I have been coming here with my family since I was a kid; it has been a family favorite BBQ place to this day. It hasn't always been the cleanest of places, and from the outside, it's very deceiving, especially considering the area it is in, but after the flood they remodeled the inside and it looks amazing; no more western style interior! I always get the "All You Can Eat" sliced pork with the side of fries and toast -- and can't forget the Sweet BBQ sauce! It may give me heartburn, but it's worth it for sure. The service is usually VERY fast and always the kindest and most welcoming of servers. The drink glasses are HUGE, but they do fill it with a lot of ice. Today, my sister and I had to send back our waters though because it tasted strange, almost chalky; this hasn't happened before. Overall, not a bad place if you like BBQ, especially AYCE. read more

I love Sonny's BBQ! Customer service is always great and they focus so much on good quality BBQ. Their meats are cooked to perfection and I absolutely love that they pour so much love and care into preparing their dishes. My family and I eat a lot of chicken, so when we order from BBQ places, we are always interested in brisket, then sometimes will get ribs. We are big fans of their brisket sandwich and always ask for the leaner cuts and the side of corn nuggets is always something we get multiple orders of it. If you love egg rolls & pulled pork, then you must order their pulled pork egg rolls! Perfection and could probably be a meal in itself. Their staff there is the sweetest and is just filled with that good ole' southern hospitality that you'd expect from a Louisiana restaurant. Their meat is smoked for hours and you can tell because it not dry at all. Their BBQ sauces are quite good, too. I don't like super sweet BBQ sauce, so I mix the sweet and the smokin' sauces together and it's good! The restaurant was recently re-done after the 2016 flood and you can tell that they put a lot of work into making it an awesome place for their customers. there is always ample parking, too. I just got the grilled chicken sandwich. I ordered it through a delivery app asking for bbq sauce on the side. There was no sauce. What I got was rubbery and dry. It's as if the chicken is a day old. If they don't take time to make an easy grilled chicken sandwich, which you must admit is the easiest thing they could make, then I am not confident to ever go here again. Absolutely disgusting. Let me start by saying it's been a while since we've eaten here. I was craving some barbecue so we got takeout. The ribs--wow--it's been quite a while that I've had some so infused with flavor and falling right off the bone (we had the dry rub because I don't always want the meats slathered in barbecue sauce). I was very impressed that the green beans weren't just "phoned in" and were cooked with love like I remember them growing up. My family all ate well and we still had leftovers--the family feast is a terrific value. I am already excited about my lunch leftovers for tomorrow! Talk about damn good barbecue! This is one of my and my husbands favorite places to eat! We've been coming here for 6 years now since we first moved to LA. The ribs are slap your mama good! Tender, juicy and fall off the bone every single time! The green beans too are amazing! The freshest we've ever had. The girls who take orders are so polite and sweet. Extremely good customer service and our to go food is always ready in less than 10 minutes! We often buy their sauce to bring home and cook with as well. It too is amazing. I love Sonny's BBQ! I have been going here since I was in elementary school and it is always a great experience. The staff is always friendly and the food is always great! Like I mentioned, I have been going to Sonny's since I was in elementary school and I needed to fuel up after T-ball practice. But I moved away for an extended time and after moving back to Baton Rouge, the staff remembered us and embraced us with open arms. Cathy is almost always there and loves to catch up on what's going on in our lives! The community is family, which keeps them coming back, before and after the relaunch. As for the food, you can't go wrong with anything on the menu, but I always stick with the tried & true Pulled Pork Sandwich on Garlic Toast with French Fries. The Sweet BBQ Sauce is always a great addition to sweeten the savory bun and savory meat. For a starter, a side or even your main meal, I love love love the corn nuggets!!! I eat them as soon as they hit the table, which isn't always the best for my mouth because they come out piping hot! This is one of our favorites!! We missed Sonny's while they rebuilt after the flood. Big portions, smoked to perfection!! Julie loves the pulled pork sandwiches and I get a big ole cheese burger on garlic bread. The ribs are great!! The brisket is awesome!! Haven't been