I didn't trust myself to get it done perfectly, and I wasn't sure if a handyman would see my vision. I knew I was going to want everything perfectly spaced out and as proportionate as possible. I'm so glad I found Isaac at Pacific Art Installation, who provided the perfect solution. He's both handy and artistically-minded. He was easy to book a time slot with. When he arrived, he was super patient about rearranging the frame options to help me find a layout I was happy with. He also helped me hang a bunch of framed artwork and a mirror that had been, no joke, sitting on the floor of our condo for nearly two years because we never "got around to it." He made some great suggestions regarding spacing and how high up on the wall to hang each piece for optimal placement. I was concerned that they couldn't handle the 30+ art pieces I had in the time allotted but Michael and Berley were such pros that they got the heavy pieces up together and then Michael just did a great job, hanging the art, discussing location and sometimes helping to rearrange an awkward piece. In my 50+ years of remodeling and moving I've run into many contractors workers who thought they knew it all and were not respectful. As a woman who knows what she wants doing a project with contractors you had to fight your way through sours you on the product. Michael and Berley are thorough professionals and they don't come with an attitude even though they are truly experts at their craft and really know high art. We used food coloring, dye, cooking oil, and water to design a liquid image which was then displayed through a projector. It was a fairly simple but interesting process, definitely different than any other art activity I've ever done. Staff was helpful and patient while giving instructions, and they were very encouraging too. Local Color supports local artists, sharing their creative works with the community through programs, galleries, and public art displays, including one of my faves, the 100 Block Mural, a colorful mosaic celebrating diversity which can be viewed near the SJZ Break Room in SJ. Last week, I also had the pleasure of checking out Reels & Records at the Noble Workshop & Gallery, one of many art exhibits through which Local Color has had an influence. They work in collaboration with different organizations and events, and continue to support the art community and education in the arts. They've contributed to the beautification of San Jose and neighboring cities in the south bay, even without recognition at times. In fact, I'm not fully aware of the various projects in which they are involved, and have only come across their works or events by chance. Their old sign is still up outside an abandoned building on South First Street, but I don't think they have a dedicated space or gallery in which they can be found (as of February 2026). Their online presence is stronger, though not ideal for those who don't use Instagram. I do appreciate their mission and impact nonetheless.

The variety of styles and people represented just shows how strong and inclusive the San Jose art scene really is. Best time to pull up is during San Jose's First Friday. The whole area comes alive, and if you're already out, you're just a short walk from the energy at San Pedro Square too. Local Color isn't just a space--it's a foundation for diverse voices, creative strength, and real community building. I'm looking forward to seeing even more shows here--and getting even more involved myself.
