1-3-26 at the Westland, Michigan store #619, I ordered a kids happy meal with a cup of water picked for the drink, a bourbon caramel iced coffee, which I paid $3.74 for separately on its own. They gave me my coffee, and the kids meal, but no water/drink with that. When I asked him about the water for the kids meal, he said it doesn't show I had water for the kids meal (which my emailed receipt CLEARLY shows a mini water under the kids meal!). He said that my coffee drink was the drink that came with the kids meal. This is not true because I picked and paid full price for the coffee drink separately! Plus, a coffee drink was NOT even an option for the kids meal when I chose the drink. I told him once again that the coffee drink is separate and I picked a cup of water for the kids meal drink. He again said it doesn't show on the receipt that I picked water for the kids meal (not true). He stood there arguing with me over a cup of WATER, and ultimately would NOT give me the mini cup of water that should have come with the kids meal! There is no excuse to talk to someone the way he talked to me, let alone a paying customer who just needed straws that should have been in the bag. Unless you want the worst service experience of your life, then steer clear of the Westland, MI, Sonic drive-in. True rating is a NEGATIVE million stars! I've visited this location 4 times in the past month to pick-up an online order & each visit has been worse than the previous visit. First visit (ever) resulted in a 20 minute wait for my order after checking in on their app. They don't respond to the red "call" button, gave me a burned burger, didn't include the ketchup packets that I requested in my online order & gave me no napkins. I had to telephone the store to request the ketchup (again) & waited an additional 5+ minutes for that to be delivered. Second visit I waited 15-20 minutes after checking in. This time I made the server wait while I checked my order & big surprise, no ketchup packets again - which I made them go back inside for. Thankfully the burger wasn't burned this time. Third visit I only ordered a milkshake online, but still waited at least 15-20 minutes after checking in. Fourth & FINAL visit, the app kept telling me the spot # that I entered was invalid (which it was NOT). After 10 minutes of this nonsense, I pressed the red "call" button - no response. I called the store several times & they never answered the phone. I tried to locate an entrance to the store, which does not exist. I drove to a different spot & checked in, waited another 25 minutes & never received my order. Finally found a phone number for their corporate office customer service & demanded a full refund immediately, along with providing details of each visit's experience at this location. Secondly, the chicken was so THIN it only had one side. It was fried hard as a brick and the bun was tragically hard. It was 10:00 in the morning for god's sake!!! There was no rush. My husband and I visit once a month or so and have never had a bad meal. It's not healthy, but the food is quick and tasty. You can find plenty of burgers, chicken and fish sandwiches, hot dogs, fries, onion rings, breakfast sandwiches and milkshakes and slushes. I don't necessarily recommend the onion rings, but the tater tots have never disappointed. I love the quarter pound cheeseburger. Very filling for the price. It's nice to have the option to either drive through or pull up to a spot and have a staff member bring your food. When we arrived here today it seemed really nice. We have rarely had issues today. My sister is a vegetarian and basically can only order a grilled cheese sandwich today. Grilled cheese pictured was what we received. She tried to eat it but it was gross, soggy, and not even grilled all the way. When we asked for a replacement, the restaurants attitude changed. We ordered the all American hot dog meal with a large cherry vanilla lime coke and tator tots with 3 ranch's , a small strawberry shake, and a medium strawberry cheesecake shake. We went to pay and our screen went black and had to flag a worker down in the parking lot. she proceeded to bring us our food which was my meal and my strawberry cheesecake shake but not my cherry vanilla lime coke which was supposed to come with my meal. I assumed she was going to bring it out with the strawberry shake my sister ordered and she did not.I had to tell her she forgot my drink that came with my meal and also my ranches she came back with a melted cherry vanilla lime coke that looked like it had been sitting for an hour and there were no limes in site. My sister ended up not getting a strawberry shake which is what she ordered but a Oreo cheesecake shake. We didn't realize until we were down the street and had to turn around and wait 20 mins in the drive through. we got up to the window lady seemed very confused and like she didn't know how to do her job. She argued with me and ended up just throwing limes in my melted drink and giving it back to me.( I didn't even drink it I went home and dumped it out it was disgusting) My sister still never got the correct drink either they again gave her a strawberry cheese cake shake instead of just a regular damn strawberry shake she didn't like the crust bits in it and threw hers out as well. Service is consistently not great each of the 3 visits I've had in the drive thru. I'm not a Sonic regular, so I don't know the ends and outs. This last visit there is a promotion that states a free small shake when you buy a cheeseburger or certain coney dog. So I ordered the coney and a couple other items. The staff person never asked what type of shake I wanted so I asked her about it. She stated you have to ask for the promotion or they aren't going to offer it. This was the most backwards thing I've heard regarding something that is listed on the menu board The visit before they staff person rang up my items separately instead of in the combo I asked for and stated it was cheaper. Went to the Sonic Drive-In in Westland Michigan today. After paying for my order I realized it cost more than I had calculated in my head. There's no public door to the building and I mistakenly walked into the kitchen where the car hops go. It was filthy the floor the door everything. Realizing I was in the wrong area I stood back at the drive-thru window and ask the cashier why my food cost more than I calculated? She said there had been an increase in pricing. But the menus had not changed. So beware you're going to pay more than you think. PS I told her she should relay the message to her manager that that was false advertisement whether she did or not I don't know. Beware! My husband and I went tonight for a quick dinner. His back is a wreck and this way he did not have to get out of the car but we still got to go out. This chain is uber popular down south and my nieces and nephew have dragged me here a time or two in Missouri. From those experiences I can highly recommend Cherry Limeades :). James is also familiar having not always been a Michigan guy. First I must say James is a tater tot fan. The fact that they are an option instead of fries is aces in his book. It was full but not packed on a Wednesday night and we found an open slot on the first pass through. Our service was speedy and friendly. We each got super Sonic burger combos. For me, a double burger is a must. James of course got tots, I had fries. We stuck with basic on drinks and got Diet Cokes. Neither one of us is a shake or slush with food person. The drink selection was awesome, lots of teas and a huge variety of pop. I was happy to see Sprite Zero as it is hard to get a drink other than water that is caffeine and sugar free (a must for my mom). You can also upgrade to slushes or shakes. We devoured our food. We both found the burgers happy. We agree Culver's is better but that these are quite respectable, well wrapped too, which is vital for eating in the car. James' tots were hot and crisp as were my fries. All in all pleasing and fun. After we were done, we looked at each other and said "dessert?". I had a small caramel milkshake and he indulged in a peanut butter fudge one. His, of course, was better but both were good. A happy little adventure. The bad, their chili dogs Worst in the state of Michigan. The french fries were below average. This Sonic is fun to go to. It is kept clean and neat. It is difficult to access sometimes during the winter months. The lights at the intersection need to be upgraded. Heading east or south is fine. Heading west or north is a little tricky. Exercise caution. The food is fresh and well made. Their selection list is super long but worth the read. I enjoy the burgers, hot dogs and chicken bites. The chicken bit sauces are tasty without too much heat - but they aren't for little children. It's older teens and adults - with the exception of the barbecue sauce but that has some bite to it too. The drinks are sassy and cold. They serve them up right. There seems to be a little difficulty with their microphone and speaker system. Sometimes they can hear fine and sometimes you can hear fine but there are times when there are frequent interruptions. They soldier through, though. read more
