This review is for the Mich-Mosa Fest at SOMO Village on July 19, 2024. The band, Zebop!, a Santana cover band was great. Sadly, everything else was a giant FAIL: One we paid $64 to enter there was a 1 HOUR PLUS wait for a drink that was included in the price of admission, 30-minute pius wait for food, and all the time waiting on the Sun. Pro-tip: buy the "designated driver" admission for $20 and get your buzz on "pregame" in the parking lot or at home so you can relax and enjoy the music and not WAIT IN LINES. Such a giant FAIL. This could have been done SO MUCH better. Get it together SOMO Village. read more

Very loud concerts in a neighborhood area of Rohnert Park, nearby residence have to deal with loud concerts passed noise ordinance. 10:45 on a week night is too loud for a residential neighborhood. This review is for our first-time visit to attend an event at SOMO Village Event Center. My husband and I saw UB40 for the first time on Wednesday night, July 27th, 2016. WHAT TO KNOW - SOMO Village Event Center is an OUTDOOR event center in Rohnert Park. It is a $1 billion, 175-acre mixed-use redevelopment of a former Agilent campus in Rohnert Park. - Parking - for this particular concert, PARKING was FREE, which we really liked! There was VIP parking available which could have been purchased ahead of time, but the regular parking was just fine for us. You drive into a complex of several buildings and there are very large, paved parking lot areas to park in, which are well lit and marked. A+ for the parking set up here at SOMO. - STAFF - very nice and HELPFUL. We picked up our tickets at will-call, which was under some tented booths by the parking lot to the side of the main entrance. The security staff at the main entrance were also pleasant when doing the security check on my purse. - BATHROOMS ARE PORTA POTTIES! - There were no indoor bathrooms here at the event we attended. I think this is good to know ahead of time, especially if you're like me and you *abhor* portapotties. There was a loooong line of people in line waiting to use the unisex portaptties, but the line moved pretty quickly. There were plenty enough of the portable units, see photo. I am a *total germaphobe*, so I got in and out of there as soon as possible! Also, foot-pump HAND WASHING STATIONS outside of the portapotties were provided, which I thought were a nice, necessary thing to have. - FREE DRINKING WATER - I thought this was a nice touch that they offered FREE drinking water in environmental little cups. Ample garbage cans located throughout, which was also nice. - LOW-BACK CHAIRS - Yes, you can bring your low-back chairs to place in the rear grassy area as we did, but you won't see much of the stage from there. We were in general seating and we ended up standing as close as we could before the metal gate barricade in front of the reserved section. And of course, I needed room to DANCE! It was all good and fun. - NO VIDEO SCREEN - For this particular event, there was no video screen to see the performers. - BRING A SWEATER because it was quite cold and windy here in Rohnert Park at night in July! Also bring a backpack if you need to for your concert-going stuff. - VENDOR BOOTHS - there were about a dozen or so vendor booths selling food, shirts, and all kinds of stuff that appealed to the attending crowd. THE LOWDOWN We had a fabulous time at the SOMO Event Center at the concert we attended. The sound quality was very good, the staff was helpful and not intrusive, it was an environment that was conducive to fun, a well organized event, it was environmentally friendly, there was free parking, and it was a very FUN place to be. great physical space but management seems to have no professional event experience. Long lines no thought to how to feed a large crowd efficiently. Really people you dont want hangry customers! First time at this venue and didn't quite know what to expect. SoMO Village is a small outdoor venue with free parking, easy in and out. Security check was lenient and permitted blankets and lawn chairs to be brought in for the event . I didn't bring any snacks or sealed beverages this time but I'm sure you can with ease. I enjoy small venues because it feels more intimate and this was it. Small outdoor venue with a few food trucks, two areas for alcoholic beverages for purchase, lots of portable potty stalls right when you enter the entrance, a few fireplaces for people to gather around to stay warm and watch the flames on a beautiful night while their favorite artists are playing . The lawn areas had nice green grass people had their blankets and lawn chairs out to chill through the night made this venue atmosphere felt relaxing, chill and even a camp feel to it. I had an amazing time watching Stephen Marley played the night I was here. read more

