terrible customer service no return calls terrible information wasted a whole day probably will not trust these folks

Today was the second time I came in to service my bicycle at SOMI Bike. The team is lean, but friendly - and very efficient! I dropped by on Sunday, so it wasn't busy and I was in and out in 20 mins. I also think the service is fairly priced in comparison to other bike shops. The service at MAC Cycle was so disappointing and elitist. I think the team at SOMI Bike is kind, down to earth and very helpful. I would definitely recommend to anyone looking to service and/or buy their bike. read more

I took my 30 yr old mountain bike for a tune-up. It was dirty, chain was "crunchy" and the brakes screeched. They gave me back a new bike!! They cleaned it (it even looks like they waxed it), removed rust, chain is clean and smooth and brakes are quiet. Honestly I was shocked. WhaGreatwonderful job. Turnaround time was 2 days. Bikers beware - this place will try to take you for a ride. Recently dropped off my bike for a tuneup as my preferred local shop wasn't open for service during Covid. I would have been better waiting. The service took 5 days later this originally I was told, and the worst was each day I checked in more bikes were getting in front of me. When I picked up the bike, I was told they did me "a favor" by not charging me for a piece and to come back if I didn't like the grinding noise my bike now made. I was told all I needed was two new used tires and it would be gone. I returned 2 weeks later (1 ride) later because the bike was not shifting gears properly and I sounded like a tank on the road. When I arrived, no one in the store had any idea what was going on, but they told me it looked like I needed a tune up (see above - they just did a tune up 2 weeks before). After 4 straight days of being told the owner would call me, I went in to pick up my bike and take it elsewhere. They had no record of my bike and tried to charge me for another tuneup. I cannot warm you enough, stay away from this place. They run a poor business and it will cost you more money, time and frustration in the long run. I am so thankful my preferred bike shop is back open, accepting service appointments and willing to help! read more

Staff was more interested in construction project and eating lunch that attending to customer needs. I sat outside in the sun for over 30 minutes (due to Covid restrictions) on a 5 minute adjustment only to find out they forgot me. When the minor adjustment to one brake was done the staff didn't care to take the time to explain the needs and overcharged. Good luck with customers in the future. I purchased two bikes from them in the last 5 years (one in early 2020). I will purchase from other nearby sources in the future. read more

This local shop has become my favorite bicycle store for all my cycling needs including service of my bikes. Their management team is very helpful and knowledgeable. Some people might post negative comments without taking into consideration that overall customer service had been affected in all businesses industries including bicycle stores because of the pandemic. Sometimes might take a while to get a specific part for a bicycle and the owner doesn't understand that because is just a bicycle, right??? Wrong I had to wait for almost a year for a frame ordered not counting wheels and group set. All these wasn't the store's fault but the manufactures that delay production. So why blame your local store for something that they have no control over??? read more

A friend of mine recommended this cloud 9 gel saddle since I had been having a lot of pain in my sit bones and she raved about Somi Bike. I called and sure enough the gentleman told me they only had two. He held it for me until I got out of work. As soon I got there they were quite busy and yet I was able to get in & out. Fast and friendly service very centrally located in South Miami. I for sure will be back for other cycling needs. Not sure why all the poor reviews. Another bike shop even recommended these guys, so I would discount the other reviews. I had to get my road bicycle unpacked for Smart Ride 18. They fit me in order to make the ride. My bike was setup perfectly and they even told me a bit about what to expect on the ride route. Shop had everything a serious cyclist would need along with great service. read more

may 8 2024, very bad service, I went to this place for a tune up and new tire, one of the issues was a leak in the front brake, they explain me that I have to replace the disc because the metal absorbed the oil and the disc is contaminated, This explanation blows my head, three days later I went to pick up my bike and was a disaster they didn't make a tune up a lot of noise every were, they charge me $214 for nothing, don't come to this place if you want an excellent services. read more

I had walked in to inquire what bicycles they had available and before I could finish what I was saying I was brushed off with " most of these won't fit you" and then mentioned they were in some price range, I forgot what exact price she had said but it's just foolish to assume that i am shopping for myself and that they are out of my budget. New to the bicycle world but I have been riding sport motorcycle all my life , went in for a quick rear break pad replacement and paid $14 for the part and ($35 labor) for a two minute job I could have done myself . I guess the employee thought I wouldn't realize its completely over priced . On the other hand went in to bike tech for a even bigger repair which was a chain repair and adjusting the lever that holds the chain after it bent and paid only 10 bucks for the chain clip and another small part and only $15 for the labor on a 15 minute job by someone who is actually a master mechanic not a regular employee that's never ridden mtb in they're life like the guy at SOMI. Love this place, the staff is very helpful and knowledgeable... Adrian is always eager to help and educate me as I am fairly new to cycling. You can pretty much find all of your bike needs in this place from inner tubes to helmets, socks, maintenance and even wash! You can tell these guys love bikes and enjoy the sport. HORRIBLE & OVER-PRICED! All I needed was a tune up for my bike and they quoted me $200, not including parts. For example, they suggested brand new chains, instead of cleaning them and oiling them. Also, a brand new seat because one of the screws broke. This would have totaled up a time up for $400. Thank goodness I found a smaller business with more experience and they quoted me $95 for without having to replace very good parts. read more

