Went on two separate nightghts: aug 21 and 22. On the first visit I ordered a burger which was served completely unseasoned. First time in my life a chef forgot to salt a burger patty before cooking. The band was mediocre, they sung off key, off tempo and did covers of obscure songs. Tried again the next night with Fish and chips and much was MUCH better than the burger. Apparently the kitchen staff can only toss stuff in the fryer and start a timer. The music was worse than the first night. Whoever is hiring music for this location needs to be fired or trained on what music is: tempo, rythym, harmony, range. Banging hard on your guitar to cover for your lack of vocal capability is not music. In both visits the hired entertainment drove me to leave before I would have with generic house music playing in the background. I mean whoever hires the talent has no clue what "good" is. This is an area that gave us John BonJovi and Bruce Springsteen, but they hire the low end instead of decent talent. Place seems to be getting old and it shows. They had a live band which was pretty good and the chicken sandwich I had was certainly something I would order again, but they ran out of Heineken 0, so I was forced to drink diet soda, which was flat and about 3.50. I think I may have gotten a free refill, but it was pretty nasty. Service was nothing to write home about, either. Worst part about it was my friends boxed up half their pizza to take home and they accidently left the box on the bar counter while we were chatting outside for just a few minutes, and when they went in to pick it up, the server threw it away instead of waiting to see if they came back, which they did. No compensation was offered. Paid for a whole pie just to have half of it thrown away. If my friends want to come back again, since they usually do alright here, I would give it another try, but I would never come back on my own. read more

Been passing by this bar and grill for YEARSSSSS and decided to give it a visit one cold Tuesday evening. Its everything youd expect from a bar and grill; the mood, the aura, the televisions, etc. The hostess that greeted and sat us and the rest of the staff were really friendly. We ordered pizza to start and I had a burger as a main. Both dishes were large enough to share. The pizza was really good. The burger couldve been better, but it was good for what it was. I've given this place at least a half dozen tries. I honestly don't know how they are still in business. food is terrible. McDonald's down the street is literally 10 times better. today I ordered a chicken panini..... there was no sauce or dressing or ANYTHING on it. Long weekend stay cation at a nearby hotel to celebrate being discharged from my neurosurgeon's care.. They recommended this place! Great pick! Typical sports bar with a large selection to choose from. Despite the large crowd we were seated immediately and greeted by our waiter - Juan. We told him it was our first time here and he guided us through our picks. Fried calamari for appetizers. My husband and I shared the fish & chips and the rib entrees. Talk about large portions. Overall has a decent experience here for a Sunday evening. The tables were filling up quick after we were seated so the manager came to help the server by getting our drink orders. It was a chill and family-friendly atmosphere that evening, which was exactly my boyfriend & I were looking forever. However with how big the bar set up us, I can see it getting quite crowded when popular games are on The Guac & Chips app was fantastic and I wanted more even after the chips ran out! 10/10. I ordered the Chicken And Broccoli On Angel Hair. I would rate it a 6/10 because the sauce was nice but the oil in it drenched the noodles and the broccoli. This place was delicious and looked like it was from a Hallmark Christmas movie. The owner was present and very engaged with all customers, loved to see that. There was an incident where we got another tables food- and didn't notice until after we took bites- and they were so good about handling it!! MJ's is a small, local bar and grill chain. This location had existed under many different owners. It is a good alternative for people in the area who prefer easier parking and might not want to drive into urban Asbury Park for a trendier place. Their bar area was a big square, and they actually had plenty of seats. They have decent craft beer on tap. Although it may be true that most of their menu consisted of the usual bar fare, I ordered an offbeat kale crunch salad option. It turned out to be pretty decent, even though I wasn't expecting it. The service was just OK. I had to flag down the bartender any time I needed something, and it wasn't the best place to socialize. I used to be a regular here and liked their bar food. Wasn't looking for a five star meal but their wings, pizza and sandwiches were very good. I have never seen a place decline so fast over the past year. I kept going back out of habit and hoping it was just a blip The pizza went from being very good to awful.. I had a chicken sandwich last week that could be the worst I've ever had. it's sad because I really like this place but just doesn't work anymore. You could tell by the size of the crowd as well that I'm not the only one that feels this way. This place ain't it. Food is low quality. You can tell the fries were made with old oil - smelled so bad and I had to pay an extra $1 for them. Husband got a steak sandwich which came out as an open faced sandwich. Steak wasn't edible and he didn't like the seasoning. Inside isn't even nice.. dark and noisy. Service was ok but lackluster. After a long day at the mall, dinner options in unknown territory seemed a challenge. I asked 2 complete strangers for recommendations, one a vegetarian who hardly eats out, and both immediately sent me to MJs. And now I know why. You see proud residents will send you to the best their neighborhood has to offer. Old school, nothing fancy, ordinary looking joint from the outside. Sports on several screens, table and chairs worn but well kept. A homey feel. The bursts of flavors began with the appetizers. The wings were just right. Hmm.. even the salad was all gone, fresh and crisp. The mains??? Fried fish (flounder I believe), steak and burger were ALL raves! Yes, I am an everyone's plate taster, lol. Food and service was good. I had a standard cheeseburger and it was cooked exactly how I asked.

