But this burger from Shake Shack was surprisingly very good. I ordered from the self-serving kiosk and the wait time for my order was about 5 minutes. The entire restaurant including the counter area, dining area, and even the condiments station was all very clean and inviting. I ordered the Double Shack Burger made with two smashed angus beef patties, American cheese, and topped with lettuce, tomato, onions, pickles, and Shack Sauce on a toasted potato bun, an order of fries and a 20 oz bottled drink for $24.79. A little step, but of course, all menu items are à la carte, and this is airport dining. The bun was fresh soft, and lightly toasted. The burger patties were nicely smashed, hot, juicy, the cheese melted and all the condiments were fresh, cool, and bright. This burger was prepared with care and assembled beautifully to create the perfect burger. The crinkle cut fries were perfectly cooked, lightly salted, and golden brown. So a cheeseburger for $10 and a double for $13 seemed like a deal. I went with the double and the ordering and pick up process was quick. Although I will say staff did not seem friendly and more robotic than anything else. But nonetheless I got my food quick. The ambiance is nice, they have a bar to sit and enjoy a beer while you wait but I had to catch a flight. The burger was relatively small to what I was expecting. I had to double check to make sure there were two patties and the slice of tomato was paper thin. I still golfed it down as I was super hungry and it was pretty good. My biggest complaint was portion size but maybe because it's suppose to be "quality" beef that's were they jack up thr price or maybe it's because of it being located in the airport. Who knows. My burger was warm and my customization's were correct but my Cry+Fry was no where near hot and fresh...I would have settled for warm but it was room temp at best and was not good. Most of it went in the trash. Overall the experience was not enjoyable. They do have a full bar and draft beers if that's your thing and also dedicated seating for their location with plugs to charge your devices pre-flight. That's the best thing I can say about my visit to this location. My advice to you: find somewhere, literally anywhere else in EWR to grab a bite or a drink. You'll thank me later.

The burger meat was dense, overcooked, and a bit liver-y in flavor. Yellow cheese, a slice of tomato, some onions and lettuce. The chocolate shake was good. Creamy, rich, nicely chocolatey, like softened ice cream. The paper turtle-friendly straw doesn't really work; ask for a spoon (and so much for avoiding plastics). Disappointing.
