Decided to jump off the highway to grab something to eat before our road trip home. Waze said 1.1 mile but it ended up feeling more like 11.11 miles. Finally made it and went to the car hop side. Pushed the button and the screen indicated someone will be right with you. We waited 7 mins and not a soul came over to greet us or say anything on the screen. Someone came beside us and he was greeted immediately. We heard the person saying the boards were not working and to come thru the drive thru. We decided to go inside. The food didn't take too long. It's the first Sonic I've been in that I didn't actually smell the food. I ordered onion rings with my meal. Whatever they fried the onions in taste like funnel cake batter. I tried to enjoy them but they were also over cooked. I was very very hungry so I ate what I could but the first time not being totally satisfied with Sonic.

You are likely to find fresher food in your nearest dumpster. Recently moved to the area and was nice to know there was a sonic in the area but instantaneously regret event ordering from here. Is this suppose to be a "crispy chicken sandwich" .... with "fresh" lettuce ?

I had driven by this location on Route 1 so many times on my way to New Jersey Nets games but resisted stopping in because i knew i would fall in love....well, the romance has finally blossomed! On my way back from a Soundgarden concert (yes, they are back!) late on a rainy Friday night my friends suggested going here because the food is "epic" and so we drove on through. They are open 24 hours but it was past midnight and it had been raining hard so there was no service to the car. Regardless, the food here rerally is epic. I ordered jumbo popcorn chicken with tater tots and a coke, my friends had a loaded burger, a breakfast burrito (serverd any time of the day) and some pepper poppers. All the food we ordered only came out to 21 bucks, which is a steal. I don't know if it's because of the late hour, but we were skimped on condiments. I was given one small buttermilk ranch cup for a huge box of popcorn chicken which wasn't enough and no ketchup in the bag. You may want to ask for these when you make the order. The menu is pretty massive for a "fast food" joint and it could be overwhelming to look at for the first time. All types of burgers, hot dogs, chicken, breakfast and other bites. They also make different slushes and shakes that look interesting! Best of all is everything is pretty cheap! Sonic is great and needs to come a little closer to NYC. This location in Elizabeth is the closest and is a 30 minute drive from the Brooklyn side of the Verrazano bridge.

Until recently there wasn't a Sonic in NY, and even so, the only one is on the Southern side of the middle of nowhere, so suffice to say I've not had many Sonic experiences in my lifetime. Whenever I would see a Sonic commercial I would be filled with a mix of sadness and rage that there wasn't one anywhere within a reasonable driving distance. I did get to go once about 10 years ago in New Mexico and that almost doesn't count since their menu was completely different. I assume a New Mexico state law states that at least 25% of the menu items need to come with green chili. Seems like it anyway. That Green Chili Sonic burger was good. So about THIS Sonic, it wasn't bad. Its nice and all to have people roller skate out to your car, though this means you need to add a tip to the cost of your meal, lest ye look like a douche bag. (we were already too close to the Jersey Shore as is) As for the food, the burger I got was pretty good, and it was nice to have a pretty decent set of condiments and extras. The tater tots were decent, but the standout item for me were the cheddar stuffed jalapenos - the filling actually tasted fairly close to real cheddar, and they were very tasty. The best part of the meal was the strawberry limeade I got - yes there were slices of lime in there, but better, there was real strawberry pulp! That was so good. I'd go back to Sonic, but since I live in Queens, probably not to this one.

Sorry No Food Yet, Still Waiting; I would leave, but I already paid; this is my punishment since I shouldn't be eating this.

Although my choice of food for breakfast is an unusual breakfast choice, it's refreshing to have the food taste the way it's suppose to taste. Im usually satisfied with my food at this location and feel that other locations could use them as training guide (see my other Sonic reviews). My onion rings were cooked to perfection & so was the popcorn chicken. My one & only complaint was that it took extremely too long & made me late for work, had I not already paid, I would have left; therefore today's visit gets 3 stars.Bon Appetite!

$1.00 menu! Def get the hash brown!

