Writing a review for their Acai Bowls. These have become my favorite acai bowls. I love how generous they are with the portions, the texture of the acai is nice, and the flavor combinations are ono. I usually take out-of-town guests to visit Ulu Mana (after we get fresh fried taro chips from the Hawaiian Chip Company across the street) because HCC gives out coupons for free cookies. I will pick up their ulu beet hummus and have my guests sample the ulu chips. One visit, I ran into a friend who told me the acai bowls were the best in town. I skeptically asked if she had tried all the acai bowls to determine that and she said YES I DID! lol. So of course I had to try one and was hooked! These are damn good acai bowls! Pictured is the PB & Cacao Acai Bowl. Note: They offer you a sample of whatever shortbread cookie they are baking that day. One visit, I got a cookie fresh out of the oven. HEAVENLY! Unfortunately, that spoiled me and "not fresh out of the oven" cookies just don't hit the same. Located right across from the Hawaiian Chip Company and also houses other local products, including Keith's cookies. We made our way over to check them out. Samples of cookies, as well as their different flavor 'ulu chips were handed out. Can also ordered a box of fresh chips. They suggested calling in beforehand to place an order so that it's ready upon arrival. The chips were thin and crispy. We walked out with a bag of the garlic bits - as good as the regular ones but just not as pretty, as well as a bag of cookies. Chips made fresh to order, either ulu or cassava. It is all fried in coconut oil, so it's relatively healthy even though it's fried. It's extremely thin and crisp. Really delicious, especially when hot. And you can request the seasoning you would like, except we just had it plain. The sales person was so nice and let us try a couple different chips and dips so we could figure out what we wanted to take! Additionally, we got a ulu hummus to go. I have recently been on this ulu chip fix since my coworkers cousin made a batch of ulu chips. I went to ulu mana to get some. I bought a box for our office. The chips are made fresh and they are nice and thinly sliced. They have a nice crunch to them. The only downside is that they fry it in coconut oil. Yes, much more healthy, but it gives the ulu the coconut taste. I like a more neutral oil. Their hummus is really yummy. I had it when they first started. Jalapeño is my favorite. Definitely give those a try. There's parking right in front of the building and they weren't too busy. They can be pricey, but it's ok for eating it every once in a while on a special occasion. read more

They offer free samples too so don't be afraid to ask. Also they have a decent amount of parking in front but if you go on the weekend it should be less crowded. It's a cute store inside and they do have a bathroom which was a nice thing lol. They're usually at the farmers market across Oahu but if you want fresh chips I highly recommend coming here. Ulu Chips and Ulu Hummus, where have you been all my life? YUM! Unique operation specializing in Ulu in Kalihi by owner and founder, Loren! Ulu is breadfruit - has a similar taste to potato. All of their Ulu is sourced straight come the small local farmers in Hawaii. The farmers bring their crops directly to the facility where they process everything in house! You can even watch their process through the window. Stopped by today and met Crystal, the owner's fiancé and she was friendly and personable. Great energy! She offered samples of various Ulu Chips and even the hummus! My favorite was the Cinnamon Flavor and Garlic Flavor, which had a mild flavor and was still crunchy. The iced coffee with Oatmilk was decent. I do wish the garlic flavors were more prominent, but it's a good mild flavor to bring out the Ulu flavor. The Ulu chips did get stale/hard fast, by the next day. So, I recommend bringing a ziplock or airtight container if you plan to order fresh ones! We bought a bag of Sweet Potato Flavor, Beet Ulu Hummus, Turmeric Ulu Hummus. The Turmeric one was SO ONO! I was pleasantly surprised by the texture. We stumbled upon this shop looking for tea, coffee, and a bathroom and found so much more! We were SOOO THANKFUL that we stopped by because it was a highlight of our day. First of all, we were able to get iced hibiscus tea and iced tea. Refreshing and delightful flavorful. Also, they did have a very nice bathroom! So all of our intentions were met. But then we discovered the Ulu Mana breadfruit chips and hummus. The delightfully friendly woman who was working the counter let us sample the garlic and sea salt chip and the lime and sea salt chips. Both were delicious, but he garlic sea salt was AMAZING! We HAD to order a bag. We tried all four hummus. If we weren't leaving tomorrow, we would have gotten the turmeric hummus...soo good! The others were good too. The beet hummus was a great flavor and the jalapeño had a great kick! The man then made the chips fresh for us! Cutting the breadfruit, seasoning them, and then frying them up. Now that's service! And delicious. While we waited, we enjoyed our drinks and looked around the adorable shop. They also boast lots of goods from the Hawaiian farmer's market. I was familiar with the 'Ulu Mana breadfruit chip brand for sometime with their colorful bags. For those that haven't tried, breadfruit is what it sounds - a fruit native to the Pacific with the consistency of bread when cooked. 