We just purchased a used bike and needed a couple of parts and whatnot. My husband and I arrived when the shop was empty, early morning. Not one person attempted to assist us. Once the cyclists came in soon after with their fancy bikes, everyone ran up to their assistance. If you don't have a fancy bike do not even bother Going to this place. I wanted to changes some rusted out screws and the guy told me it wasn't worth it and walked away. Worst service ever! read more

DO NOT GO THERE. They take every customer's business and then half-ass all the work. I went in to replace one of my shifters and to straighten my rear rim. They ordered the parts and recommended a "Major Tune-Up", claiming that it was purposed for setting the bike ready for the road. It took me 32 days to get my bike back. Every time I called was a different story about how the parts had not arrived. Then, days after retrieving it, I noticed that the bike had not been maintained with any form of lubricant grease; it had just been washed. The rear rim was still bent with a few loose cables. Paid $90 ("major tune up") for basically washing my bike. I took the rim to Brickell Bikes and they were able to properly fix it for $25. Overall, I ended up spending $265: ~ $95 for Shifter. ~ $25 for a cheap Handlebar ~ $20 for Labor ^ ~ $25 for Handlebar Tape ~ $90 for Washing the Bike or "Major Tune-Up" ~ $10 Taxes. My Bike was not ready for the road after all that spending (*no discounts)... and 32 days. THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT THEIR CUSTOMERS !! read more

Customer service rating: -1. Bike Service rating: 2 (1 lowest, 5 highest, -1 abominable) Somi is different from south miami bikes - new owner and thats when quality left. First time product reviewer also - felt I had to like many here. Seems we all experienced similar behavior. I went because my gears were skipping but they charged me for a full tune up. Picked up bike past deadline - a day late - and as im taking bike home, gears are skipping but also not my brakes are shimmying on stop. My tire also popped - i wouldn't have mentioned but seems reviewers have had tire issues. I thought it was strange but just changed it. That wasn't happening before. Also they didn't allow me to keep receipt stating that someone could come back and say they didnt recieve their bike back by reshowing the receipt after they had already picked up bike (why even patron people that you be believe will resort to conning the shop or are thieves until proven innocent??). I took bike back to shop - wondering if brake needed another adjustment from their first adjustment - i had no shimmying issue on store - bike previously stopped spot on. So now a second visit is required. My rear cog in back looked good and had no dull tips but they changed to fix skipping gear, my original problem, though now after service i have a shimmying problem. (Note when i picked up bike they were leaving - i saw bike techs in parking lot and i told them gears still skipping and also i have a brake issue when stopping - they said bring it back tomorrow - fair enough). Second service cost me more - bought new 8 speed cog though my cog was still relatively new and looked in good condition but they didnt charge me labor. Fair enough. They said they adjusted brakes - give it time to settle. Two weeks of giving time to settle, i went back - gears still popping and bike still shimmying - now the bike feels like a bike you get from Walmart. It rode so terribly that i went and bought 2020 trek xcalibar 9. I decided to take bike back to shop expecting a 'lets look into it'. This would be my first interaction with the owner - not a people person or customer oriented. The rude owner, instead of offering to look into it, interrogated me in a rough, accusatory manner, asking did you get service here - 'show proof' (they kept receipt), 'i never saw you here' (i guess people with originally priced $1500 bikes scam for free service these days), i had to respond to him with - who was he speaking to in such a tone. Once finding i had serviced bike there (techs admitted they remembered me) and being interrogated, he kept shifting blame to somehow it was me - i had ridden bike and dropped it (it had rained all month so i didnt have chance to ride more than 5 hours). The owner was arrogant and assumed I knew nothing about the mechanics of bikes - i'm an mechanical engineer and have 10 bikes trek/specialized steel/alum and full carbon mountain full suspension and hard tails between 1996 - 2020 and have built a couple from the frame up and when finally seeing he wouldn't fix but charged yet another fix that would solve skipping gear issue. I went to another bike shop (4-5 miles south of Somi) - the cycle mart of miami - and they found issue (gears skipping) was a $15 issue of my crank being lose and needed to be tightened. I paid over $500 in total and did i mention - my fork is why the shimmying is happening - but wasnt before which means the bike was dropped while in their care and my fork now needs to be replaced - another 300+ for a $15 tightening of pedal crank...outrageous - i wanted these guys to be the real deal as they are close to my favorite m trail, but i offer - stay away from this shop - even if they were good you would want to avoid the owner's behavior of arrogance, making the customer feel like they are conmen until they prove they are innocent and pitting blame to avoid admitting mistakes may have been made. read more

