If you're in Somewhere in Time Photography, this is an absolute MUST-do. Our experience far exceeded expectations. Becky, our photographer, was everything you could hope for--friendly, funny, outgoing, and incredibly patient. She somehow managed to wrangle our group of 30-somethings (truly like herding cats ) while making every single one of us feel comfortable and confident in our bodies. She took multiple shots, gave great direction, and made the whole process feel effortless and fun. One of our friends couldn't make the trip, and Becky went above and beyond by including a Barbie in the photos so we could send her a picture and make her feel included. That kind of thoughtfulness meant so much to us. The whole experience took about 30 minutes, and the dresses provided were beautiful. You can choose your vibe--from more modest "madam" style to a more playful look--but everything is tastefully done and covered. The location is perfect, right next to Howard's Restaurant. Pro tip: go early (around 11 AM), get your photos done while your hair and makeup are fresh, then walk over for lunch by the creek. The woman at the desk stared blankly when we walked in, we asked if she was about to close and rudely said she was and told us we could come back tomorrow-we went down the strip and came back about 1.5 hours later and all the lights were still on, an open sign in the window on and the open sign was on the door as well. read more

Somewhere in time is a old timer photo speciality photo place located inside of elks places off the popular downtown parkway strip of Gatlinburg. My family and I were browsing the strip when we decided it would be fun to Do a old time western photo. We had never done one before and thought that it would be cute to get one with us and the five girls. We ended up just doing the photo with me and my 5 daughters as the pricing from 6 people to 7 people was almost double the price as it moved us in to group pricing. Despite my youngest being only 2 months old she counted as a full person and the lady would not budge off that set group pricing rate. It annoyed me more than my wife and my girls still really wanted to do the photo and my wife said she would rather it be me and the girls so we made that decision. After early frustration and hesitation I will say this was a fun experience. I had a feeling the lady was going to be difficult to work with based off the group rate conversations. However she was actually really kind, helpful and was great with all five of my girls. Part of the the fun for my girls was trying on all the bright colored and pretty dresses. And then getting to choose their props. They got us all posed and she took a serious photo and a smiling photo. The photographer was really good and professional. She got some great shots. We ended up paying another extra and getting both the serious and smile Poses and paid the extra five bucks to put on the "wanted" poster backgrounds to add to the old western theme. Pricing for it was about $70 after tip. So not bad at all. We've done mini photo sessions before with one to two poses and it didn't have the fun theme of playing dress up that my girls got to experience. So not bad when you take that into consideration. Overall I was originally hesitant and hoa Wyler annoyed. But it needed up a great experience. The photos turned out great and we are very happy with them. Also this is slightly embarrassing to admit but with our catch busy schedules and running this was actually the very first photo I've had taken of me and my 5 daughters all together. We stopped in here and asked- and we are so thankful we did. Family owned, she has her own grandkids posed all over the walls. Knowing how to work with little ones, she didn't give our guy any time to even argue with a decision, he was dressed and she was giving him accessories before he even knew what was going on! He was just happy to be a cowboy. If I could changed anything, I would've bought every picture instead of just two, but we'll be back again on our next vacation! i think this is the 2nd review i ever written in my life but this was ridiculous. 2 of the workers were really kind. one of them was incredibly rude to me. i came in with my cousins and was very excited to take these pictures for my grandma to surprise her. the lady was staging us girls for the photo and i jokingly asked if im allowed to hold one of the empty whiskey bottles for the poses. she took a deep breath and then went on a rant to me about how impatient i am and how ive been nonstop since the second we got inside. and then she said she bets that im the reason that we all came in and i made everyone go in. like its a bad thing im giving her business and was excited about it? i got extremely embarrassed and all my cousins went wide eyed as we all made faces and tried to figure out if it was worth staying. then she asked me what prop i wanted to hold and i quietly said i didn't care because she was so rude to me the first time. then she goes "i don't care what you want it doesn't matter." my cousin and i kept looking at each other so confused because she was only rude to me. not anyone else. it was the weirdest experience ive ever had and i can genuinely say she made me feel horrible about myself. would not recommend this place to anyone unless you are willing to risk embarrassment for being excited. read more

