I had a consultation for my wedding just this past weekend and Sonja was great! She explained the process and worked with my inspiration photos to create a look that was natural but elevated. She uses an airbrush to apply the foundation, which creates a light and even coverage. Even though it was just a trial, Sonja was very careful and detail oriented. I heard about Sonja on indiebride, and I was really happy that I found her for my wedding. I wasn't even really going to hire professional makeup, but after my trial w Sonja, I realized that a *good* makeup artist won't make you look like Tammy Faye. I also really liked Sonja personally - very down to earth and very responsive to my concerns ("You don't make me look like Tammy Faye, will you?") I also really appreciated her ability to get makeup done for EIGHT women on the day of the wedding and to manage her time and our time really well. Her assistant also did a good job - and we were charged a flat rate for the extra people, despite the fact that it required Sonja to bring an assistant. I really appreciated that. I don't really know what the market is like for pricing on makeup artists, but I thought her prices were very fair - particularly compared to how much all the other wedding vendors cost. Pllus I just have to say that her new airbrushing machine was soooo cool! I've never had makeup airbrushed on before (who has?), but I felt like I was in the L'Oreal Paris Makeup Studio getting runway-style attention. And the best part was that it looked great in pictures AND in person - amazing how the most artificial process can yield the most natural-looking results. But I have a feeling that the credit should go to Sonja, because God knows you could have given me those tools and I would have come out looking like, guess who? I used Sonja to do my make-up for professional marketing picture I had to take. I am very happy about the outcome and she is very easy to take to and as well very professional. As we both are Germanys I make sure about being on time and Sonja did not disappoint me on this matter. She was ahead schedule which unfortunately, you do not find often in the States. Well based on the reviews Sonja sounds like she would have been great for my weddding, too bad she pretty much bailed on me! I reached out to her based on her reviews here and was really excited to book her for my September wedding. She originally gave me a few of her available dates for a consult and I went based off of that, she emailed me back and said the dated I picked she had booked, that's fine. I booked another date a few weeks later for a Friday afternoon consult, I took the entire day off of work as did one of my bridesmaids so I could get a second opinion. Well Friday comes around and I'm stoked to meet Sonja, only to realize she cancelled via email about 2 and a half hours before my consult. She didn't really have an explanation, I replied to her email within 10 minutes and didn't hear back for a few days later. She again sent an email and did apologize, I thought maybe the cancellation a few days prior was out of her control, so I decided to try once more. I've email her additional dates I'm available and it's been over a week and no response! Due to her lack of professionalism or common courtesy I'm without a makeup artist 1 month before my wedding... I'm sure she doesn't treat all prospective clients this way, but I wanted to warn those already overwhelmed brides to be that this may not be the makeup artist for them. read more

Sonja did my bridal makeup and the makeup for my bridal party. She did an amazing job and was extremely easy going. Her prices were VERY reasonable and she managed her time well, which was especially impressive since she worked alone. I also think that she did a very nice job catering to each of the girls makeup needs. I booked Sonja from the west coast for my September wedding completely from her website and corresponding with her via the phone and email. She was delightful to connect with and truly heard the understated look I was trying to achieve for my wedding day. Sonja came to our home to do a consultation and allowed me to be super nit-picky about the color and feel of the make up she applied, both to me and my mom. We are both not huge make up wearers, so we wanted to have something special that captured us for this special day. Sonja did a great job and was a delightful presence that added to our day. She also worked extremely well with our hairstylist who she'd never met, they teamed up to make the day a very special one. I am pleased that she was part of our special day. I don't wear makeup often and so was slightly nervous about hiring a makeup artist, but Sonja put my fears to rest at my makeup trial. Sonja really listens to you when you describe what you want but also makes great suggestions about what will look good on you. (Never in a million years would I have thought I would wear false eyelashes but I did and they looked great!) I had heard such great things about Sonja and was so excited when I was able to book her for my engagement photos. However, several weeks after confirming my booking, I received an email that she was no longer available. She offered to "send one of her assistants if need be" (note: didn't offer any sort of discount). I expressed disappointment and asked what the conflict was, as we were now only a few weeks away from my engagement shoot and had been confirmed for some time. She never did offer me an explanation, and didn't apologize for dropping my appointment. I can only imagine that she got a better gig (which is a crappy thing to do) or that she double booked (being disorganized is not a great way to run a business). Luckily, I was able to book a different makeup artist last minute, but I noticed in these reviews that she has done something similar in the past to another bride. So, I guess just beware if you are booking Sonja that she might not actually follow through. read more
