I have not been to this Sonic in a while, but last Sunday I went for the last time. The "waitress" brought our food and drinks to my Jeep. She handed me the first drink with no issue. However, upon handing me the second drink, which was too full to begin with, she squeezed too hard which caused the top to pop off and pop and ice to get all over the side of my Jeep, cover the front of my shorts, the side and bottom of my shirt (which soaked through two shirts and my undergarments) and on my seats. She said sorry and offered to get me more napkins. I was completely soaked and she handed me the napkins and said "That will be $20.60." I supposed ruining a shirt, soaking my shorts and getting my Jeep all sticky, does not mean a free lunch but offering, would have been nice. Needless to say, my Sunday was ruined. (We were on our way to the movies which got canceled because I had to go home to shower, change and do laundry.) Impressively bad. We were looking fir something different to do. I took my youngest "out" for a date. I figured we could eat in the car and have an ice cream treat--a 1-y COVID anniversary to let off some steam. The hood was so bad, even for Sonic. Staff was wearing masks down around their chins, noses and mouths not covered. And they seem to be new at food in general. No napkins, no straws, no condiments. No toy for the kid. We literally had to ask for each item and the staff member went back each time without once bothering to ask "anything else?" Blech! We will not be back. Baaaa Baaaa.....yes, I am a sheep. I drove through Sonic to see what all the fuss was about. Because they just opened, the lines are astronomically long for both drive thru and park and eat. The car hops, both on roller skates and not, looked harried and tired. When they got my order wrong (why didn't I check the bag before I left???) I had to find a place to park, walk up to the Employees Only door, and wait for someone to notice me. One of the girls on skates took my bag, threw it in the trash and screamed in the door what the correct item should be. About 6 minutes later I had the right sandwich. The food was really sloppily put together and pretty sub-par, even for fast food. The diet cherry limeade chiller was pretty good, but not good enough to go through all of that again. read more

I totally understand new food items and being creative but think before you fry. Even McDonald's knows not to deep fry the fries, nuggets, and fish in the same oil. we waited in the sonic for 20 minutes and no worker was in sight! There were about 6 people in there also waiting. In my time waiting, I made a very deep connection with a man waiting. He was staring at me for the first five minutes straight... at first it was very creepy but then I asked him what he wanted. he didn't say anything. At that point I got annoyed and told him to stop starring at me so he did. I asked him about his thoughts and opinions on the sonic drinks with nerds in them, and he said that he liked it and it was a very good metaphor for the social and political climate regarding poverty and homelessness in our side of the city. He mentioned that the nerds had a deeper meaning and represented all of the lost soles that belong to the living people out there on the streets. I didn't say anything and thought about this for a second. I was so deep in thought thinking about this that I hadn't realized that 15 minutes had gone by. I looked at him and he was staring at me again. I left the building without saying anything and I knew I made a sole mate for life. I never got my food. read more

After seeing all these sonic commercials and at the urging of my fiancee, it was time that i paid sonic a visit. First, i think that this place has good/great prices, so that alone is worth a star. For my food, i had the spicy popcorn chicken with chipotle, which was probably the best thing here and was really good. I also had fries (good), bacon cheeseburger (also pretty good). I had a couple of my fiancee tater tots and i thought they were average, nothing special. I think why this is such a beloved place is because of the enormous drink/frozen drink selection. My choice :lime slush with pineapple, which was great. With all due respect to chick inn (which is an original and better if you want the 50's way of doing food), sonic is the best DriveIn restaurant in the metro Detroit area, that is until i find something better. read more

