I used to go to this place often and this is the worst experience we have had ever. When we were ordering, maybe about 3 times the lady said "ok" like they had it but then she would tell us 20 seconds later that "we don't have that". Good food, weird service experience. We enjoy the food here, but we went today and the drive through speaker sounded absolutely terrible, static filled and the person had a hard time hearing us it seemed. After getting to the window, we decided we wanted some shakes. No big deal - we pulled around to the carhop area and that's where everything went wrong. All of the boards had signs that say their headsets don't work. So push the red button and someone will be out. I pushed the button, we waited several minutes. Nobody showed up. I ended up just getting the app on my phone. I ordered 2 shakes. It says to go into the lobby and get the order with my name. I'm sitting at a stall and that board says the app will have my items brought where I am. Remember, at this point several minutes in, nobody has still shown up to the car at all. In the app, it says Check In. So i do, and enter my stall number. It says someone will be out soon to take my order. I already ordered? And a couple minutes later, nobody has shown up still. I give up - i get out of my car to go inside per the app. The doors open to the kitchen, one miserable looking worker is heading out with 2 drinks and glares at me and says nothing. I get out of her way. Another guy walks out the other door to the seating area and asks people if they need ketchup. There is no "lobby." Clearly I'm where I don't belong. I see if there's some other entrance as I walk around the building - nope, just drive through and the apparently malfunctioning carhop area. By this point I head back to my car as the miserable worker that had 2 drinks is now carrying shakes to my car. I state I'm terribly confused about how anything is working there. She says there is no inside to the place, I say the app said go to the lobby. She guided me into the parking lot the wrong way and failed to explain I needed to pull up closer to the speaker but you can't keep Jimi down. I was really impressed with the menu. Opening day today! I did the drivethru for breakfast on my way to work. My choice was the steak and egg burrito. Service was fast, SUPER friendly and efficient. Delicious and it was bigger than I thought it would be for $2.99. It's stuffed w/seasoned steak, egg, and tater tots which added a nice crunch. Two packets of picante sauce were also included. The receipt indicates their full menu is served all day so if you want a burger at 6 a.m., or breakfast at 10:30 p.m., you can get it! Their hours are 6-11. How can a Sonic be this bad? If an award existed for worst Sonic in the nation, this one surely would win. I've lived here for almost 1.5 years. Before that, I lived in a town about half the size of Bloomington/Normal. That smaller town has 4 Sonics. That makes me think this town should be able to support 8 Sonics, but the one they have is almost always empty because it is so terrible. I used to work in a small rural town with a population of barely over 8,000 people. That tiny town had a Sonic that was always packed. They expanded and it was still always packed. They ended up building a second Sonic just around the corner (so close you could easily walk from one Sonic to the other) and now both Sonics are packed. That's what Sonic should be--so popular that the stalls are almost full and you are willing to wait for one to open up. The Sonic in Normal, however, is NOT a Sonic like that. Here's a summary of some highlights of my visits here: No ice. Sonic is known for its ice. How can they run out of ice? No onion rings. I once asked the carhop why they were once again out of onion rings. I was told that they make only so many each morning and they always seem to run out by 4pm. My suggestion that they make MORE onion rings in the morning so they have enough to last all day seems like an obvious solution. The app is hardly ever active for this site. That means the all day happy hour pricing on drinks does not get honored. Terribly long waits and typically the service is unfriendly. Sometimes they don't have enough employees to keep the stalls open and only use the drive-thru. Other times, they are just randomly closed or close early for some reason. My guess is management is so terrible that they can't keep enough employees or this location makes so little money they can't pay to keep it fully staffed. Right now, the app says the location is temporarily closed. Fingers crossed this is because Sonic took the franchise away from the owner and will sell it to someone who is better able to run a restaurant. read more

Love Sonic burgers and tots but this location has the worst/slowest drive thru in town. I've tried to get Sonic at least 5 times in the past month and left without ever being able to order. Most of the time the drive thru line just literally doesn't move. I've sat in line for 15 minutes or more without a single car advancing. One time I actually made it to the order screen and an employee came over the intercom and said "I'll be with you in 5 to 10 minutes." That's just unacceptable. They need to hire some former Chik-fil-a employees to teach them how to run an efficient drive thru. read more

