Yesterday we went to Sonny's for the all you can eat chicken for $5.99 . We were seated immediately and our orders were taken . There was a $1 upgrade if you wanted white meat . I only have to complaints one the waitress didn't tell us anything would be a extra cost and we didn't get any refills. They also no longer have their mild bbq sauce on the tables and you have to get packets from the kitchen. The okra my husband got was a $1.50 upgrade as well. Nothing very special. We had the sample plate but everything was just "ok". It wasn't nasty but it wasn't amazing either. If I had to choose the best thing on the plate, it would be ribs. The worst thing was the pulled pork. The chicken wings were also decent. I think the missing factor for all the meat was seasoning. The BBQ here is phenomenal. My friends and I decided to stop by and try this place out. The interior looks completely new and renovated. It's clean, bright, and very welcoming. I was afraid to try this place because I've eaten at other franchise/chain BBQ places and they always let me down. This place is definitely the exception. We sat at the bar and chatted with the bartender, who was nice and attentive. He was patient and recommended various items since it was our first time there. The food came out pretty quickly and EVERYTHING was sooooo good. We tried: Brisket: Extremely tender, flavorful, and not dry. Five stars for some reallly standout bbq. This place smells so great right off the street from their wood fired pit. Their prices are really reasonable. They can get packed. This place is popular. Try to pick an evening or off hour to get a seat. They have a pick up window outside so you can order ahead and don't even have to go inside the building. I had the ribs & smoked wings combo. I love them dry. Great rub. Doesn't need sauce. I tried each of the sauces and they are certainly good as far as sauces go but maybe sweet for my liking. It's just a personal preference. I've never been to a place where u order Corn Nuggets & in order for them to be Sweet they have to put Powered Sugar on them(yuck). our family has been going to Sonny's for a very long time. The food and the service has always been excellent. I was surprised at something last night, though we went to eat and ordered a queso dip with pulled pork. We asked the waitress for a few more chips, and she said no we are not allowed to give anyone any more chips. she apologized was very nice and said that was per the manager. this I did not understand. I've been coming to Sonny's since I was a kid and they have stayed consistent with their restaurant values. I am sad that they don't do the homemade croutons anymore. I hope they bring that back! We have been looking for a good barbecue spot in Baton Rouge for a while. We decided to order food from Sonny's after passing it on our way home several times. Since we have been quarantining and deciding to stay at home we used Uber eats to order online. The ordering process was easy and the food came pretty quickly. Unfortunately we weren't very satisfied as the brisket was very fatty and not flavored well. The ribs were OK they also didn't have much flavor but the barbecue sauce helped. I have been enjoying Sonny's for a decade and it all came to a halting stop today when I witnessed the cook use the urinal with his apron dipped into the urinal, urinate on the apron knowing he's doing this, turns around shakes his apron off, and wipes his hands on the very apron he just urinated on. My family and I get food from Sonny's a good bit. It's usually great, from the order being correct to the amount of food you get. Tonight we ordered out and almost every order was wrong. We had to go back to get the fried okra, and sour cream for my baked potato, which after my fiance had come home we realized that it was a sweet potato. I am visiting town and was brought to Sonny's. When I pulled up I thought this is a cute place. It was very clean and up to date. We all ordered different things and I tried it all. The red neck egg rolls were my favorite by far!! The smoked and spicy wings were some of the best I have ever had. No others can even compare-This is the best BBQ around. The regular lunch and dinner portion sizes are huge and then there is the all you can eat if you like to get protein poisoning! The meats are always juicy and grilled to perfection. I like the variety of meat choices as well. For the veggie lovers there is an endless salad bar with tons of fresh veggies and other items such as daily specials of two soup choices, chicken salad, dessert items etc, They make a really nice side salad if you would just like it as a side dish as well. The baked sweet potatoes are so moist they just peel away from the skin. The baked beans are nice and flavorful and have chunks of meat in them as well. The mac and cheese is always a fave as well as their fries and potato salad. Now lets talk sauces. The sweet sauce is to die for. I absolutely love it. The other sauces are good, don't get me wrong, but they pale in comparison to my sweet sauce. They sell the sauces in bottles or you can get the to go packs. I've never tried the desserts because as hard as I try I can't stop myself from eating the entrees to save room for dessert. My only complaint is the building is a bit dated, some of the booth seats have colored duct tape keeping the rips from being seen and the location. They have an order window but not a drive thru like most of the other locations. I so wish they would open a new location in south Baton Rouge or the Prairieville area. read more

