I had an overall disappointing experience at Sonic. The food was pretty bland across the board. The Groovy Fries were overly greasy and over-fried, and the cheeseburger had almost no flavor. The chicken strips were decent, but not enough to make up for everything else. On the positive side, the banana milkshake and the half-and-half drink were both really good. The person taking our order was also very nice and pleasant, which I appreciated. However, the food took longer than expected, especially considering the place wasn't busy. One of the biggest letdowns was the kids' toy situation. My daughter was really excited to go for the Hello Kitty May collection, but they were still offering a March 2026 toy. After driving nearly 30 minutes, that was really frustrating and disappointing. The food we got was not as we ordered. The burger did not have pickles (which we wanted, and we asked for NO onions and tomatoes, but there were onions and tomatoes on them. Grease may be "the word" but it also appears to be the active ingredient throughout their menu. Okay, I get it, no one likes a food Nazi and every once in a while some oil-sodden crap is good for the soul but just try pulling in and getting one of their Ritalin addicted rollerbladers to take your order in less than twenty minutes. In the last four weeks I have taken a trip to sonic five different times to get ice cream with my family, after waiting in a very long line may I add I was told the ice cream machine had been broken. I am aware machines break down but five times in one month is unacceptable. Whether it's their employees being lazy or the machine is really not working if you cannot provide an item on the menu it simply should not be on the menu to begin with. AGAIN I UNDERSTAND THINGS HAPPEN but it's so frequent it's beginning to become extremely frustrating. The last time I was there I was told because they were unable to make our preferred items they would give up slushes...instead we were given juice that was barely lukewarm. However, after what seems like the 4th or 5th time of experiencing issues with this location I feel compelled to provide additional warning to others. They are FREQUENTLY out of certain items specifically shakes/ice cream/blasts etc. They will be closed RANDOMLY during varying hours of the day during listed business hours. Why is it when I get into a car, my husband and I automatically turn into "Fat America?" Sonic is no exception. Food is underwhelming. Tots are very good. That's about it. Though I didn't order food at this particular Sonic. We went for drink happy hour. My husband made his own limeade with raspberry. I was jealous. You really can't beat a medium limeade for 99 cents. It was the first things my friends and I noticed after a long, tiring, exciting day at Six Flags Great Adventure. Wasted my time AGAIN going to Sonic in Howell NJ tonight. Have been there for the after 8 PM shake and ice cream sandwich special 4 times this season. Out of the 4 they only had ice cream/shakes one time. I will not waste my time again. First timer. Oldest son was on me to check this out. Service was prompt and food was good. A little on the higher scale in terms of pricing for other fast food places, but nothing crazy. Car stalled after deciding to shut the engine down (no idling in the parking area). Lesson learned on my side. Roller blading to the car was a nice touch. We will be back. read more

So my love affair with Sonic began in a little town deep in Tennessee called Bolivar. I had never heard of Sonic, never saw a commercial but was highly impressed by the waitresses skating to the car with your food and drinks. I stopped by one night, had a milk shake and was in love every since. Now fast forward 10 years and I'm still in love. I've been to Sonic in about 4 different states and all of them have been great! After leaving Six Flags we decided to stop by Sonic to cheer us up (I know its sad that we turn to food to cheer us up but whatever!) Some of my friends had never been and they were excited to see what all the fuss was about. We decided to order as much food as possible just to see if the waitress could carry it all while skating in this extremely cold weather (insert evil laugh here). We pushed the red button and the waiter told us "The drive in is closed, you have to use the drive thru." (Abort mission, abort mission!!!). What did I do to upset the food gods? Why were they punishing me? What was the point of going to Sonic if they aren't going to skate out and delivery our food? WHYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!! (Minus 1 star) So we changed our orders, drove around and got our food. I ordered a sausage, egg and cheese toaster with a side of tots. Of course it was good and instantly cheered me up (ahhh yes, the food gods are shining down upon me). Overall: Of course I'm coming back. read more