The wings here are really good. In general, I feel like ordering takeout slightly diminishes the quality of food but the take out wings here taste exactly the same as they would if I were to dine in. I feel like they're a tad bit pricey. I paid $22 for wings and french fries. But I also haven't ordered takeout in years so maybe the prices went up in general. Not sure. We visited for our first time on an incredibly busy night, but the hostess and managers did a very good job of getting people seated rather quickly. Our server was on top of things even though we were a large party, and the food came out relatively quickly and was solid. It was too cold to sit outside but it did appear to be a nice space. Parking is a bit tight, but nothing to worry too much about. We will definitely go back next time we are in the area. read more

I've been eating at/from MJs in Neptune City for a very long time. However, the last year or so of ordering has not been too pleasant. I usually place orders over the phone or online and every single time my order has been wrong or missing items I ordered. The very last time was this past Saturday. I spoke to the Manager and was advised that due to the mixup which involved me having to return back to MJs for a missing item as well as when I got home the item was wrong that I would be refunded due to the inconvenience. I really hope that is the case. I enjoy the food there just not consistent. read more

My kinda place! Good beer and good food. The appetizers were great, we decided on cheesesteak egg rolls and chips and guacamole. For dinner I ate the BLT panini. I don't often write a review so in order for me to put pen to paper you have to leave me with quite an impression. I have been going to MJ's ( Neptune) for quite sometime and never had a problem with the food but Sunday left me wanting. I ordered a sausage and pepper sandwich and upon arrival it looked okay but once I took a bite I was sorely disappointed. It was the worst sausage and peppers sandwich I ever had. I opened it up and found it was anything but sausage. When I order a sausage sandwich I expect it to be an actual sausage but it looked like a hotdog. Now I know it wasn't a hotdog but it was the worst replica of a sausage you could have in my opinion. It was processed meat rather than an Italian sausage. I also believe the peppers and onions were the frozen variety instead of fresh. I told the bartender and she was great and took it off the bill but I am questioning the decision to put it out there in the first place. On a tangent note I ordered it from there Sunday football menu and chose it because I thought there wing special was expensive. They were charging 17 dollars for 12 wings ! Just a place to stop by and grab some food- there was a lot of options so it would cater to a group of people with different tastebuds. Cost: The meal totaled up to an average cost. The restaurant in general felt like a 'watering hole' for the locals. A very home-like atmosphere, bunch of booths, bar seatings, etc. Service: As some other reviewers stated, the service was a bit slow. Even though I was able to make eye contact with a waitress, it was a while before we were even given a menu to browse. At the time, the restaurant didn't seem that busy so my only other assumption was that they may have been understaffed. Uniqueness: Besides the great lunch/drink deals that happens during lunch time or special days, this is just your average restaurant. I'm not sure how this can really go this wrong. Our server was lackluster and I know that there's a shortage but she never came to check on us. In fact, she would peer over my friend's shoulder to look at our table and then she would turn around and walk away. Never asked us if we needed anything, didn't offer another round of drinks, it wasn't until she brought the check that she gave us a round of water. We stopped in with my mother in law the other day. Convenient to nearby Seabrook where she lives. Typical, noisy sports bar type place. Friendly server, a big table with uncomforable chairs. My back was