We stopped in early to get prices as we were walking the streets sightseeing.. Becky welcomed us and answered all our questions and they had the best price. Later that day after checking a dozen different places we came back and Becky took our pictures. She was amazing and had us laughing the whole time. AVOID this business like you'd avoid getting the Covid virus. Lindsey was the picture taker for us on Sunday June 7, 2020. We walked in first thing she does is not ask but tell half our party to leave next thing she begins yelling at a 4 year old for going near the props. Great start right. NO SIGNS posted outside of dressing room about taking pictures with cell phone so I took one, she again very nastily told me not to so I didn't. Then came into the main room and proceeded to start an argument with me in which h she stated there were 100 other businesses that took the same type photos we could go to ( half the group went to the others). I asked for the owners name and she complied but then started in on me again so I left the shop, immediately called the owner Tracey who refused to hear anything once I stated my name and I was calling to speak with her about an incident with her employee Lindsey......she immediately hung up on me. After going to another business of the same type we were told how many complaints they get about the awful treatment customers receive after entering that store. PLEASE avoid being treated so badly, having your children yelled out. Take your family to any other old time photograph establishment where you will get better treatment, much better quality photographs for significantly less price than this place charges. Even Lindsey seems to recommend going to the other photograph businesses. I wanted to post this so others will know what happens when they walk thru that door. It is rather surprising to read all the negative reviews going back many years and know these people are still in business, still treating wonderful people, families and children as awful as as they do. read more

The young lady (Olivia?) who was helping our group of four was great, lovely, and professional, it was her first day and she was still being trained. However, the woman training her was the worst human I've ever encountered. She was instructing the young lady on some things and looked at one of my best friends and said "Don't take this personally" then told the young lady that "for bigger girls like her (goes to my friend) you need to take the boa and props and situate to hide their fat, they will thank you later" So incredibly rude. I was shocked. I noticed the mom's jaw drop (her family was waiting to get their pics after us) in amazement of this woman's crassness. My friend ended up crying later because of this insensitive woman. There are a ton of these photo places in Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, chose any one of those over this one. Also, for our goofy picture the beast woman told me not to make a particular face that is my go to goofy face. "you'll regret it", I haven't regretted it in any of the photos I've done in the past. If I could give this business less stars I would. The owner (later who I found out is the son of the owner) is the most rude and discriminating person I have ever met in my entire 46 years of living. We went to this "old time custome photo shop"with my parents (married 47 years come september) to have some "FUN" custome photos taken for their anniversary. My mother wanted to dress up in a costume as a madame and have my father, myself and my boyfriend be putting on dresses as she held a fake shotgun at us. When we walked in the helper was walking from the back area of the shop. I politely asked if he was still open (8:30pm) he said in a rude voice "for 30 more minutes" I asked if that was enough time to do a photo,, and he replied by tossing a photo album of options. I asked if he could do what my mother wanted and with a rude and very discriminating look on his face he said "whatever you want" (I really cant wirte in words the look on this boys face and the way he was treating us.) We decided to leave and told hime he was very rude and I would report him to the owner. He replied "I am the owner" I replied "you should be ashamed to treat customers like this and we walked out. Upon leaving a young couple was walking by the entrance and I said to them that the "owner" of this establishment is very rude and I would shop somewhere else, they replied that they had a similiar experience earlier in the day, how starnge was that. At that point the "owner" came out with this long walking stick and batted it in his hands and told us to keep moving and get off "HIS" sidewalk or he would call the police. I said call the police, I have done nothing wrong. he went back in and then came out again with the stick sorta of raised over his left shoulder. My family got very frightened by this action and we moved on. I am reporting this business to the Chamber of Commerce. This was a very threatening situation, and got the feeling that he bullies alot of people. I also feel that when he realized that my partner was my "partner" and not my friend he became very homophobic. I have confirmed his action with a server of a nearby restaurant who says that he is always like that and that she would tell his father??????? read more