SECURITY review; or complete lack thereof. We attended the Charlie Musselwhite and Buddy Guy concert. Very long slow line to get in, aprox. an hr. We assumed there was heightened security due to the recent Gilroy shooting. WRONG. I opened my handbag and he simply peered in, I could easily have had a handgun. The woman in front of my had a huge tote and he pushed the bottom up once from the outside!! Anything could have been in there! We heard several people saying they were astonished it was so lax... the entire concert we saw one fellow w an MT blue t-shirt. Near the end of the concert, 2 local policemen​ showed up. We complained to them and they said the venue hires their OWN security. GET WITH THE PROGRAM, we want to be protected and we count on you to do it. read more

The longest beer line ever!! Underbands sound was awful. Headliner was fortunately much better. A narrow rectangle venue with poorly thought through layout. Needs some flow control and food n beer service lines, there was just no excuse for only 4 bartenders for that size crowd. May rethink going to future events here. read more

Nice venue, good location and the staff was nice and helpful they at least smiled. We definitely be back. The grass area is not very large but still a great place with lots of vendors and great food. The free water served in cups is a huge help with these events and made all the difference. What is a great plus is that they have plenty of restrooms with hand washing stations. I emailed you on 9.20.19, following up on my Facebook comments. My husband and I bought 4 VIP tix to the Ultimate 80s Party on 9.14. What a ripoff that turned to be. One bartender and one cashier for all of the VIP attendees. Plus, we were being charged more at the VIP bar than the other bars. A friend of ours complained, and the prices got changed. My husband waited in line at the VIP section for 70 minutes for drinks. And he wasn't the only one waiting a long time for drinks or for the bathroom. We paid over $400 for tickets, food and drinks, and all I could think of was, "What a waste of money." Mind you, you have a great venue with great concerts, but because of how poorly prepared SOMO is for said concerts, we probably won't be back. read more

Went here for E-40, Andre Nickatina, Nef the Pharaoh, and OMB Peezy concert. It was awesome. Food and drink was easy and fast to get, located in multiple locations throughout the event. I still got to enjoy the concert while in a short line. The mixed drinks were well made, the craft beer was cold and well poured, and the food vendors were absolutely lights out. The open space is definitely best for standing, but you can bring low to the ground lawn chairs or blankets to sit on as well. The sound system was killer. I saw another review here in which a person was complaining about the noise level at their home about a mile away. I believe them. The acoustics were great as well. Staff/Security were great. All were friendly. The security did what was needed to keep everyone safe, but was by no means overbearing. Then there is the bathroom situation. Yes, I called it a "situation." The bathrooms dropped this to a 4 star review. It was a huge line of Porta-Potties. Normally this could work, but the area that they are located in is very poorly lit. A phone light is needed because when you step in and shut the door, it's pitch black. Mix that with a bunch of drunk people and you have one hell of a mess. I felt super bad for all the females there, lol. If the bathroom situation were to improve, this would be a 5 star review. read more

Attended SOMO for first time for Ultimate 80's Party. Music line up was killer. Good sound system & stage set up. They were very good in getting the groups on & off stage & keeping to time schedule. My ultimate complaint is if you bring in wrong type chairs they will not let you in with them.We offered to sit in back so as not to block people. No way said security. I cannot sit on ground or low chairs. He suggested ADA section. These chairs were same height as our other chairs. We also saw chairs similar to ours once inside. BTW they let anyone in this section which has best stage sight lines. Probably will not be going back. read more

Fantastic venue, have been there many times. The Ultimate 80s concert must have had 7,000-10,000 people. We went for the VIP tickets $$$$ with "private bar". BS. What a sham. ONE person mixing drinks, ONE person taking orders. The. Entire. Night. A total of SEVENTY (70) minutes in line for a beer. Did I mention they then insulted us "VIPs" by charging $2 more per drink than the "cheap seats"? Yep. We called them out and they gave us the right price. What a joke. Shameful, because they allow no outside food and beverage (understandable), but then give you pretty much no way to get a drink. Get it together, because you have a great venue. Too bad you offer nothing else, especially service. SOMO, your service sucks. read more