This bike shop is terrible. They lie about turn around time just to get business. You go inside and it's social hour for the employees. They told me my bile would be ready the next day in the afternoon so I show up at 3pm which is late afternoon and my bike had not even be touched I told them how this is a issue because I live on the beach and you said my bike would be ready in the afternoon. Long story short to get me out of there they promised a discount! The next day when I went to get my bike I asked the guy in the front for my discount it happened to be the owner which refused to give me a discount and frustratedly telling me how it's impossible give me a refund for mechanical work Not to mention I think they bent my rotor. I went in there to get my tube changed didn't take my bike just the tire by the time I went to put the tire on the bike there was no air in the tube and somehow they had given me a tube with a hole in it. I miss placed the receipt because I didn't think something like this would happen from a reputable store and not only was I sold faulty merchandise but when I tried to make my claim I was treated rudely with a guilty until proven innocent kind of attitude from the presumable store owner. I understand certain policies of the shop but the treatment that I received from the store coupled with the fact that I was sold a broken tube, mean I will never step foot in this establishment again, nor do I recommend it to anyone read more

Worst customer service experience ever. I usually don't write about my experiences, but I feel like I should let everyone know about this place. First of all, we recently visited to change what we thought was a flat tire and came back about a week later for the same reason, same service. The reason the tire was flat was due to a hole in the inner tubing. That's fair. But for it to be the reason I'm visiting again in such a short amount of time makes me feel a little suspicious about the service which is fair as well. Of course I wanted to understand and verify what happened if it was the service or me actually riding over something, so I started politely asking questions such as, what could have happened and is running over something the only reason it happened on the same tire? The only response I got was, "It just happens very often, I ride my bike all the time and the same thing happens to me, and if it was because of our service, you'd find out in less than a day." Ummm, first of all I didn't ask you about how many times you ride your bike, and clearly I don't understand why it happened again. I ride my bike everywhere too, my roommates ride their bike everywhere and we take the same path and they have not visited a shop for the same problem I have. Then I started trying to go deeper into the reason why this tubing has a hole and asked, "Well, shouldn't the tire have an actual hole?" And the representative replies saying, "I mean we can't see, it looks like it just went in and out." Huh? What does that even mean? I'm not a bike specialist. I feel like he should have done a decent amount of explaining so we didn't feel like we were getting jipped. Aside from that we wait while another man does work on the bike. Finally, we get towards the end of the entire service, and are getting ready to pay. I'm not sure if the sales rep thought we were standing in line to kill time, or we enjoyed listening to his conversation with a friend. But we stood in line for literally for 5-7 minutes while him and his friend are yapping away about some personal experiences. It got to the point where I asked, "can we pay now" and all he responds by saying is "yeah, sure you can, your bill is $30 something". He didn't say something, I just forget the actual amount. BUT HOW RUDE. That explains my experience at this bike shop. Bill came out to about $30+ to fix a break handle bar + inner tubing. Pricing isn't bad, but if you're coming back in less than 2 weeks, it adds up. read more

I brought my Schwin cruiser for a tune up, and the guys that work there were honest and did in a good job for a reasonable price. Cheaper than Mack, and they don't treat you like scum because you are not a professional cyclist like Mack does. They easily could have upsold me, because I didn't know what I needed. The technician took the time to explain to me what was done, and how the new style brake system that is on my bike works. I had just come from their competitor who tried to sell me a new bike, rather than fix my old rusty bike. Jean, at South Miami Bike Shop, was extremely informative and helpful. He explained to my why he didn't recommend the type of bike they had tried to sell to me, which made so much sense after he explained it. I asked Jean to show me what he had, but then I decided to repair my oldie goldie. They did an excellent job refurbishing my old racing bike. The price was very reasonable and much cheaper than their competitors down the street. Jean even went so far as to do a little cosmetic work on my van for free! Seems service is hit or miss by the other reviews. My two times in the shop have been a miss.( the guy at the register) Walked in with cash,ready to buy a bike that day. The guy at the register was really not much help at all, they only had a few bikes for me to look at in that category. Not much interest in helping me. For a beginner that doesn't know what he's looking for, you need someone to really give you direction. Didn't feel comfortable at all so I ended up going to Mack cycle down the street. Night and day. Super helpful over there. Not only did they have a lot more bikes, but they had used rentals as well. People there were super friendly and helpful. First Time I went here they were friendly and offered to order what I needed. I called yesterday looking for a headset and a quill extender and brought detailed drawings and sizing of what I needed. The guy at the counter was short with me, and argues with me that my sizes were wrong. I am a retired machinist. I know how to measure with a caliper. I know the difference between 1" and 1 1'/8" he had no idea what I was talking about and was not interested in helping me whatsoever. Since when is business so good that you can be rude to a customer and let them walk out the door without helping them? I owned a number of retail businesses over the years and the reason we were successful was great customer service. I sure won't be back here for anything. read more