We had the remainder of a gift card, so decided to use it at the Pekin, IL Sonic. We both got the chicken tender basket with onion rings in lieu of the tater tots. Lemonade to drink. All the food tasted the same, which to say was like a carnival funnel cake. My wife said the onion rings taste funny, and after I figured out the taste WAS funnel cakes. The lemonade was good. The absolute worst experience at any fast food restaurant I have ever had in my life! First of all, it took 12 minutes with only one person ahead of me from order to pick up through the drive-through. All I ordered was a hamburger with no cheese and extra pickle! After 12 minutes, I get the burger, it's not even correct! I take the burger back for a refund because I am in a hurry, they give me less money than I paid for! I was staying in Bloomington for work and decided to take the shuttle down to the Walmart to get some things to tide me over to for the week. After navigating my way through the Mart, I worked my way back outside to the freezing weather to wait for the shuttle. I'm basically freezing my chimichangas off and I look over to the left. As you can tell, I love Sonic especially since they are hard to come by in the Pacific NW where I live. I hurriedly walked over to the Sonic, as I obviously had time to spare, and got myself a grilled cheese sandwich, some tots, some fries, mozzarella sticks, French toast, an M&M blast, a grape creamslush, a small cranberry sprite and a cherry-coke slush. Mind you it could have been all but 15 degrees outside, but when I go Sonic, I go all in. Oh my dear lord, I know they food here is probably really bad for you, but in that moment it was soooooooo good for me. "O" face, comin right up! Ya know, there's nothing better than getting food poisoning just in time for Thanksgiving and a 20 hour road trip. Thank you for that, Sonic. Boyfriend and I were on our way to stay with a friend in Springfield before hitting the road for two days en route to Albuquerque for Thanksgiving. Monday night, halfway through our three hour trip for the day, we wanted to stop somewhere for a quick bite to eat since it was time for dinner. Our dog was along for the trip, so we needed to stop somewhere that wasn't a restaurant so he wouldn't be alone. We eyed the Panera down the street and in retrospect, we totally should have stopped there instead, but alas, we never had Sonic since there aren't any up north, so we said, what the heck. Let's try it out. Pretty basic menu. I went for the cheeseburger and tater tots since I thought that was an interesting change of pace. Boyfriend had a chicken sandwich. They said our total and he tried putting his credit card through the machine outside, but apparently that's just for sonic member cards. Oookay. Girl rollerbladed outside, gave us our food, went back in and slid the card, and came out. Seems like a lot of work. Also, there's no indoor area, so you either order from the drive thru or from the outside area. Weird. My burger was just okay. Nothing special, but then what can you really expect from a fast food joint? The meat looked okay, but it definitely didn't look too fresh. I mean even Portillos has a good looking burger. This looked like it definitely had been frozen. I tried not to think about it because it's fast food and that's what you get. On the way to my friend's, my bf started not to feel so great. His stomach hurt and he felt like he was going to throw up. I felt fine. 4am. Here we go. I sprinted to my friend's bathroom and threw up my Sonic. I threw up four more times before we left at 8am that morning. Actually we left later than we planned because I was so dead sick. My poor friend and her husband had to hear me running down the hallway every hour and her dogs were barking every time I did. Needless to say, I kept everyone up. Won't give you the rest of the details, but I had full blown food poisioning. Just in time for our 12 hour car trip for the day. I honestly thought I would have to be hospitalized because I couldn't even keep water down. I was severely deydrated. Instead of trying some good Kansas City BBQ, I ate ice chips. All I had for 24 hours was water, ice, and two crackers. Thank God I was better by Thanksgiving. Oh and of course, my boyfriend was fine. Didn't get sick. Just me. Isn't that how it always goes? Poor boy had to drive 10 out of the 12 hours that day because I couldn't even hold my head up. Lesson learned: Never eat Sonic again. read more

This is hands down the WORST Sonic I have ever been to. We were thrilled when we heard we were going to get a sonic, it is one of our favorites when we travel. It has been a disappointment since day 1. It takes forever to get your food, The food is rarely hot, and our order is incorrect most of the time. If you send it back they get an attitude and take even longer to bring you the correct food. One time we were even brought the same incorrect food wrapped in a new wrapper. We spent an hour there that night demanding they make it over and over until they got it right...no mustard is a simple request and sometimes you just have to prove a point....and didn't end up eating the food because let's face it, after the second try someone spit in that burger. I have only had my order correct TWICE since they opened. In addition to orders being fouled up constantly we usually do not get napkins, silverware or condiments and rarely get the trademark mint. The carhop will not have any of these items in her possession although it is an eat in your car establishment and would just be smart to bring them. If you call in to get these forgotten items any slightly warm food that you have will end up ice cold after the long wait. I'm just plain disappointed that I can visit Champaign, Springfield or Peoria and receive a hot, fast, tasty meal but can't get one in my own back yard. Terribly slow service! I was in the drive thru for 20 minutes with only 3 cars ahead of me and only 4 in the lot. I could have walked successfully into Mordor with Frodo and Sam before I made it to the window. When I finally got to the window, the employee walked away without even acknowledging me. Im not invisible. If I were, my life would be unbelievably different but I'm not so it isn't. So I just sat there like the desperate fatty that I am. Finally, the window opened, I was asked what I ordered and paid (isn't there a screen for that?). However, the girl that took my money just shut the window and walked away without handing me my change. I don't think they know how to job there. Anyway, I continued to wait, for both my change and milkshake (at this point I was wishing I was lactose intolerant and had made better life choices). Eventually a third employee (it's like the TARDIS in there but less cool) handed me my change and told me to have a good day without handing me my order. Uh, that's not how this works, that's not how any of this works. Obviously seeing the expression that naturally accompanies that phrase, she realized I didn't have anything and had to go hunt for it. Where did it go? Are they playing Where's Waldo in there? Who knows. But finally, after 20 grueling minutes where I would have rather been Rick Rolled, I finally had what I came for and drove away. One of the things that really ticks me off about a food place is when they serve the drive-through faster than those who come into (in this case, up to) the store. I pushed the button to order and waited probably 5 minutes, minimum, before anyone even acknowledged I was there. Then, after ordering, another 15 min wait. I could have gone across the street to Panera, ordered, ate, and left in the time it took to get my food - and probably had better food.
