Upon arrival into the parking lot, you notice what looks like places where you can park, order and eat right in your car. This is reminiscent of the 50s. We didn't choose this method. Upon arrival inside the restaurant, you will notice that the menu board immediately assaults you with 7 major meal choices on the left side of the board. Kids meal choices on the right side of the board, and an endless supply of drink options in the centre of the board. One really has to wonder what they specialize in. So, we asked. Turns out that the number one meal is the standard cheese burger with tater tots covered in chilli. I really wish that I had taken her advise and ordered it. However, my son and daughter ordered the corn dogs which were a good size. In fact, my son ordered two corn dogs and my daughter one corn dog and one regular hot dog. They definitely enjoyed them. As parents, we were surprised that they had apple slices on the menu and ordered them as a side for the kids. They were surprised that we ordered it but ate them without any trouble. My wife ordered a chicken sandwich and her only complaint was that the bun was too big. I like to order the gamut, and decided that I would like to try a single bacon cheeseburger, which wasn't on the menu. They had single and double cheeseburgers and a double bacon cheeseburger. They made it for me without any issue but the only problem with ordering off the menu is that you don't know the price. Thankfully, their prices were in line with what we are used to with McDonald's and Burger King. I also ordered a chili cheese dog but somehow I got the foot long hot dog. I didn't really recognize this as there was no place to see what you had ordered and you are only given the amount you need to pay. When I got a copy of my bill and examined it, I realized the error and went back up to speak to the cashier. It took 3 people an unusually long period of time to try to get me a refund on it and give me the 6 inch dog, as opposed to the foot long. In the end, I advised them that I would rather have the fries at par, but in reality, I think I ripped myself off. No one bothered to correct me or process the refund. In the end, the cashier went in to tell them to give me a 6 inch dog and fries. The good news is that I got HOT FRIES, the bad news is that I got a foot long chilli cheese dog. Oh well. So, I can tell you the burger was good, except that the bun was very soft. Almost unnaturally soft but I was okay with that. As we had ordered the onion rings, tater tots and now fries, we dipped it in the chilli from the chilli cheese dog. I have to tell you, TATER TOTS ROCK!!!! Dipped in chilli cheese sauce, it was GOOD! SO GOOD that we tried the fries, which were also GOOD!!! Unfortunately, I can't say the same for the onion rings in the chilli cheese sauce. I usually love hot dogs, and I try to eat them every chance that I get; however, the best way that I can describe this foot long hot dog covered in chilli cheese was that I usually don't eat salt in hot dog form. At first, I thought it was the chilli but it wasn't, when I tried the hot dog without the chilli, I got a blast of salt. This leads me to believe that the hot dog was sitting in hot dog water and had become salty. I didn't complain, it's not worth my time. I should mention that there was so much ice in my cup, that I ran out of drink. Is the fountain drink too much to give me an ample amount of drink? I didn't bother asking for a refill. So, here's my advice: - Try the cheeseburger - Don't get the ice in your drink - Avoid the foot long hot dog at all costs - GET the Tater TOTS, with chilli, if possible, this would ROCK! There is a security checkpoint you have to go through to get into the lot. It kind of feels like Fallujah (according to my ex-military friend). I don't understand why a Sonic Drive-In needs a security checkpoint. I was sternly asked, as three security guards who carried themselves as if they were real police, "What is your purpose here tonight?" For the record, I wanted a cotton candy slush. When I finally got my slush, the girl at the drive-through asked me, with a friendly smile, "Is there anything else I can get for you today, sir?" and I sort of chuckled and asked, "Actually, yeah, why is there security at the entrance?" Her smile didn't waver as she responded "Have a good night, sir." A few seconds of awkward silence and I pulled away. We left even more confused than before I asked. It felt like a scene in a movie where an alien craft has crash-landed, and the government has moved in to cover it up, and they blow off anyone trying to question things. Usually we get a good experience from any of the workers, whether it be drive through, the drive in, etc. However, I have to say Kayla who took our order from the drive in was VERY rude. She sounded like she was irritated and didn't want to be taking our order. We told her we wanted cheese fries but she pressed in cheese tots, so we repeated ourselves saying, "sorry that was cheese fries not tots" instead of saying anything or apologizing for her mistake, you could practically feel her eye roll through the speaker because she was extra rude from that point on with short responses or no response. Then at the ending we asked for mozzarella sticks, but before we could ask to add marinara sauce, she ended the order and it changed to the paying screen. That was a first for us to have any of the workers do that. However, our carhop guy Kevin was extraordinary. We get him as our carhop often and he never disappoints. Always a positive attitude, always happy to help & always pleasant to have him serve us! He deserves five stars alone! I hated that I had to ask him to go back and get marinara sauce because of Kayla's poor customer service. But Kevin's customer service made the experience a lot better in the end. read more

