I typically really like sonic and their food options. Their cherry limeade is one of the best and they always have great tots! This location just seems to be sold out of items every time we've come and the drive-thru tends to have a super long line. The service is always friendly here and during COVID the drive-thru is still open but the individual stalls were not. read more

Took about an hour to get our food and I didn't see a single person on Roller-skates, talk about terribly disappointing. No wrong I feel like that's one of the only reasons you go there. Unfortunately, this is the closest Sonic Drive-In to me so I don't go here too often. This is a classic Sonic set up with many drive up stalls for people to order and receive there food. There is also a more traditional drive through as well for those who don't want to park and eat. There's also the option to park and walk up to the window and order. This location tends to be busy, so be ready to wait during the whole process. When you pull into a stall and are ready to order, you click the button. We had to wait a while until someone actually took our order. Then the waiting game begins. It took us probably around 20-30 minutes to even get the food to our car due to the high traffic. Don't expect the park and eat stalls to be quick service if it's fairly busy. If you need to go, I would definitely suggest the drive through instead. My favorite thing to get here is the limeade. The limeade is super tasty and is quite affordable for the sizes that you can get. The food is decent - again lower your expectations. I loved that the pretzel came WITH cheese sauce at no additional cost. The mozerella sticks also came with marinara sauce. Chili cheese fries and chili cheese tots are delicious, but be prepared to just get a modge podge of stuff on top of your potatoes of choice. About half hour wait to get through drive through, the except no cars in front of us, just us, there's like 5 workers hanging out and one poor girl that seems to be the only one working. They let car after car come to car hop and sit there after pressing the button for like 15 min before hey answer that they are drive through only. It's one of those places you come just to come. It's on the way to LA from San Jose, and one the way home from the beach. You just stop to stop. Is it the best? no. Is is pricey? yes. Why do I keep coming?! Not sure. They have a cool concept where you can drive up to the stalls, park, order, eat in your car and leave. If you aren't doing that, then you can go in the togo line, or even park your car and order on their outside stalls to dine outside. Either way, you have options. The food. Well, I usually get a regular cheeseburger, but I soon realized the bread over powers the patty, but when I get a double, there's just too much meat. No win there for me. I love their lemonades and milkshakes, that I will give it to them. It's not hard to mess those up, so were good there! Other fried items? Came here at the start of a road trip & ordered $60 worth of food for a car full of hungry people. 30 minutes later, they bring 2 bags & we discover we're missing 3-4 items. We pressed the button MULTIPLE TIMES...each time, they assured us, "someone will be outside." We watched the drive thru and at one point, it was completely empty. There is no excuse for this type of experience. It is now an hour and 20 minutes later, and they finally advised it was in the process of being made. Horrible service. Made a drive from SJ just to try out their promo offer from their app. When I arrive the app would not work, so I proceed to try the drive-thru. The first thing the employee said at the drive-thru monitor was "cash only and we only have milk shakes". I asked well "How about the slush drinks?" and he replied "yes we have that too". I love the commercials. There isn't a Sonic near me so I couldn't wait to try it. The rave reviews were from people who don't know what fresh food is supposed to taste like. My husband had the double cheeseburger and said it was "okay". He also ordered the strawberry limeade and fries; both okay, nothing special. I ordered the toaster bacon cheeseburger. It was really dry, and super sweet. The patty was dry and didn't taste so fresh without the condiments.The onion rings tasted like they were fried in cake batter. Too sweet for us. All I wanted was a cherry limeade. And that was fine. But everything else was pretty sad as far as the eye could see. A Sonic Drive-In is where my significant other fell in love with cherry limeades, so I had to stop at one on the way home from our road trip to LA. I've definitely read (and written!) some stuff on how Sonic's candy slushies are supposed to be one of the most unhealthy fast-food/fast-casual menu items in the United States, and boy, looking at the calorie counts on the glaring menu board really proved it. It was cheap to get our drink, but was it good for us? Nope. We ordered a side of fries to make ourselves feel better about sitting in a drive-in for one shared drink. The fries themselves were lukewarm, limp, and bland, and to be honest, a waste of the roughly $2 we paid for them. A few pieces of burnt breading from the popcorn chicken made it into our bag. If you would have a problem with that, skip the fried foods. Service was pretty eh. Sonic. I panic. I v**it. Their drive-thru should hand out directions to the nearest ER. The commercials are pure fiction. We stopped for "a fun late night snack" coming home from LA and we were thrown into a world of darkness of cold meat and French fries like shoes laces on the feet of the victim. I ordered one of the grandiose shakes and I was greeted with cream like Elmer's glue and ice cream that was pure