Well hadn't been back to Sonny's since the flood ! Had been told by friends don't waste my time cause it wasn't the same food ! Now I must say they were right !! Everything taste as though it came pre cooked and had been heated up ! The things on the menu that were really good are gone ! Our waitress seemed as though she really didn't want to be there ! The ribs were very tender although tasteless, and the corn fritters had absolutely no flavor whatsoever! I guess that's why they sprinkle them with powdered sugar. The baked beans were definitely not the same, Sonny's baked beans were always great ! The brisket taste as though it came from a bag as did the pulled pork ! Even the sauce seemed as though it had changed ! But all this is just my opinion! I used to eat here at least twice a week. But as for now I don't think I'll be back ! Service and food was okay. We received exactly what we ordered in a good time. Our server I believe was a host as well so we had to often get the attention of another staff member. That didn't stop us from enjoying ourselves. Our order included the endless ribs ($15.99) and a dinner plate of chicken. The first order of ribs were awesome. They were very meaty and tender. The second plate of ribs received were very thin and included very little meat. The third batch were even smaller and seem to be a different type all together.??? My dinner mate my husband didn't consume a lot at all!! The all you can eat was definitely all you can eat as stated. We just did not receive good pieces after in the initial plate. So I'm not sure this is really a deal?! The chicken plate honestly was mediocre. The chicken was warm rather than hot. Greens beans were room temperature and weren't seasoned. Great service. Today was our third visit. We were promptly greeted, sat, and order taken. Food came out hot within 10 minute or less of ordering. I'm a creature of habit and usually have the sliced brisket sandwich. All visits it has been delicious. My partner has tried different things and has loved them all. First, the place was packed and that's a good sign!! My friend and I arrived for lunch. Food looked great coming out of the kitchen! We were seated quickly. 5 Stars Second, ordered fried okra appetizer and boy was that fantastic!! Very, very lightly coated and beautifully seasoned batter. Obviously cooked to order. Arrived quickly. 5 Stars Third, our server, Jessica, she was friendly, caring and an asset to the company. Fourth, the rest was a disaster and I'll never return. It took 25 minutes to get our food. We ordered off the lunch menu. I ordered chopped brisket with a side of beans and potato salad. My friend ordered the same except she ordered coleslaw instead of potato salad. It comes with a piece of buttered "toast". And we both had iced tea, excellent iced tea, not bitter and not weak. When our food finally arrived the beans were ice cold, like right out of the refrigerator and so was the brisket. The potato salad and coleslaw were barely cool, closer to room temperature. Both were in a heavy mayonnaise base and both were, oddly, flavorless. We told Jessica about the cold beans and brisket, she was so apologetic and wished them away. She returned in about 2 minutes, truly. The beans were still cold and the brisket now cool not ice cold. She was mortified and took them back. We are now waiting to simply eat 30 minutes after ordering. People who arrived after us have finished and gone. You would think the 3rd time would be the charm, well don't get your hopes up. Still cold. It was a different plate of meat. Mine was now full of fat and Gisele's edges that I did not have before. Yet it was only cool. I asked for the manager. No one, no one ever bothered to come. We each ate cool brisket. The toast was probably warmed earlier because it was tough and dry. We told Jessica about it she was mortified and also not surprised. She said she was blamed for not picking up our order fast enough. We both told her we knew it wasn't her. We said the beans and brisket came out of the fridge and hadn't been heated up yet. We told her we know it. I think they lost our order, they were slammed and the new meat and beans had just been taken out but had not yet been heated. When the meal came out cool the third time I asked to speak with a manager just to let them know. Jessica said she spoke with both managers after the second time. But they didn't care. All we wanted, and asked for, was our beans and brisket to be microwaved! Period!! Nothing more!! Before leaving, I decided to speak with a manager. I asked a waitress if she would get one of the managers for me. I watched her walk straight to the manager, whom I could see in the kitchen. The waitress spent about 2 minutes talking to the manager. The manager looked up once and looked at me then quickly looked away. Finally, she came out. I introduced myself. She did not introduce herself. She just looked at me. I complimented her on the wonderful okra. She didn't even smile. How very interesting and odd. I told her about the experience with the food. Her response was to tell me how busy they were, so much do that she was working as an expediter and she was sorry it took so long to get our order. I said that we weren't in a rush but hot food would've been nice. She didn't apologize. She didn't offer a discount. She kept saying they were busy. I said I wouldn't return but I was glad they had a robust business. I started to thank her for listening but she'd already turned and walked away. Minus 5 for the management and their response. The owner should promote Jessica. Shame on the managers. Customer service is not in their vocabulary. I'd never want them representing my company. Don't waste your time. Here for lunch on a rainy Friday afternoon, I went for the sliced brisket lunch with two "sidekicks" - and by that I mean two sides of hot crinkly fries which I dipped into the handy Smokin' sauce with each bite to help cool them down oven-wise. The sliced brisket was fork-sliced with minimal effort & maintained its smokiness on the taste as it did the scent. Go moderate on the sauce (good all-around advice, no?) to better taste the beef's smoky flavor. Our knowledgable, effervescent server Angie noticed my wife and me working our phones checking in on a certain app (HMMM!) and let us in on some contest where you text a given number & are entered to win a possible tailgate. Now I'm not the super-duper tailgating kind of fan but Angie's clear enthusiasm for her job sold me. You never know, amirite? And yes, help yourself to some of Sonny's sweet tea.