Being a huge burger fan, I try to find the perfect burger place. Fast food, of course, is not usually an area to search for such things, but to me, they're in a class all their own. There are some great fast food burgers, and some not-so-great, just like with any other restaurant. I have to say that Sonic is among the top when it comes to the overall taste of a burger. SuperSonic burgers are amazing. Before trying them, Wendy's and Five Guys, in my opinion, made the best fast food burgers. Now I find it difficult to decide which is better. Sonic is probably my new favorite fast food restaurant. But... I'd be lying if I said this location didn't have its flaws. I once asked for a double cheeseburger, assuming they knew I wanted a SuperSonic. If you order a double cheeseburger, be sure to call it SuperSonic, because they will automatically assume you're asking for a JUNIOR double. Even though you never say the word "junior" to them, they take "double" as "oh, the one for kids." That, to me, doesn't make any sense. Shouldn't it be the other way around? Double Cheeseburger should be the norm for adults, unless you specify "junior." Oh well. I'll put up with it, if they need things that narrowed down. As for the physical state of the burger... well, it comes in foil to keep it warm, which I REALLY like. Five Guys does something similar to their burgers. It works great. Some places (eh-hem, McDonalds) use boxes or paper, and I don't really prefer that. However, you'll notice that it comes looking a little on the... squished side. When I think of a double burger, I think of this huge, meaty, bloated thing. The bun and stuff between are crushed and flat and... I'll admit, it doesn't look great. But perhaps that's the trade-off you get for receiving it in foil. The fries are... meh. They don't give you a lot, and they're just okay. I tried their chili fries. They were mostly good, but it was a bit sharp to taste. Probably the cheese sauce. It was... powerful. Wow. And not necessarily in a good way. The servers are friendly and upbeat for the most part, especially the carhops. We haven't had a single rude person come to our car, and we've eaten here about five times. The drive-thru is a nightmare, though. The lines are abysmally long, and they are slooooooow as hell. Be wary if you come by here for lunch hour, because you'll be waiting a while. We've had one order go totally wrong before. Husband asked for a plain burger with nothing on it, not even cheese. Just bread and meat. They confirmed this with him, TWICE. When we got the food, I checked the foil wrapped. On it was a sticker labeled "NO CHEESE." "Oh," I thought. "Good. They do listen here." When we got home... there was cheese on the burger. Face-palm. So, yeah, sometimes they're... not too bright here. But their food tastes pretty good. The ice cream is pretty awesome for the price, and the drinks have such variety. There's really a lot to choose from. Just make sure to check and double check your food if you go through the drive-thru. They might have mistaken what you said; or heard you correctly, but screwed you over anyway. read more

I'm not sure how food can be made fresh but still be cold. But that seems to be my usual in the times I went here. I can't fathom the continued appeal of this place. There's always a long line for what has turned out to be carnival food. Maybe it's the appeal of there not being many locations in the state and it's become more of a "hey I've been here" rather than a "hey I like the food here". Wife and I stopped in to the park and order here. We ordered a pecan brownie flurry. I forgot to order two spoons and asked the young server for another spoon (should have had it with napkins) with her just in case,but no.She went back for the spoon and never returned. I was placing a drive through order and got one thing ordered before they cut me off and gave me my total. I waited at the speaker saying "excuse me, hello, i wasn't done ordering etc" and no one would answer me. So I pulled around thinking maybe the speaker was malfunctioning. When I got to the window to explain what happened they told me I couldn't add on at the window. I told them I wasn't trying to add, I was just trying to complete the order and no one was listening to me at the speaker. After 2 employees refused to let us order, they called the manager in. She was despicably rude. We tried to explain to her but she just kept yelling over us "I'm asking YOU what do you want to add on". She was glaring at us like she absolutely hated us and being so over the top rude that we finally said forget it. We paid for the one item we got to order and we left. Keep in mind we had waited in line for every bit of 30 minutes. My kids were so hungry and they had promised slushees. Stopped in her late night to take advantage of the half price shakes & ice cream slush. We pulled into a spot and once we decided what we wanted we pushed the button for service. I was surprised at how busy the place was at midnight so service was a tad slow. We placed our order and waited about 10-15 minutes for our shakes. I got a strawberry-banana shake and I have to say it was very good! Made with fresh berries and bananas, it was tasty and chunky with fruit!! 3 shakes were gotten for $5.99 was a great deal as well! Ordered a milkshake and instead was charged for a 'Custard Concrete' I pointed out the mistake and told them this wasn't what I ordered and they lied and said "they just charged you for the custard but it's the same price don't worry". Not only did they give me the custard instead of what I ordered even though they told me they wouldn't (which was disgusting by the way) it was in fact MORE expensive. Considering it's fast food, they are at the top of the list. Best food for the $! Getting perfect staff that work for min wage at any fast food joint is impossible to find. But they are ALWAYS super friendly at Sonic. The service lacks most days, but since when has it been perfect at ANY fast food place. I've actually had better service at this Sonic than most of the restaurants in the area! (i.e. Apple Bee's, Mongolian Grill, Max & Erma's, Five Guys) McDonald's, Burger King, & Wendy's all make my sensitive stomach hurt for 3-4 days after eating their food. I've NEVER had a stomach issue after eating at Sonic. Well except when I eat too much. My top recommendations are.... Cheesy Bacon Pretzel Dog Footlong 1/4 pound coney Chili Cheese Tots Chicago Dog SuperSonic Breakfast Burrito (SPICY!) Ultimate Meat & Cheese Breakfast Burrito Breakfast Toaster The burgers are good too, just not my favorites on their menu. The drink menu is the best BY FAR! Drove up and got an order of tots, a cheesy bacon pretzel dog, and a small Reese's sonic blast to take back to work for lunch. The sonic blast was in light of it being 90 degrees outside, and it was excellent! The tot's were pretty good surprisingly. they weren't trying to be anything other than plain old wonderful tots. The dog was "OK". I love the concept, but it failed with the grilled onions. I didn't know they were included or I would have had them held off. It threw the flavor off for me. Another down side is the price tag, $2.49 for a dog is pretty steep. read more