We attended the concert series on 9/14. The bands were great and the venue lay-out great but you all have got to get it together with your food and beverage service. No one wants to stand in line for an hour (in both the VIP and general seating areas) to get a drink. It totally killed the night and we left because of it. The food trucks also had a long lines, (wing man specifically) served very mediocre quality food for big prices. read more

I have to wonder if I perhaps wandered into a different event center than what other reviewers are raving about. This "concert venue" features several broken up lawn spaces in the courtyard of some very unattractive office buildings. These lawns are where the general seating (you provide your own seating) are located. The only one you can even see the stage from is in the center, up front and unsheltered from the blazing sun upon arrival at 1:30 pm. The VIP seating was located off to the side, back a ways from the stage, also in the blazing sun and consisted of very uncomfortable looking folding chairs on risers. Glad I didn't pay extra for those! I ended up on a back side lawn that was shaded but had no view of the stage. I guess I could have enjoyed just listening but the sound system was hardly worthy of a supposedly professionaly produced concert. The concert in question was the 2016 EarleFest that I attended yesterday September 17. By the time the headliner, Lucinda Williams, came on (an hour late) it was dark, windy and freezing sitting on the grass (even with a blanket and jackets). We left after 3 songs. By then I had had enough of the cigarette smoke wafting over from the designated smoking area and the slamming of the nearby portable toilet doors . Oh, did I mention that the toilets and smoking area were located within a few feet of four food vendors. How appetizing! I guess I should say something positive. The concert staff were friendly and polite. The El Coyote food truck was excellent. Seriously if Sonoma County thinks this is a first class concert venue it is more backwards than I thought it was. By the way, until very recently I lived in this county for 36 years so I'm not a spoiled city slicker from the outside. I've actually seen much better produced shows with better sound and seating at County fairgrounds and some of the smaller theaters than this one was. Had it not been an annual fundraiser for the Earle Baum Center for the Blind I would want my money back. I hope this deserving non-profit did not pay an exorbitant sum to hold this year"s EarlFest at this dreadful venue. read more

This review is for Somo Concerts: I had the pleasure of seeing three concerts at Somo this summer: Brit Floyd, UB40 and Michael Franti & Spearhead. The outdoor area they close off between Sally's Tomatoes and some seemingly empty office/retail buildings was a shocker. I couldn't believe what I was seeing.. It was the perfect amount of space for a great little outdoor venue. This is exactly what Sonoma County was in need of. Moving here from the east coast I was surprised to see that this area had nothing like this... Until now! This county was in a serious lack of decent music often. I don't always want to go to Petaluma for a barish venue and I have to wait forever for anything good to pop up that would be worth driving to the Fox in Oakland or the Bill Graham in SF.. And YES.. I am comparing this place to them. All I want to do is drink a good beer (or cider thank you Sonoma Ciders for always being there) and listen to some good music while being close to my hole in Occidental. They have an upgraded VIP section where you can pay like 50 bucks to have your own bathroom, bar and seated section.. Which I opted for twice. This venue is so awesome that it gets 4 starts regardless of the obvious faults. These things I am not so please with are: Shows only during the weekdays? What the heck? Is it the only way to keep it cheap and bring big bands to RP making it during the week or is it something with the location? The one beer tent for UB40. Come on. You should have known. At least you figured it out for Spearhead.. But then you made me think I should buy a VIP ticket when it really wasn't needed because you added another beer spot. At UB40 I could literally get two drinks, get back in line and be done with the drinks by the time I got back to the beginning of the line. The bathrooms.. The portable bathrooms were ok.. Pretty clean.. But at times there were just not enough. Awful lines trying to get in. So long and clearly there was a bigger problem going on but eh.. Saying that you only allow low back chairs.. Then allowing all kinds of chairs.. Like whoa.. I can't bring a stroller for my child but you are going to let someone bring giant chairs and block my view when I went to buy a tiny beach chair to be a good customer? Even with the obvious issues this venue is still pretty awesome and whoever is picking the line up needs a high five. You've got a repeat customer in me.. But I will expect the continued efforts to make this venue continue to be awesome and grow. read more

