Nation's Giant Hamburgers & Great Pies I grew up eating at Nation's in Fremont, so when I stopped to get gas nearby, I had to check out this newer location. Walking in, the restaurant was spotless and looked brand new. The pie display immediately caught my attention, and the menu was easy to read. The staff greeted me right away and were friendly throughout my visit. What I Ordered Cheeseburger Combo I ordered the cheeseburger combo with fries and a soft drink, and chose raw onions over grilled. The burger tasted just like I remembered. Fresh ingredients, a homemade feel, and the same classic flavor that has kept people coming back for years. French Fries Hot, crispy, and the perfect side to go with the burger. Pies I didn't grab one this visit, but seeing all the fresh pies on display definitely convinced me to come back. Next time, I'm bringing one home for the family. It's always nice when a restaurant stays true to what made it great in the first place. These days it's either In N Out or Nations now that I've been here. I think they've updated their brand. Check out the box it comes in. The pies look amazing. I got a whole pie to go so I'll let you know next time what I think of it. Food (5 stars) + The cheeseburger took me right back to my teenage days--thick patty, fresh iceberg lettuce, tomato, and onion slices that make the burger. Been meaning to come here for awhile since they opened in San Jose. When I lived in Hayward I would often visit that location. The burgers are great, and pretty large compared to most burger joints. Prices are a little high, but they have a pretty extensive menu. Their prices are great, but I don't remember their prices being so high for pies. Still, good food. read more

Came here to pick up pies and it was NOT a mistake. The service was so friendly, it was a young dude who was on his second day but providing the best customer service. The pie was delicious! We chose banana and chocolate cream. Yum! Inside is very clean and there are some tables outside for you and your pet. read more

This place has been open for a while but first time I get the memo so came by with the gang for lunch. I knew I wanted a patty melt and found one on the menu. I asked what the ingredients are and the cashier told me. I omitted the thousand islands sauce for mayo. I also ordered the chili fries. I got a cup of water and waited for my order. I browsed the pies while I waited and filled up my water cup. Once my order was ready, I heard my number called grabbed my tray with food and sat at an empty booth. My sandwich was delicious but after a while it becomes too much cheese and meat. I wasn't able to finish the whole thing. The chili fries were served on this large plate. A handful of fries and a small serving of chili not warm enough to melt the cheese. I did not enjoy the flavor of the chili or the fries. I came back a second time and tried their burger, and it reminded me of a burger you can eat at A&W. There wasn't much flavor to the burger, and I wasn't able to finish half of it. This visit I also purchased onion rings and those had to be some of the most delicious onion rings I have ever had. I really enjoyed them. This visit I got an apple pie and the pie didn't have much flavor. The crust and filling left nothing to be desired. It's located in one of the busier plazas in this area. Parking can be a complete mess at lunch. The space is pretty small but still has booths and tables and some outside. Curious to try the breakfast here so I'll be back. read more

I've been to Nation's twice now. Once I got the Patty Melt and yesterday I got the cheeseburger. I also ordered onion rings for a side. I don't remember what my side was the first time. It wasn't notable. So how was it? It was fine, just fine. Nothing spectacular, nothing outstanding, not bad, it was fine...just fine. The restaurant was clean and the staff was friendly. The on screen menus were a little annoying because they seemed to change too quickly and they didn't explain what was on each food item. They do have paper menus but they don't have pictures or prices. Between the two you can figure out what you're getting before you get it. The onion rings were...onion rings. They are no worse and no better than Jack In The Box in my opinion. As far as the burgers being "giant", well, I'd say they are normal size. They are about the same size as a Jumbo Jack or as a Famous Star. The size was just fine. So if you want a fine burger, this is a place to go. read more