'Ulu Mana however has a number of different uses for it and partners with local farmers to supply the raw ingredients. Their factory store is open to the public and also serves as a coffee shop and store featuring all locally made products from the islands. For locals and visitors alike interested in Hawaii agricultural products, this is a must-visit store. Located in Kalihi, it's just a block off Nimitz with free parking out front. You can't miss the brightly colored building. They have a restroom as well if you're making this part of a holoholo adventure. Inside there are tables and racks of shirts and hats, plus locally made products like coffee, meat/jerky, spices, hot sauces, and of course all things 'ulu! Behind the glass wall is the kitchen where they process raw 'ulu and either deep fry it for their range of chips or mash it into hummus which is also seasoned and comes in different flavors. We bought the tomato and turmeric flavors as we got free samples and loved both. (Be sure to ask to try anything and you probably can!) We also bought Maui Nui Venison sticks and bags of coffee beans from a favorite Big Island Roasters. They have specially brewed coffee for iced drinks to enjoy there or to take to-go as well. My favorite ulu chips now has a storefront with plenty of parking in Kalihi. They are located across from the Hawaiian chip company. They also have to go sandwiches, dips and hummus, other local snacks that's perfect for gifting as well as açaí bowls and iced coffee. I stopped by on Thursday, July 20, 2023 at 10:45a with my friend. This is my second time visiting this newly opened venue. The owners of 'Ulu Mana were friendly as they worked the front and back of the store. I knew what I wanted to get since I've been here before. I got the 'Ulu Churro Chips in a bag that were hot off the fryer. The chips were thin, delicate and crisp. The 'Ulu flavoring was at the forefront with the dusting of cinnamon and sugar making it a sweet treat. I also checked in on Yelp, and got a 20% discount on any of the Hummus dips, I selected their creation of the Jalapeño Hummus dip also made from 'Ulu. The Jalapeño Hummus has a spicy kick to it, that I enjoyed. I also saw that they had a chocolate, coconut, sugar cane flavored candy that peaked my interest and I got that, too. If you want other Hawaii locally produced items, you will find that on the front counter. You will be able to sample the many items there ranging from honey, chocolate, salts, and hot sauces to name a few things. As you peruse around the store you will see more locally made products as well as merchandise such as baseball caps and t-shirts that have their companies logo, that you can purchase. I will definitely return to 'Ulu Mana Chip Factory to get the Lime flavored Ulu Chips, and the Beet Flavored Hummus made with 'Ulu as well as the Chili Oils. I chauffeured my wife to the Ulu Mana - Ulu Chip Factory Yelp event. I was treated to some samples and got to watch someone cutting the ulu for the chips. They have a large window for you to view the chip making process. Got to meet Crystal, the owners wife. Sweet, friendly ,and knowledgeable. After she gave my wife her swag cup and ice coffee, she proceeded to explain the different items on display. All of the items in the shop are locally sourced. Comes out in a pastry/cake box lined with parchment paper. Don't seal the lid completely as the steam will make the chip soggy. Highly suggest trying their ulu hummus as well to go with your chips. They have 4 different flavors but love the jalapeño one and beet version. They're also selling coffee there. You can get it iced or hot and they brew one of their products on sale from the Big Island Coffee Roasters. Strong, smooth and not so acidic like some other coffees I've had. Support local! I cam to their factory store and met the owners and was truly impressed by this business. Not only were they friendly and courteous, they also showed me the large variety of products (besides ulu chips) that they sell.Their Hawaiianfarmersmarket.com site lists the many products, including locally produced chocolate. I like their ulu chip and they are great with their ulu hummus as well. Ulu is a very filling and nutritious snack, so I fely doubly good about supporting another small local business and fueling my body as well. read more

Checked out this ulu chip factory/store in Kalihi. They are located right across from the Hawaiian chop company that sells taro chips. You may sample their chips and dips here. They sell already packaged ulu chips in a variety of flavors or you can order them made to order fresh! Their fresh made to order chips are amazingly good! Love their garlic onion flavored ulu chips!