Not ready for prime time. Sprung for VIP thinking, for the price this must be awesome. WRONG. There was an overall lack of organization and planning. I don't know what organization runs these shows, but they certainly didn't bring their 'A' team. Entry began late and the gates were totally understaffed. Once in, the VIP section was a joke. Wooden platform/risers and no chairs. It was set off to stage left, further back than the entire ticked seating section. The section didn't even face the stage! Although the venue instructions said we couldn't bring chairs to the VIP section many people were allowed to. We were able to snag some folding chairs from a rack near the bar but nothing had been set up. Went to get a beer in the VIP bar. About 10 people in line for ONE bartender who was making cocktails as well as beer and wine. Very slow service. They ran our of some of the wine selections before the music started ands had also run out of chilled bubbles. The food lines were even worse. Slow lines and marginal food. Since they don't allow any outside food, these were the only dining options. (the doors opened at about 4:30 and music lasted to after 10, so not eating was not an option. there were three options and only one line at each for the entire venue. We waited 45 minutes. The VIP experience ended up costing about $115 per ticket. When comparing this to any other music venues in the area it is sorely lacking. The VIP experience is a ripoff. read more

We are so lucky to have this venue in our hometown. Great acts. We didn't have to wait for alcohol or restrooms at all. Such a great selection of food and drinks. Wonderful atmosphere. Bring a jacket for evenings. Parking was great. No complaints here. read more

terrible lines for the few porta pottys for an entire venue, 2 beer lines for the whole place which they ran out of and no signs pointing you in any direction to find uber, or anything after the show. Took us all around the desolate area of a field and an hour to get an uber. Ive seen hundreds of concerts and venues and this takes the cake for the worst. Not sure I would go back. read more

Inconsiderate of the community, having audio way too loud on the hottest night of the year when everyone has to have their windows open to cool down. Mile away and am sure they are breaking sound ordinances which wouldn't be tolerated if it was a private citizen, guess outsider dollars matter more than your local neighbor. When I inquired with them regarding this they sent a dismissive post saying their events were allowed adding they hoped I would join them soon, then requesting I like their Facebook page. read more

I attended Earlefest this year held at Somo. My second time at this venue, I had a great time, I loved the floor being wide open for dancing etc, lots of vendors. Bathrooms were relatively close by and easy to get to. Musical acts were superb!! Parking was great. It was a warm day, found some shade close to the stage, got to rip it up just like the old days!! This is a venue I will definitely be visiting again!!!! read more

My husband and I saw Brit Floyd, The World's Greatest Pink Floyd Tribute Show at this venue. The venue was GREAT. Outdoors. Easy to get to. Plenty of parking. The staff was friendly and helpful. The concessions were yummy! Especially the hard ciders infused with subtle hints of bourbon. Actually, everything was PERFECT. We will definitely attend more shows. read more

The physical venue itself was nice. However pretty much everyone who worked there was a a$$. We went to the box office to check for our ADA seating we requested ahead, and the woman made us walk all the way around the barriers, while she opened the gate for herself and waited for us at the ticket taker. Seriously? The ADA seating was, I'm not kidding, a boxed cage with a giant sign saying DISABLED. I was shocked and I said something like "Wow, it looks like a cage!" And she snarls "Well, you don't have to sit then!" Turns on her heel and stomps off. D8. You need sensitivity training, lady! There was ONE handicapped portapotty, which itself is scary, and we went up to use it and the security person was all "You need to go to the back of that huge line!" And we were like "We're using the handicapped stall." And she goes, and I am not kidding, "Whatever!" And walks away in disgust. We all looked at each other like, WTH?! Cranky butt head people. Also all they would let people use were the Portapotties even though it is an event center with tons of bathrooms. A$$es. read more

We saw RDGLDGRN, The Green, Soja and Dirty Heads last night and this venue is amazing!! Small and personal. Lots of opportunities to meet the bands bc the way the grounds are set up the bands mingled a lot. The only advice I have is to add more beer areas for general admission. The alcohol and bathroom lines were ridiculous. The VIP area is private, shaded, private bar, private bathrooms, there's a front row fenced in area for VIP. I'm so happy we went that route. The meet and greet was so cool!! Everything was super organized. I did feel bad for the people standing in line for alcohol and to use the bathrooms outside of VIP. read more