here in many years. But our Yelp Elite Event membership was promoting a function here tonight so off we went. Upon arrival we were greeted with friendly smiling faces and were immediately offered a complimentary drink of our choice. After checking in with the event coordinator we made our way to our seats. In no time the food started arriving on the tables for us to enjoy. There was pork egg rolls, bar b qued chicken wings, and corn nuggets. Each of these food items were served hot and each item was delicious. I favored the chicken and corn nuggets but all three dishes were very good. Then we were offered a demonstration on how they cut the pork collar and prepare it for the cooking process. And that was followed by a demonstration of pork collars already prepared and how it's sliced and how the pulled pork literally falls off the bone. Samples were served and it was all so good. For the second round were were served a half of pork and sausage sandwich on a delicious bun with Sonny's special sauce. That was an outstanding sandwich. Then that was followed by a platter of sliced pork, pulled pork, and baked beans and that was followed by banana pudding. We could not have been treated any better. Not only was the food outstanding but the servers were friendly and very helpful. Sonny's has remodeled since the flood of 2016 and it's much nicer now. Was very disappointed this evening really wanted barbecue chicken and thought Sonny's would be better than Hannah Q but it wasn't. It has been a while since I've eaten here but it was as good as I remember. The only disappointment was they were out of CO2 so none of the Coke products were available. We had lemonade and iced tea. They were also out of the spicy pimento cheese that was supposed to be on the burger I ordered. I was expecting a burger with sort of a spicy kick to it but with out the cheese I really did not see anything extraordinary about it. The Sonny's after the flood leaves a lot to be desired. We've been in a couple of times where they were completely out of brisket, and when they do have it the meat seems really fatty (even when we ordered lean). We thought we would give them one last try and I'm sad to say the meat was no better. Very very "lacy" with fatty connective tissues. Literally couldn't eat it. Went a little after lunch time and found a place to sit at the bar quickly. Though the place was mostly empty, I was surprised at the lack of attention that was given to me as I waited to place an order. Though a waitress initially was quick to take my drink order, it would be several minutes before I would see her again to order food. As well, though it did not appear to be that busy (as some of the other workers congregated near the cash wrap near the kitchen/bar), it took some time to place my order. Even so, the food came out relatively quick and was certainly good for the price (dry rub ribs). With everything being said, the waitress who did help me was nice though it did sound as if the other waitresses were annoyed with a coworker of there's this day. We placed a large order on Labor Day. The food was delicious and the servings were generous. The dry rubbed ribs get a 10+/10. They had a good smoke mark and a rich flavor with enough fat to keep them tender. The pulled pork is absolutely ah-mazing! Tender, smokey, and moist. The brisket and sliced pork were both delicious too. Their meats are so flavorful, you don't need any sauce. The only item we didn't love was the "hot links." They were a bit tough and were more like a sausage with cheese. The baked beans were good. Much better than a can, but not as good as the style where people put the meat debris in it. We really like being able to order by the pound so we get exactly what we want and have leftovers for days. It almost didn't happen, as after we placed our order the waitress came back and nervously informed us they ran out of brisket. I died. I had tears. This was the only reason i came. I was devastated. And just when all hope was lost, my plate of brisket appeared before me. I got the last serving of the night. Thank you Lord!!! Now, it's not the let's write home about food. It's not gonna put Texas brisket to shame. But it is the best I've had in baton rouge!! And was still so good i ate every bite!! The bbq sauce is quite tasty! The chicken was flavorful, little dry. The pulled pork was very delicious and juicy!! And the ribs were def a hit!! We skipped the salad bar, but there were plenty of options to choose from on there. The beans were really good. The coleslaw was nothing over the top but was very good. That garlic toast was good, but a little stale. I still ate it. And the fries were especially yummy dipped in bbq sauce! Our waitress, Theresa, was amazing!! When we go back we're asking for her and you should too!! They were very busy at 7:30 on Saturday night, so go early, or be prepared.