It's been more than 10 years since I last ate at Nation's, so ordering from this newer location near me felt like a bit of a homecoming. Nation's Giant Hamburgers is a small little place tucked into a small strip mall behind Chick-fil-A and a Shell gas station. Easy to miss but a great find in my opinion. The menu is kind of eclectic--burgers, breakfast, sides, and pies--but somehow it all works. The cheese burgers (especially with a fried egg) were really good. It was the classic American style which is exactly how I like it. Though next time I'll either hold or ask them to go light on the mayo because mine was drowning in it. The onion rings were solid, fries were just okay, and the chili was a little bland. The banana cream pie, though was super sweet, almost exploding with sugar, and quite tasty. I'd say definitely an old school burger joint who is still around doing their thing. Food was filling and definitely left me full but I feel like the burgers needed better seasoning , not bad but nothing special. Same for the French fries a better seasoning would have made them better. Food was hot and made fresh though Service was nothing bad but nothing overwhelming good. I originally came here because I heard they had great pie. This was so true. I ended up buying a banana cream pie and the chocolate cream pie . (sorry for half pie shot. I started on the pie and forgot to take a picture first. It looks like banana cream pie before you start eating it, so just use your imagination or pretend I have two photos of uneaten pie with one being chocolate) I also ordered a cheeseburger and patty melt. Both were good but I liked the cheeseburger better. This is mainly because I liked the added sides. As you can see they do not skimp on the fixings. If you want pie or good burgers then try them out. I haven't been to nations in a long time. Last time was in the valley 10+ years ago and before that there was one in north San Jose long ago. Being a newer facility I figured they're still trying to sort things out. The over head digital menu was malfunctioning but that was just an observation and am sure it's resolved by now. Not too much seating but the place wasn't really designed for hard lounging. Get in, eat in comfort and go. I ordered a plain cheese burger and requested just mayo and mustard, fries, onion rings and a lettuce wrapped burger for the wife. My burger was perfect aside from there being ketchup but it wasn't a big deal. Juicy, cheesy and the bun didn't get soggy. Fries were crispy and so were the onion rings! Almost perfect burger and fries. The wife said her burger was delicious as-well. All did the staff was nice and welcoming! We took our cups, filled them up and before we knew it our food was ready! I am a huge fan of Nation's since back in the day. We usually go to the Tracy or Fremont locations when we drive back from camping or Lake Tahoe. Unfortunately we do not have a south bay location until now. We arrived at the newest location for an early Sunday dinner recently. Nation's Giant Hamburgers is located in a newer plaza area off Silver Creek in south San Jose. A Chick Fil A and Starbucks is close by. There is easy accessible parking in the medium size parking lot. The restaurant has a nice modern diner decor that is welcoming. There are a few tables and booths inside for dine in and a large outdoor patio dining area that is spacious. A condiments station is next to the drinks dispenser machine. Definitely a nice touch. The vibe is family friendly. We ordered a lot of food for our family of 11. My son and I in particular ordered a Cowboy hamburger and sliders. We also shared fries, onion rings, and 3 types of pie slices, banana creme pie, apple pie, and cheesecake with strawberries with the family. My Cowboy hamburger was fairly large and so delicious. The combination of the bacon, onions rings, juicy patty, and bbq sauce was scrumptious with every bite. All the pies were delectable especially the banana crème pie. I enjoyed the light flaky crust and savory crème very much. Overall we enjoyed our experience at Nation's Giant Hamburgers. The food is fresh and high quality. Service is friendly and accommodating. It's nice to know we have a Nation's location that is so much closer to where we live. We will definitely be back. read more

We made a quick stop at Nation's Giant Hamburgers for a lunch with coworkers. It was a spacious shop that had a wide variety of American food, and I ordered their salmon sandwich. I was pleased to see them have a sandwich that sounded light, and I have been craving seafood more these weeks. Nation's was a lot more affordable than other American sandwich/burger joints I have visited, and the portion size was decent. The employees were welcoming and kind. There was plenty of space to sit, and we did not have to wait too long for our food. They prepared my sandwich generously - there was an ample amount of lettuce and tomato, and the salmon was thick and tasted really fresh. For the typical customer, the amount of sauce was probably fine, but it was a bit too saucy for me. I shared some fries with my coworkers, and they were flavorful. I rode my bike with co-workers here for lunch on a Friday. I wanted a small meal so I can have space for a slice of pie. The breakfast burrito was mostly potatoes, not enough protein. I went in, clean, organized, super friendly staff and saw their pie display, automatically fell in love with this place haha I forgot to take a picture of breakfast burrito and burger that i togo but both were very fulfilling and reminding me of something that my mom used to make it for me when i was young! For those who love hamburgers and breakfasts, the brand new Nation's Giant Hamburger at 5805 Silver Creek Valley Pl, San Jose, CA 95138, Santa Teresa, is the place to go! I've experienced the one in Oakland and Tracy. This one is a bit smaller than those but have the basic same layout. The restaurant has no servers nor kiosks. Cash or cards are accepted by the ordering cashier. The employees I interacted with were very friendly and polite. My favorite items are the pies, and I was not disappointed! The strawberry tart was fabulous! Being a new restaurant, everything is new and spotlessly clean. I really like how all the food is cooked in plain view on a open grill behind the counter. The french fries are excellent, along with other items. They also have great egg dishes and pacakes. Parking can be challenging as it is in a busy complex. Pricing is in line with other restaurants. Nation's has always been one of my favorite restaurants and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND it! read more

