found another gem of "Made in Hawaii" product. You gotta try it folks, sooo delicious! read more

Mom and I have been coming here to get tofu and soymilk products for years. We've tried everything they sell. We love the maple and unsweetened soymilks as well as the tofu pudding and the normal tofus too. All organic, non-GMO, no preservatives, yet still at a low, low cost. They have fresh soy milk and tofu. They don't really speak English. The parking is limited. The lady overcharged me by $4 butI didn't want to go back because my friend was driving. When you go inside the shop the floor is wet and they soaked the tofu and soy milk on water. I would buy what I can consume within a few days. After a few days I was going to drink the soy milk but it was bad it curd and smell sour. I threw it away along with the tofu pudding just to be safe. read more

I can't believe I never wrote a review on Mrs. Chengs, because this place is a small tofu factory that is only known by word of mouth. When I crave for the freshest tofu, I take a detour from Nimitz to Kalihi street to buy it straight from them. Since it's a factory, as I step into the door, the floor is sometimes puddled with water and it's amazing watching them work hard packing the tofu right before my eyes, and oh, when eaten right away, it tastes so reFRESHing! Hard Tofu - 5 stars - Great with ramen or eaten alone. Soft Tofu - 5 stars - this is the best I've always eaten because it's straight from the factory. Can't eat it later than a week or it'll turn sour or taste like those sold at the grocery stores. I love it just by itself when eaten right away, and even better with somen sauce. Tofu Fah(?) - 5 stars - a really really soft tofu sold in a tub to be eaten in a bowl. Ask for the brown sugar syrup to mix it with this tofu to eat it as dessert, and it tastes just like almond float. Soy Milk - 4 stars - tastes more like tofu than milk, so my kids don't like it as much, but it's really fresh. The only bad thing I can say about this place is that they are open only until 6pm Sunday through Friday, but more like 5:30 - 5:45pm, so it's hard to catch them if you work late and you need to drive directly home to refrigerate it since it's perishable, oh and I think they take CASH only. read more

Tucked away in this industrial neighborhood is a little gem called Mrs. Cheng's. They specialize in tofu, tofu pudding, and soy milk. Once you enter, it's basically a tofu factory, all machines, coolers, and no nonsense employees. Don't be intimidated, though, as the their soy milk is fabulous. My mom's been buying tofu products from this factory for a long time, so this place is something of a gold standard against which I judge many other soy products. Needless to say, I love pretty much everything here. The soy milk has a fresh, clean taste--something I've only ever been able to find in Asian soy milks. I find a lot of the non-Asian soy milks (Silk, 8th Continent, etc.) to have a stronger bean-y flavor to me, but for some people I know they find it just the opposite, so I think it's really an individual taste thing. This is the only soy milk I've ever found sweetened with maple syrup, and it is divine with just the right amount of sweetness! In fact, I buy unsweetened soy milk where I live and sweeten it with maple syrup to replicate this since I don't live in Hawaii anymore. The nigari tofu (doufu gan) is firm, as mentioned by others, and fries up extremely well. It's also great fresh/uncooked with a little drizzle of soy sauce (or even just plain--I will eat a whole block of this stuff cold and as is if you leave me alone with it). Both my dad and I are big fans of the tofu scraps (dou bian), which aren't as firm as the nigari, but definitely more dense than the firm tofu and just... has a really good bite to it in stir fry or even in soup. I think you need to try it to understand the difference, but it's definitely worth a go! If you've never had tofu pudding (dou hua), definitely try it. My family likes to eat it hot with the ginger syrup it comes with, but I also enjoy it cold. It's delicious! :D read more