I haven't been to Sonic since December 2011, when I sat in the drive-thru line watching one of the cooks smoking cigs and hocking loogies right next to the line of cars waiting for food. Oh how I love this place. I'll start with the service. Depending on how busy they are, your meal usually arrives in 5 minutes. Every car hop I've had is very friendly!! They're chipper and make sure you have everything you need. Next, the shakes and ice cream. Okay so they definitely use real ice cream and real cream. I have yet to taste better ice cream. Not the local parlor nor Baskin Robins even compare. You HAVE to try their ice cream, blasts, and shakes, really. Their Strawberry Shake, Lemon Berry CreamSlush, Oreo Blast, and Vanilla Cone are my favorites. You must know that they change some menu items periodically. The best sandwich I've had so far was the Mushroom and Swiss Toaster Melt. Oh man was that good. Too bad it was limited time only. They had some other Toaster sandwiches we liked but they are no longer available :( I also had a breakfast wrap from there, it was okay. Their chicken burgers could be better as well. Just stick to the regular burgers. If you love slushes, lemonade and limeade I highly recommend their drinks. They use real fruit and you can mix whatever flavors you want. Handsomely sized from Small to XLarge. My favorite is the Strawberry Minute Maid Lemonade. Medium size for only $1.68. Last but not least there are plenty of side items to order. I usually get the mozzarella sticks or french toast sticks. Your choice of sauce. Price wise, you can't beat it. They also have "Happy Hour" (2-4pm) which includes half price drinks, $5 Sonic Burgers after 5 every Tuesday. Those are 1/4 lb burgers by the way, which I like better than Burger King's. I keep fast food coupons in my car for emergencies, so I decided to use the BOGO for the toaster breakfast sandwich I got one of each I spent $3.17 with tax. In the grande ranking of quick bites, this place is in the top quarter. In other words, it does some things great, some things good, but nothing amazing. Their burgers are good. Better than McD's or the King, but not better than Five Guys. The pluses are happy hour and the drive in. They have an old-school style drive in where you dine in your car. It's nice if you want to deal with the least amount of people possible or want to work and eat. The happy hour is everyday 2-4pm. The delicious corn dogs are only 99¢ and their awesome slushies are super cheap. read more