I ordered the grilled chicken burger and specifically asked for no sauce and no tomato. It showed up with both. One friend ordered the western burger with no mayo and no cheese. It also came with both. My other friend asked for a few items to be removed from their burger, and none of the changes were made. Really disappointing across the board. read more

Nations Giants Hambugers is famous and this location is a good one. The staff is friendly and the decor is clean, modern diner type. We ordered the original hamburger and patty melt. The hamburger had crisp lettuce and fresh tomatoes, it was a solid traditional hamburger. The patty melt had texas toast type bread with melted cheese, so good! We also tried the chilli fries, which were a big portion and tasty. To go we got a couple slices of pie, you gotta do it if you go to Nations. Super excited that a location opened up in San Jose! The closest was in Fremont back then. Always loved Nations when we were out in East Bay. This is a solid Nation's location. It's right next to the Starbucks drive thru, so parking can be tricky. We've been here a couple of times since they opened and the food definitely is great. The burgers are tasty with all the toppings and patty cooked well. The pie selection is always great. Our go to pies are the banana cream pie and cheesecake. It's definitely more pricey nowadays than before. read more

This is a late post. Every time I have come in the restaurant it is clean. There are small vases with fresh flowers on the tables which is a nice personal touch . I have had 4 different pies: Berry ,Lemon Meringue, Lemon Cream and Banana Cream. All good!!! Pies are hard to find. I still need to try a hamburger and breakfast. Love that they serve breakfast all day long!!! Again hard to find places that do this too. Happy this gem is only a few blocks from my work. read more

Stopped in one day and ordered a Bacon Cheeseburger and chili cheese fries. The burger was okay nothing special. The chili cheese fries were terrible. They put processed cheese over the chili and it wasn't even melted. It looked like something I can make at home. It was also bland and a small serving. I decided to try out again a couple of weeks later hoping that it was just a bad day. Nope, I ordered a bacon cheeseburger and an order of fries. The burger's lettuce tasted like it was rinsed in mop water. The fries were overcooked and tasted like they were sitting out awhile. Not to mention it was another lackluster serving size of fries. We are so excited that a Nation's opened up near us. This is a small location-- but does the job. It opened 2 weeks ago and it was busy. If you sign up for a Nation's account you can get a Buy One Get One for $1 for all entrees. We ordered burgers and a chicken sandwich. True to its name, the burgers are giant. So much so that I would not order fries next times. The manager and also the owner came by to ask us how our food was. What I really liked was that they pack a lot of produce into their burgers-- generous with the lettuce, tomatoes and onions. Also not too heavy on the sauce. I have enjoyed the fresh hamburger meals that I have eaten at this location both times. The last time I came here, I had a blueberry cheesecake with my burger-shake-onion rings meal. This time, I brought my girlfriend to show her this new place for us to eat. She ordered at the counter, I ordered through the Nation's Giant Hamburgers app. My meal was ready for pickup at the precise time that was specified in the app. The food was delicious, so go ahead and try this burger place, it's really tasty! I had the chance to meet the owner, Joe, he was very nice and welcoming, this place has only been opened for six weeks! All of the counter staff were nice and friendly. There are few booths, so come early or order takeout. There is an outdoor area for eating outside for additional space. Had the hamburger (forgot to add cheese) but still enjoyed the freshness with the thick tomato and lots of lettuce. It was nice to bite into a classic burger bite in the era of smash burgers. It didn't have a greasy feel. I will have to go back and add that cheese. A couple days ago I tried the gigante breakfast burrito with sausage. It was delicious. While it was bit hefty, it wasn't as fat as a Chipotle burrito, or a Rosalena burrito. Almost 1,000 calories tho, so it's definitely a splurge. read more
