Went here with my family was super satisfied with the food. Went with 6 people and 2 of these was more than enough food. The ribs were very good great flavor and meat was super tender. The chicken was very juicy and had great flavor. The brisket was okay but I'm not a huge fan of brisket to begin with tho. The shredded pork was very good one of the best things on the plate. The steak fries are well seasoned. The corn bread is amazing. The corn was super soft and delicious. The beans are very good sweet. The coleslaw was also very good. First time walking into famous Dave's. From the outside it's incredibly deceptive. It looks as if it's been abandoned however, when you get inside, you smell deliciousness we did not like the coleslaw of everything. The ribs were delicious. The chicken wings were also good not fried as hard as we would've liked them, but they were tasty. The cornbread is delicious. You will get it with your meal thoroughly, thoroughly enjoyed the catfish fingers and it comes in a meal as well so delicious. The service was quite good. The manager on duty (from Woodbridge) was just fantastic!! Upgraded this review to a four because we did go back the next day for lunch and we had another terrific experience and good customer service. This time the restaurant was a little bit more occupied and I want to encourage everyone to go support famous days. this is the last remaining location. I use to love famous daves!! I went recently went with family and while it was good it def was not the same and im not sure why. The brisket was just ok and the catfish was good. Everything on my plate was great. The brisket was melt in your mouth tender, the sausage had a little kick but not too spicy. The corn and mashed was great as well. T-mobile was having deal at Famous Dave's so I took advantage. When I arrived I parked in their private lot. I walked in and the manger showed me where to go. I went to the back to a worker that didn't seem too happy because of all the deals from T-mobile he was getting. I ordered my pulled chicken sandwich and a side of mashed potatoes. If you've been to the BBQ holy lands of Texas, Kansas City or North Carolina Famous Dave's can't possibly stand the comparison but in New Jersey, this chain smoke house is better than it has any right to be. Portions are generous but heavily sauced because drowning, while messy is certainly effective - ribs, pulled pork it really doesn't matter, alert the lifeguard, your meat is going under. That said, the sauce is tasty and sweet with a nice burn and the sides (beans, fries and slaw) are terrific. I've decided that evaluating every meal against "the best I've ever had" is pointlessly unfair since Famous Dave's was both enjoyable and left me in dire need of a laundromat... your can't ask much more of any BBQ, even in Kansas City. Pace yourself for the massive platters; don't use all your points on the enticing free spicy potato chips. The meat was the best of the worlds; with a dry-rub on the tips and a thin glaze on the ribs you get a pure hit of meat and smoke. Then if you're in a sauce mood the table has a vast choice, but if you have tough time making decisions how can you wrong with Devil's Spit? With a name like "Wilbur Beans" and a secret recipe, I maybe expected a little more from the beans. I ordered the Founders Feast $18.49, I figured it comes with a little bit of everything and I'd have some leftovers for lunch... it has 3 St Louis style ribs, Georgia chopped pork, roasted chicken, coleslaw, baked beans, fries, corn on the cob, and a cornbread muffin. I enjoyed the ribs as always topped with some of their sweet and zesty sauce, the rest of the sides were ok... I ended my feast with my delicious corn muffin... they're the best. I packed up the chicken and chopped pork to go. It was a quick rib dinner to hit the spot, friendly service and pretty good food for the price. Mostly good- few misses that could be just this location: Wanted to try 3 things and their appetizer had 2 of 3 I wanted/ I asked if I could switch an item and they said no.. So I did the pick 3 dinner ($21) with : Chopped Pork, Burnt Ends and Catfish fingers with fries and beans / corn muffin came with .. now for the hits... Corn muffin was amazing! Soft, sweet and more of a dessert- but delicious! Also the fries were surprisingly nice - thick steak cut with soft centers... The catfish fingers were my favorite- crunchy with nice taste. Beans were good but had less beans than meat and a lot of sauce/juice... that's a good thing but would have liked more beans and less sauce.. Now for the misses: Chopped pork was very tender and good but a bit put off by all the fat that comes with chopping! Some may like it but I didn't - personal preference. Still very good if you like melty fat. The Burnt ends were inedible! Hard, not soft or cooked, rather overdone. Lots of gristle which added to chew but instead of tender, blackened bits of beef it is chopped hard cubes that I couldn't even finish. If there's a next time I'll likely get the catfish and chicken... 3 sauces were good with lingering heat that lasts after the sweet wears off (sweet and zesty, Rich and sassy and devils spit) Rich and sassy was my fav! After another visit at Famous Dave's I will never go there again. I placed an order online and still had to wait 30 minutes because the food wasn't ready. They forgot some things in my order and we had to wait even longer. And when I got home I realized there were other items missing. The food you get looks nothing like it does on their website or their professional Yelp photos. They skimp on the meat and the sides are small too. For many many years when we still lived in NJ, we went regularly to Famous Daves on 22 in Mountainside. It was our go to after church, for family gatherings, for birthdays and when company came to visit. We have not been for several years, having moved out of the area. Visiting our daughter here, We went to dinner there Friday night. WHAT A HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT. The restaurant has been remodeled, and all of the homey decor and pictures reflecting its roots in Northern Wisconsin have been stripped away. The menu has changed. The restaurant was almost empty on a FRIDAY night, while I remember waiting an hour and a half for a table most times we came. The bartender had to be pressed into waiting tables and I saw the manager serving as well. Almost nothing was gluten free, whereas I used to order a lot of things. There are only 3 sauces now, the ribs were ok, not succulent as they used to be. They did go out of their way to bring me brisket without the sauce so I could eat it. Errors were made, the host was surly, the poor bartender/waiter was frazzled, and all in all it was just NOT the famous Daves I loved and missed. What a shame. read more