I wouldn't say they throw themselves at your feet at this little shop, but I certainly had no trouble with politeness. My husband and I (we're a young gay couple in our 20's) went to this little shop after visiting Christ in the Smokies, also in Gatlinburg. We browsed through some books, a lady was working the day we were there, we saw a rather risque pose of a cowboy with only a neckerchief on and a hat over his privates with his wife sitting on a old saloon bar top in an old dress. Well, we thought on it and changed it up a bit, I wore a western outfit with gun in holster and a riffle over one shoulder, also had a long whip in one hand wrapped around my husband who had only a pair of boxers on (well two pair actually -- for security precautions in the shop), covered in one picture by a cowboy hat, the other the hat was on the bar and a sign that read "Still Hitched" in front of him. We chose the ones we liked, got a great price, couldn't have asked for more. The only thing I didn't like was that we bought an old fashioned matt for our picture and she taped the picture in, let them know ahead of time if you're OCD like me about things like that, but no damage -- it peeled off fine, I always have that done after I scan the picture for archive purposes then have it done professionally at the Hobby Lobby/framed. We had lots of fun and no discrimination that day, the lady taking out pictures also seemed to have a good time, she was middle aged. Highly recommend over the 3 Bears Country Store, the year before when my husband (fiancee at that time) had a old fashioned picture done we had it done in Pigeon Forge at the 3 Bear Store, 1 pose, 2 8x10's, one in sepia, one in aged color, one old fashioned matt, the price was; $38.00. At this little shop in Gatlinburg, better quality pictures, 3 poses, 1 - 8x10, 2-5x7's (different poses), we left them in Sepia, and one old fashioned matt, the price was about; $32.00. read more

If I could give this business negative stars I would. The employee working was one of the rudest people I have ever met. My daughter has some special needs and whenever we go to special places like Gatlinburg, we try to get old time photos done because she loves the Victorian dresses. We went in and the lady was behind the counter and didn't even acknowledge us even though there was no one else in the store. Most places like this have their dresses and outfits where people can see them because of course if they have nice ones that should make people want to take pictures with them. This place has all their costumes in a different room and when I asked if my daughter could see them the lady literally threw a book of pictures on the counter and said those were the choices. These weren't in color so she couldn't see the color of the dresses. I politely explained that my daughter liked to see the dresses because part of what she enjoyed was dressing up in the pretty outfits. The lady rudely and loudly interrupted me and said 'No, you pay before you get to see them. I really don't care whether you get a picture here or not, if you don't like it, go on down the road is the way I look at it'. Me and my boyfriend came to town for weekend and decided get one these old time photos done. Now I saw the first review for this place and was shocked wondering how a person could be all that horrid. Not one stand for homophobic people in general I made it a point check this place out with my boyfriend see just how bad it really was (and give them piece of my mind while I was at it if they were that bad). Now when we got there there was a guy working with long hair and bit shaggy beard working now I do not know if it was same guy as before but he was not near as horrible as expected from last review. He had us pick what it was we wanted to do from some example books so we checked them out and found few ideas but in the end just said we wanted get somthing done at the bar just an gunslinger for me and my boyfriend decided go the saloon girl and fishnets look. The guy got us ready right away the dressing part was pretty quick and simple he gave my boyfriend a few dresses to pick between and got me dressed up as an outlaw. After that we came out to the bar and he helped pose us we did two poses with few pictures of each. From there we then got to pick our favorites and it was all pretty relaxed not overly pushy like some salespeople can get in that town he just showed the pictures and let us decide which we wanted. I gotta say I was surprised the guy working was pretty easy going and worked with what we wanted to do in the end we left with an overall pretty good experience.