regret. It didn't taste friendly. No wonder I only go here once every 8-10 years. Well, if it wasn't for the funny ads and pretty colors on TV, I wouldn't have gone. But I did. Surprising to me, you have to order from a screen..no personal contact, just the speaker. Then someone comes out to bring the food. It's a glorified, retro drive-up that serves the same stuff you can get at any other fast food place. Cheeseburgers, hot dogs, corn dogs, fries or tater tots. Really, the burger patty was thin. The tater tots, which I love, I can get in the freezer section and make my own. Catsup comes in a small package. At Sonic, you either sit in your car to eat or sit outside on one of 6 tables. We ate outside, but the Gilroy wind was up and we had to anchor our stuff down with the drinks. I didn't even try a slushy or ice cream thing...too many artificial food colorings. Sonics is a horrible guilty pleasure. The drinks are good but they can easily be made at home and the food is trash but you'll eat it anyways and hate yourself a few hours later. Helpful hint: bring tums and a lot of patience. The Gilroy location: This spot is ran by high school and college students so don't expect much with customer service. Things would run so much better if they had adult supervision and leadership. Any takers? I ordered 3 Route 44 drinks, one cherry limeade, one diet limeade with peach flavoring and one diet limeade with the blue coconut flavoring, The woman over the intercom repeated out order and the order matched on the screen. 40 minutes later, I'm still waiting for my order so I hit the red button to check up on my 3 drinks. Another woman is on the intercom and I let her know I already placed an order and wanted to know how much longer because I've been waiting for a long time and I had an appointment to go to. She then says, "it's a 30 minute wait, did you still want to order?" I repeated myself slowly and she says, "So what do you want?" Frustrated, I reply, "I want to know how much long will I have to wait for the 3 drink I placed over half an hour ago." I guess she finally understood my question because she responds with, "Oh we have people bringing out orders now, it'll be 5 minutes." My brother really wanted the drinks so I waited. After a total of an hour of waiting, I hit the call button again and this time it was a guy. I Informed him that I've been waiting for an hour for 3 drinks that have not been delivered yet. This guy actually checks on my order and comes out within 5 minutes. When I get home, only one of the drinks was correct. The drinks I got were a regular coke, a strawberry coconut limeade, and a blue coconut limeade. What sucks more is that they don't accept online orders. read more

Went on a Sunday evening with my daughter. We decided to stop by to check this place out and find out what the commercials are about. We parked and started ordering our food, the employee taking my order told me to speak louder, I can't get out of the car and reach the speaker. When we received our food, our order was wrong. I asked for no ketchup on my burger and no pickles on my daughter's slider. We ordered a couple of lemonades, there was no flavor it was so watered out. As I drove home 3 hours home from Kettleman City, I had my heart set on Popeye's yet I pulled into Sonic. I ordered the car hop special, cheeseburger and medium onion rings for 2.99. I expected to wait forever because they had a long drive thru line but the cashier soon skated out with my food. I asked for ranch and he retuned quickly with that. He was very friendly and genuinely happy about working. The onion rings weren't greasy, but they weren't piping hot fresh. The burger was fresh off the grill. It was very juicy and they lettuce and tomatoes were fresh and a nice addition. The last Sonic I visited was a horrible greasy flavorless mess that scarred my love for Sonic. Instead, we get...we are only serving through drive thru AS our neighboring stall is putting in his order. I spoke with the person handing yet another customer their order. Sonics always seem to be a must coming from LA back to the bay. It's fast food. It's not fine dine and the food is sometimes good and sometimes okay. It's definitely an interesting place for a quick meal but it's a treat 1) because it's terrible for you and 2) it's not too close to home I've ordered the chili cheese tots and the last time I had it, it was super greasy and "old oil" tasting but today was good! Not greasy at all and just the right amount of chili cheese sauce New York hot dog was okay, a basic hot dog with sauerkraut and brown mustard. I've only ever had bad experiences here :( it sucks bc there's not many Sonics around and the mozzarella sticks here are always just a solid lukewarm chunk of cheese & they never give us the sauces we ordered thru the app. They once gave us someone else's order and we had to wait another 45 mins in line to get it correct and even then the quality of the food we do get is poor. First time trying Sonic! We were in the area and decided to give it a try. They have a cool stall order menu area. You pull in the stall push a button, place your order and decide how to pay. Then someone will bring your order out to you. They also have drive thru and sit down options. My reason for 3 stars, they had a really hard time hearing me. I ordered a corndog and ended up with a hotdog. I didn't say anything. The hotdog wasn't bad. The hubby got a burger with tots. He said the burger was good. I tried a tot, too greasy for me. We also got strawberry lemonade and a strawberry slushie. Both were good but they do add real strawberries and it's hard to get through the straw. If I'm in the area I will probably try again. read more