This is by far the worst sonic in the nation. Prior to covid I loved coming here but the last year and a half the service has been absolutely horrible. When you come here and park in a stall, the staff doesn't even acknowledge you for the longest time! Even when they have only one other customer In the parking lot. What are they doing ?!!!!! On top of that the food takes forever to come out to your car! why can I go to a sit down restaurant and eat and leave quicker than coming to this sonic for take out ?! Well, don't come to the Sonic DRIVE IN and actually park in the drive in because they take absolutely forever. I swear we were waiting for about 45 minutes as we watched multiple cars pull in the drive through and leave with their orders. we finally get our food and the bag is soaked in grease as if it'd been sitting for a while. We both ordered tots and when we finally got our food they had fries in the bag. we informed the car hop and he said they are out of tots.. we asked how long they've been out he said all day apparently. then why weren't we informed when we placed our order? he just stood there staring at my husband so we said whatever. My BACON CHEESEBURGER toaster has no bacon and no cheese and my patty was burned on one side yet frozen on the other side. My husbands burger was hard, burned, and broken into 3 pieces. safe to say we will never come here again. read more

Stopped here for a snack. Ordered two Master Blast. Banana Split one had a few strawberries and a boatload of chocolate chips. Carmel Brownie had brownie bites on top. And didn't taste mush like Carmel. Neither had anything throughout. Our ice teas were "light"ice but can pretty much "nonexistent" ice. When we talked to someone she talked to the manager. The manager said there wasn't anything she could do because we had eaten some. Have never been disappointed with a Sonic before until now. Spent way too much money to be so disappointed. Honestly if I could give this place a zero star rating I would. Every time without fail that I go to this place, the line is practically extending to the road. I showed up at the drive thru around 8:30 waiting behind only TWO cars, and didn't move for 10 minutes. The car in front of me ordered very very quickly, I'm guessing they only ordered one or two items, and then it was our turn. The woman at the box asked us to please wait, so we did. FOR 15 MINUTES. When she finally came back, she didn't apologize for making us wait all that time, and acted as if we were an inconvenience to her night. As if she didn't literally sign up to work at Sonic and serve people. We asked for a hot dog combo and she told us "we can't make that" with no further explanation. My son and I went here after fishing on Lake Ontario. There was one car ahead of me and 2 cars pulled into the parking spots, so it was busy at all! I waited about 10 minutes for the car in front of me to have their order taken and when I pulled up it took another 5 minutes!! The food was warm, nothing to brag about. As we pulled up the staff was on a smoke break, understand able because we happened to be the only customers there. We later figured out why we were the only customers there :( we pulled up to the window and they told us they would be with us in a second. Understandable, gotta get everyone back in from they're smoke break. But we sat there for quite a bit. We let her know that we were ready whenever they were and she told us that they were out of everything besides fried food and that she would be with us in a couple of minutes. So when they were ready we ordered our food and then pulled up to the window. Customer service was horrible no greeting at the window and we were never told our total just handed them the card. Our corn dog was cold in the center and our mozzarella sticks were greasy in the middle and cold on the outside. We ordered a combo for the popcorn chicken and didn't receive our tater tots despite paying for them. As a manager in customer service for three years I can understand taking a minute to get to customers and being out of product. However; at least do the bare minimum. read more

