After living in the area for years, I had never tried Sonia's Seafood. I finally went with my family, I'll admit against my will, and I was pleasantly surprised by the food. There was a 30 minute wait to be seated. We initially asked for the seafood sampler, but our waitress told us it wasn't available. Oddly enough, when we ordered several of the items from the sampler individually, they were all available, which was a bit confusing. We ordered drinks, the margarita was well made, and the appetizers were fresh, flavorful, and exceeded my expectations. The service was on the slower side, although our waitress was friendly and did her best. Midway through the meal, it started pouring rain, and things became chaotic. Several guests had to move tables because parts of the outdoor seating weren't covered, and the roof had multiple leaks. It was an uncomfortable experience for those affected and took away from the overall atmosphere. So, is the food good? Yes. Was the overall dining experience enough to make me want to return? Probably, no. Good food alone isn't always enough when the service and dining environment leave something to be desired. read more

Got so many ads on socials so I had to give it a try! I decided to swing by with my family while they were in town. We came by got happy hour and enjoyed discounted beers along with their oyster specials. The beer was cold and oysters were fresh from Louisiana. We also ordered calamari and chicken fingers which were both good! The service was great! Folks are very attentive from the parking lot to the hostess and waitress! The vibes are pretty cool too. As soon as you get out of your car there is a park attendant that has an umbrella opened to make sure that you don't get wet from the rain. I ordered a Sonia's Seafood sampler and it was a great choice. My favorite part was the grilled shrimp. My family and I chose the seafood fried rice and I had to ask for Camila the server to remake the food because it had way too much soy sauce. I wasn't a fan of this meal and she didn't look like she wanted to return it to have it remade. I would have liked for them to ask me if I wanted something else but it wasn't suggested. I didn't like the fried rice. I did like that there was live music and the gentle man sings great. They have a portion that you can buy fresh fish but I noticed it was overpriced. So happy we found this little gem only a couple miles from the Doubletree we stayed at pre-cruise. Open air and such a friendly neighborhood hangout vibe. You could tell many of the guests were repeats. Pedro Daniel was our excellent waiter and was so friendly and attentive. Thankfully he recommended the Corvina grilled and we loved it. Started with a beautiful Ceviche Mixto and oysters on the half that were perfect. What a nice surprise too, that on weekends they have a Cuban gent singing. He was wonderful. As we left, I noticed the Market part of their business and was able to buy my 2 bottles of wine for the cruise as well as a bottle of Flor de Cana for the hotel room. Great prices too. read more

The food was simple and delicious. The ambiance reminds me of the late 80's when we used to have an entire beach day with an early dinner before sunset. The service....well I had higher expectations because most employees there are my people- per se. Hispanics are more vibrant with big smiles and great laughter. However, the waitresses appear to be pressured instead of comfortable dealing with the public. The server was much more gracious than our waitress. The only reason I'm not giving this a 1 star review is because our servers were amazing, the atmosphere was actually pretty cool and the appetizers were at least decent. My wife, mother-in-law and I decided to come here after a evening of shopping. I was excited as I was looking forward to eating some good seafood. However, after some good appetizers, our time there took a sour note. We had ordered a paella, but were left absolutely disappointed. The paella was pure tomato sauce. The seafood was all overcooked and rubbery. The rice was severely undercooked. There was absolutely no other flavor to taste besides the tomato. After speaking with our server and the manager, they knocked the paella off our bill. Again, if not for the staff and appetizers, this would be a 1 star review. If we had to do it again, we'd only order the appetizers as that's what it seems like works best here. If you enjoyed your time, amazing! My husband had never been to Sonia's. I had gone many years ago with a friend of mine. My husband is Cuban and loves to support local spot so we decided to go in and give it a try. They have redecorated since I came a few years ago, and there was a lot of Covering from the sun, which was good. They had a deal for five beers, which was pretty decent so we took advantage of that. The restaurant had flies buzzing all over the place, which is not appetizing. My husband ordered an entire fish that he was able to pick out. The fish was prepared. Well, he did like it. I had shrimp which is OK as well. This place is very pricey for the location and what you're eating. We spent $200 on just the two of us which is what I expect to spend when we go downtown or to the beach not on eighth Street. This restaurant makes you feel like you're by the beach or in the Keys (I even saw sunbathing iguanas). They have a beautiful outdoor seating area with a band and a seafood market. I came during lunch and the lunch special is excellent - $12 for an entree, two sides and a fish soup. Unfortunately, our server forgot our fish soup but the entrees were large enough. The food itself was very good but the service was a little slow, especially since it wasn't that busy. Parking is a bit of a struggle as well since the restaurant is on a Main Street. The Restaurant is highly overrated, nothing crazy it's very overpriced, we paid $295 and all we got was 2 hogfish platters and 1 appetizer, 1 beer & soda, again nothing crazy, the fish was good but again not worth the price tag. Parking is improvised, had us parking in the grass by the freeway, service is what ever not fast nor slow.