I freaking love this place. Too bad it is not located in NYC. It would have been a big hit here for sure. Prices are great and drinks are really good. I actually like their burgers. I prefer this over McDonald's and Burger King anytime!!! Staff roller blades to your car!! Too COOL!

Burnt hotdog, not edible at all. Bread is also hard and stale!
    Mindy L.

Worst sonic ever!!!!! Got a coney foot long hot dog to go. Didn't realize until I got home that the entire hotdog was burnt and inedible!! I can't believe they would even serve someone something that looks like this! It's despicable, somebody needs to get this sonic location in order or else it's giving sonics everywhere a bad name. Where's the health department?? Never coming back to this location in Elizabeth. Rather pick up something edible from the Wawa next door.

From past bad experiences with burgers and product quality issues in many different airport restaurants, I normally don't order burgers because they are always cold, dry, tasteless, and downright horrible. But this burger from Shake Shack was surprisingly very good. I ordered from the self-serving kiosk and the wait time for my order was about 5 minutes. The entire restaurant including the counter area, dining area, and even the condiments station was all very clean and inviting. I ordered the Double Shack Burger made with two smashed angus beef patties, American cheese, and topped with lettuce, tomato, onions, pickles, and Shack Sauce on a toasted potato bun, an order of fries and a 20 oz bottled drink for $24.79. A little step, but of course, all menu items are à la carte, and this is airport dining. The bun was fresh soft, and lightly toasted. The burger patties were nicely smashed, hot, juicy, the cheese melted and all the condiments were fresh, cool, and bright. This burger was prepared with care and assembled beautifully to create the perfect burger. The crinkle cut fries were perfectly cooked, lightly salted, and golden brown. This was by far the BEST airport burger and fries I have ever eaten. Date of Visit: Saturday 05-03-26 Shake Shack | Newark Liberty International Airport | Terminal A

Quick and Inexpensive option while at Newark Liberty Airport…read more I was starving and decided to stop at BurgerFi since after checking other food spots nearby and almost nothing was less than $20. So a cheeseburger for $10 and a double for $13 seemed like a deal. I went with the double and the ordering and pick up process was quick. Although I will say staff did not seem friendly and more robotic than anything else. But nonetheless I got my food quick. The ambiance is nice, they have a bar to sit and enjoy a beer while you wait but I had to catch a flight. The burger was relatively small to what I was expecting. I had to double check to make sure there were two patties and the slice of tomato was paper thin. I still golfed it down as I was super hungry and it was pretty good. My biggest complaint was portion size but maybe because it's suppose to be "quality" beef that's were they jack up thr price or maybe it's because of it being located in the airport. Who knows. But it still is the best deal that I saw for a quick bite.

As I was leaving NJ post work trip, I was excited to see a location in Newark Airport...I wish I had gone elsewhere. Rolling up to the counter, it took a total of four tries to get my order taken because one of his co-workers kept coming over and messing with him and interrupting/distracting the employee literally mid-sentence. Once I finally got my order placed I made my way and found a table. The wait for my Breakfast Burger w/ Veggie Patty and an order of their Cry+Fry took quite a bit of time...but totally worth it for my order to be made hot and fresh. Wrong. My burger was warm and my customization's were correct but my Cry+Fry was no where near hot and fresh...I would have settled for warm but it was room temp at best and was not good. Most of it went in the trash. Overall the experience was not enjoyable. They do have a full bar and draft beers if that's your thing and also dedicated seating for their location with plugs to charge your devices pre-flight. That's the best thing I can say about my visit to this location. My advice to you: find somewhere, literally anywhere else in EWR to grab a bite or a drink. You'll thank me later.

The Thrillist said it's the airport's answer to Shake Shack. Huh? Answering what question? It's cheap. A burger with a giant patty is under $7. But it was sloppily made from mediocre ingredients. The burger meat was dense, overcooked, and a bit liver-y in flavor. Yellow cheese, a slice of tomato, some onions and lettuce. The chocolate shake was good. Creamy, rich, nicely chocolatey, like softened ice cream. The paper turtle-friendly straw doesn't really work; ask for a spoon (and so much for avoiding plastics). Disappointing.