barking after an hour. We all ordered different things. Buffalo wings, chipotle bbq wings, fish tacos, a BLT. The wings were really jumbo as advertised. I cannot recall seeing larger wings. Impressive. I enjoyed my chipotle bbq wings. I felt my son's buffalo wings lacked oomph and sauce. Fish tacos were good with a spicy slaw but a non homemade guacamole. BLT came on impressive thick cut bread, a nice touch. Fries and rings were ordinary. They were very "dry" as if they had been sitting out for a bit before being plated. So, a nice place with some good food, good service. I was pleasantly delighted how good the food was. Gluten free options on the back of the menu that was way more than salad with grilled chicken. Chicken parm, pizza and so much more. Escarole beans and grilled shrimp made perfectly with olive oil, garlic and a hint of fresh lemon. Made just like my Italian family makes escarole. Extensive regular menu and great bar food enjoyed by my family. Huge bar with plenty of TV's. Food arrived quickly but trying to find our server to get the check took way too long. Where else are you going to go? Might as well spend a night at MJ's Big bar with tons of TVs filed with booths and high tips to accommodate your tailgate. Large dining areas surrounding the bar. Our friendly server, Brian, was quick with our drinks but everything else was slow to come. Calamari to start, my friend with a Flounder Po Boy and the Big Ruben for me. The daily special of Maryland Soft Shell Crab sandwich looked good but I'm in for the beef. It's a huge, open face sandwich, of which I took 1/2 home for a midnight snack. Easily for two but that they warn you about. The food is good. With live music most nights and a DJ spinning 80s on Wednesday, we had to come back to see what that was about. Dead. No one on the dance floor and 3 packs of people at the bar. No action and nut much fun. The music was the best part. Two of us split the littleneck clams app which was delicious and I had the lobster bisque which was way too think for a soup, it was almost like a cheese sauce. I frequently dine at MJs typically with no problem ever. However Tuesday I grabbed lunch there with my boyfriend. Amidst the covid 19 pandemic, outside dining was introduced. Everyone was friendly and appeared very happy to be back outside amongst other people. An elderly white man felt the need to approach me and my boyfriend ( African Americans ) & tell us his opinion about the murder of Rayshard Brooks by a police officer. As this is a very sensitive topic to the black community, especially currently with the protests worldwide, the last thing I wanted was to go out to eat and have a stranger standing over my table telling me their opinions on it. Went to MJs for happy hour with our monthly group. We like to volley around to different places every month. I have been to the one in Tinton Falls also. IMHO opinion this is the better of the two. The staff is always friendly as well as the crowd. Atmosphere is low key & the food is above average for most of the bar & grill time places I've gone. I ordered the Seared Ahi Tuna & it was excellent! Prices are reasonable & they do have a happy hour although the food included is only until 6 pm. I'll be returning very soon. read more

Came here as a meeting spot for a lunch with my parents and fiance. The last time I was at MJ's was years and years ago when I was young. I'm generally a fan of some traditional, American bar fare and MJ's delivers just that. If you want high quality, sit down food, this is not the place. If you want to sit at a bar, watch the game, and eat some bar comfort food, this is the place. I went with the buffalo chicken wrap, and I also had a slice of the thin crust pizza. The wrap was tasty and stuffed with buffalo chicken, but for some reason had just a TINY bit too much of a charred taste for my liking. That being said, it was still a good wrap and I enjoyed it. The thin crust pizza was great, and I highly recommend it. I give this place a solid A-OK. The food is good, not great, and the atmosphere is good, not great.