This is probably the worst Sonic I have been to. They can't seem to take orders at the window, inside and at the canopy all at the same time. Because of that if you park at the canopy you are always told to hold on. Then it takes forever to get your food. I assume this is because the carhop has to do the inside, window and canopy. I feel like the main driving factor for Sonic and carhops, comes from the canopy parking but that gets neglected at this sonic. read more

I no longer use the drive thru at this location because I don't have 30 minutes to waste waiting for food. So now on the rare occasion I visit this location I eat inside, though it isn't much better. I had to repeat my order 3 times to the cashier because she didn't listen the first two times I said it. She also never looked at me the entire time I was ordering. And when I asked for ketchup for my friend and I, I was only given 6 packets. If I'm paying $10 to eat at your establishment, I expect more than 3 ketchup packets each. However, my dining experience became very uncomfortable when a very loud customer, seemingly an employee or a regular because he knew everyone, came in and disrupted our meal. We waited for 20 minutes to have our order taken,were told that we were out of the queue because it took so long (what?) and the employee then said he would take our order but never came back. He was extremely rude when I had to go in the restaurant so we just left. 45 minutes and no food. The GM seemed sympathetic when I e-mailed but didn't follow up. Okay, I do get that this is a cheap, fast food restaurant, but I still expect good customer service and the correct order to be delivered. We've only visited here a handful of times, but each time our order is wrong and the girl taking the order is rude (we've dealt with the same person on multiple occasions). Went there the day after they opened. There was a young employee in the parking lot, talking on his cell phone during what I assumed was his break. He was loudly cussing. Young lady who waited on me mumbled so bad that I had to ask her to repeat herself three times... and I STILL couldn't understand her! I finally just said "sure" to whatever she'd asked me. Turns out she was asking if I wanted tater tots with my grilled chicken sandwich. These turned out to be the best part of the meal. The grilled chicken was tasteless; they need to season or marinade it. The alleged "chiabatta" roll it was served on was actually a bland hamburger bun (white bread) SHAPED like a chiabatta bun. I had to ask for napkins. They had trouble finding any! The meal deal I purchased cost a dollar more than I would have paid at BK or McDonald's. NOT worth the hype!!!! read more

Went inside to order at 4pm on a Sunday afternoon. The employee at the counter was nice through the entire experience. My first order took 30 minutes to come out, when I received the order and noticed two of the three items were not what I ordered I asked them to correct the order. Wrong a second time, ten minutes later they got it correct on the third try. The manager helped me but offered me no apology, didn't introduce herself as the manager. Overall a young unorganized staff, the fault falls on poor management. Replace the management team and I believe the rest of the staff will be fine with better leadership. On a side note the bathroom was disgusting, out of paper towels, and I watched one employee switch from taking out trash to helping with customers orders without washing their hands twice. I think the other people who wrote a review were confused. Sonic was parking people for the first few months because there were TONS of customers going through and the traffic needed to managed. I personally was excited to go to sonic . I go for the drinks . It is a easy date night for my husband and I. We don't go for the food unless it's the hot dogs. I think that it's not the fault of the business about there employees because Watertown NY doesn't have the greatest selection of teens and young adults to hire. They don't make the drinks right sometimes I think out of laziness. One time my drink was not even blended, how do u forget to blend a drink? I met the owner and we was very personable. HORRIBLE MANAGEMENT!! After waiting on a Friday night from 9:47pm to 10:15pm, they finally responded and told us to go back and join a huge line up because "we're now closed at the takeout stations". We asked for the "Manager". Christian came out. We told him there was no indication they closed the takeout station, that we were sitting and waiting all that time, that they didn't turn off the light at the stand or placed one of their numerous pylons to block any new car from pulling in. The previous server said she didn't have a problem taking our order, but Christian wouldn't let her. We told him to do the right thing and win over customers, his exact response to all three of us in the car: "I don't care, I'm closed here, you can drive back around and join the line up" We said it wasn't fair after waiting that long to make us join a line to wait another 30 minutes. He said "my decision is final". We said we're going to do a write up on Yelp. He said, "Go ahead", as if no one reads these reviews.