Very disappointing visit. Staff are clearly very lazy/incompetent. Ordered a bacon cheese pretzel dog and they forgot the bacon and barely put any cheese on it at all. As past reviewers have written before, Sonic had bombarded us for years with its ads. Yet, up until recently, there were very few Sonics in either New York or New Jersey. Since late 2009, however, this Sonic has been open. And, today is the day that my mother, step-father and I decided to take a field trip to Sonic. Even though it's located about sixteen miles from my house, we didn't let that prevent us from visiting Sonic for the first time. As we drove to Sonic, I was amazed by how many fast food joints there are in the general area. I saw 3 McDonalds, 2 Bks, 1 Arbys, 1 Dd, and 1 five guys establishment. Talk about heart attack alley along route 9. When we finally arrived, we began to closely look at the menu since none of us had been to a Sonic before. My mother ordered the Sonic cheeseburger with tater tats and a Pepsi. My step dad ordered the Super Sonic cheeseburger (2 patties) with fries and a Pepsi. And, I also had the Supersonic cheeseburger along with onion rings and a vanilla shake. Simply, it was the best burger I've ever eaten at a fast food joint. It was flavorful, well-sized and scrumptious. The onion rings were pretty good as well. Overall, we all enjoyed our first Sonic experience. The main downside is that there is no seating inside. It does, however, offer outdoor seating. Alas, that's a minor quibble. I am looking forward to going back to Sonic for it's cheeseburger and to try one of their often touted slushes. DAMN YOU SONIC COMMERCIALS!! I finally discovered a Sonic that is on the way to work when I have to go to New Jersey. And man was I excited. SOOOOOO excited, in fact, that I missed the turn and had to drive another mile so I can do the stupid jug-handle turn to make it back. But that's another story for another day. When I pulled up to their parking lot/ordering system, man was I excited. Just a bevy of items to choose from, I was completely overwhelmed. Being a Sonic virgin, I wanted to take it slow and just go with the standard meal so I got their hamburger with tots. Was it as good as I hoped it to be? Not really. Was it disappointing? Not really. I think the food isn't as good, but because of the rarity of a Sonic, my mind was trying to convince my taste buds that this had to be great... So for now, I will give it 3 stars for "average." I quickly learned that you do not go to Sonic for food, you go to Sonic for drinks. No matter how the commercials entice you, no matter how good the pictures look, no matter how you think it's hard to mess up a tater tot...go for the drinks. Now that we've got that down, we can all enjoy ourselves, right? I'm partial to the Cream Pie shakes (chocolate or strawberry though family loves coconut or banana) but have enjoyed a Chocolate Malt and Chocolate Peanut Butter. I also like the fruit teas and fruit slushies but if I'm going to drink empty calories, I prefer to do it with shakes...yum! Don't bother. The TV ads had gotten to me, so I installed the app, placed an order, and we drove over. On the way, I commented that it was nice to be able to "order" the condiment packets. Upon we checked in as directed by the app. And waited. And waited. And waited. The kid finally emerged with our drinks and food. NOT WEARING A MASK. I opened the bag, took out my partner's hot dog, and handed it over. No corn dog. We pressed the button and after several minutes, the voice said that they were only handling the drive thru...then realized that it was the app order. wwe explained that the corn dog was missing. Radio silence, then "we are out of corn dogs. what would you like instead?" A few minutes later the kid came out with the hot dog. STILL NO MASK. The hot dog was mildly warm, and had all the visual appeal of a hot dog from the back of the rollers at a cheap carnival. I will say, however, the mildly warm hot dog was much hotter than the just above cold tater tots. Oh... remember the condiment order? I'd asked for 4 salt packets, 4 catsup packets and 2 mustard packets. We received 9 catsup packets. Only the 9 catsup packets. No napkins, either. I think it will be a very cold day in that traditionally hot place before I go back. Blegh. read more

Those who know me, know that aside from food, I really like classic cars. That said, on a warm spring / summer day, nothing goes better with a drop-top '64 than a "classic" styled drive-in restaurant. Sonic fits the bill, so I often find myself here after car shows, or whenever I feel like taking a cruise around. For those who haven't ever been here - the concept is simple. You pull your car into a parking spot, which has a menu board with a button on it. Once you figure out what you want, you press the button and your order is soon roller skated out to you 1950's style, to be eaten in your vehicle. The food is typical fast food fare here, nothing too crazy or fancy, with a large emphasis on their shakes and lime rickeys (otherwise known as cherry limeade). So how is it? Well, it's fast food. The hot dogs (especially the Chicago dog) are my personal favorite, but don't expect Boars Head quality meat here - these are very obviously el cheapo dogs that are dressed up to taste good. The burgers are much the same, and taste like a Wendy's patty that was cooked on Burger King's grill (so it's a little juicy and a little flame broiled, but still commercial-tasting). The tater tots are the best choice for a side. Shakes are great, with some amazing flavor combos like "Jalapeno Chocolate" and "Bacon Peanut Butter", both of which work surprisingly well together. My only complaint is that I hate that they make their shakes so thick you can't drink them with a straw - seriously, if I wanted ice cream in a cup, I'd buy ice cream. A little bit more milk would make these things easier to suck down. All in all, you don't come to Sonic for the food - you come for the atmosphere and fun of having gone to a drive-in. The service is great, and the food is OK, but the nostalgia is what brings me back. If you want a little more homemade flavor, there's always the Circus Drive-In. read more

Sinus's website says they store open until midnight. Ed arrived at 9:00 pm. Some of the lights were on and done were off so we couldn't tell what was going on. They put cones jn a spot where you could see them until we were right in front of them, so we had to go through them. We could not tell if they were open or not. People were in line at the drive-through. We got in line there was one person in front of us. When we pulled up the person who answered was NASTY! She very nastily said didn't you see the cones? When we said we didn't see them until it was too late to do anything but pull forward. Then she said well we're closed. I said that you website says your open until midnight. She was rude and nasty. This is not the first time we have received bad service at this location. We waited in line for over 20 minutes last time because we try to order were you park but, after waiting about 20 minutes, got a response finally that only the drive through was open. After 20 minutes with no movement at al we left. I decided to give them another try but I'm done. We tried Chic Filet but they but they had about 20 cars in line so we went to White Castle. They were busy too but they waited on us and were VERY polite. So there were plenty of customers if Sonic treated customers better. They might as well close because people are not going to tolerate the abusive behavior. I'd give zero stars if I could. read more

Food is just ok. It's fast food, so I don't usually get anything to eat. But, every Tuesday, I take my son here for a mini shake before his drum lesson. I can't tell you how many times I wind up behind someone that must order everything on the menu, and I wind up sitting there for sometimes longer than 7 minutes. But, the staff is always incredibly apologetic and so I feel bad in the end. You are better off going here if you have the time to sit and eat in your car. If I didn't have to, I would probably never use this particular drive-thru. read more
